An American woman has been found chained to a tree in an Indian forest where she had been for 40 days, triggering a manhunt for her former husband.
Lalita Kayi Kumar, 49, was found by a shepherd in a forest near Sonurli village, Goa, after he heard her crying for several days.
Unable to speak following her rescue, she wrote a note that alleged her ex-husband had left her to die and that she had been without food for 40 days.
She also claimed she was administered an “injection for extreme psychosis which caused severe jaws locked and inability to drink any water. Need intravenous food later ... husband tied me to a tree in a forest”.
Ms Kumar was found with her legs tied to the tree but her hands unbound. A police officer said she was too weak to unchain herself. There were also reportedly marks from numerous other injuries on her body. She was wearing a see-through raincoat, an olive green shirt and worn-out brown trousers when she was found.
Police have registered a case of attempted murder against her former husband, who is accused of chaining her up before he escaped. Relatives of the couple are being interviewed by police.
Ms Kumar was transferred to Goa Medical College for specialist treatment after doctors raised concerns about her mental health.
A hospital official said: “She is out of danger, but she is suffering from severe depression and other mental health illnesses. We have found medical prescriptions in her possession suggesting she was on antidepressants.”
Documents found on Ms Kumar show that she was a resident of Tamil Nadu, a south Indian state, about 600 miles away from the forest where she was found. It is thought that she had been living in India for the past decade.

Thousands of doctors across major cities in India, including the capital, New Delhi, on Tuesday, joined in on protests sparked by the alleged rape and murder of a trainee last week.
A 31-year-old female medical trainee was found dead at one of the largest government hospitals in the eastern city of Kolkata on Friday. Her body sustained multiple injuries and an autopsy report described evidence of sexual violence.
After the incident, doctors walked off their jobs at government hospitals, demanding better security and safety measures for health workers. The chief of the institution involved, RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, resigned on Monday.
Protests flare as doctors demand better safety
Protests picked up across government-run facilities in the eastern state of West Bengal, home to Kolkata, on Monday — with doctors saying they would suspend emergency services as well until at least Tuesday.
"As resident doctors, we are on the frontline and deal with lots of patients, which makes us quite vulnerable to these attacks," Doctor Rajat Sharma, vice president of India's Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA), told DW.
"It's a scary situation which we see working on a daily basis. Doctors in West Bengal are protesting for their rights. We want to have better security for our resident doctors."
Around 75% of doctors in India have faced some form of violence, according to a survey by the Indian Medical Association.
Sharma's FORDA colleague Sarvesh Pandey told Indian media that doctors' demands included a specialized law protecting healthcare workers from violence on the job.
"There should be stringent security measures in hospitals and CCTV cameras should be installed," he said.
Students at universities in Kolkata also joined in on protests, demanding better safety measures for women in particular.
Sexual violence against women is a big problem in India.
The National Crimes Records Bureau reported that in 2021, an average of 86 rape cases were registered every day and 49 cases of crime against women lodged every single hour.
Protests spread to major cities, some services hampered
The incident has struck a nerve in the medical community who have repeatedly said they face threats from angry family members, especially in the case of bad news involving medical issues.
In the western Maharashtra state, home to financial capital Mumbai, around 8,000 doctors at government hospitals walked off their jobs on Tuesday.
In New Delhi, junior doctors wearing white coats held banners that read "Doctors are not punching bags" as they sat outside a big government hospital to demand an investigation into the incident.
Protests hampered medical services in the city of Lucknow in the most populous state of Uttar Pradesh, as well as in the popular tourist state of Goa.
How have Indian authorities responded?
The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday ordered the case to be transferred over to a federal agency, meaning that Kolkata police will have to submit all case documents to the agency.
Kolkata police initially set up a special investigative team and arrested a man in connection with the case.
City police chief Vineet Kumar Goyal told reporters a case had been registered against the suspect under provisions of the law relating to rape and murder.
The National Human Rights Commission on Tuesday sent notices to the director general of police and the chief secretary of West Bengal state, asking for a detailed report within two weeks.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee met the family of the victim on Monday, telling reporters later that police were "giving utmost importance to the investigation."

PUPPYM DETECTIVE
CHAPTER 5 : NO MORE EXPECTATION
part 1 ; part 2 ; part 3&4
Everything seemed more logical until now, but I had the distinct impression that I was missing a part of the story to fully understand it.
So I grabbed my phone and, using the Dictaphone app, began to summarize my progress on this investigation.
2 months after the death of General Councilor Jung, I'm not giving up. I've discovered that several people were responsible for his murder. So the field of culprits has been widened, but I think I've got an idea of where to look.
Digging into the past of the three stores on the Miroh street , I discovered some amazing things:
• Felix and Changbin's bakery has been around for at least three years. The two are a married couple who make no secret of their love for each other and their fantasies about the oldest putting on weight. A little funfact is that they've been dating since high school and graduated from the same university as Jisung and me.
Felix is rather jovial and smiles like a ray of human sunshine, he's the one who manages the kitchen part of their bakery while Changbin although I haven't had the chance to talk to him for long is described by Jisung as a noisy but funny guy. My question every time I see him is if this guy can still walk with his weight, i mean ... he's huge ! I've always seen him sitting on a seat, a chair (or two lately) but never standing.I have the impression that if one of the two hides something these definitely Changbin but that Felix covers it, I do not see another explanation
Let's move on to Minho's cat's cafe, he and his brother are both chaebols of the great CEO Yang, who seems to have a preference for his little brother since he's his illegitimate son born out of wedlock- my god, it's such a cliché.
Anyway, I tried to contact my brother so that he could tell me more about Jeongin But, but I didn't find anything very interesting: just a random college student, he had good grades and seemed rather popular in his class. Minho, on the other hand, is like a ghost who never existed. I looked up "Lee Minho" and even "Yang Minho" on the Internet, but nothing ... no leads and there was no way I ask my father any information, I'd rather die then talk to that piece of sh-
I'm sorry ... Well, to get back to them, I haven't found anything suspicious about them, but their father is. PDG Yang, is also known as the rich corrupt entrepreneur who puts his own interests before those of others and who thinks that money is the solution to everything.
In short: a jerk.Their father is justly interesting with his various projects, including Project 143, which consists of building more factories to increase supply and export internationally. Except that the factory is supposed to be built not far from Stayville, so it would be a death sentence for the town's inhabitants, or else relocate them elsewhere than where many of them were born and raised.
How do I know? Jisung was given a file and was talking about bribing the town councillor and the mayor to get the project accepted. Of course Jisung refused, and he assured me that Mayor Bahng would too.
So if the Lee/Yang brothers have anything to do with this story, it's probably to do with leir perr and project 143. Also, on the day councilman Jung was killed, Jelngin launched his last lesson of the day... pretty strange, isn't it?
Anyway, I didn't want to talk about him, although there are things to say: Hwang Hyunjin. A former world-famous model who quit everything overnight to move to Stayville to open a bed'n breakfast.
His case is also a mystery, because from what I could find he had an impeccable career without the slightest scandal, and the only one he had was linked to the fact that he was attached to a mafia branch and that his modeling agency was precisely a means of laundering money.
Honestly, I'm not surprised, he's a real jerk who thinks he can do whatever he wants, so if he's a former mafioso, it's the height of cliché here! Maybe his goal is to launder money here away from the mafioso and far from the prying eyes . Which explains his relationship with Mayor Bahng!
Speaking of him, I find this mayor rather suspicious, and I'm not just saying that because I voted for their Daengmo mascot! Kind of a long story bjt as joke in Stayville the mascots always present themselves at the ekections if the candidate ever sucks, this year it was Daengmo, a plush dog
In fact, although he's a fair mayor and allows stayville a good economic situation, I find him far too easily manipulated, just look at how Hyunjin wrapped him around his finger with sex and food! He was no longer the athletic, fair-minded mayor everyone knew him to be, he was now just a walking pile of corruptible fat and out of shape , manipulated by a potentate ex-mafioso with a bastard's back.
Then I say that but i do get a little out of shape ... well little, better say's a lot. I had to ask Jisung to lend me one of his jeans because mine don't zip anymore. Oh and now i just can't stop eating ! it seems that as you get older you gain weight more easily but I'm only 23 , I'm not that old, am I?
But it's not my fault, Jisung always brings back food when he comes home from work and always feeds him when I'm concentrating on the investigation. Maybe I've put on weight because of Jisung's case, but at least he's become much more cuddly with me! It was a sort of routine where after each day we'd sit on the sofa and hug each other for a long time without saying a word, as if this simple embrace was enough to make us forget our daily lives.
Poor Jisung, he was so closely involved in all this that he couldn't do anything about it. I feel sorry for him, who didn't ask for anything, but found himself sitting on the desk of someone who'd been murdered.I miss him, if only he didn't have a charity gala in the next village.
Yet someone knocked and rang the doorbell again and again. Curious, I pulled on a sweater and opened the door.Oh no, not him again.
-"Seung"
- "I'm sorry sir, I have nothing to do with you" I said as I closed the door on my "father".
- "Seungmin please, it's important"
- "It's always important with you "
- "It's about Jisung!"
My heart caught a beat, I took fright and reluctantly decided to open the door.
-"Is everyone here? Chan asked shyly.
-"Idiot, you can see that someone is still missing.
- "Hey, we didn't talk to you fatso!" defended Hyunjin.
- "Fatso?! How dare you call me like that you little-".
- "Eurk you're spitting on me, I'm sure I'll get fat because of you're saliva" Changbin would have stood up to teach Hyunjin a lesson, but he'd eaten too much and couldn't get up from his chair without being humiliated again by the tall blond.
-"Stop your immature bickering, you look like damn kids !" exclaimed Minho, sighing heavily.
-"I remind you that we're not here out of friendship" confided Hyunjin, who then turned on Minho.
-"Oh no, I've been dreaming of becoming friends with you" cried Changbin falsely as the three of them began to bicker, leaving Chan confuse on how to deal with the situation.
-"Wow, calm down, I remind you that the situation is critical, that's why we're all here! So if we can put our differences aside, that would be great!" said Felix supportively, arriving with a feast of salted muffins which he placed on the table before taking a seat.
-"You're right Lixie sorry" said shyly Changbin, placing a tender kiss on his husband's cheek.
- "Ew ... love " said Hyunjin, earning himself a confused look from Chan, who ended up covering it with a kiss a few minutes
-"Well, he's going to be late, isn't he? As usual, I suppose" accused Linho, who was impatiently tapping his foot while looking at the door.
-"I remind you that you're the one who's close to him, so you should know better than anyone whether he's on time or not", Felix commented almost dryly.
But just as Minho was about to retort, the door suddenly opened, letting the breathless latecomer in.
-"Ah, here he is!"
- "Come on Jisung, you're exaggerating, we said 6.30pm not 7pm! Chan said in exasperation, which made Hyunjin laugh.
- "Sorry, I had to sort something out, I remind you that I live with the enemy"
- "Oh Lixie that's sweet, he calls his boyfriend an enemy~"
- "He's not my boyfriend, you don't know how hard it is to put him on the wrong track, he's too smart for that shit!" Declare Jisung before taking his place on the last remaining seat.
-"I find it amazing that he still hasn't suspected you, I mean, you're the ideal suspect but the idiot still hasn't noticed!"
- "stop it Minho, I'm not happy about treating him like that either, but he can't harm our project like that!"
- "It's true that M.Han is our leader" teased Hyunjin, earning a glare from the concerned.
-"Enough chatter, let's recap the facts"
- "So you're sure that even if he has several leads Seungmin won't be able to trace them back to all of us?"
-"I promise you Felix, I've known him since we were kids, he thinks I'm innocent of everything! He didn't even consider me as a potential suspect!"
Everyone looked at each other in astonishment before laughing loudly.
-"And then, thanks to Changbin's plan, he spends more time digesting all that food than thinking!"
-"See ? I bet you must be excited by that" then added Felix who hastened to put his hand on the belly of his lover
Changbin then smiled proudly as Felix congratulated him by offering him a cookie.
- "So we just have to lay low until it calms down?"
- "Channie, you don't understand... this pseudo detective won't give up until he finds someone to blame"
- "But he can't know it's us!-.... but who will it be?"
Everyone reflected before Minho had a sudden idea
- "Isn't it rumored that while he was dating Choi Yena, he was also sleeping with his brother Choi San?"
Everyone nodded, seeming to already know the outcome of this plan.
Poor detective puppy m, things weren't turning out the way he'd expected
-"No i don't want to hear you !"
-"Seugmin i beg you to hear what i have to say , i have proof that Jisung is involved in the death of the municipal councilor!"
but Seungmin didn't want to hear anything, he felt like that night, where his father lectured him for long hours on the dangers of homosexuality after he had sex with Jisung.
Because of that and although he had only half listened to it, he had trouble pairing up with the quokka despite their shared common feelings.
So at that moment he felt this mixed feeling, he did not know which camos this ranger ... that of his father who abandoned him or his best friend / crush?

The Suchana Seth Case: Unraveling the Enigma of a Mother's Devastating Act
In the wake of the shocking revelation involving Suchana Seth, CEO of a Bengaluru-based start-up, allegedly murdering her four-year-old son, the nation finds itself grappling with a perplexing and tragic tale. As the details of this heart-wrenching incident continue to emerge, numerous questions remain unanswered, further shrouding the case in mystery.
1. Motive behind the Murder: The first and perhaps most haunting question revolves around the motive that propelled Suchana Seth to commit such a heinous act against her own child. Initial police questioning has painted a contradictory picture — Seth, known to love her son deeply, supposedly became possessive after his birth. The estranged husband’s role in the tragedy is cited as a potential motive, with Seth allegedly aiming to prevent him from meeting their son. However, the question lingers: Why would a mother resort to such an extreme step, leading to the tragic demise of her own flesh and blood? Despite her claims of not intending to kill, the motive remains a perplexing enigma.
2. Sudden Trip to Goa: The circumstances surrounding Seth’s impromptu trip to Goa add another layer of complexity to the case. As a Bengaluru-based individual, the choice to travel to Goa, allegedly for the sole purpose of committing the crime, raises numerous questions. With a Bengaluru family court allowing the father to meet the child every Sunday, the motive behind choosing Goa remains unclear. Reports suggest that Seth may have orchestrated this trip to delay the father-son meeting, but the reasons behind this strategy remain elusive.
3. Bloodstains and Cough Syrup Bottles: The crime scene itself presents a myriad of unanswered questions. The discovery of bloodstains in the Goa service apartment, coupled with empty cough syrup bottles, adds a chilling dimension to the tragedy. The post-mortem report indicates that the child was smothered, possibly with a cloth or pillow. The presence of cough syrup bottles raises questions about whether medication was administered to the child before the fatal act. Furthermore, Seth’s attempt to end her own life by slitting her wrist introduces additional complexities, as the origin of the bloodstains in the room is yet to be officially confirmed.
As the Suchana Seth case continues to unfold, each revelation raises more questions than answers. The nation awaits a thorough investigation and a deeper understanding of the factors that led to this heartbreaking incident. The enigma surrounding the motive, the choice of location, and the disturbing details of the crime challenge our comprehension of a mother’s unthinkable act against her own child. In seeking justice for the innocent life lost, the pursuit of truth becomes all the more urgent.

About Wuthering Heights
So I've finally read Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights, and I just felt like this is the kind of thing you post about on Tumblr.
I make no guarantees that these observations will be new or interesting to you if you have read the book, in fact they're probably old hat if you have
Here be spoilers for the novel.
Ok so the first thing that struck me is that it's one of these novels where a character Has An Accent.
For some reason English writers just looove to have a character with an accent and take great pain to transcribe it, in spite of the fact (or perhaps because of the fact), that if you haven't heard the accent itself, you won't have a clue how to read them. (This is because the English orthographic system is absolutely terrible and completely inadequate for giving phonetic indications. It's not even good for "standard" English).
So anyway I had a painful time making anything out of Joseph's dialog because he has a Yorkshire accent, here are some excerpts :
« Aw sud more likker look for th’ horse,’ he replied. ‘It ‘ud be tuh more sense. Bud, Aw can look for norther horse, nur man uf a neeght loike this »
« Thank Hivin for all! All warks togither for gooid tuh them as is chozzen, and piked aht froo' th' rubbidge! Yah knaw whet t' Scripture ses— »
« "Whet are ye for?" he shouted. "T' maisters dahn i' t'fowld. Goa rahnd by th' end ut' laith, if yah went tuh spake tull him. »
Thankfully he's not too important a character, although he is present from the beginning to the end and always here to make me stumble with his "shoos" and "ai".
Otherwise, I'm really struck by the contrast between what people talk about when they talk about the book, and what's actually in there. The love triangle and the tormented passion between Cathy and Heathcliff really doesn't make up the bulk of the book.
I can see why nobody gives a damn about Lockwood (the first narrator) and Nelly Dean is in fact relatively unsympathetic.
But really most of the characters are.
This is not in fact a romantic book, it's a book about hateful people (chief among them Heathcliff) doing hateful things to each other or to innocent victims, including literally torturing innocent puppies.
Very well written and convincing, you understand completely why they are as they are, but it's quite bleak. It's also a book about grief because for a book where nobody murders anybody, there's a remarkably high bodycount.
I guess it's realistic (in real life the rev. Patrick Brontë outlived his wife and all of his six children so you can see where that was coming from).
And so that makes the ending a bit strange, in the sense that I don't think anyone can join Nelly Dean celebrating Catherine Jr's marriage to puppy-torturer and illiterate brute Hareton Earnshaw, but maybe that's the point.
But overall there's a sense of claustrophobia from this novel and the least understandable part of it is why do characters who manage to leave the moors later come back.
Isabella is probably the character with the least miserable life because although she's a victim of manipulation and (maybe) of assault, at least she gets the fuck out of Yorkshire.
Anyhoo, that's my impressions of this classic of English literature. I'm deeply impressed by the fact that all of its major characters have their own wikipedia page, last time I read a novel where this was the case was Marcel Proust's À la Recherche du Temps perdu which is much, much, longer.
The first time I'd heard about Wuthering Heights was when I was a kid and I read a children's book (Kamo : l'Agence Babel by Daniel Pennac) about a kid who is learning English through a pen-pal agency and he becomes obsessed with his pen-pal, who is supposedly Catherine Earnshaw (yep). (and there turns out to be a somewhat logical diegetic explanation)
Somehow this book attracts fanfic writing.

This movie, of course, does eventually turn into the same type of drugs/murder/mobsters-type chaos that so many of these types of movies feature so greatly. In this cases, it's a trip to Goa that starts off on the wrong foot and, honestly, never really gets away from that.
A classic bag-swap (though, looking at what both of those guys were doing at the time, why would either of them put their bag down?) compounds an already frictional friendship trip that has been troubled by delays, lies (and many more of those to come), and social media-related jealousy, leaving our trio without the meds that one of them needs (some, maybe; but, also, hypochondriac?) and instead with a bag that contains money, a room key, and a gun. An accidental drug-fueled night later, they find themselves in even more of a mess - some ladies, part of the Kombdi Gang, are looking for a 'Ganpat,' who they pretend to be; there's an entire under-bed full of cocaine, leading to an overdose situation; and, of course, there's a pissed of gangster who has lost his drugs. And, of course, there's also Nora Fatehi showing up (acting role, not just for an item song).
And it devolves into chaos, as their friendship is tested whilst they also have to deal with an essential bounty on their heads. Things obviously eventually smooth themselves out - but we do see some jealousy between friends, our protagonist is a loser who of course makes it out unscathed (no girlfriend, maybe, but also, he still has all his fingers and he wasn't being catfished - by a friend, no less) and even actually ends up willing a scratch-off lottery.
Honestly, that was probably the biggest downside to this - while Prateik's character literally loses a finger (and gets knocked out, and is overdosed on drugs multiple times) and Avinash Tiwary has to deal with the fallout of the news he receives at the end, our 'protagonist' - played by Divyendu Sharma - just sorta rolls on unscathed. Sure, no Nora at the end - but instead, wins the lottery, and even his apology is immediately accepted (at least by Prateik). It's just all a bit too easy for him - as easy as it can be when you're being chased by gangsters and your life is on the line.
The comedy, again, is similar for all these types of movies, so really, this is more working on the chemistry between the trio - which, thankfully, is pretty solid. We do have fun with them, even as the story takes the predictable turns. That said, sequel would still be a bit fun - though I hope they can at least semi-maturize Dodo in that time. Kunal Khemmu's guest appearance was fun.

Sahil Gehlot Married Nikki Yadav In 2020, Killed Her For 2nd Marriage: Cops
Police have also recovered the wedding certificates of Sahil and Nikki during the accused's police remand.
New Delhi: Nikki Yadav, the 23-year-old Delhi woman who was strangled to death by her boyfriend with a charging cable and stuffed in a fridge, was married to the accused since 2020, police sources said today in a major development in the case. Earlier, it was reported that the man, 24-year-old Sahil Gehlot, had murdered her on the day of his wedding to another woman after a three-hour fight over the issue. Sahil had hidden his plans to marry another woman from Nikki Yadav.
Sources said Sahil, a pharma graduate, and Nikki, got married in October 2020 at the Arya Samaj temple in Uttar Pradesh's Noida. Sahil's family was reportedly unhappy with the marriage and wanted her gone.
Delhi Police's Crime Branch yesterday arrested Sahil's father, Virendra Singh, brothers Anish and Naveen, and friends Lokesh and Amar after they found out that Sahil's family and friends were involved in the murder.
Sahil's family fixed his marriage with another woman in December 2022, and Nikki was kept in the dark.
Police have also recovered the wedding certificates of Sahil and Nikki during the accused's police remand.
Police sources said Sahil's cousin brother and a friend helped him hide Nikki's body in a fridge at his family-owned dhaba (restaurant), just 700 meters from his parents' home.
Some reports said Nikki had threatened to file a case if he married someone else. Other reports claimed she had booked tickets to Goa and was pressing him to go with her.
According to the police, Sahil deleted his chats from the phones of his cousin and friend, who helped him hide the body.
The murder, which surfaced on what is widely celebrated as Valentine's Day, has chilling similarities to the murder of Shraddha Walkar last year by her boyfriend Aaftab Poonawalla, who chopped up the body into several pieces and disposed of them bit by bit, keeping the parts in his fridge for weeks.
The police tracked down Sahil after a neighbour reported Nikki missing. Her family lives in Jhajjar in Haryana.
Police sources claim Sahil "confessed" during his questioning and revealed where he had hidden Nikki's body.
Sahil's new bride has reportedly gone back to her parents' home.
Nikki's uncle Praveen Yadav has demanded that the case be heard in a fast track court, and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to hang the killer.
Her father, Sunil Yadav, has also demanded the death penalty for Sahil.

Partner Killed Nikki Yadav Amid Wedding Events, Deleted All Her Phone Data
Nikki Yadav, 23, was last seen in security footage at her rented home in Delhi on February 9.
New Delhi: Sometime between his engagement and wedding, Sahil Gehlot killed his girlfriend of four years, hid her body, and resumed business as usual, the Delhi police said today, revealing more shockers in the chilling re-run of last year's Aaftab Poonawalla and Shraddha Walkar case.
Sahil Gehlot, 24, enjoyed himself at his engagement on February 9 and danced for hours with friends, according to the police. The next day, before his wedding, he allegedly strangled Nikki Yadav when she confronted him on his alleged betrayal.
Visuals show Sahil Gehlot performing wedding rituals, looking far from a man who had just committed murder.
Nikki Yadav, 23, was last seen in security footage at her rented home on February 9.
She didn't know then that Sahil Gehlot was engaged to another woman. They had been living together since 2018, when they met while taking pharmaceutical college entrance exams.
After his engagement, Sahil allegedly took his cousin's car and drove to Nikki's home around 1 am. CCTV footage shows Sahil entering the apartment. Around 5 am, they are seen leaving. They went in the same car to the Nizamuddin Railway station in South Delhi, ostensibly to catch a train to Goa.
Nikki Yadav wanted to go to Goa with Sahil but he said he couldn't get a ticket, the police said. Then they allegedly decided to go to the bus station to book a trip to any hill town in Himachal Pradesh.
The police suspect Sahil planned to leave Nikki and was trying to mislead her by promising a getaway together.
They didn't get a bus ticket either, so they left, the police say. They parked the car at Kashmere Gate in North Delhi and argued for about four hours.
"Sahil said he was in two minds. This is all his version because through local enquiries, we came to know that he was dancing and having fun during his engagement. So, it is important to corroborate his version with strong evidence including CCTVs, technical evidence along with forensic examination to make this a strong case," said a police officer.
It was Sahil's wedding day and his family kept calling. Around 9 am on February 10, in the middle of screaming match, Sahil strangled his girlfriend using his charging cable, the police say.
He allegedly drove around 40 km to his family's dhaba, or roadside restaurant, with Nikki's body strapped up in the front seat. He left the car at the dhaba with the body in its boot, according to the police. After locking up the dhaba, he went home for his wedding.
Much later, when his family and relatives were sleeping, Sahil allegedly drove to the dhaba around 3.30 am, in another car, to deal with the corpse.
The police say Sahil's plan was to dump the body in the river or a drain. He allegedly moved the body from the car to the fridge in the dhaba.
Sahil allegedly kept Nikki's mobile phone, which was retrieved by the police. Sahil erased all data from his and Nikki's phones. "He knew it was big evidence, so he deleted all chats of their fights," a police officer said.
The police are also checking security footage from all the locations that Sahil has referred to in his alleged "confession" on the killing.
The murder was discovered four days later, on Tuesday (February 14) after a neighbour reported Nikki Yadav missing and the police tracked down her partner.
The crime has similarities with the killing of Shraddha Walkar last year by her boyfriend Aaftab Poonawalla, who chopped up the body into several pieces and disposed of them bit by bit, keeping the parts in his fridge for weeks.

A 50-year-old American woman was found chained to a tree and left to die in a forest in India, police said.
The woman, identified as Lalita Kayi Kumar, was rescued after a shepherd heard her cries on Saturday evening in Sonurli village, located about 450km from India’s financial capital of Mumbai in the south-western state of Maharashtra.
Police registered a case of attempted murder against Ms Kumar’s former husband based on a note scribbled by her at the hospital.
The authorities ascertained her identity and residential address from photocopies of a US passport and a national identity card recovered from her.
”Based on the note written by the woman at the hospital, a case has been registered against her former husband on charges of attempted murder, act endangering life or personal safety of others and wrongful confinement under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS),” Saurabh Agrawal, superintendent of police of Sindhudurg district, said. BNS is India’s official criminal code.
She was transferred to a hospital in the neighbouring state of Goa, Mr Agrawal told the wire agency Press Trust of India. She is “weak” and “not in a position to give her statement”, he said.
Officials do not yet know how long she was left tied to the tree. “The area where she was found had experienced heavy rain,” Mr Agrawal said.
“We have found that the woman, who appears to have been born in the US, had also resided in Goa for some time. We are trying to find out whom she was in touch with in the past few months,” he added.
Police say she appears not to have eaten for several days. The husband, whose name was not disclosed by officials, allegedly hails from Tamil Nadu. Forest inspector Vikas Padve told The Hindu newspaper that while doctors told the authorities she was doing “fine”, Ms Kumar was “suffering from psychiatric issues.
“She is unable to speak and remains under observation,” Mr Padve said.
“She reportedly left her husband after a quarrel,” a police official was quoted as saying by the outlet.
The victim was believed to be living in India for the past ten years, reported the Hindustan Times, quoting officials from the local police station. The authorities have sent a team of investigators to Tamil Nadu and Goa to trace her relatives.
