The way you described sarie in the tags of your Sabo au reminds me a lot about boa and my favorite interpretation of her love for luffy: that boa isn’t really in love w luffy, she’s just so traumatized that she thinks she’s in love the first time she meets a guy that sees her for the person she is and doesn’t judge her for her past. Sarie seems like she’s the same way, with Sabo treating her well and making her believe that she’s in love when she’s rlly just experiencing decency for the first time

Heheheh yeah! I agree strongly on that for Boa and Luffy, I think that Boa does not actually feel romantic attraction to luffy but is just so alienated from this feeling of platonic friendship as a result of being the object of other people’s attraction and having been exposed to that for so long, what she has with luffy is unique and she comes to perceive it as “love,” just not necessarily the kind of love she thinks it is.

That said, with Sarie, I do feel that it is a bit different! It’s not so much “decency” that she is experiencing for the first time from Sabo, but rather honesty. The problem with being a princess is that everyone tells her that they love her, and at some point, she must realize that these are shallow words that people use to endear themselves to her for ulterior motives. I’ve been turning around this phrase in my head: ‘the realm of nobility is not one in which truths are said.’ Sarie herself is such a strong example of this in canon with her verbal tic of triple negations which make it very difficult to understand her, so playing on that, I think she would also have an intimate understanding of the ways nobles twist words and never say things straight out.

Now take Sabo, who has been one of her suitors for the better part of their teenage years, who she knows his parents have been trying to get with her to get an in to the royal family for ages, and he talks to her the night before she makes the decision on who to marry as the princess, who to choose as the third heir to the throne, and he says: “look. We both know that this is something my parents have always wanted more than me. You don’t have to choose me.” And she asks what he would do if he were king, and he answers about all the people he would help and all the ideas he has to better Goa for the masses, and. She’s charmed. I think Sabo is, if nothing else, capable of being extremely extremely genuine about the good he wants to do in the world, and he makes clear to her, in no uncertain terms, that he would be a good king, but doesn’t want to be king because he both respects her choice and knows that he is doing this for ulterior motives.

That honesty, in his moment of vulnerability, is what wins her over. But not quite just that— it is the way that he is so determined to save others, when she has been thinking for the past years about how miserable he looks and how she wants to save him somehow.

Now also, imagine that Sarie has been told for all her life the words “I love you.” And not a single time has those words been said in truth, in full genuine affection and care for her as a person rather than her as a princess, her as a vehicle to the throne, her as a political token for the royal family, her as a mascot and mouthpiece. I think this honesty that Sabo shows is a lifeline she clings onto, because she knows after his confession that he is capable, in moments of vulnerability, of being honest. And I think she truly wants to hear Sabo say to her, honestly, the words “I love you.” I think she wants to know that there is at least someone in the world that truly loves her, and she just thinks it will be easiest with Sabo because she can give Sabo everything he wants: means to help the people through political authority. She just gives it in what she hopes will be an exchange for his honest love.

I have very many thoughts about Sarie haha :) I don’t think she’s a good person, but I do think she has the potential to be a very complex character. This au is largely my way of examining the ways growing up with nobility might have affected the characters that are most closely associated with nobility. I think they must be very fucked up but in different ways from the main one piece cast and its usual supporting characters.

Okay honestly... Sabo and Cara would genuinely work out great as a couple and I'm kinda obsessed with it now.

Like I immediately pictured Sabo infiltrating a gala being held in Cara's home country. He kind of knows how to blend in from his childhood in Goa Kingdom, but he's rusty and imperfect. Most of the people there are too preoccupied with themselves to notice, but Cara does. When the formal dance begins, she makes sure that she ends up dancing with him.

Sabo thinks he's absolutely nailing his act if the princess herself is approaching him, only for Cara to playfully whisper that he really didn't do his research. He's left buttons undone all night, he holds champagne flutes wrong, and he was courteous to the staff. How amateur.

He's already looking around for a quick exit, sure that she's about to scream for the guards, but she calmly continues, asking if he's had a hand in the civil unrest in the country. Then she really throws him for a loop by giving him advice. She tells him which parts of the country have less surveillance, and what groups would be more likely to be sympathetic to his cause or even want to help.

Of course, Sabo is dubious of her. This makes no sense and is highly suspicious. However, she goes through the whole night without ratting him out, and the areas that she said would be safe actually are. So he seeks her out again and really talks to her. He learns about her personal disdain for her family's rule and how much she hates seeing the citizens suffer for it. Even though other revolutionaries are more wary of her, Sabo can empathize with her due to his own background and gives her a chance to prove herself.

They work together to bring down her family, and when they succeed and the people are free, he offers for her to join the Revolutionary Army. Her tactical expertise helped significantly during the take down, and he says he would be a fool to not at least try to convince her. He didn't even need to try, she was happy to join and work with people that can actually appreciate her for her. They go on to become the ultimate power couple.

Body of St. Francis Xavier

Scholar, adventurer, saint, and instigator of the Goa Inquisition.

Tucked in a corner of the party capital of India, the mostly-incorruptible body of Goencho Saib (Lord of Goa), otherwise known as St. Francis Xavier, is on display in the right transept of the Bom Jesus Church in the old Portuguese center of town.

The body was originally transported back to Goa in a lime-slake, from which his body miraculously emerged unmolested.

He was placed on view in a raised reliquary, with annual festivals, where pilgrims had the opportunity to kiss the exposed, miraculously mummified feet of the saint.

The open air was hard on the body, and religious zeal for the relic has taken its toll as well.

Reportedly in 1554, an overzealous worshipper bit off the the pinky toe of his right foot, which then purportedly gushed blood as if from a living body.

In 1614, by order of the church, his right arm was severed at the elbow and brought to Rome.

Born in the Xavier Castle in the Navarre region of what is now Spain in 1506, Francis Xavier began his adult life as a scholar in France.

He then found God and companionship in the formation of the Jesuit order.

He traveled and preached in Italy then came to Goa as a missionary in 1541.

He cared for the ill in the Royal hospital.

He preached in the streets for the conversion and salvation of Hindu, Jewish, and Muslim souls.

Portuguese controlled Goa’s anti-Hindu laws offered civil protections only to Hindus who were baptized and attended certain church services which criticized their previous faith.

Many Jewish Portuguese had fled to the colonies to avoid the persecution of the Inquisition at home, and in Xavier’s time, they saw their religious freedoms dwindle.

In 1545, Xavier wrote to the Pope, requesting that the Inquisition be formally instituted in Goa.

While he waited for a reply, he took to the seas, sailing to Cochin, the Malabar coast, Tamil Nadu, and as far as Malacca and Japan.

The miracles attributed to him took place during these journeys, where he allegedly turned casks of sea water into fresh water for sailors, and brought a boy back to life after he had fallen overboard.

He fell ill and died in 1552 on the island of Sancian while waiting for permission to enter China.

After his death, the inquisition did come to Goa in 1560, in a violent and deadly form.

Voltaire wrote:

“Goa is sadly famous for its inquisition, which is contrary to humanity as much as to commerce. The Portuguese monks deluded us into believing that the Indian populace was worshiping the Devil while it is they who served him.”

The Goa Inquisition did not formally end until 1812.

Since most of the records were destroyed when it was outlawed, it is not known exactly how many people were tried and/or killed, but an estimated 16,000 people were put on trial for relapsing into non-Christian faiths, with unknown numbers killed outright.

The annual non-feet kissing Saints Day Festival is on December 3.

The basilica is now a World Heritage Monument.

The body of Saint Francis Xavier is viewed through its glass and silver casket in 1974 inside the Se Cathedral after being brought from its final resting place in the nearby Basilica Bom Jesus.

It took place during the Solemn Exposition of his sacred relics that occurs every 10 years in Goa, India.

As the first Jesuit missionary and co-founder of the Society of Jesus, Xavier arrived in Goa in 1542 to restore Christianity to the Portuguese settlers there and elsewhere in Asia.

The Pope declared him a saint 70 years after his death in 1552.

Thoughts on One Piece 956 *spoilers

-Where is this place that Bege and Chiffon has landed? They found someone who knows Lola!

-Garp, my boisterous guy! You're being both loquacious and vague. Have a rice cracker!

-What kind of upset are we today, Crybaby-hoshi? Concern? Sad? Shock?

-The pandemonium in the newsroom! Obituary? An ASSASSINATION attempt!?! What happened at Reverie? Morgans's admission to printing lies to sell papers. The WG is bribing him to print an alternate headline. Important enough to send Cipher Pol! What is Wapol calling in about?

-What news is upsetting the Revolutionaries? What happened to Sabo now? Koala looks like she is going to have a PTSD episode. The news has upset residents of the Goa kingdom. Poor Makino. Oh! The baby! Dadan and the mountain bandits! What is being alluding to?

-Blackbeard is mobilizing. What is he trying to get before the Marines get it?

-Koby and Drake's conversation. The revelation of the secret unit.

-The Shichibukai!! I was expecting to see Mihawk, but like this? Boa Hancock's cool reminder: "... I hope they haven't forgotten the reason that we became warlords was because of how powerful we are." They're all ready.

-What a rollercoaster of emotions! So many storylines with so many characters. Garp, Morgans, Koby & Drake, everyone ---all literally having conversations and yet everything is still ambiguous.

-Doffy's amusement probably extends towards even the readers.

-Conclusion: Oda, you cheeky such-and-such! Way to intentionally obfuscate your readers.

Like What? WHAT!?

Sabo ain’t dead, I’m sticking to that. And I feel like Vivi isn’t either, but there is a lot of depression in the air, this ain’t how I wanted to see Makino again for sure. But given Garp’s reaction isn’t as despondent as Ace I’d say Sabo is being framed, maybe for Cobra’s death which is shocking the world.

The Government wants it covered up because it’s a failure, Im wanted to snuff out Vivi, but with the ‘light’ still alive there’s threat against the WG to be turned on by the people. Whether or not Sabo is captured remains to be seen, I doubt they’d try the same stunt as Marineford but with Vegapunk’s latest creation maybe they did overpower Sabo and his Revolutionary squad - especially if Sabo went to try and save Kuma. That could be another route, Sabo and Vivi being two separate things. Morgans did say there was a ton of news happening at once, Sabo could be accused of the damage Kuma has sustained. Because Kuma is still beloved by the people, there’s shirts of him after all! If a picture of Sabo with Kuma got out it could easily be taken out of context. Bonney can also help with an escape using her DF, because she’s after Kuma too

Back to Vivi though, this definitely is the motion that can bring her back into the SH crew, there’s also the opportunity close to home in Rebecca and the Grand Fleet members Sai and Leo. Alabasta will likely be in disarray, but there’s enough allies around them to protect Vivi. Wapol is an interesting twist though, to have information means that he saw something he probably shouldn’t have, we think it’s bad because he’s bad but Wapol’s all about getting attention, so maybe this can bode well for Vivi for once.

Other things though happening, X Drake is still a loyal marine. Not too surprising but interesting that they went this route, seems like the Marines have no control over CP0 either. For a moment I was getting excited that Tashigi and Smoker had already infiltrated Wano but...not yet it seems. Coby made note that they don’t have the force yet but now that he knows about the Alliance the Marines have to Act.

But the main theme of this chapter is being on the run; Morgans needs to flee as CP0 tracked him (Stussy probably is tracking his ship), Blackbeard seems to be on a chase because the big one is happening No More Shichibukai! A Massive moment expected but still impacts when it does. This feels like what Stampede alluded to, the Pirates working as one. Of course right now we only knew of 4 Warlords; Boa, Weevil, Buggy and Mihawk. Obviously, Boa will be confident enough to stand alone but allying with Luffy is something she would definitely jump at, Mihawk knew this was coming and he seems to relish the chance to run, he got Perona out in time to save her from harm (until she jumps into danger again) but I’m more intrigued of where he’ll go, he seemed pretty content in his castle. Then there’s Buggy, Buggy will definitely have to ally with a Yonko, he already supplies to Kaido so I partly expect that to unfold and then Weevil...I dunno really, he’s still after Marco and where Marco is seems to be hidden from the WG (for now...). Despite the destruction of the system, the world has just gotten a lot more dangerous, the fallout when the borders of Wano open is gonna be insane.

But what does this mean? This ‘Post Reverie’/’New World Order’ mini-arc has only just begun and it’s begun explosively. Lands like Alabasta and Goa Kingdom can’t fend off marine forces forever, but what if it all converges? I’ve mentioned in my Tinfoil Theory of Wano that there would be what I called a ‘War of Wars Arc’, the stage Kaido truly craves, maybe 3 Yonko and the WG isn’t enough? What if ALL FIVE Yonko (yes I’m including Luffy), the Marines, the Revolutionary Army and the former Shichibukai fight? It could really end the Yonko Saga in a big way. We can also set up a Luffy/Dragon encounter, set up the new establishment of allies and possibly have a story that has to be overcome before the chase for the One Piece continues So many questions, so little answers...
