Maybe I’m hormonal cause of my cycle but I just want to cry thinking about Kendrick’s halftime performance. Like besides the fact that I’ve always been such a huge fan of him since I was a teen and he dissed Drake on the biggest stage, seeing him be so political at the Super Bowl in New Orleans, Louisiana in front of the most racist mother fucker and other racist fans of the Chiefs when the NFL stopped putting “End Racism” on the field goals all while the Eagles got their lick back from losing to the Chiefs two years ago…is so satisfying. It’s just so many messages put into that performance in less than 20 mins that would go over people’s heads.
It’s more than just rap music. It’s more than just a performance. What Kendrick did was send a literal message to Americans, Black Americans in particular, who already know and live to experience the racism in this country that will only grow because of this administration, that there will always be a way to preserve the history and the culture of this nation’s people who fought hard for their acknowledgment as human beings.
Like, having Samuel L. Jackson playing Uncle Sam critiquing Black American culture and behavior, the dancers forming a divided American flag in the background, the colors being used, the stage structured to look like a game board of sorts, the dancers “marching” down the street, Kendrick saying “the revolution will be televised”, emphasizing “turn his TV off” with all of the strange propaganda ads we’ve seen throughout the Super Bowl being streamed.
Kendrick has always been political in his music and unapologetic of the black experience as an American. But the fact that he performed the way he did on this big stage knowing how racist the NFL is with so many people across the country watching including our excuse of a president that’s threatening the lives of millions of people…it was just so good and powerful to see on live TV. This performance is so important, especially coming after the Grammy’s where people have been having a weeklong debate of why Beyonce’s COWBOY CARTER album deserved to win AOTY and the impact it had on validating the experiences of southern Black Americans and winning in a genre that blacklisted her…this shit is so fucking powerful man. It means so much to me truly. Kendrick you will always be famous.
#kendrick lamar#super bowl 2025#there’s a reason why he won a Pulitzer Prize in 2018 for DAMN#im yapping but im done now i promise#please stream Kendrick and Beyoncé and SZA tomorrow#I know I will#doing this felt like such a big fuck you to Trump#fuck the orange man with my whole fucking chest bitch#and that Nike commercial narrated by Doechii was the best thing ever

I want to cry so bad rn
HOW TF DID BILLIE EILLISH NOT WIN ATLEATST ONE FUCKING GRAMMY? HOW TF BEYONCÉ EVEN GET NOMINATED? Hit me hard and soft dropped May 17 and since then Billie has been the number one artist in the world. IM THE FUCKING WORLD. She literally knocked Taylor swift from that spot in weeks.
Hit me hard and soft has over 5 billion streams worldwide
Cowboy Carter has 2 billion.
Be so beyond for real. Hmhas is a mix of a bunch of different genres, songs abt her past trauma, it literally changed people’s lives. Cowboy Carter is just a bunch of country music that sounds the same.
Im not going to lie when I say Beyoncé did not deserve that Grammy, I don’t care how many years she’s been in the industry. Billie and Finneas are literally lyrical geniuses, their work has meaning behind it, it’s helped so many people and myself with their mental health and just life in general. She was robbed, and the way the camera panned to her every time she lost, they knew what they were doing. Her crying absolutely broke my heart. Hmhas is the album she’s the most proud of, she worked so hard on it just for that?
I can’t name you one song on Cowboy Carter. I can’t name you one song on that album that went crazy with streams. Hit me hard and soft all of those songs went viral. Every.Single.One. And I don’t wan hear the “She has 2 Oscar’s and 9 Grammys she’ll be fine” bullshit SHE DESERVED THAT GRAMMY.
The Grammys is a fucking joke
Edit: I apologize abt the way I expressed my frustration towards the situation, im not md that she FINALLY won a Grammy, no that was long overdue, I just think with the albums it was up against it didn’t make sense. I mean we had Cynthia Erivo (idk if u count the wicked soundtrack as an album but I do) , Ariana Grande, Kalii uches, future, Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, J Cole, SZA, Clairo, Don toliver, Tyler the creator, Doechii, Sabrina Carpenter. Its not a bias thing or racist or anything, im just saying IN MY OPINION they’re are a lot of other albums that deserved it over Cowboy Carter. Hell if she had won for Renaissance I wouldn’t even be mad so if u think I’m just hating on Beyoncé I’m not. And if u disagree that’s fine, just don’t come in my dms or comments calling me names and shit. I agree I went abt it the wrong way, and I sincerely apologize for that but im not going to apologize for saying my opinion. Im not going to delete a post bc y’all are mad fuck no.
If you’re mad. Scroll.

distraction 🌀

notes!!: inspired by tiktok above ^^
warnings: fluff
word count: 1.1k!!
y/n was 2 hrs into her stream on her twitch channel, she had just begun a poll on her stream to listen to albums she hadn’t had the chance to listen to before.
basically a listening party, and a way for her viewers to input and spread their music taste.
“so admins can yall show what are the albums chats saying i should listen to?”
moments later and a few clicks later, y/n moved the poll to the screen to show her viewers.
options of albums to listen to were:
orquídeas - kali uches
negro swan - blood orange
cowboy carter - beyoncé
late registration - kanye
considering the biggest/ most well known artist was beyoncé and kanye , the polls showed the competition between both albums.
seconds later, the poll ended and cowboy carter by beyoncé had won.
30 minutes later, after gasps, snapping and humming, y/n was 75% done with the album. as she heard the beginning another comentary interlude and got up and stretched, still being visble to chat she jumped once she heard a loud chanting in her head phones.
spaghettii had started playing, y/n got up and started tapping her foot while placing her hands on her hips. she was so distracted that she didn’t hear hamzah come inside their apartment, he was became quickly aware that y/n was streaming due to the blaring light from her monitor.
as the lyrics ‘like a snap of my fingers im thanos!’ was yelled by beyoncé, y/n couldn’t help but start twerking due to the hypnotizing song. she wasn’t showing her junk to the camera but having her backside face the wall.
hamzah on the other hand was having a fun time. he couldn’t help but laugh as y/n kept making faces as she rocked her hips.
soon she got lower and lower, THAT caught hamzahs attention. he began to feel his chest tighten as he his desire to be behind y/n as she was dancing grew stronger.
as the song started to progress and get a little slower instrumental wise, y/n went back to her seat and was quickly made aware of hamzahs presence by chat.
“who’s here chat?” y/n said looking around, her eyes meeting hamzahs.
“you saw all that?” y/n blurted as her face turned red.
“yeah, never knew you had that in you y/n,” hamzah chuckled, walking closer to her monitor.
“mhm, guess you never knew i was apart of the beyhive.” y/n said raising her eyebrows.
“yeah, guess not.” he said, still thinking about y/n’s dancing, getting closer to y/n.
y/n could tell hamzah was feeling dirty, but she had to warn him before he kept talking stupid.
“babe i’m on stream,” y/n said pressing her mute button.
hamzah took her finger off the button, and grinned to her.
“babe i don’t care, plus you was bucking your hips in the air.” hamzah snickered eyeing y/n down, putting his warm hand on her back, slowly inching his fingers under her shirt.
y/n’s back straightened quickly, hamzah grinned shifting his head to the camera.
“how’s the listening party going?”
“good, wait you’ve been watching?”
“yeah, nonifications always on for you babe.” he said giving her cheek a quick peck.
soon y/n’s chat filled with hearts and you and hamzahs ship name.
“bruh, look what you did.” y/n groaned. “i still got like 7 more songs. all chats gonna be doing is asking for this.”
“so, give them what they want.” hamzah smiled putting his bag down and letting his hand on y/n’s back go deeper and grab her ass.
a audible gasp came out of y/n.
“hamzah.” she hissed under her breath, holding onto the mic.
hamzah shrugged in response.
y/n took a deep breath, giving hamzah a playful glare before turning back to her chat. "alright, alright, y'all. let's get back to the music!" she said, trying to regain her composure.
as she clicked to start the next track, the chat was buzzing with excitement and heart emojis. "you two are too cute!" one message read, while another said, "this is the best stream ever!"
y/n couldn't help but smile. despite the unexpected interruption, she loved how supportive her community was. and she couldn't deny that hamzah's presence added a special touch to her streams.
as the next song started playing, y/n leaned back in her chair, letting the music wash over her. she glanced at hamzah, who was now lounging on the couch, watching her with a smirk. she felt a warmth spread through her chest, a mixture of love and amusement.
hamzah, sensing her gaze, winked at her. "you know, i could join you for the rest of the stream. make it a duet," he teased.
y/n laughed, shaking her head. "oh really? you think you can keep up with me and beyoncé?"
"absolutely," hamzah replied, standing up and moving closer to her setup. he pulled up a chair next to her, and the chat went wild with excitement.
"alright, chat, you heard him. hamzah's joining us for the rest of the listening party!" y/n announced, her smile widening as she saw the flood of positive reactions.
hamzah settled next to her, slipping his arm around her shoulders. "so, what's next on the list?" he asked, peering at the screen.
"let's see," y/n said, scrolling through the remaining tracks. "ah, here we go. this one’s a classic." she clicked play, and the opening notes filled the room.
as the music played, hamzah gently swayed in his seat, occasionally singing along and making y/n laugh with his over-the-top yapping. they shared stories about their favorite songs, playfully debated the best albums, and even took turns reading out the funniest comments from the chat.
at one point, hamzah leaned in closer, his voice soft in her ear. "you know, watching you like this, so happy and in your element... it’s one of my favorite things."
y/n felt her cheeks warm and her heart flutter. "glad you enjoy it as much as i do," she murmured back, giving his hand a squeeze.
as the final track played, they both leaned back, content and relaxed. y/n turned to hamzah, her eyes shining with gratitude and affection. "thanks for joining me tonight. it made this stream extra special."
"anytime, babe," hamzah replied, pressing a kiss to her temple. "you know i'm your biggest fan."
as they wrapped up the stream, y/n felt an overwhelming sense of joy. not just from the music and the wonderful interaction with her chat, but from the simple, beautiful connection she shared with hamzah. it was in moments like these that she felt truly blessed, knowing that they had something extraordinary.
"goodnight, everyone!" y/n called out, waving to the camera as the stream ended. she turned to hamzah, her eyes sparkling with happiness. "now, where were we?"
hamzah grinned, pulling her close. "i believe we were just getting started."

What's In A Name? Chapter One
Meg Harding and Kate Carter were inseparable until their friends died five ago, then she ran to New Orleans to save lives as a paramedic. But when Javi calls on his two oldest friends to help him collect data, counting on their matching natural instincts for tornadoes, Meg goes home for the first time in years. That's where she meets Tyler and the rest of the Wranglers, the YouTube storm chasers her dad likes to watch, and finds herself fitting in more with them than with Storm PAR. Meg only plans to stay for the week but will it be easy to leave when the dust settles?
If a certain cowboy has a say in it, nothing about leaving is going to be easy.

“Well don’t you two look like a couple of city slickers,” Meg teased two of her oldest friends. Javi, who always preferred to be half dressed was in khakis and a wrinkle-free polo, and Kate, who had never been much of a fashionista, was in a turtleneck and a button-down despite the heat of an Oklahoma summer. Meg was dressed in comfortable jeans and an old New Orleans EMS shirt with the sleeves cut off, her style being the only one that apparently hadn’t changed since college. The only thing new about her were the tattoos covering both her arms and her back.
“You’ve spent too much time in Louisiana, your accent’s startin’ to go sour,” Kate teased, pulling her in for a tight hug. “I missed you Mud Bug.”
“Bite me, Katie my Lady.” Addy had always called them two shades of the same color, a dynamic duo, who had been inseparable from the first day of freshman orientation until their friend’s funerals. It felt like slotting two puzzle pieces together standing side by side again.
“Don’t I get any love?” Javi asked, mock offense filling his voice. Kate and Meg shared a look before each pinching one of Javi’s cheeks, making him wince. “Okay, okay,”
“We missed you too, Jav.”
“A little bit,” Kate patted him on the cheek. Javi pulled both of the women in for a quick hug before pushing them towards the truck.
“Are you two ready to work your weather magic for me? If I’ve only got you two for a week, I don’t want to waste a second of it.”
“We’re going to need two sweet teas before we work any magic, Kate’s been in the city far too long.”
“Two sweet teas, coming up. Now get in, get in, we’ve got two cells forming and my team’s waiting for us.” Kate took the passenger seat and Meg climbed into the back, relaxing into the leather upholstery. Javi and Kate kept casual conversation but the tension between the three of them was palpable. Meg sighed, pain in her wrist sparking up, it never used to get this quiet.
Meg wasn’t paying attention at all when Javi introduced her and Kate to the Storm PAR team, getting weird vibes off of them. They reminded her of how her parents described Jonas’ Nightcrawler team from back in the day. What brought her attention back was the sounds of cheering, loud country music, and honking. Kate looked confused but Meg couldn’t help but smile, it was the Tornado Wranglers. Her dad was obsessed with the channel, watching all of their live streams. Sometimes the old crew would gather at the house and watch the live streams together, cheering and booing like it was a football game.
“Hey, Storm PAR, we’re live on YouTube, say something.” Meg waved at the camera, grinning as she felt her phone buzz, probably her dad having caught sight of her.
“Blow me,” One of the Storm PAR guys shouted and Scott admonished him. Meg rolled her eyes at their antics, were they grown men or schoolchildren?
“Come on now, guys, science is fun,” Boone shouted as they drove off. Kate’s brows were scrunched in confusion,
“Who are they?”
“Chasers out of Arkansas,” Javi answered at the same time as Scott, who with a lot more venom denounced the group as hillbillies with a YouTube Channel. Meg glanced over at where the red truck was now swarmed with chasers, smiling at the whole situation. Tyler Owens was leaning out of the truck, shouting his silly little catchphrase to get the crowd riled up. Meg glanced at her phone,
Dad: You’re in Oklahoma?!?
Meg: Only for a week
Dad: With Kate and Javi???
Meg: I’ll call you later and explain
Dad: Get me a mug!!
Meg rolled her eyes, she would most certainly not be buying her dad a Tornado Wrangler mug, especially not in front of the entire Storm PAR team that seemed to hate them. Tyler looked over, catching Meg’s eye and tipping his hat. Meg stuck her tongue out, laughing and hoping she got picked up on Boone’s wide shot so that her dad would see her.
“That’s Tyler Owens, he calls himself a tornado wrangler.”
“What does that even mean?” Kate scoffed like she didn’t used to call herself a tornado tamer on a regular basis.
“Mean’s our world is going to shit,” Javi sighed. “Alright, let’s figure out which storm we’re going after. Kate, Meg?” He passed them Scott’s tablet. “What do y’all think?” Kate took it, studying it while Meg left her side, going to the open grass where she could stare up at the sky. It didn’t take long for Kate to join her, abandoning the tablet in favor of a dandelion. Meg leaned down, scooping up a handful of dirt. Different shades, same color, doing the same thing in different ways.
“Old school, I like it,” A southern drawl filled with humor called out behind them. Kate turned to look but Meg couldn’t take her blue eyes off of the sky, feeling the instability of the atmosphere in her bones. The storms brewing were pulling her mind in different directions but they couldn’t chase both. She took one last look towards the east and it didn’t feel right, there was no tingling in her fingertips or twist in her gut. It wasn’t the right cell. “Where did you ladies come from?”
“New York,” Kate answered. Meg brushed the dirt off her hands, glancing to the west, the familiar sensations of her undeniable instinct confirming her decision on which way to go. “Mud Mug, mind your manners,” Kate chided, pulling her out of her head. The cowboy was giving both of them an appraising look at Meg and had to admit, he was handsome. Tall, broad-shouldered, obviously strong with the way his muscles filled out his flannel shirt. Maybe she would have to become a subscriber to his channel alongside her dad.
“Sorry, Sweetie Pie. Jav dragged me out here from New Orleans,” After five years, Meg spoke like a local, pronouncing the city with only one syllable. Kate chuckled, “Nice to meet you.”
“Good to meet you ma’am. So, how are you liking working for Storm PAR?” There was something about the way he asked it that made Meg’s skin crawl like he was asking how she liked working for a sweatshop.
“Tyler!” A clean-cut British man with glasses came jogging up before Meg could question him. “Have you figured out which storm we’re going after?”
“Why don’t we ask-” He pointed between the women.
“Kate,”
“Meg.” Tyler grinned, eager for attention like a golden retriever. Meg smiled back, liking the feeling of his attention.
“I’m Tyler,”
“And I’m Ben,” The man shook both their hands. “It’s nice to meet you both. I’m a reporter here to do a piece on American storm chasing. Tyler here has been kind enough to let me tag along.” Tyler patted Ben on the chest, still grinning like an idiot. Meg wondered if his cheeks ever hurt from smiling so much.
“All Ben here had to do was promise to write nothing but good things.” Kate caught Meg’s eyes, looking towards the sky. Meg nodded curtly, letting her know she was on the same page.
“Well, good luck with that,” Kate sassed, pulling Meg away. “West?” Kate whispered,
“100%,” Meg confirmed.
“Now hold on,” Tyler called out, stopping them in their tracks. He had his hands on his hips, playing the role of the unserious cowboy to a T, but his green eyes were studying them like precipitation charts. “Y’all didn’t say which storm we should be going after. The way I see it, west we double our chances, to the east it’s high-risk, high reward.” Was he testing them? Or was he really that bad at chasing?
“You best go for the reward, Sweetie Pie,” Meg kind of hoped he knew she was trying to play him. Kate caught onto her game quickly,
“Don’t want Ben here to think you’re boring,” Kate traced a W onto Meg’s back, confirming her gut feeling. Tyler licked his lips, looking between the two of them with a pensive expression.
“Being boring is never an issue with me, Kate.” Kate huffed with laughter, mumbling I bet under her breath.
“The two to the west are fighting over the same inflow, they’ll choke each other out. The one to the east has the sky all to herself. Precipitation, wind shear, instability, she’s got everything you need to give Ben here a good show.” Damn, she was laying it on thick.
“Don’t you feel it in your bones, Tyler?” Meg teased, turning on her heel. After a few steps she looked over her shoulder to see him watching them with a small smile, “And if you feel it, well, you know.”
Meg’s dad would be fangirling knowing that she had just had a full conversation with Tyler Owens and she knew that if Tyler found out whose daughter she was, he’d be doing some fangirling of his own. Kate excitedly got Javi into the truck, telling him which storm to chase and he didn’t even hesitate to throw all Scott’s data aside to listen to her.
Meg’s heart was pounding with excitement, it felt a little bit like old times as she slid into the back seat of the truck. Out of the window she caught sight of Ben and Tyler watching them, Ben looked confused but Tyler on the other hand was smiling. He must have known they had been playing him, which made Meg all the more excited, he was fun and hopefully could take a joke. When he caught her eye as they drove past, Meg made the tornado motion with her fingers and blew a kiss, grinning from ear to ear when Tyler doubled over with laughter.
“What’s so funny, Mud Bug?”
“Nothing, nothing at all.”
Next Chapter
A/N: All three of the original tornado tamers needs a really long hug and a cup of hot cocoa. Meg's got her dad's instincts, her mom's need for adrenaline, and has probably made more progress on processing her emotions than Javi and Kate combined. Probably.
I don't plan on taking this story anywhere above a T rating but if there's interest, I might make a collection of post-canon one shots later on that include some smut. Who knows.

Anti-Grammys Rant
I'm so done with the Grammys. 2024 had such great albums and who do they give AOTY to? The album people have heard only one song (that Texas song) off. I get it no one's heard New Blue Sun or Djesse Vol 4 either.
But the other nominations?
TTPD, HMHAS, Brat, Short N' Sweet, Midwest Princess, they all deserve it so, so much.
If they wanted to go after numbers, there it is. TTPD. Fastest album to hit 1 billion streams in 6 days. Most streamed album of 2024.
Impact? Brat. 2024 summer will always be remembered as Brat Summer. It was a phenomenon.
Speaking of phenomenon, femininomenon. Midwest Princess had so many bops. Hot To Go, Pink Pony Club, Supernova, and more.
Short n' Sweet already got best pop vocal so I can understand why they didn't give it aoty but Espresso and Please Please Please? How can either win no awards?
HMHAS had overall the best lyrics, production, vocals, and everything, and the way Billie was robbed was just unbelievable. All 5 albums deserved AOTY.
What reasons did they have to give Beyoncé the awards? Except for, of course, Jay-Z paying for the award. The Academy is literally just feeding into the 'Thank You Beyoncé' rumours.
This has nothing to do with Beyoncé being the first black woman to win AOTY since 1999, I'm not being racist, I'm not white. It's about how unfair the Academy is.
Taylor was the most streamed artist on Apple Music and Spotify. She released a double album in between a record-breaking tour, and the audacity to give her no award for it? Bffr.
Who listens to Beyoncé except for her handful millennial fans? I have not heard any songs of Cowboy Carter except for the Texas song, and that too, on social media.
But at least all the other nominees won a Grammy, I'm so sorry for Billie and Taylor because I feel like HMHAS and TTPD were the best albums of 2024 for real.

Halsey's tour hasn't gone down well. Her tour hasn't sold out or close to half capacity just like Beyoncé's tour. Halsey's tickets are cheap at stubhub and ticketmaster and Beyoncé's tickets have been lowered to $200 and it still isn't selling out. These comments are from reddit about Halsey's Hollywood Bowl show. Most people in the audience went to see Evanescence and left. Other were influencers who were given free tickets to go since seats weren't selling. Hollywood Bowl tickets were being sold for $15-25 as I saw it with my own eyes.

None of this shocks me.
With Beyonce, her downfall started when she stole the Grammy for Best Country Album from actual country artists. Lainey Wilson is the rightful country artist who deserved that award. Everybody knows it too.
Beyonce (like Taylor and Adele) is known to allegedly buy Grammy nomination wins by allegedly bribing and giving lavish gifts to The Grammy Voting Committee. It's a common practice. Every time you see the same artists winning the same big Grammy nominations every single year, it's because it was allegedly bought by the artists.
When they say the Grammys are fake - they are not kidding.
So, with Beyonce winning Country Album of The Year for an album that wasn't even country, the tides turned for her. I contribute that to her poor ticket sales for this tour. People in general are over her. I seen firsthand her tickets go for $20 on the day of the show, that's how desperate they are to sell tickets and fill the arena up.
After her husband literally went on stage the year before and whined like a bitch that his wife never won Album Of The Year for none of her albums, all of a sudden she win's album of the year the following year in a category her album had nothing to do with.
Beyonce has a total of 35 Grammy trophies at home but still needed that Album of The Year win no matter what. Even if it came from a Country category.
These people are pathetic.
However, I loved her fake surprised reaction after winning. As if she had no idea she was going to win. Sure Jan.
The Cowboy Carter tour is getting some negative reviews on X and TikTok. As if it wasn't bad enough that tickets weren't selling.
As with Halsey - I'm also not shocked.
Halsey's downfall started in 2020 with her album Manic.
She had a big fanbase back in 2015 - 2019. Her only hit single Without Me did great. She decided to release Manic in 2020 and put her two year old hit single Without Me in her Manic album - which automatically puts all the successful digital sales, physical sales and streaming number success of Without Me into Manic. That made her album Manic double platinum in just one week. No matter how you look at it - it's cheating. It's not illegal to do however, it's ethically disgusting because you're cheating.
Had Halsey left Without Me out of her album Manic, that album would have been a flop. But because she cheated by adding a 2 year old hit song in the album - it went "platinum".
Unfortunately for Halsey, she couldn't add Without Me in her following album If I Can't Have Love, I want Power (which flopped) or the album that came after that one The Great Impersonator (an even bigger flop) - so she is basically done in music.
Capitol Records dropped her and she went on to sign with Columbia Records. They will be dropping her after the next album flops.
Don't even get me started with Halsey's poor ticket sales. It's alleged she had to be talked down by her management from doing an arena tour. She thought she was still doing 2016 tour numbers. Smart move listening to her people and doing smaller theater shows. Even with small theaters, her shows are 50% empty.
Most other artists would of pulled out. That's what Gwen Stefani did for her last tour. She gave the excuse that she wanted to "spend more time with family" but in reality, it was poor ticket sales.
This is why I found it so shocking that Evanescence was opening for Halsey. The hell?! It should be the other way around! Evanescence is such an iconic legendary band!
In what insane world is an iconic legendary rock band like Evanescence opening up for a C list popstar like Halsey?
That's why a lot of people left The Hollywood Bowl show after Evanescence played. They were there for Evanescence not Halsey.
Apparently The warning (a band I never heard of) has their own fanbase too and their fanbase left after they finished playing.
When concerts don't sell out, they usually give tickets away to anyone - especially influencers. That's the same case for Beyonce's concert tickets. They are just trying to fill those seats in.
That's why you have so many people looking bored to death at Halsey's show.
Then you got the ones who just left The Hollywood Bowl show before Halsey even ended her show.

her mind the way she basically recomposes her songs to fit the live environment ugh I’m dying to have renaissance world tour on streaming and I don’t have cowboy carter tickets yet cause I’ve been too broken but I am counting down the days till it starts im so intrigued what other songs shes gonna add into the set and how it’s all gonna look
I could write a whole dissertation about Beyonce’s live performances and how she elevates her music by incorporating her live band. As well as the stage production. The arrangements, the vocals, the BAND. God. I too, cannot wait to see what CC Tour is about to give. I’m sorry you can’t go but there will be videos everywhere so at least you can get a taste. Just a couple more days!!

Beyoncé's Echoville Play

This is just a theory. Enjoy!!!
⚫ The Structure
Beyoncé is going by the 3 act play route for this roll out. This is the build up from the beginning to end of a play and how it's being done. Since we're at the midpoint so far in the COWBOY CARTER era, I think it's more coming (and not a tour). Here, I will explain how everything ties together and my theory on what's to come for Act III.
⚪ Act I: RENAISSANCE (Beginning)
⚪ Opening Scene
Teases RENAISSANCE in Vogue in June 2022
Releases RENAISSANCE in July 2022
⚪ Inticing incident
Teases visuals or movie in "I'M THAT GIRL" teaser in August 2022
Teases RENAISSANCE Tour in February 2023
Kicks off the tour in May and ends it in October of 2023
⚪Plot Point One: Starts Act II⚪

🟡 Act II: COWBOY CARTER (Middle)
🟡 Pinch Pt. 1
Teases COWBOY CARTER at the Grammys in February 2024.
Put out 2 singles (TEXAS HOLD EM and 16 CARRIAGES) during the Superbowl in February 2024
COWBOY CARTER releases in March 2024
🟡 Temporary Triumph
Performs for the NFL halftime show on Christmas 2024
Releases BEYONCÉ BOWL on Netflix the next day
Teases Act II part II or a new song, which is happening on a later date.
_____Midpoint/Plot Twist(Today)_____
🟡 Pinch Pt. 2 ( Theorizing what could happen)
Releases a song or a deluxe of COWBOY CARTER on (this is just a guess) maybe in February, March or in the middle of the year (June or July).
Or possibly put out 2 singles like she did the last time and release the deluxe on the one year anniversary of the album's release. She could possibly tease whats to come in another magazine for Vogue or Rolling Stone (hint hint)
🟡 Calm Before The Storm (Theorizing what could happen)
It's going to be silent until she announces she will perform again at a different location. Perhaps a residency in Vegas or another event.
🟡 Black Moment (Theorizing what could happen)
I think after she does a performance or puts out the final product, she's officially going to end Act II. It's going to be silent for a moment, and then start subtly teasing Act III, which leads me to my Act III theory on how it might go.
🟡Plot Point Two: Starts the final Act...Act III🟡
🔴 Act III: BETTY BLACK... Theory (Resolution) 2026-2027
🔴My Theory on the Betty Black rollout:
I think she's going to do a surprise drop this time ( the third act of a play is normally when it becomes intense and whenever Beyoncé does a surprise drop, it becomes intense... in a good and exciting way for the fans.) I feel as though all her endeavors as far as products, performances, and releases are going to be surprises during the BETTY BLACK era. Also, I have reason to believe she's going to release another trailer just like she did for "I'M THAT GIRL", but I think it's going to be more in the trailer than we think.
🔴 Revelation
Begins to tease Betty Black in Vogue or Rolling Stone magazine giving us tidbits or hints on the Echoville movie
Releases BETTY BLACK in May 2026
Shows up with dark or black hair
🔴 Decision
In 2027, in February after the Superbowl, announces the Betty Black Tour
Kicks off the tour from late April to early to mid October
Releases a new product (different from the Sir Davis, Cecred, or the Perfume line
Release a perfume called "Lé Ombre (the shadow)", Lé Rouge (the red), or "Lé Flamme (the flame). The final perfume of the perfume line.
And release another Cecred hair care product
🔴 Regroup
Comes out with the official trailer for Echoville and has some parts from that "I'M THAT GIRL" teaser some days after the tour
Starts coming out with posters for the movie with the release date, which I'm gonna guess a week before the movie is in theaters or on a streaming platform
🔴 Climax
She released the Echoville movie which would probably be on October 31st or in the same week of.
🔴 Resolution
Release a video of her telling us thank you for supporting her
Probably announce something prior to ending the entire three acts entirely.
Thank you for reading my theory and thoughts- ☺️❤️

Full Interview/Article By Lucy Feldman Below The Cut!
'Sabrina Carpenter is settling into a tiny banquette, one leg in pinstripe capris folded onto the bench, when she orders a… cappuccino. The obvious joke hangs in the air. “I've intentionally stopped myself from getting them now,” the “Espresso” singer says. The last time she was at this particular French restaurant in downtown New York, they surprised her with a round of espresso martinis.
It’s the kind of thing that surely happens all the time, now that the 25-year-old artist—unmissable with big, bright blonde curls and a 5-ft. frame—has rapidly become one of the most famous women in pop culture. To say that “Espresso” was one of the songs, if not the song, of the summer hardly captures the extent of her reach. The disco-inflected bop, released in April, became her first to exceed a billion streams on Spotify, where it hit No. 1 globally. But Carpenter’s buzz only got louder in June when she dropped the music video for “Please Please Please” (another Spotify global No. 1), co-starring her rumored boyfriend, the Oscar-nominated actor Barry Keoghan. And the singer sent the internet into a full-blown tizzy in August when she released her clever and cutting, genre-blending album Short n’ Sweet alongside another viral video: a campy, Death Becomes Her-influenced love-triangle romp, co-starring Jenna Ortega, for “Taste.” The album, now certified platinum, hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 at release and became the third biggest debut of the year, trailing only Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter and Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department.
Carpenter is everywhere. Swift, Beyoncé, Adele, Christina Aguilera, and Selena Gomez have all sung her praises. If you didn’t catch her on the season finale of Saturday Night Live, you probably saw her on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon. If you didn’t see her at Coachella, you definitely tuned in for her performance at the VMAs. And if you missed her opening for Swift on 25 stops of the Eras tour, you cannot be helped. The moment Carpenter herself says she knew she’d reached a new level: when there was a joke about her in Dan and Eugene Levy’s opening monologue for the 2024 Emmys. “That was probably the first time I was like, Oh, I'm not even there.”
When we meet for an afternoon pick-me-up, just over a month has passed since the album release, and Carpenter has been going nonstop. She’s back home in New York after the first three shows in her sold-out, 33-date Short n’ Sweettour, fresh off an 11-hour bus ride from Detroit. Hence the need for caffeine. “TMI,” she adds, “But I’m in my luteal phase, and just feeling like a monster.” When the server comes by with coffee, she orders a chocolate mousse for us to share.
Carpenter may appear to have materialized from nowhere as a fully formed pop star, but she has been grinding for 16 years. Growing up in East Greenville, Pa., she started posting videos of herself singing on YouTube when she was 9. Her big break came at 13, when she landed a role in Girl Meets World, a reboot of the classic ’90s series Boy Meets World. Carpenter makes a point to note that she signed with her first label, Disney’s Hollywood Records, at 12—before she booked the TV show. “I knew that I wouldn't be able to thrive as a recording artist the same way I would have been able to working on a show as a child actor,” she says, “which I know sounds weird to have that perspective at 12, but I was really lucky to.”
Carpenter released four albums with the Disney-owned label between 2015 and 2019 and continued to act, in movies like Adventures in Babysitting, The Hate U Give, and Tall Girl. But she couldn’t quite break through to the mainstream as an artist. “For a long time, I was constantly guided and misguided,” she says. “I'm so grateful for all of those times where I was led astray, because now I'm a lot more equipped going into situations where I have to trust my own instincts.”
Her 2022 album Emails I Can’t Send—her first more adult project on a new label—was an opportunity to do just that. She put out a collection of songs about heartbreak, attraction, and scrutiny that were wiped clean of Disney’s perfectionistic sheen. “My last album was f-cking sad, straight up,” Carpenter says. She describes the first stretch of the pandemic, when she was 21, as a time when she realized she wanted to “make some mistakes,” or at least be less hard on herself. “I wanted to make sure to still be young while I’m young… To go through your life trying to be a little robot angel, you’re going to have a lot of regrets later,” she says. “That’s also why during that time of my life I was a little bit of an emotional wreck.”
The album contained songs that fans connected with tantalizing gossip, having deduced that Carpenter might have been the “blonde girl” described as winning over the person (purportedly fellow Disney actor Joshua Bassett) who broke Olivia Rodrigo’s heart in “Driver’s License.” Carpenter’s song “Because I Liked a Boy” seemed to respond: “Now I'm a homewrecker, I'm a slut / I got death threats filling up semi-trucks.”
“Because I Liked a Boy” made an impression during Carpenter’s Eras tour performances—but it was another song, “Nonsense,” about getting tongue-tied around a crush, that got new audiences hooked on the cheeky sensibility she's become known for. Carpenter says the tour with Swift, where she had no set, dancers, or props for her act, taught her how to stand in front of a crowd alone and put on a show. It stirred up hype for a tradition, which had begun on her Emails tour, where she delivered a punny new outro for “Nonsense” each night, creating viral clip after clip as the lines got more suggestive and ridiculous. One night in Australia: “Broke up ’cause the size was underwhelming/ Tried to give him pointers, wasn’t helping/ Maybe I just need a boy from Melbourne.” She confirms that she’s done with the bit, at least for now. “The extreme ‘it's over forever’ is just not in my repertoire. Maybe I’ll feel random one day and bring it back,” she says, but, “that was for that album, for that era. You’ve got to keep a thing good.”
Carpenter may be only 25, but she is coming into her own with the earned confidence of a veteran, and she knows how to give the people what they want. Her brand—she’s short, she’s funny, and she’s horny—is specific enough to feel authentic but also general enough to capture an ever-broadening audience. And she’s not afraid to make a joke about herself. “If you want to call me a Polly Pocket, a Bratz doll, I don't care,” she says. “You'll meet me and then you'll be like, damn, she talks a lot more than the dolls do.” It takes a certain amount of time under pressure to build the sense of self that Carpenter embodies—we’ve seen it this year with artists like Chappell Roan and Charli XCX, too. It’s hard to remember now, but even Swift was once a rising country-music star trying to break into the mainstream.
Jack Antonoff, who worked with Carpenter on multiple Short n’ Sweet tracks, was following her career long before they collaborated. “I look at all Sabrina's work, and she's just crystallized more and more,” he told TIME in a recent interview. “I guess the lesson there is there was nothing wrong. It was just about staying the course. That's really what it is to be an artist.”
Carpenter is reaping the benefits of her persistence. “There were so many things I dreamt of doing as a little girl I got to do this year that felt like such a cool, sweet, little bucket-list moment for my younger self,” she says. “I literally threw up when I found out about SNL. Not to be graphic.” The VMAs performance was another dream realized. “I grew up watching those performances and being like, I want to do that. But then it all just seemed so—not even out of reach, just like I had a different plan in my head of when it was all supposed to happen,” she says, meaning it wasn’t supposed to take this long. But now that everything has unfolded the way it has, Carpenter can see the advantage. “I feel so prepared for these moments,” she says. “If I was even 17 or 18, I think I would have been way, way more nervous and intimidated.”
The next thing that could make her throw up with excitement, if the call came tomorrow: “If I could perform at the Grammys.”
As polished and well-packaged as the Sabrina Carpenter brand is, it’s her willingness to be messy that really makes it all work. In Short n’ Sweet, she’s in turns cocky, desperate, petty, brutal, deliriously horny, and not all that pressed. The effect is that, no matter the drama at hand, Carpenter refuses to take herself too seriously. “I like the fact that I just put out a song that starts with ‘I can't relate to desperation,’ and then I’m putting out the most desperate possible sounding chorus I could in my life,” she says, of “Espresso” and “Please Please Please.” “The idea is like: if everything is super calculated, then the second you make a statement, that's who you are for the rest of your life—as opposed to it being like: or you can be super confident one day and then the most emotional wreck the next day.”
Carpenter describes Short n’ Sweet as a “time capsule” of a certain period in her life, and a few songs on the album seem to, fairly overtly, reference a relationship she had with Shawn Mendes during off-again stretches of his past romance with Camila Cabello. (See: the lyrics of “Coincidence” analyzed against timelines of who was seen where with whom. See also: the roast ballad “Dumb & Poetic,” “Taste,” and a particularly savage line of “Slim Pickins.”) Likewise, casting Keoghan in the video for “Please Please Please,” a song about begging her actor boyfriend not to embarrass her, pretty much eliminated the possibility that anyone would think it wasn’t about him.
Carpenter won’t say specifically who she was thinking of when writing any of her songs—no savvy pop star would—but she is willing to talk about the feelings within them. “It'll probably bite me in the ass at some point,” she says, knocking wood, “but it's been a really therapeutic album to be able to just say what I'm thinking.” One example: “Please Please Please” captures a love-hate dynamic that will be familiar to anyone who’s found themselves wondering if they’re in the wrong relationship. “I’m so blunt and forward. I feel like, what is the reason that we're all hiding from each other when these are just real things? Sometimes men embarrass you. That's super normal,” she says.
Now, starting to see crowds sing along with her on tour, she’s recognizing how relatable that song in particular is. “This just really hits for the girls that have every right to go back to someone who isn't good for them, and know that those mistakes are absolutely human to make, and repeatedly.” She takes a bite of chocolate mousse, a dollop of whipped cream and a few cookie crumbles on top. “The amount of times that we've all been with people we shouldn't be,” she continues. “We either learn it the hard way, or we are a miracle and we end up marrying that person.”
When the lights dim before Carpenter takes the stage at Madison Square Garden two nights later, the collective scream is head-splitting. She dashes onstage in a towel that she opens, eyebrows raised, to reveal a glittering yellow Victoria’s Secret bodysuit. The show takes off from there, an hour and a half of glitzy group dance sequences, intimate ballads, and winking innuendos set in a two-story New York City penthouse. There’s a fireplace in the living room, a moody, after-dark balcony, a pink satin bedroom, and even a bathroom, where, in an offbeat highlight of the show, Carpenter sits on a toilet and ruminates as she sings about a hot dummy who jerked her around. “Some songs feel like bathroom thoughts to me, like when you're at a party and you go to the bathroom to cry or judge yourself in the mirror,” she says. “It's comical but also brings a little groundedness to the show.”
Despite Carpenter’s years of experience—including opening for Swift on the massive Eras tour—the intensity of playing her own arena shows is new. “The first two shows, there were enough technical difficulties to ruin my life,” she says. There’s a part when she gets lifted 18 feet into the air on a giant heart—on the first night, she got stuck at the top. “I was up there far longer than I was supposed to be,” she says, a reminder of why, after seeing Matty Healy perform on a rooftop set for a 1975 show, she thought playing with heights on tour would be too scary. Suspended over the crowd in Columbus, Ohio, she just kept singing and hoped that someone offstage was working to get her down. (They did.) “If one thing malfunctions, it can affect the whole show,” she says. “So I've just been learning, rewiring my brain, to be able to handle stuff like that.” Aside from tech issues, the hardest part is not tripping—Carpenter is constantly running up and down stairs. There was no intensive pre-tour training regimen, and her body is feeling it. “I've started doing ice baths like a little spiritual man,” she admits, a tad embarrassed.
Throughout the concert, Carpenter quite literally wears her sexuality on her sleeve. “Femininity is something that I've always embraced. And if right now that means corsets and garter belts and fuzzy robes or whatever the f-ck, then that's what that means,” she says. She adds a babydoll negligee over the bodysuit in the first act, changes into a black lace catsuit and slips into a slinky robe, both by French designer Patou, in the second, and, in the final set, steps out in an ultra-sparkly two-piece halter top and skirt from Ludovic de Saint Sernin, made with crystal mesh donated by Swarovski. Carpenter’s stylist Jared Ellner teases that there will be different lyrics printed onto Carpenter’s tights throughout the tour: they did “Taste me” for night one and “I’m working late” for Madison Square Garden. The singer notes that this is the first tour where she has doubles of her outfits. “In the past it would be like, if that outfit has stains on it, good luck,” she says. Some of the corset dresses she wore on the Eras tour were in pale colors: “I would sweat, and it would just be terrible.”
With all the lingerie and innuendos in mind, I ask Carpenter if, a generation later, she has been spared the vilification that artists like Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera suffered for daring to incorporate their sexuality into their work. “No, I definitely get that as well,” she says. She’s trying to remember that social media is an echo chamber. “Someone told me this, whenever I would get upset or feel like I'm the only one getting criticized for something other people are able to do seemingly so freely: I'm the one that's seeing all the negative sh-t about myself. My friends don't see that.”
Artists like Madonna, Aguilera, Spears, Beyoncé, and Rihanna all helped pave the way, Carpenter says. “But you'll still get the occasional mother that has a strong opinion on how you should be dressing. And to that I just say, don't come to the show and that’s OK. It's unfortunate that it's ever been something to criticize, because truthfully, the scariest thing in the world is getting up on a stage in front of that many people and having to perform as if it's nothing. If the one thing that helps you do that is the way you feel comfortable dressing, then that's what you’ve got to do.”
Her approach seems to be working. “Juno,” a seductive pop song that references the 2007 teen-pregnancy movie, brings a show-stopping moment when Carpenter drops into a suggestive position and delivers the line, “Have you ever tried this one?”—then rises into the air on the heart-shaped platform. At Madison Square Garden, she bends on her knees, whips her hair, and jumps up and down above the crowd, ebullient.
Somewhere in the arena is Carpenter’s mom, seeing the show for the first time. Her dad and 94-year-old grandfather came to opening night in Columbus. “My fans online are like, I can’t believe she's bending over in front of her grandparents!” Carpenter says. “I'm like, girl, they are not paying attention to that. They’re just like, I can’t believe all these people are here.”
It feels a little absurd to ask Carpenter what’s next—she’ll be on the road through March, and isn’t that enough? But she’s already tinkering with new songs (a constant practice) and she hints that there are “a few projects” she’s working on for after the tour. In the nearer term, Halloween is coming up; she’ll go big, and she’ll take it as a massive compliment if you choose to dress up as her. And in December, she’ll release a holiday special on Netflix. “It's an hour of literal nonsense,” she says. “If people are expecting boring, me singing by a tree, it's not that. It's so fun, so chaotic. There are so many guests that I’m excited about.”
To Carpenter, it’s all still a bit surreal. She says she’s been looking out at the crowds at night, checking to make sure they’re really all there to hear her songs. It makes her easy to root for: the girl who found her way into this world before she knew who she was, finally finding the success she’s worked so hard for only now that she can trust herself to do it all her way.
I make a comment about how much experience she has behind her, despite being so young. She says thank you, and it’s clear she means it. “People like to make you feel like, when you’re above 21 in this industry, you’re haggard,” Carpenter says, her laugh filling the air. “But I’m trying to remember that I’m still quite young.”'

I want to do something that I did for the first time on my other blog around this time a couple years ago. These are some of my favorite songs from 2024. They're not necessarily at the very top of my list of favorite songs of the year. But they're a sampling of songs that put a smile on my face during the year. Enjoy!
youtube
Beyoncé - Texas Hold 'Em
This was the first single and biggest hit from Cowboy Carter, the second of a rumored trio of Renaissance albums Beyoncé release earlier in 2024 (with the third - if there IS one - likely to get a release sometime in 2025 or beyond). "Texas Hold 'Em" is pure fun through and through and had me bouncing in the Spring and Summer.
youtube
Chappell Roan - Hot To Go!
This singer hailing from Missouri has been working the songs from her album ever since it came out in 2020. Thanks for viral exposure, those songs got their much deserved big breakthrough in 2024. I like a few of those songs but my favorite is the catchy as hell "Hot To Go!," which could also be used to describe how I've been feeling all year long...and for much longer than that!
youtube
October London - Back To Your Place
October London has been trying for his big break since the late 2010s and got it in a big way in 2024 with a string of R&B hits including "Back To Your Place," which was the biggest of all of them. Patterning himself musically after the late Marvin Gaye circa the early/mid-1970s, it's easy to hear Gaye's influence there. But make no mistake, London's talent is purely his own. And "Back To Your Place" is the perfect song to have playing in the background during alone time with that special someone in your life.
youtube
Teddy Swims - Lose Control
Speaking of searching for a breakthrough, Teddy Swims spent much of the past several years posting original recordings and covers of songs by other artists on YouTube, SoundCloud, and various other streaming services. He got the hit he was finally after with "Lose Control," an achingly passionate song about being so into someone that you can't stand to be away from them. If I had to name my favorite song of the year, it would probably be this one.
youtube
Tommy Richman - Million Dollar Baby
I'll just say it. "Million Dollar Baby" isn't everyone's cup of tea. But it is SO mine. I love the falsetto and old school, funky R&B vibe of this catchy track. He may end up being a one-hit wonder. Hopefully that one be the case, but we'll find out. Regardless of that, this one was one of my very favorites of 2024.
youtube
Vanessa Williams - Legs (Keep Dancing)
Did anyone have Vanessa Williams returning music on their Bingo card in 2024? If you did, you were more with it than the rest of us. After focusing on acting for much of the past 25 years or so, it was good to have her back with a jam worthy of comparison to some of her late 80s/early 90s bangers. It definitely kept me dancing all year long!

What's In A Name? Chapter Six
A/N: Cathy's not playing fair
AO3 Link
Previous Chapter
“Meggy Harding, you are a sight for sore eyes,” Cathy Carter called coming from the direction of the old barn. “Come here, honey,” Meg hurried down the porch to meet her on the lawn, letting herself be swept up into one of Cathy’s strong hugs. “You’re getting skinny, have you been taking care of yourself?”
“Been tryin’ to,” Meg let her second mom place kisses all over her face. “But I’ve been busy.” Cathy pinched her cheek, giving her a playful glare.
“Well, I’ll cook up a big dinner. You here for Kate?”
“Always,” Meg tipped her head back to where Tyler remained on the porch, “And I brought a friend just in case my boot up her ass ain’t enough.” Cathy’s gaze shifted over Meg’s shoulder and the older woman perked up,
“Honey, he’s cute,” She said less than stealthily, wiggling her brows. “He your boyfriend?”
“Cathy, please,” Meg whined, tugging on Cathy’s arm. “Please be the one adult in my life actin’ normal about this man.”
“Fine, fine, I’m on my best behavior.” She messed Meg’s hair, moving past her towards the porch. “And who might you be, honey?”
“Tyler Owens, ma’am. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
“Pleasure’s all mine, especially since you brought Meggy here to see me,” Tyler’s smile was big and bright. He was every parent’s dream, standing there all handsome, every sentence coming out of his mouth starting or ending with “ma’am.”
Meg abandoned them, wandering off to the barn where she found Kate watching her old science project make a tornado.
“Never gets any less impressive, Katie my Lady.” Kate glanced over her shoulder with a sad smile.
“Never thought we’d be back in the barn,” Kate’s accent was a little more pronounced, heavy with emotion. “Mom never cleaned it out,” Meg looked around, taking in the plastic covered tables. Without lifting the sheets, Meg knew what was beneath each one. All of Kate’s research, Addy’s drawings, Jeb’s cameras, and my binder filled with diagrams of the human body and notes on everything that could go wrong with it. The plan back then had been to become a doctor, Meg hadn’t thought about that dream in a long time.
“We left a lot of things unfinished,”
“Wonder why.” Kate clicked off the simulator, leaning back against the table. “What are you doing here, Meg?”
“I smacked Javi, Tyler stopped me before I could hit him for real.” Kate chuckled, running a hand down her face. “We didn’t kill them, Kate.”
“I’m going back to New York,” Meg sighed. If Kate ran again, there was no getting her back, she knew that. “Don’t try and stop me.”
“We gotta do something, Katie, and runnin’s not an option anymore.” Kate’s response was cut off by Cathy and Tyler strolling into the barn, laughing to themselves.
“You brought Tyler?” Kate snapped, angry. Meg’s temper spiked back,
“What was I supposed to do, steal his truck?” Kate flinched, “Not everything can be solved by runnin’, Kate, sometimes you’ve gotta chase.”
“Well, maybe I don’t want to!” Kate shouted, tears streaming down her face, “Not everyone’s okay with the people they love-”
“Kate, go set the table,” Cathy shouted over them both, “Meg, cool off.” Dying. That was the word Kate was going to use and even though Cathy had stopped her, Meg heard it all the same. Kate saw Meg accepting what had happened to their friends as her not caring? It was like a punch to the gut, Meg physically faltering where she stood. Cathy took off after Kate, who rushed out of the barn, sobbing, and Tyler crossed the room to her.
“I’m fine,” She was not fine. “We just,” Tyler wiped away her tears with his sleeve, concern evident on his face. “This barn brings up a lot of memories.” Tyler took a good look around, “Kate’s havin’ a hard time dealing with that.”
“Just Kate?” Meg snorted, pulling her hair out of its ponytail. “Going to be honest, darlin’, didn’t think I’d walk in here to find you two arguing.”
“Yeah, well, we’ve known each other for a decade and I’m pretty sure that was our first,” Meg shook her head. “God fucking dammit, I never shoulda left New Orleans.”
“Hey, hey, hey, no need for that,” Tyler smoothed her bangs back, kissing her forehead. “Friends fight. Boone and I get into it all the time, you two will be okay.” Meg wrapped her arms around Tyler’s waist, resting her head against his chest. “I promise, darlin’, everything’s going to be okay.”
“It’s not, Ty, you can be as charmin’ as you like but I’ve got to help Javi finish getting his data and go home. It’s the only helpful thing I can do while I’m here.”
“About that…” Tyler stroked her back and Meg’s stomach dropped.
“He’s not helping people…is he?” Tyler began to fill her in on all the dirty details of Storm PAR’s involvement with Marshall Riggs and how they took advantage of people in distress to fund their research. All her earlier fight left her body with a great sigh, broken defeat replacing it. “That’s it, I’m going home.” Meg tried to pull away but Tyler held her tight, “Ty.”
“I thought you said running wasn’t an option,”
“Then call me a fuckin’ hypocrite and take me to the airport.” Meg pushed one more time but Tyler still didn’t budge. “You can’t hug me until I change my mind, Ty, it’s not gonna work.”
“Darlin’,” Tyler kissed her forehead again. “If you still feel that way in the morning, I’ll take you to the airport.” Meg expected to feel relieved but instead, she felt even more dejected.
“How’s it going in here?” Cathy came back through the doors, “You cooled down enough for dinner, Meggy?”
“I’m goin’ home tomorrow,” Tyler finally let her pull away, only for Cathy to take Meg’s face in her hands. A disapproving look on her face.
“Unless you’re talking about visiting your mama, I don’t want to hear it, honey.” She opened her mouth to argue but Cathy steamrolled right over her. “What you’re going to do is eat some dinner and get some sleep, then you’re going to finish putting your boot up my daughter’s ass and finish what all of you started. Do you hear me, young lady?”
“Yes, ma’am.” Cathy turned her gaze to Tyler, pointing at him,
“And you, she tries to run, you stop her.”
“Already on it, ma’am.”
“Good, knew I liked you. Now come on, let’s eat.”
It took less than a minute being back in each other’s presence for the girls to make up, throwing themselves at each other. Hugging and tearfully apologizing to each other, much to Cathy’s amusement and Tyler’s visible relief. Besides her great aunt Meg’s cooking, Cathy’s cooking was Meg’s favorite, and Cathy kept scooping more food onto her plate until she was ready to burst.
Then the stories started, Cathy was hell-bent on embarrassing both girls and Tyler was all ears, teasing them both. His hand was resting on Meg’s knee, tethering her to him like a lifeline. Things soured quickly the second Cathy brought up their old project, Kate storming off in the most polite way possible.
“Tyler, why don’t you go read through their old research, it’s in the white binder with the cloud on it.”
“I don’t want to push my luck with your daughter ma’am.” Meg patted his thigh, giving him the silent approval, “If you’re sure.”
“Come on, honey, I’ll wash, you dry.”
Meg turned on some 90s country music on her phone to fill the silence while they washed the dinner plates, Cathy was the one to break the silence.
“He seems like a good man, Meggy.” Cathy handed her a dish to dry.
“He is,” She agreed. “Don’t tell me my dad’s got you bettin’ on my wedding too.” Cathy gave a little shrug, failing to fight a smile. “Busy bodies, I swear.”
“What? You expect us to see you with a cowboy gentleman, who seems to love storms as much as you do, and not hear wedding bells?” Meg groaned, taking another plate to dry.
“At least tell me you’re not in on Rabbit’s pool.” The silence was deafening, “Cathy!”
“Well, there is only one bed in the guest room.” She didn’t know who she wanted to strangle first, Cathy or Rabbit. “And you and Kate shouldn’t be sharing a twin bed, the guest room has a full.”
“You’re killin’ me. So, when I wasn’t looking you pulled my bag outta Kate’s room and put it with Tyler’s? Is that what you’re tellin’ me?”
“I’ve got a hundred bucks on it happening before the end of storm season and no one said I had to play fair.”
“Dirty, no good cheater,” Meg mumbled. They then settled into silence again, finishing the rest of the dishes.
“Has Kate been chasing again? She said she wasn’t.” Meg hummed, drying off the last dish and putting it away in the cabinet.
“Javi asked us to come down and help him collect data.” God, things had seemed so much simpler only a few days ago. “So, yeah, we’ve been out chasin’ again.”
“I’m proud of you for coming back, Meggy, proud of all of you.” Meg leaned against the counter, staring up at the ceiling. There was a red mark in the center from where Parveen had eaten a Babybel Cheese, rolled the wax into a ball, and tossed it around. The little wax ball had stuck to the ceiling, the wax never fully coming off.
“I don’t know if I’m back yet, Cathy.” She tossed the dish rag over her shoulder with a sigh. “I want to help people and as much as I love chasin’, it ain’t as helpful as my job back in New Orleans. Those people,” She thought of the last patient she had transported before leaving. A ninety-year-old woman with chest pains, she had told Meg her whole life story in the back of the rig. She wasn’t scared of dying, no, June Bishop was perfectly content. Miss June had lived a long life, she had gotten married young and had three sons, all of whom went to serve in the military, she had lost everything in Katrina like so many others, and had lived long enough to see all of her grandchildren, and one great-grandchild born. Meg had held her hand the whole way to the hospital. “Those people I can help in a tangible way. I mean, if Kate,” Tears pricked her dry eyes. “If we could finish what we started, I think that’s the only thing besides a funeral that could get me to come back.”
Cathy gathered her up in a hug, both of them leaning against the counter. After some time passed, Kate came down from her room, and without a word she joined them in the embrace. A little while later, Meg shot off a text to Lily.
Meg: How’s everything going?
Lily: Boone’s a bit butt hurt but he’ll get over it - you?
Meg: Touch and go
Tyler seemed surprised to find Meg brushing her teeth in the bathroom attached to the spare bedroom when she spotted him in the mirror.
“Not that I’m complaining but I figured you’d be sharing a bed with Kate,” Tyler leaned against the door jamb of the bathroom and there was something so domestic about the whole situation that caught Meg off guard. She’d had plenty of boyfriends over the years, none lasting more than a month before either she got tired of them or they got tired of her. Sleepovers with men weren’t something she was used to though, even in a relationship she liked to sleep alone, kicking her dates out at the end of the night.
“I did too,” She replied after spitting and rinsing her mouth. “I’ve got to wash my face if you want to get changed.”
“Yes, ma’am,” He closed the door and when he was done, opened it again, watching her dry her face with a soft, pink towel. “Are you okay with the sleeping arrangements, darlin’, or should I take the couch?”
“I’m fine if you are, I am going to give Cathy an earful for it in the morning though.” Tyler followed her to the bed, claiming the side closest to the door.
“Sounds like there’s more to it than a lumpy couch.”
“Oh, there is,” Meg huffed, relaxing into the pillows, breathing in the scent of air-dried laundry. “My family’s got all sorts of bets running on us and Cathy’s bein’ a cheat.” Tyler shifted onto his side and she could feel his eyes on her while she stared at the ceiling.
“Bets that involve us sharing a bed?”
“Yes, sir,” She drawled sarcastically, turning off the lamp on her side of the bed. “It’s embarrassin’.”
“Well,” Tyler sighed, “I think if I’m being bet on, I should know what for.” Why? Meg closed her eyes. Why was her family like this?
“They bet on how long, Jesus Christ,” She took a deep breath, “They bet on how long it would take me to, and I quote, ride the cowboy.” Tyler, thank God, didn’t say anything but he did chuckle and she could feel his eyes on her. Meg wanted the bed to open up and swallow her whole, her face burning with embarrassment.
“And the other bet?” Meg took another long, deep breath before answering.
“They’re bettin’ on us getting married, Arkansas,” She flipped to face away from him. “Now go to sleep.” Tyler’s hand gripped her waist, flipping her to her other side so they were face to face. “I’m not talking about this, Ty.”
“You’re cute when you’re annoyed,” He squeezed her hip, giving her a soft smile that made her heart beat like crazy. He was backlit by the lamp on his side of the bed, a soft, yellow light highlighting him in an angelic way. “You scrunch your nose like this,” He imitated her and he looked adorable. Meg giggled, bopping his nose.
“Stop, I’m trying to be mad and you actin’ sweet ain’t helping.” He shrugged,
“Well excuse me for not wanting my girl to be mad.” His girl. Those words weighed on her chest like a cat curling in for a nap, warm and comforting.
“You are taking this whole thing about my family bettin’ on us having sex and getting married a little too well,” She narrowed her eyes at him. “What are you not sayin’?” He blushed, rubbing circles into her hip with his thumb. “Tyler I-don’t-know-your-middle-name-Owens, tell me.”
“Michael,” He muttered. Meg tilted his head up with two fingers under his chin. “That’s my middle name.”
“And mine’s Marie, now spill it.”
“There may or may not be a similar bet going with the group,” Of course there was.
“Bet, as in singular?” He nodded, “Which one do they have goin’?” Tyler’s blush deepened.
“Well, darlin’,” Tyler sighed, smiling sweetly. “Boone’s been planning our wedding since you tried to pool the wool over my eyes when we first met.” He cupped her face and she mirrored him, her hand resting on his cheek. “So they’re betting on the other part.” There were two ways Meg could go with this conversation, serious or teasing, and she’d be damned if she did anything serious while wearing Kate’s Hello Kitty sleep pants from high school.
“Well,” Meg stroked Tyler’s stubbled cheek. “Tell Boone I want an October weddin’ and he’s welcome at it whether you’re there or not.” Tyler shook with laughter, tugging her so she was head first in his chest like they had slept the night before.
“Oh, I’m gonna be there, darlin’,” He kissed the top of her head. “Crying while your daddy walks you down the aisle to me.” So much for avoiding serious conversation. Meg expected to feel a sense of fear or at least anxiety thinking about marrying Tyler but instead, she found herself smiling. His cologne was lingering on his sleep shirt and he was oh so warm wrapped around her. She could see him standing at the altar all dressed up in a suit and tie, Boone behind him as best man, and Preacher beside him ready to officiate like he had promised to when she was little.
“Boone share any of these wedding plans with you?” Meg slipped her leg between his, bringing herself just a little bit closer to him. “Tell me everything.” Tyler began stroking her back.
“He wants to do it outside, said he thinks you’d like to be where you can see the sky.” Boone knew her well, that’s exactly how she wanted to get married, not inside of some stuffy church. “Dani’s picking out dresses she and Lily won’t mind wearing as your bridesmaids, they’ve got one for Kate too.”
“Sounds like they’ve got the whole thing planned out. Lily in charge of the rings?”
“Yes, ma’am. They even roped Ben into picking out table settings and invitations, he complains but is secretly over the moon.” Tyler’s hand moved to her hair, massaging her neck. Meg groaned, not realizing how much tension had been lingering there until that exact moment.
“That feels good, Ty.” She felt herself getting sleepier, relaxing more into Tyler’s hold with each passing moment. “Keep tellin’ me about our wedding.”
“Yes, ma’am,” He kissed her hair again. “The biggest argument is what kind of flowers to get. Boone’s a romantic so he wants roses.” That made her giggle,
“Why ain’t I surprised?”
“Shh, baby,” Tyler teased, kissing her hair again. “You’re supposed to be falling asleep.”
“Don’t tell me what to do, Arkansas,” Meg sassed half-heartedly. Tyler’s ministrations paused for a moment before he gently pulled her head back by her hair. He was fixing her with one of those listen-to-me looks she’d seen on her mama’s face a thousand times before, his eyes the color of greenage before a big storm. Staring into them, she wondered if her favorite color had ever truly been yellow, or if it had been green all along and she just hadn’t found the right shade until now.
“Darlin’,” His fingers tightened their grip just a little, giving Meg a jolt of pain that only brought pleasure. “Will you please hush that pretty little mouth of yours and let me talk?” She wanted to sass him again, see what he would do but when she opened her mouth nothing but a yawn came out. He must’ve taken that as a yes, bringing her face back into his chest. He was lucky he was cute enough to get away with manhandling her like that. “Dani’s vote is on sunflowers but Ben and Lily think that lilies would be better.” Meg made an inquisitive noise, wanting to know what Tyler thought. “I’ve got a soft spot for wildflowers, especially daisies. My mama used to keep a vase of them on the counter next to the window.” Meg snaked a hand under the back of his shirt, humming in approval. “I’ll take your freezing hands under my shirt as a yes to the wildflowers.”
Tyler kept talking about color schemes and Dexter’s thoughts on what to cater for dinner. How Ben had insisted they have live music instead of a DJ and the way Boone wanted to use bandanas as pocket squares, all while Meg drifted off to sleep.
She woke to her phone ringing, AC/DC’s Highway to Hell breaking the silence of the night. Tyler’s arms were firm around her waist making it hard for her to retrieve the device from the bedside table.
“Hey, Hot Stuff,” She groaned. Tyler didn’t budge from his position curled around her. The man, she was learning, could sleep like the dead. But she would bet he’d be wide awake if she even thought of the word tornado.
“Hey, Honey Buns. How’s the storm hunting?” Nick must’ve been grabbing beignets, she could hear the familiar sounds of Cafe du Monde in the background in the late hours of the night.
“It’s good,” She decided to keep the life and death details to herself for now, not in the right mindset for a lecture. “How’s my baby, you treatin’ her right?”
“She’s purrin’ like a cougar in a college bar.” Meg chuckled, “Hadn’t heard from ya so I thought I’d check in. Cecilia misses you something awful.” Cecilia was Nick’s wife of seven years, an ER nurse at University Hospital. She and Meg would sometimes get lunch together when their days off aligned but Meg knew who was really missing her.
“Yeah, I miss you too,” Nick laughed, commenting on her ego. “The storms out here have been crazy.” Just like she predicted, Tyler stirred.
“Storm? Is that Boone?” Meg rolled her eyes, kissing him on the chin.
“It’s just Nick, go back to sleep, Sweetie Pie.” And then he was out like a light, she shook her head at him.
“Meg Marie Harding, you’ve got a man in your bed?” Nick jokingly scolded her like an older brother. “You ain’t supposed to be doin’ that outta wedlock.”
“Says the man who tried to set me up with that fire fighter who ended up having a wife.”
“Not my finest moment, I’ll admit,” He chuckled. “Well, Honey Buns, I’ll let you get back to sinnin’.”
“Meanin’ your order’s ready?” Nick hung up on her without answering and she laughed softly, choosing not to fight against Tyler’s hold, putting the phone under her pillow.
She’d be back in New Orleans soon enough, riding around in the rig with Nick, going wherever dispatch sent them. But for the first time, thinking about her life there didn’t feel right, her heart constricting the point of physical pain.
Meg traced Tyler’s jaw with her fingertips, then his nose, the arch of his brow, and his bottom lip, the pain getting worse with every second. Helping people was her job, one that she loved and felt called to, but the thought of leaving Tyler was breaking her heart.
“Tyler Michael Owens,” She whispered, watching for any signs that he was awake and seeing none. “I think I just might be fallin’ in love with you.” Meg pressed a feathersoft kiss to his lips, it lasted a second, maybe less, but she felt more in that split second than she had with any of the men Nick had set her up with in the past.
“Again, baby,” Tyler whispered, eyes blinking open. “Please.” He sounded so needy and desperate, matching her own desire for him. Meg didn’t hesitate to brush her lips against his. Tyler tilted his head into the kiss, kissing her soundly, leaving not an ounce of doubt in her mind that she loved him. It had been less than a week but Meg felt like she had known him her entire life. He made her feel safe, comfortable, and seen. The way he held her at night and couldn’t keep his hand off her leg during the day, the way he listened to her like there was no one else around, and most importantly, the way he treated her with kindness and respect. “Nick okay?” Tyler asked once they came up for air, voice raspy.
“He’s fine, just checkin’ on me.” Tyler hummed, giving her a peck on the lips once, twice, three times more.
“And how are you doing, baby?”
“Never better,” Meg kissed his chest, snuggling back into what was quickly becoming her favorite sleeping position.
