After getting the #nutrient regime locked in for aggressive growth I spent the last several days #Pruning #LateralMeristem growth, pinching off #flowers at the less ideal sites, and cutting under #growth sucker vines to push new growth to the ideal fruiting sites and #ApicalMeristem for axillary growth. Scratchy work, but rewarding. #CanopyManagement is awesome because it implies everything else is locked in, increases airflow(which in turn increases #transpiration and #nutrientTransport as well as reducing disease and pest conditions) and canopy control makes a big difference on #growing "wood" vs "fruit". Now it's just a few minutes of inspection and daily maintenance. I'm looking forward to the next phase in specific lifecycle #fertilizing, when I can hit the vines with PK and #FIM the main vines to push the growth to the #melons and #Pumpkins. Starting to express a bit of immobile nutrient deficiency with slight yellow on the edges of younger leaves. Makes sense, cow manure is not a complete fertilizer when it's not composted thoroughly with other bio-matter. These are brand new beds, so it is essentially growing in an inert media. There are lots of earthworms/biomatter, it's been innoculated with beneficial mycorrhiza and microbes, as well as logs to rot in the base. I think they will only get better with time... This is my garden. There are many like it, but this one is mine... 4 #ViolinPumpkins, 2 #Cantelope, 30 #peas, 9 #onions, 6 #lettuce 1.5m x 2m x 0.5m I'll harvest in reverse order from how I listed it, and at the end of the season (😭) it will just be the pumpkins, hopefully covering the entire arbor. ( The other side is #cruciferous #greens) I'm so happy with my garden this year that part of me is waiting for a catastrophic incident... That just might be 2020 talking to me.
