You know what, this might be what he did!!!

For real, he was so out of control today (touching Link's lips for no reason, trying to sell "going to hell together" to Link, literally saying he found an opportunity to mount Link????!??!?! cos all straight friends just wait for the opportunity to mount their bestie, then he was like how cool professor Link is, how stylish, his clothes and his hair is great, he is so cool and handsome that student!Rhett actually comes to class to just look at him?!!!!?!).

And then not knowing what Madagascar vanilla was? Was he tripping today or what. And okay let's just say he didn't know it because he doesn't like vanilla or whatever.

His whole behaviour was still very off, even by know-it-all Rhett standards. Rhett is a know-it-all but when he doesn't know something and Link is so sure, he usually complies or even if he disagrees, especially because he is non-confrontational, he typically says to Link "Let's do it your way but just so you know, you're wrong" and then he rubs it to Link's face later. He doesn't get so inexplicably stubborn and dismissive of Link's input when he doesn't know a thing about the topic in question. Link was explaining to him and you could see a wall behind Rhett's eyes, like he was determined to not take Link's argument into account.

So yeah it was very suspicious and it was coming right after he said and done some extremely bold stuff so maybe it was a conscious choice to milk the shit out of this moment so that he would distract the audience from everything prior to that. So that now the viewers discuss how little Rhett values Link's input and nobody talks about how he called him a man to be stared upon and said about himself that he just waits for mounting opportunities.
