zhang yici ( born june 11th, 1997 ), better known by her stage name vivi, is an idol under nebula black as cinnamon’s maknae and main rapper. prior to the group’s debut, she trained for four years. her hometown is recorded as sichuan, china. loading latest news…
PERSONAL LIFE.
1. she’s pretty, always pretty in one way or another, but at one time that was all she was. all is good, all is fine. parents love her, friends flock around. it’s fine.
2. she moves again for her dad’s job. but it’s fine, because they still love her. differently this time, but maybe not less. she doesn’t think much of it, tries to not wonder if it matters.
3. she learns small phrases here and there. good things, always good things. it doesn’t make a difference, she just does it.
4. she’s a star in the making, and her dance teacher said this as if he is professing something of such utmost importance that it cannot be contained in his body alone. she’s capable of more, apparently.
5. she likes material things, pretty and shiny things, but can you blame her for wanting something that sticks? her parents aren’t around, and the staff members are somewhat unreliable, so she barely bats an eyelash at people.
6. boys come and go, but the media is a constant. she focuses her attentions on one person, and it’s a force to be reckoned with when she’s determined.
7. her parents almost can’t believe her, but they have better things to do, so they cater to her strange whims. she’s moving to korea for a boy, and one who doesn’t even know her. but it’s fine, she’s always been like that, so they let her.
8. the language is hard, and she doesn’t know anyone. but she get in, and again, she’s determined. she doesn’t let things stand in her way — she’s just never been the type. so she learns, and she becomes good at it. she’s good at most things. and if she’s going to choose a location to chase her dreams, this seems like a good place to start.
PERFORMANCES.
rapping is what she’s best at, and it’s what she has been training for ever since her first day under the nebula training contract when her trainers realized that she has a distinct voice well suited for a rap that’s supposed to catch a person’s attentions. dancing also comes naturally, as she’s trained in chinese classical dancing since she was a child. it’s not a perfect translation to the choreography that she gets as a member of cinnamon, but it’s at least a foundation.
her singing is still mediocre, and the producers don’t give her much in the way of vocal lines anymore, letting her focus on her rapping instead. another obstacle is the language barrier which, though minimizing, prevents her from being an asset on korean variety shows and dramas, which means that many of those kinds of activities have to be done in china.
2017 INTERVIEW.
she’s always been after the attention that her parents never gave her, so although it seems that yici has some parent issues, she doesn’t let that dictate her life. yici came under strange pretenses (who comes to korea for an actor?) but that doesn’t mean she’s any less determined. she wants to be known for her own right, and not just because of her parents, and she’s willing to do anything it takes to achieve that. ambition has always been an asset of her’s, and she’s doing whatever possible. she’s slowly learning that fame has pitfalls, and her parents can’t save her from everything, but she’s that much closer to independence, and that’s all she wants right now.

Partners in Dance
✏ @glriolani
It had been exactly 47 minutes since the choreographer had left them to practice on their own after dismissing them for the day. Receiving the new choreography after recording the song just two days earlier seemed a bit much for the group.
For Yeohyun of course, it was different. Dance was what she loved to do and it was something she could do for hours as long as she had her bottle of water filled. And that was exactly what she was planning on doing.
She had to get the choreography down to a T so she could guide her group if needed during their practice the next day. It was past 10 at night already. The rest had left the practice room in favour of other places that Yeohyun wasn’t aware of.
After all, her senses were trained on the bass coming out of the speakers and running through her body. All her senses were trained on the figure on the mirror, critical of the way it moved, comparing it to the choreography given to them to notice anything else.

taken from nebulaent.com: loading the profile of i.o…
iolani petch ( born december 28th, 1997 ), better known by her stage name i.o, is an idol under nebula black as cinnamon’s lead rapper and lead dancer. prior to the group’s debut, she trained for two and a half years. her hometown is recorded as pocheon, south korea. loading latest news…
PERSONAL LIFE.
She was a story teller, they said. Iolani was told her whole life that one day she would be able to share her stories with the world. The girl lived in the clouds when others repeatedly warned her to stay firmly rooted on the ground. That was until things shifted drastically back on the ground.
After a rough divorce and an even harder time in school, Iolani found herself free-falling back to the ground at a deadly pace. Things that once comforted her or seemed so familiar were now too foreign. The poems she once clung to sounded so childlike, so strange. For a year Iolani struggled to get herself a new passion. But no matter how hard she tried, it appeared writing was the only thing she could do. And that’s when her brother gifted her the album that would change her life forever. Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) was the album that sparked something in her, a connection to something that made sense in all the emotional haze and confusion. It wasn’t long after that she found her brother’s mixtapes.
At the age of 14, Iolani began her journey through hiphop. She wanted nothing more than to show everyone around her that she still had a story to tell and that it was still worth telling. It may not have been as naive and fantastical as the stories she told when she was 4 or 5, but they were stories none the less. Riddles to her past, therapy for her present and hope for her future. It didn’t take long before Iolani’s tracks dropped on Soundcloud to catch steam. The underground rap scene in Seoul showed her many things and taught her how to keep her head down and her heart on the music.
Her grind earned her a bit of a reputation for being a verbal assassin, but it also caught Nebula’s attention, something that surprised her more than it excited her at first. She heard about idol life and the all of the uncertain factors that played in whether one debuted or not. And those pristine-looking women who performed on Show Champion or M Countdown? None of them were her.
But maybe, just maybe if they were looking at her, they were looking for someone different. And maybe, just maybe, she could represent a different brand of girl in a scene that appeared to be so big and unattainable to a girl like herself.
PERFORMANCES.
Iolani made her name in the underground rap scene in Seoul. It took a few losses in the beginning to learn the approach that worked best for her. When she realized the overall politeness of most of the rap battles she participated in thus far, she decided she needed to sharpen her tongue and wit.
A year later, Iolani or I.O as she was called in the underground rap scene, rose to good notoriety for her disses in cyphers and rap battles. She’s good at thinking on her feet and thrives under pressure. Before she found rap, she was trained in ballet and for a time took up training at an elite level.
Iolani’s weaknesses lie in how honest she can be at times. If something isn’t right or if she is unsatisfied/unhappy with a situation, she doesn’t hesitate to say something about it. She’s a perfectionist which keeps her overcritical eye from seeing just how good something is. She also struggles creatively if she feels restrained or a lack of control over something.
2017 INTERVIEW.
Fame is such an interesting idea to Iolani because she never intended to go into rap to become famous. She did it to express herself. It was merely an avenue to flesh out issues that she couldn’t easily talk about with family or friends. But fame is seen as a platform for Iolani. It’s a platform for self-expression that can capture, enthrall and resonate with people from all walks of life.
Idol life has been difficult though. When she went to audition for Nebula, she wasn’t expecting the backlash she got in the underground rap scene. What seemed like a safe haven for her to express herself became a viper’s nest for judgmental comments and people bullying her to leave. That was the first hardship she had to learn to overcome. In fact, during her first month as a trainee, she felt so isolated from people she called friends and had so few people to rely on that she went through a really rough patch of depression.
She also wasn’t expecting how back breaking the work load would be. While Iolani sees the benefits of why she struggled through the process to be where she is right now, she understands this was hardly the easy way to have her stories heard by a larger audience. The work load alone takes a toll on her mentally and creatively, but at the same time she loves it. Blood, sweat, agony should all be a part of the process to create art that truly means something.

taken from nebulaent.com: loading the profile of chaegyeong…
son chaegyeong ( born january 17th, 1993 ), better known by her stage name chaegyeong, is an idol under nebula black as cinnamon’s leader and vocalist. prior to the group’s debut, she trained for three years. her hometown is recorded as pohang, south korea. loading latest news…
PERSONAL LIFE.
Chae grew up next to the sea with fireworks in her eyes.
Pohang is a seaport town, home to POZCO- one of the world’s largest steel companies. With both of her parents in high corporate positions, money was never an issue; however while their bank was full, their house was empty.
Chae rarely saw her parents growing up.
She grew up with books for company, keeping the loneliness at bay by staying preoccupied, taking various private lessons from piano to foreign languages. Her parents gladly supplied her with tutors and lessons, spoiling her to make up for their absence.
The only time she really got to see her parents was during large festivals, where the whole city would be out and about to celebrate. The Firework Festival was bright and gorgeous at night, lighting up the sky with bursts of color. But her favorite was the annual fall Gwamegi Festival, where artists from all over flooded the small port town to show off their talents to the people.
Perched up on her father’s shoulders, little Chae had a perfect view of the stage, her tiny hands clapping off beat as people sang their hearts out- soft ballads, intense rock, catchy pop tunes that stuck in her head days after.
12 years later, she was on the stage herself, voice a little shaky. Despite a few fumbles, her bright smile and cheerful attitude had her gaining the audiences approval, and much to her surprise- the interest of the Nebula scouts.
She was 18 when they first approached her, and she left the seaside to become a trainee… regardless of her parent’s disapproval.  Chae was always expected to join the company, or at least graduate from the nearby university with a degree in business or science. Even she thought she would follow that path, spending countless nights studying to qualify for POZTECH, the high ranking physical science university connected to POZCO. In the end, she rejected the hard earned offer in favor of pursuing her dreams.
As a trainee, her parents became even more distant, hardly answering their phones and never texting her. However, they still supplied her with the necessary funds to live comfortably, unable to cut off the soft spot in their hearts for their only daughter. She would often spend her money treating her friends, and she still buys food for her group members.
As years passed by, Chae began to get anxious, worrying that she would never debut.
Every trainee contract renewal, Chae would be tempted with offers from modeling agencies clamoring for her visuals, places promising runway jobs and fashion shoots. Chae pushed it all away, clinging onto the thrill of that festival day, hoping to stand on the stage again. With the cheers of the crowd roaring in her ears, she persevered until Cinnamon’s debut in 2014.
Since debut, her parents have warmed up to her career choice, and now visits home whenever she can. Chae keeps up an instagram, and is often looking Cinnamon up on the internet, monitoring the public responses. Reading countless criticisms on her vocals, she is often working herself to the bone… To this day she focuses on her vocal classes, constantly working towards improvement, and never forgets to thank her fans and family for the support.
PERFORMANCES.
Strengths: Confidence, Charisma, Visuals.
Chae is a born leader. Growing up in an influential family, she is used to maintaining a professional image. Her confidence and articulate way of speech has her filling in the role as Cinnamon’s leader easily, naturally breezing through interviews and radio appearances. Her previous classes have allowed Chae to converse with the other Cinnamon members in their native language and connect with more fans internationally. She is still working on becoming truly fluent. Mindful of her words and actions, she keeps a level-head, and has swayed many fans with her sweet and thoughtful image. Utilizing her doll like visuals, Chae naturally draws people’s attention as she maintains a perfect image on stage.
Weakness: Vocals. Average Dancing. Overworking.
Her main weakness lies in her vocals. Despite frequent vocal classes, Chae often struggles to support her voice, resulting in a wobbly tone, her notes often hitting flat. Her runs are sloppy, and her vocal range is average. Despite this, she does her best filling the song with emotion, and has been improving with more breathing exercises. Her dancing is average, but she learns quickly and can always keep up with the group. Chae doesn’t really know her limits, and will often work herself to the the point where she might pass out, focusing too much on her faults.
2017 INTERVIEW.
“I never thought I was going to be an idol. The idea was planted in my head one summer, a bright lovely chance offered to me that bloomed into a dream, quick as a firework. I had just finished high school, and was off on my way to corporate success. The performance I had planned for the annual festival in town was to be my first and last. It was my own little graduation ceremony…
But it grew into something much, much more, and I don’t regret anything. “
Chae constantly struggles with the image that she’s just a visual. Her confidence stems from her belief in the group and the effort they put in…not necessarily confidence about her talent. Being a dependent leader often clashes with her own insecurities, and Chae keeps her worries locked tight from the others. When she compares herself to the other members and seniors, she always finds something lacking… and those thoughts are only muffled by keeping busy and practicing more.
While the strict regulations of an idol were hard to adjust to, it was harder for Chae to deal with the lack of privacy and alone time. Going from being an only child to living in a dorm with 9 other girls was overbearing, and it took time for her to adjust. With her rather lonely childhood, Chae does appreciate the friends she has made as an idol. As more and more people show up to their stages and swarm the airport at their arrival, Chae has realized that Cinnamon has become fairly successful, and she is satisfied with where they are now.
A small part of her worries about climbing any higher, weary of the zealous fans and criticisms that come with more fame.

taken from nebulaent.com: loading the profile of goeun…
yeo goeun ( born april 30th, 1996 ), better known by her stage name goeun, is an idol under nebula black as cinnamon’s vocalist and rapper. prior to the group’s debut, she trained for five years. her hometown is recorded as sokcho, south korea. loading latest news…
( trigger warning. injury mentions. )
PERSONAL LIFE.
yeo goeun was going places. everyone knew that. in her little neighbourhood in sokcho, everywhere she went, people complimented her, complimented her mother, and applauded her every accomplishment.
it hadn’t been easy for her mom - a young, up-and-coming competitive alpine skiier, who hired a new coach for the olympic trials and ended up falling in love with him. nine months later, he had abandoned her, and she was in a hospital gettig an emergency c-section, all of nineteen years old.
as a result - or maybe, more accurately, as a consequence - goeun was raised as revenge. she was put into skiing at an early age, and she had a gift, taking after her mother. she also took after her mother in looks, inheriting her large eyes and delicate features, making her look like an innocent non-threat and proving everyone wrong on the hill. her sleek, slender limbs were naturally predisposed to excelling in the sport.
until she hit fourteen, though, and goeun suffered an injury. she skid against an icy patch during training for the junior international championships, and tore her leg in such a way that she couldn’t compete again without risking her ability to walk. for a long time, goeun felt she had no reason to go on, no reason to live.
when she was thirteen, goeun was handed a business card while in seoul for a school daytrip. the man in the suit made eye contact as he nodded and said, “look me up, i’m not a fraud.” sure enough, when she googled the name, she came across articles citing him as the genius behind several members of jewel box, a scout who had a sharp eye for pretty faces who learned quickly and well. goeun wasn’t sure what the future in that industry may hole, but she had no future in athletics anymore, and she wasn’t doing well enough in school not to take up the offer. she wrote him an email that night, not consulting her mother, and packing up her bags to go to seoul and audition.
there was nothing to lose, nowhere to go - no shame, no pride. goeun had nothing ahead of her except possibilities she had never before considered.
PERFOMANCES.
yeo goeun has a strong work ethic and is very capable of working on her own. as an athlete, she knows how to train herself to the brink of exhaustion; as an athlete whose gift was ripped away from her, she also knows how to give herself a break.
yeo goeun is not a team player. skiing is not a team sport; she is an only child. goeun did not get to learn how to share or speak politely at an early age - this helps her ambition, but not always her relationship with other nebula employees or her fellow members.
despite 2, yeo goeun does feel a kindred loyalty to her group and those who she spent her five years training with. her difficult past and complicated feelings about her present do not mean she is not warm, caring, and devoted to the cinnamon girls.
yeo goeun does not let her conflicting emotions regarding her place in the idol world affect her work. she is focused, she is fully present, she will deliver the best she possibly can.
yeo goeun learns quickly and consistently.
yeo goeun hates mistakes and hates having to repeat herself.
yeo goeun is was shy in front of cameras; she has grown confident.
yeo goeun is good at fanservice.
yeo goeun’s mother cannot be discussed in front of the public.
yeo goeun may still have gifts that have been untapped.
2017 INTERVIEW.
it has been a while now since goeun debuted, but she is still uncertain about the path she’d chosen. during her long half decade of training, she often asked herself why she went on - but she knew why. training was natural to her, it was what she had always done as an athlete. with a specific goal in mind, she could focus, hone in on what was ahead. no matter how long she was a trainee, she would keep improving.
she knew nebula had picked her because of her beauty. it wasn’t conceited to think so - it was a fact, and it was something that echoed in all of the netizen comments she read. goeun didn’t have any natural talent - everything she could do, she’d earned through gruelling work, but no matter how determined she was she’d never be able to make that final push, the push that only natural gifts could give you.
fame meant that goeun was constantly reminded of her failure. of her injury that day in practise, of her inadequacies as an idol. when she read netizen comments. when her fans lined up at fansigns just to tell her how much they’d loved her rap in the latest comeback, how talented she was, and through it all goeun could sense that they were lying.
idol fame meant that goeun was a fraud. deep down, she knows she should be famous for something else - but it’s too late now, and there’s no way to go back.

taken from nebulaent.com: loading the profile of nyx…
choi yeohyun ( born october 6th, 1995 ), better known by her stage name nyx, is an idol under nebula black as cinnamon’s main dancer and rapper. prior to the group’s debut, she trained for three years. her hometown is recorded as daegu, south korea. loading latest news…
PERSONAL LIFE.
A breakdancer by background, Yeohyun has been through 3 years of training after she was scouted in one of her underground dance battles back in Busan. At that time she was in her last year of high school at an arts school, aiming to join Busan Arts. She always wanted recognition for her dancing and when it was presented to her, she wasted no time to accept.
Her parents have always been very supportive. Being from Daegu originally, her parents let her follow her dreams and come live in Busan all by herself, trusting her to take care of herself even at that tender age. Yeohyun showed them too that she could be trusted. It was only a matter of time, her parents knew, till she would be scouted but they were surprised at her street casting.
She had always kept to herself, surrounding herself with no more than 2 friends at a time, moving away when things got heated, participating in discussions only when asked. She is an introvert. Her attention was better aimed at other things, she had decided at an early age, choosing to dance to channel her energy, reading books on end to widen her horizons. The characters she often came across in books intrgiued her.
That ultimately planted the interest in acting in her. Being someone she was not was always a challenge she accepted with a smile. Immersing herself in scripts, she lived days as her character, going to the lengths of asking the people around her to call her as such, dressing up as her character, speaking and acting just like her. The dramas aired on the television were repeated in the warm niche of her room, her arms spread wide in a flourish as she repeated the dialogue.
She was passionate about many things and all of them were art. She simply wasn’t a people person and that often labelled her as cold but it was something she was okay with. After all, as long as she performed well, that’s all that mattered; the results.
Her time as a trainee wasn’t much different. Practising rigorously, barely interacting more than necessary, she stayed out of unnecessary trouble. She sought help when she was lost, extended a helping hand when asked for it and over all tried to keep a good image. But it was tough when everything was a competition. A frown etched onto her face, she stayed in the practice rooms till she was bathed in sweat three times over. It alienated her but the people around her scared her, made her curl in on herself.
Once she was told to start training with rapping, she divided her time so she could focus on rapping more than dancing, the former being new to her and therefore requiring more attention. It wasn’t a surprise to her when she got back to dorms with all the lights turned off. During her initial days she slept like that after taking a quick shower, walking blindly to her bed and lying down on it, letting the fatigue take over her body. But as time went on, her eating habits got worse and she was forced to eat outside at one of the many streetside food stalls every night. It gave her energy to go on and minimalised chances of confrontation.
Even now, after debut, she was in just a single subunit. She had warmed up to her members, she could spend hours on end with them, say a sentence of two and lean back to watch them again. She wordlessly helped them. Cooking food for the ones who would stay back at the company longer, a pat on the shoulder to cheer on one of her teammates, folding washed laundry and setting it on the beds of the owner. She tried.
She wasn’t one of the most popular members to the fans, neither was she thristy for more. She had worked hard for CNM-X with everything they had been given. It didn’t deter her that the reception wasn’t very great since she had somewhere else to concentrate on: her acting. She had already landed a cameo role which she felt honoured for, learning as much as she could from the seniors on the set to do better with her acting. She continued to work hard with her acting all the while cheering on her other members as they continued promoting as different subunits.
And she was satisfied with that. She was being given the opportunity to do what she loved. Though she would have liked to stand on the same stage as some of her members again, showcasing her dancing and rapping again, she was content with her individual promotions too as an actor. She hoped for more and aimed for higher.
PERFORMANCES.
Strengths: Working hard, heavily determined
Weaknesses: Working with others, compromising, discussions
As Yeohyun continues to work hard, she is slowly learning how to behave with her peers, seniors, juniors and members of the staff. Her acting is getting better and under the covers, she also is writing lyrics to be used in the next album when she is a part of the subunit that is promoted by Nebula Black. She has learnt how to ‘deal’ with her members, what rubs them the wrong way, what helps calm them down. She silently continues to take notes about her colleagues to make her work more peaceful and smooth. She continues to thrive for as little confrontation as possible but that also leads to her agreeing with others whether or not she likes the idea or feels like she can go through with it which puts her in situations she would rather not be in.
2017 INTERVIEW.
Yeohyun is lucky to get the chance, she’s aware which is why she tries to please her company no matter what. She puts her own desires as an artist back so that she can please the company and continue to be a member of Cinnamon, to be able to continue as Nyx which is a name that was given by Nebula after all. Her parents do get mad at her often but on hearing the tired tone of their daughter’s voice on the phone stops them from berating her further. They know who she is and they wish for her to be slightly bolder and Yeohyun thinks she could be bolder as more time passes and she gathers more fans. Her private matters barely consist of anyone other than immediate family and she prefers it that way. It reduced her interactions to a bare minimum and the friends she made out of Cinnamon were aware of the type of person she was due to seeing her at work and accommodated her accordingly which she is thankful for.

taken from nebulaent.com: loading the profile of haylee…
lee heeyoung ( born march 4th, 1997 ), better known by her stage name haylee, is an idol under nebula black as cinnamon’s main vocalist. prior to the group’s debut, she trained for three and a half years. her hometown is recorded as seoul, south korea. loading latest news…
PERSONAL LIFE.
Growing up, Heeyoung had always found the glittery life of an idol alluring. Ever since she laid her eyes on their grand stages and beautiful dances, she found herself longing to perform. However, as the eldest of three, Heeyoung was expected to lead by example; she was to become a doctor and stay far from the idol life. It was a principle she abided by for the first six years of her life, until she finally joined her church’s children’s choir, where her vocals were immensely praised. Fueled by the compliments and desire to become an idol, she begged her parents to allow her a vocal coach. Initially, her parents refused, but with her choir director on her side, they eventually relented—if only to merely benefit her choir activities.
As the years went by, her talent gained her a miniscule glimpse at fame; her chorister provided her more solos, and the crowd’s applause was unending. By her tenth year, she had grown into a beautiful singer with much potential and a thirsty desire to once again pursue the dream she had lost. However, she knew her parents were stubborn. A career as an idol was still out of the question.
Her childhood best friend, on the other hand, could easily walk down the path to stardom. Unlike Heeyoung’s parents, her friend’s dream was encouraged within her family—something Heeyoung had long envied her friend for. However, she was cunning, even at a young age; she knew debuting together was her friend’s dream, and so, with a little convincing and a lot of lies, she managed to secretly apply and audition for a nearby company under her friend’s mother’s supervision. The two walked hand in hand to their audition; only Heeyoung came out with a callback slip, her friend left to cry over a shattered dream. Despite her friend’s failure (and Heeyoung’s promise to only pursue the dream further if they both passed the first round), she secretly went for the callback, to which her friend responded with curses and spite upon discovery. Their friendship thus came to an end—but she still passed the second round of auditions, and then the third, before she finally received a trainee contract.
She could not, however, become a trainee without her parents’ approval. After the months of carefully crafted lies, she finally told them the truth and revealed to them the contract she had worked so hard for. Her father was enraged by her confession; her mother disappointed at her actions. She was banned from leaving the house for weeks, during which she begged and cried to her parents, asking them to sign the dotted line. Her father was even more infuriated by her constant pleas, calling her an unnecessary evil for her siblings, and accused her of selfishness and greed. Her dream was pushed further into a corner.
Surprisingly, though, it was her younger brother who broke through her parents’ walls. Heeyoung didn’t know how he convinced them, but almost a month after the contract had been given to her, she opened her bedroom door to find her mother holding the papers, her signature scribbled at the bottom. Overjoyed, she thanked her mother profusely; her father, on the other hand, still did not approve. He allowed her to pursue her dream, though, on the basis that he was sure she’d soon quit.
And she almost did—three years into her rigorous training, the company she had auditioned for filed for bankruptcy, and Heeyoung was left to fend for herself. She spent the first six months after the company officially shut down training in her church’s choir room before she finally came across an opportunity to audition for Nebula Entertainment. With previous training already under her belt, she passed through the three audition rounds with flying colours, and once again resumed the trainee life.
After an additional three and a half years of training, Heeyoung finally took the stage.
PERFORMANCES.
As the main vocalist of Cinnamon, Heeyoung’s vocals are strong; her seven years of training (not including the vocal lessons she had growing up) granted her that. Her vocal range is the widest in the group, and her technique the most defined. However, as she was initially set to debut as a soloist under her old label, her dancing is mediocre and sloppy. Her numerous mistakes on stage brings her buckets of criticisms; fans, on the other hand, find her faults incredibly endearing, a charm she embraces as part of her image, especially on stage—she’s often seen adding cute gestures to the choreography to make up for her mistakes. She’s evolved as a dancer throughout her idol career, though her skills are still considered subpar.
2017 INTERVIEW.
“Being an idol is everything I’ve ever dreamed of. Sometimes I think it’s all a dream and that I’d wake up in my bedroom at home, living a normal life. I still can’t believe I can perform on stage and hear the fans cheer us on. It’s exhilarating and wonderful, but also exhausting, both physically and mentally. It’s no secret that I get an immense amount of criticism for my dance techniques, and sometimes, the harsh comments really take a toll on me, especially if I’ve had a long day. On those days, I’d call my younger brother late at night and cry to him, but he always tells me I’m doing great and he’ll always cheer me on. [Laughs] It should be other way round, right? But, ah, he’s the one giving me strength. I hope I give him—and my younger sister!—strength whenever they see me on stage.
“Being an idol is a dream, but it’s also hard. Thankfully, I have my members and fans who continue to support me every step of the way. Hopefully I’ll be able to grow more as an artist and show you an even better side of me.”
