Philodendron gloriosum, one of my faves. It’s getting a special crawler pot and a spa day once winter is done. I’m not really an aroid person (they don’t tend to like me longterm) but this one’s a keeper.

it does make me want to give up on velvet leafed plants that aren't Contained like my anthuriums even tho i love them because like i notice other plants can take a beating if they get mite damage but visually velvet leaves just look SO ugly if you blink and miss the beginning of an infestation lmao

How Rooting Hormones Accelerate Growth During Propagation
If you’ve ever tried propagating your favourite plant, you know how frustrating it can be to watch cuttings fail, especially when they’re expensive or rare plants. What if there was a way to speed up the process, giving your plants the best possible start? Que rooting hormones. They’re nature’s little miracle workers that can boost roots, speed up growth, and increase the chances of success during propagation.
Tumblr media
What Are Rooting Hormones & How Do They Work?
Rooting hormones are plant growth substances that encourage the formation of roots from plant cuttings. These hormones, often synthetic versions of auxins, promote cell division and elongation at the cutting's base, stimulating root growth. But there’s more to it than simply dipping a cutting in powder and hoping for the best. To truly understand how these hormones work, we need to dive into the biochemical processes that make them so wonderful.
“We believe that you need to understand the science of how something works to truly appreciate it, and rooting hormones are no exception. Knowledge is power!”
Tumblr media
The Biology Behind Rooting: What Happens on a Cellular Level?
When rooting hormones are applied to a plant cutting, they essentially signal the cells at the base of the cutting to undergo division. These hormones create a cascade of biochemical reactions that stimulate the formation of root primordia—the first signs of root growth. But not all hormones are the same. Different formulations of rooting hormones can trigger unique responses, and understanding how these variations influence the cutting’s growth is a game changer. You can purchase both synthetic and natural hormones, and one lasts much longer than the other, so it matters which one you choose.
Tumblr media
Why Rooting Hormones are Not Just for Beginners
While many new gardeners swear by rooting hormones, seasoned horticulturists also take advantage of these growth boosters for more advanced techniques. From cutting-edge propagation methods to maximizing yields in commercial agriculture, understanding the role of hormones in root development is vital for both amateurs and experts alike. When you see the difference in the root balls on treated plants, you’ll never let yourself run out of rooting hormone again. The difference is shocking.
Want to know which plants benefit most from hormones and how you can fine-tune your propagation strategy? The answer lies in a little more science—and the right approach.
Tumblr media
Are There Risks to Using Rooting Hormones?
Before you go overboard with rooting hormones, it's important to understand that they’re not a one-size-fits-all solution. Too much of the wrong hormone can lead to stunted growth, weak root systems, or even plant damage. There’s a delicate balance to strike. So, what’s the right amount?

Ready to Unlock the Full Potential of Your Propagation?
Whether you're a novice gardener or a seasoned pro, rooting hormones offer a world of potential for faster, more reliable growth. If you want to explore the full science of how these hormones work, including the specific types, concentrations, and best practices to achieve optimal results, stay tuned.
Join us for a comprehensive deep dive into the world of rooting hormones, the science behind their effectiveness, scientific research and how to utilize it at home, and how to use rooting hormones for propagation. Hummelchen||Sebastian Vettel x Autistic!Fem!reader
Summary — Sebastian knows his wife loves plants so he surprises her with one she’s always been wanting.
Word count-880
A/n- inspired by my mom’s knowledge and love for plants…seriously you should see her plants!
A/n — I know it says fem!reader but there’s no actual female pronouns so anyone can read it and there’s no description of the reader!
Hummelchen= bumblebee 🐝
The sound of keys jingling in the lock made you glance up from where you were tending to your plants, gently misting the velvety leaves of your newest Philodendron gloriosum. The rhythmic motion of misting was soothing—something about watching the water droplets catch the light and roll down the leaves always calmed your mind. But at the sound of the door opening, your attention shifted immediately.
Sebastian stepped inside, his hair slightly tousled from the wind, a soft, knowing smile on his face. But something was… different. His hands were carefully cradling a package, wrapped loosely in a protective cloth, as if he were holding something fragile and precious.
You set your mister down, brows furrowing in curiosity. “What’s that?”
His smile grew as he took a few more steps inside, closing the door behind him. “A surprise for my Hummelchen.”
Your heart gave a little jump at the nickname, but your focus was entirely on the bundle in his hands. Sebastian knew you well—well enough to know that surprises usually made you anxious. But he also knew that plant-related surprises? Those were the exception.
Carefully, he set the package down on the dining table and started peeling back the cloth. The moment the delicate, lace-like leaves were revealed, your breath hitched. The intricate fenestrations, the impossibly thin stems—it couldn’t be.
Your hands flew to your mouth, muffling a gasp.
“Sebastian.” Your voice was barely above a whisper.
His eyes twinkled with amusement. “I take it you recognize it?”
Your hands dropped as you took a step closer, fingers itching to touch but hesitant, almost reverent. “Sebastian,” you repeated, eyes flicking to his in disbelief. “This—this is a Monstera obliqua.”
Sebastian tucked his hands into his pockets, rocking on his heels. “It is.”
Your heart was practically hammering. The Monstera obliqua was one of the rarest Monstera in existence. Most people only ever saw mislabeled adansonii, but this—this was real. And it was yours.
“You have any idea how rare this is?” Your voice was full of awe. “How difficult it is to find a real one?”
Sebastian just shrugged, his soft smile unwavering. “I might have done some research.”
“Some research?” You turned back to the plant, carefully tracing the outline of one of its impossibly thin leaves. “Sebastian, this is—I mean, where did you even find this?”
His chuckle was warm as he leaned against the chair. “Let’s just say I know a guy who knows a guy.”
You turned back to him, wide-eyed. “You tracked this down?”
He simply nodded, looking far too pleased with himself.
Your chest swelled with emotion, and your fingers twitched as you fought the urge to bounce on your toes. But it was no use—the excitement was bubbling up inside you, making you practically vibrate. Sebastian tilted his head slightly, watching you with the kind of quiet fondness that made your stomach flip.
“Hummelchen,” he murmured, amused, “are you buzzing?”
You slapped your hands over your face, heat rushing to your cheeks. “I can’t help it!”
Sebastian’s laughter was soft and full of love. He reached out and gently pulled your hands away from your face, his thumb brushing over the back of your hand. “I like when you buzz.”
The warmth of his words settled deep in your chest, and suddenly, you didn’t feel as embarrassed. You turned back to the plant, your excitement bubbling over. “It’s so tiny, but look at those fenestrations! And the stem nodes—oh, it’s going to need high humidity, probably above 80% at least, and definitely a moss pole, but I can make that work. Oh! And I need to check the root system—”
Sebastian pulled out a chair and sat down, resting his chin in his palm as he listened, utterly enchanted. He had no idea what half of the things you were saying meant, but that didn’t matter. What mattered was the way your entire face lit up, the way your hands gestured animatedly, the way your excitement filled every inch of the room like sunlight streaming through the windows.
His heart swelled.
He’d seen you struggle before—when the world became too loud, too overwhelming, when people didn’t understand your way of experiencing things. But here, in this moment, you were free. And knowing he had been the one to put that joy on your face made it even better.
You turned to him suddenly, your expression shifting from giddy excitement to something softer. “I can’t believe you did this,” you murmured. “This—this is the best surprise ever.”
Sebastian reached out, tucking a stray strand of hair behind your ear. “Anything to make my Hummelchen happy.”
Your throat tightened with emotion, and before you could second-guess yourself, you threw your arms around him. Sebastian let out a soft chuckle as he caught you, wrapping his arms around you in return. His lips pressed against the top of your head, lingering there as he inhaled deeply.
After a moment, he murmured against your hair, “So… tell me everything. How do we make sure it thrives?”
You pulled back, beaming, and grabbed his hand, tugging him toward the table. “Okay, so first, we need to talk about the humidity—”
Sebastian just smiled, letting your words wash over him, content in the warmth of your joy.
