as someone who only recently started going hard on fairgrounds for the achievements, I must ask - why do I never see anyone talking about the eye strain of glimmer and gloom? Is there just some issue with how my specific browser/monitor/etc resizes the tiles?

I have to zoom my browser out when I play on very hard because the distortion of the edges of the tiles fucks with my eyes

like surely it's not just me right?? Is there some fix for this? send help i want to get consistent muns but eyes ouchie

Yet another Glimmer and Gloom explanation because I see people struggling with the guides that are out there and thought I'd share what works for me.

What helped was thinking of the top and upper left diagonal as letters and the bottom and lower right diagonal as numbers. When clearing the board to just the final tiles, it's these nine numbered tiles that will still have some of the off-color.

The lettered tiles, then, are the ones you need to click to change the color of the numbered tiles. Each numbered tile as a series of lettered tiles that will change its color when performing the following:

click the appropriate lettered tiles to match the numbered tiles you want to change.

"clear" the tiles you changed at the top moving from left to right starting at the top and working downward. That is to say click the tile below and to the right of the off-tiles to "move" the off-color down the board.

Now all you have to do is have a quick reference available where you can check which lettered tiles you need to turn to the off-color to get rid of the specific numbered tile that's left at the bottom.

8 -BCD E

9 -AD F

I put spaces between where the tiles switch between diagonal, corner, and horizontal because that helps me think better.

If "tile 1" is an off-color, you can get rid of it by clicking D, F, and I and then clearing the board left-to-right, top-down.

You can, at this point, just click each of the combinations of lettered tiles that correspond to the numbered tiles you want to target. Entering up to all nine combinations should work as long as you don't accidentally skip or double-click a tile. Then once all Letters are clicked, clear from left-to-right, top-to-bottom.

But you can also note which tiles cancel each other out (if there are an even number of, say, "B"s in your solution then that means you can skip clicking the B tiles since clicking them an even number of times leaves them on the same color as not clicking them at all.)

Play enough and you'll start to memorize the combinations for the 9 number tiles (it helps that they're mirrors of each other with E/5 as the diving line). Keep playing and you'll start remembering which combos cancel out to save a click or few.

Flight Rising Glimmer & Gloom Special: Trapezoid Circle Visual Guide

(Quick info for any mutuals who still use tumblr: I'm trying to write a forum post for Flight Rising but the forum won't let you upload photos just post links so I'm writing the guide here first)

This guide is an explanation on how to solve what used to be my least favorite puzzle in the Glimmer & Gloom Special difficulty. It has a steep learning curve if you don't know where to start but can actually be explained fairly simply. There are 6 trapezoids in the puzzle but I'm going to explain using the one in the bottom left. This explanation isn't optimized for minimizing moves, so you may click tiles more than once.

I usually solve for glimmer and try to turn the whole puzzle yellow, and the goal here is to push all of the purple gloom tiles into the bottom of the trapezoid. Begin by attempting to do that.

If you get stuck with an odd number of gloom tiles anywhere in the purple stripe on the left, with all glimmer tiles in the 6 spaces above, resolve this by clicking each of the tiles highlighted in green on the right. This will invert the one gloom tile highlighted in the middle of the image. Then, continue to solve so that any remaining gloom tiles are isolated in the bottom 3 spaces that are highlighted in orange.

If all three tiles in the bottom corner are gloom, you can easily invert them by clicking the bottom tile and win. Below are the 3 other possibilities and their solutions. If your puzzle is represented in the left image, click the green and blue tiles on the right to solve. If your puzzle is represented in the middle image, click only the green tiles.

This method will work for all 6 rotated trapezoids in the puzzle. The trapezoids are also symmetrical, so you can solve using the flipped solutions as well.
