Please will you tell Tumblr the story of the spider head hat?

Oh yeah, this is how I got into TTRPGs.

While at uni, a friend correctly identified me as the kind of nerd who would enjoy TTRPGs so brought me along to a game at our uni's wargame and RPG society.

I think we were just before the 5e boom, so D&D itself wasn't big and the games running at the society were mostly Warhammer 40k and Call of Cthulhu.

So my first game was Call of Cthulhu.

The setting was I think frontier-era America; of the members of the party I remember, my friend who brought me into the game was an enormous Scottish dentist, someone I never saw outside of the game was a priest, I think native to the area we were as he was the only one with a clue what was going on around us, and me, a shipwright who wanted to make an ocean-going airship, I think? It's hard to remember that bit in detail because such trifles do not survive first encounter with Call of Cthulhu.

The first thing I remember was us camping for the night and our GM asking us to make Listen checks. I was the only one to pass and did so with huge success, everyone's happy, the new player's getting good rolls.

The GM looks worried for me.

She asks me to make a Sanity check. People stop smiling. I roll. It is bad.

The GM leads me out of the room to talk to me in private. We leave a hushed table.

"So in the night, before you fall asleep you hear a beautiful singing coming from the woods. Compelled by the music, you get out of your tent, and you follow the sound of the music into the trees."

"Ah. OK."

"Can I have your character sheet please?"

"OK..."

We re-enter the room. The GM has my character sheet in her hand. There are omens at play here. What there isn't at play here is me.

Come the morning everyone realises the new person's gone so set off tracking me into the forest.

Good news! They found me! I was even alive!

Bad news! The singing was giant purple spiders with humanlike intelligence and apparently a taste for insomniac shipwrights!

Our brick shithouse of a dentist leaps on the back of one of the spiders and begins wrestling it, hoping to be out of reach of its ability to attack him as long as he can stay on its back.

Player A: "I'm going to try shooting the spider"

Dentist: "Please don't, I'm on it, if you miss you'll hit me and I don't like being shot"

Player A: "That's OK, I didn't miss."

Dentist: "Well thank fuck for that."

Player B: "I'm going to shoot it too."

Dentist: "Are you fucking kidding me?"

Eventually, mercifully un-shot, the dentist managed to wrestle the head off the spider. He didn't actually kill it in doing so but it's fine, player C shot the head in his hands and it stopped snapping at him.

Silence fell. Calm reigned. The GM told me how much sanity I had lost. It was more than the rest of the party had ever lost combined. I learned not to listen so hard in future.

The dentist looked at the GM, a giant spider head still in his hands.

"Can I wear its head as a hat?"

The GM sighed. "Make me a San check"

Dice noises. "Fail!" He said that word with such glee.

"You lose one sanity, but you also turn the whole spider's exoskeleton into a suit of armour. It has the same stats as leather but also poisons anyone who touches it with their skin, and anyone you meet while wearing it has to make Sanity checks."

And that's why I love TTRPGs.

Leon Scott Kennedy was the captain of your squad of five. Each one of your teammates had a specific job to do; one was in charge of scooping out the area. Two had his hands on the strongest of weapons, and mostly explosions. The third and fourth were on Leon's side, guns drawn with attentive eyes - leaving you the fifth; in charge of keeping watch on any oncoming enemy.

"Do not engage. You alert us and we can handle it from there - you understand?"

And you did - but why not engage?

You six were sent to a rural city in Russia, Dargavs Village - balls deep in the winter season. The weather was freezing your tits off but you had to stay put for the sake of the mission. You had gotten a tip that a possible virus was in the making, early stages and whatnot, right underground.

Leon and the rest of your squad went inside the building, leaving you alone with nothing but a flaregun. Your captain could've provided something to keep you warm but no, all you had was a hot pack - that had long gone cold - and your lukewarm coffee in your hydro flask.

It happened all too fast. One second you were keeping an eye out when you noticed numerous snowmobiles stop by the little house, and the next was you alerting your captain frantically. He was alarmed by your tone and told you they were moving out - and judging by his tone, you knew he needed more time to find the research files.

You wished you were the one with heavy ammunition. Your flaregun was for emergencies and you only had three bullets. You picked up the giant duffle bag next to you; it was for your partner - the one with the firearms. When you zipped it open, your eyes widened in glee at the rocket launcher.

You barely voiced your plan to Leon who was instantly against it.

"You keep gathering information - I got this."

"No, Y/N! Do not engage!"

"This is our only shot, Leon! They're too many, they'd wipe you all out!"

"And you can take them out?! This is a direct order - you will get yourself killed!"

"Tell Johnny I'll pay him back for the RPG."

That was the last thing Leon heard before loud rumblings shook the ground. The speed at which he ran out left his squad panting when he reached the open air only to see a massive wave of snow toppling down the mountain. The houses were sturdy enough, made of bricks and cement so he was safe.

How in the fuck did you cause an avalanche?

In the distance, he saw snowmobiles speeding after a white specific mobile - it was you. He ordered your squad to stay inside one of the tallest buildings before sprinting down to hide behind a wall and take down the three masked men, stealing one of the snowmobiles and going after you.

It was one of the most horrible moments with it happening in less than five minutes but seemingly lasting an eternity. When the avalanche had settled down, having taken out most of those minions, Leon was growing concerned by the second, yelling out your name as his eyes scanned the aftermath. Several snowmobiles were poking through the heavy rug of white and something churned in his stomach.

Then there it was; a red bullet flying into the air.

Leon found you hiding behind one of the many trees in the forest, breathing heavily at the adrenaline. You were unscathed. At first, Leon was utterly relieved to see you were okay, the next though...

Well, it led you to this very moment in the confines of the warm hotel room.

To say you were overstimulated was an understatement. Your lips were swollen from your attempts to not be too loud at the merciless rutting of his hips. Your hands were gripping the sheets of your bed, mewling helplessly.

Leon was behind you, having you in a standing doggy position, as he fucked you harshly. You really should've known better than to piss your own captain off - your husband. One of his hands was wrapped around your throat and the other was pressed flat to your back to keep you arched, making you feel every inch of his cock.

"Every goddamn mission," Leon snarled, throttling himself deeper, "You always gotta go against orders, don't you?"

He was mad, you knew that. You fully believed it was valid but then again, you managed to save your team and get the information needed for the assignment. You gave yourself a pat on the back for this and Leon chose to teach you a lesson instead. You weren't entirely refusing it, though.

The DSO agent's rage shook, tipping over like a volcano. You were always so stubborn - and he loved that about you. It saved him and deemed the mission a success. He could've lost you that day, making him grow anxious at the mere thought of ever not having you by his side anymore.

You may not have known as you were in the shower, but he was seriously about to tear up. When you had gotten out and only joked about how you almost became like the Winter Soldier from the Marvel comics, that thread of restraint snapped.

"Damn it," Leon's cock resumed pulsing into your starving cunt and letting go of your hair to grip your hips with both hands, "You're a fucking menace."

no official tag but thought maybe time to share more about myself! mostly because I want to know more about you all as well, and @sperrywink extended an invite to seblaine mutuals so I will do the same!

How did you get into writing fanfiction?

I discovered it on accident as most of us do - I was on the Glee wiki I think? There was a link to select fanfics on the ship pages at the time, and I started reading one of the Finchel ones, and it was game over for me lol - I started writing my own a while after that, and I participated in a variety of Glee RPGs that inspired me to write other characters. I was in one of those massive Glee RPGs in like 2011 on fanfiction.net, and it was very formative for me in terms of connecting with the rest of the fandom and wanting to do more of that. RPGs are also so great for exposing you to ships you never would've liked or even thought of before, although all my current ships came from elsewhere lol

oh, and there was the whole escapism from family shit that was going down at the time thing - that was a huge factor for sure

2. How many fandoms have you written in?

I've almost exclusively been writing for the Glee fandom since the beginning, although the ships I've written for have changed drastically throughout that time. I've dabbled in some other things as well depending on my special interest at the moment, but I always come back to Glee. Other fandoms I've written for include The Outsiders, Degrassi, How I Met Your Mother, 13 Reasons Why, Girl Meets World, and Skam ! none of these are published anywhere anymore though as far as I know, it's all far too embarrassing (and yes I'm aware that's the most bizarre mix of fandoms ever)

3. How many years have you been writing fanfiction?

at least 12, I wanna say I started around 2012ish?

4. Do you read or write more fanfiction?

I genuinely think it's about equal, but it comes in waves. Sometimes I'm reading more, sometimes I'm writing more. I'm almost always working on something and I'm also almost always in the middle of reading a long fic.

5. What is one way you've improved as a writer?

I think I've gotten a lot better at writing comedy and ensemble dialogue. I like writing the silly goofy scenes with large friend groups a lot, especially when I feel like I've nailed the character's voices enough that I don't even need dialogue tags to know who said each line.

6. What's the weirdest topic you researched for a writing project?

Ohio geography lmao - I like always have Google Maps pulled up trying to map out different locations and how far drives would be, etc. I also have researched a ton about various colleges (especially for my current WIP since these characters are actively applying for college rn) and France (never been there, constantly have to write stuff that takes place there).

7. What's your favorite type of comment to receive on your work?

I genuinely do love all comments! I especially loves one that are specific/mention parts of the chapter or the fic that they enjoyed or thoughts that they had while reading. I also like chatting about the characters and canon and their predictions/hopes for the rest of the fic. The length doesn't really matter so much - I love long comments and short comments, and I try my best to respond to all of them.

8. What's the most fringe trope/topic you write about?

Idk I kinda write a lot of infidelity and toxic relationship stuff. Seblaine is the main ship I write for nowadays, and the nature of their relationship lends itself to a lot of infidelity in their process of getting together. I also just love writing angst, so even when I'm writing established relationships, they end up being sort of toxic throughout especially given the traits of both characters. I just find it more fun and probable to write a slightly toxic relationship than a 100% healthy one.

9. What is the hardest type of story for you to write?

PWP - I struggle so much with writing smut, although I like to think I've gotten a bit better at it recently. I'm also trying to get better at writing ensemble fics, but it's definitely a struggle for me to give each ship/character enough attention. And I'm pretty awful at world building, so anything remotely fantasy, sci fi, etc. is a huge struggle for me.

10. What is the easiest type?

slow burns! I've gotten so much better at delaying the characters from getting together for a really long time in fics and it's soooo fun. I prefer a character centric slow burn with lots of sexual tension and an arc that involves characters moving from enemies/friends/strangers to lovers over the course of many months or years.

11. Where do you do your writing? What platform? When?

I like to write outside of my own home - something about physically relocating makes me way more productive. I write a ton on planes (I travel a lot for work). I also love a good coffee shop, Panera, park, library, etc.

I write in Word and publish to AO3 - used to write in Google Docs but it's so slow and laggy so I much prefer Word. Used to publish on fanfiction.net but I will never go anywhere else now that I've transitioned to AO3, the far superior fanfic site lol

I am most productive with writing either during the day if I'm somewhere other than at home or in the middle of the night in bed - my most productive hours at home are between like midnight and 3 am

12. What is something you've been too nervous/intimidated to write, but would love to write one day?

I recently got over my fear of PWP and published a one shot that I'm very proud of. I have many ideas for things similar that I'd like to work through in the future!!

Most of this is fandom specific though - I'm super intimidated to write for big fandoms because I've gotten so comfortable in the Glee fandom, especially writing Seblaine which has a relatively small audience in comparison. I'd love to write Marauders, but that fandom is HUGE and very intimidating because there is so much lore and fanon to mess up. I hope to give it a shot one day though!

13. What made you choose your username?

it's a song lyric! lust hurts comes from the song "Barcelona Boots" by Arlie - the lyric goes "Lust hurts, could you bear it for me?" and I thought that was very fitting for someone like me who's obsessed with romance in fiction but can't be bothered with it in my real life

I think if i had to pick like. One game only that most of the cast could enjoy it'd be To the Moon not only because it's one of the VERY FEW not horror focused games in this god forsaken folder but also the story is just. ueeh. if i had to specifically pick characters though, i will have to say arashi and adonis. yeah.

Ib is another classic I can see a fair bit of characters enjoying??? if we are going on the gamer characters only, then id probably say makoto + trickstar (and i can see specially mao being into it). the puzzles are fun and the story is very compelling,,, i think the 4 would all probably play together as a "way of bonding!!!" but also as a way for hokuto to make sure makoto isn't scared and subaru isn't getting distracted every 3 minutes. mao would be solving the puzzles 90% of the time and the 4 all have so much fun playing it <3

I thiiiink this one might be a controversial one and i SWEAR im not being biased since this one's my favorite but. considering all the complicated over the top lore + all the philosophical shit in it. i think nagisa could EASILY get into Hello Charlotte and etherane stuff in general. yeah sure nagisa isnt the type of guy who would play online games and ill agree to that, but i can see jun maybe mentioning some philosophical game and Nagisa just staring at him with autism eyes filled with glee and curiosity. would probably end up spending two days not doing anything besides playing the whole trilogy + heaven's gate. right after that he is rambling to EVERYONE about it and the lore and the characters and how he related to both Vincent and Charlotte and no one gets what the hell Nagisa is talking about. would also bond over playing a game with Sora or something except Sora has no clue about the game Nagisa played. It's all a bunch of complicated words and what the hell do you mean gods and kids and different realities and. but Sora's very happy Nagisa seemed to have fun and now wants to invite him to play other stuff hashtag autism besties

talking about sora! 1bitHeart. cute silly warm game about making friends. the colors and soundtrack are all also very nice and i think sora would absolutely enjoy them. would get way too attached to ALL the characters after spending so much time talking with them and giving them gifts and i don't know man. 1bitHeart just has the switch vibes aesthetic-wise to me. natsume would also probably be into it and played it because of sora, thinking it'd be just a silly friendship game but natsume got too attached to certain characters too (not that they'd admit to it. if you ask natsume they'd just go "a silly game about befriendING others. it does NOT suit someone like ME.")

and talking about miwashiba games + natsume. I can fully see natsume being into LiEat. Both the world building and the characters in general + the premise itself of a dragon who feeds on lies screams natsume to me. would also NEVER admit to being into it but sora is very aware natsume enjoys it. i don't really have much to say on this one just trust me okay i swear LiEat natsume makes sense

to finish the miwashiba saga. ritsu would be into Alice Mare and i don't know how to explain this one either. the aesthetics just scream ritsu to me and i swear it makes sense somewhere ok please trust me cries

Dreaming Mary is a complicated one. just based on aesthetics id probably say tori but like. considering the bad ending stuff and all? i think tori would just get the bad ending and think its just a cutesy teehee ending and not pay it any mind. now if we are talking about someone who'd also get the real ending and still be into it i. kind of want to say hinata honestly. the aesthetics are overly cutesy, yeah, but i ALSO don't know how to properly put into words how i feel hinata would enjoy Dreaming Mary. i swear this is the final one i ask for you all to trust me on okay

Yume Nikki is also very much a classic but I can't exactly pinpoint like. one specific character who'd be into it. the game is too vague and explorative for me to be certain on who'd enjoy it. however, if you asked me right *now* id probably guess yuta or midori??? yeah really not sure for yume nikki but im sure SOMEONE would be into it

finally. the fucking mystery of kagehira mika. i originally considered funamusea's stuff but at the same time i don't think mika would be fully into them. then my brain went to the more classic horror games. maybe The Witch's House? or maybe Mad Father + Misao???? but then i recalled that corpse party is arguably a rpg maker game so case closed. mika corpse party.

7. Favourite works of all time excluding your own?

Uhhh, in general, I will go on my hands and knees and worship to what is the To the Moon/Sigmund Corp. series. Though I’m not constantly making art for it, It is one of my absolute favorite creative works out there. Beautiful piano-guitar music (Born a Stranger, Having Lived (TtM and FP), The Scale Theme (Piano and Guitar versions), Time is A Place, and A Reality Without Me being top tracks), a rpg indie game with memorable characters, and thought-provoking stories.

Also that they were the first few games to touch on the autism spectrum (though they couldn’t say it out right, only hinting it due to supposedly the huge stigma towards the very concept of it at the time though not confirmed to my knowledge). I didn't know much about it at the time but now with the possibility of myself being on the spectrum, I don't know. Think it's pretty neat?

Outside of that… I could list everything my friends have made ever if you want? Watching them create and improve and explore other styles and formats is very inspiring. Seeing them get that fire in their eyes and sharing their thought process and glee is infectious. If I could, I print them all out, frame and hang them in a gallery or learn to book bind and make a library.

14. How has your art changed over the years?

Going from a mouse user who avoid drawing faces and just made a dA account because someone I followed on FF.net wanted friends on there and someone in my third-year arch studio said the smudge art thing looked cool, to getting my first tablet, to where I am now... It really surprises how much has changed and how much stayed the same. I hope it changed for the better than regressing backwards but it’s hard to tell at times.

(Shoutout to past me who did this with a mouse. And to my sis who is a higher creative being that I can only dream of breathing who made the original)

17. What inspires you?

Sidu is one, she’s responsible for all the MVs and character designs for the Kagerou Project. The characters aren’t usually bombastic (aside one) but they still leave an impact. She tends to lean more into the subtlety and I kinda wanna do that too in stills or one day animations. (The MVs are amazing, go watch them especially the Ayano ones if you want to cry).

Other than that, most of my friends and their creative energy fuels a lot of what I do. Either though their writing, AUs, art, it just drives me to try and do the same. Just with the TWH AU, I have ton of ideas because of the wonderful folks there and I really wish I had all the time in the world to do them all to the best of my ability. If only I have enough time that is..

- magnus archives: one of the most bone chilling and fantastically written stories i’ve ever experienced in my life. to a certain extent, tma changed my outlook on all media. i cannot overstate how much this show means to me, even if i don’t always display it.

- taz: just finished balance and i realized i had become so emotionally invested in these characters that i was genuinely grieved when i realized the balance arc was truly over (on to amnesty!). i also never had been touched by the catalogue of griffin mcelroy music and i am thoroughly enraptured by his talent. his music is mesmerizing.

- rqg: another fantastically written narrative/mystery. i envy alexander jalexander nalexander’s skill and deft hand when it comes to gming. i aspire to a tenth of his prowess.

- spn: …..go look at my other blog. is this exposing myself on main? idk.

- shades of magic: this series was my first experience with adult fiction, so while it’s a wonderful series on its own, personally it opened a door to a whole world of books i had no idea i could read

- first season of glee: i like to think i have no shame about my trash, but i do harbor a lil bit of shame with this one. eh. anyway, kurt’s character and, honestly, most of his arc up until (i think, i watched it too fast to be able to remember seasons) season 3 is really important to me. i don’t know, it just means a lot.

- come from away: no deep personal meaning, i just love this show.

- les miserables: see above.

- idk how: saw them recently bc of a friend and now i’m SUPER into their music. much enjoy.

- orville peck: this one does have some sentimentality. the schrodinger’s camp of his cowboy persona is something i find so beautiful it’s hard to describe. seeing him embody his character is something so awesome in the biblical sense when i think about it i have a hard time quantifying it to myself.

- fight club: i had already read quite a lot of adult fiction when i read fight club, but fight club presented a lot of ideas by working to its medium’s advantage (honestly, i’m amazed at how brilliant the movie did the same exact thing, playing to the advantage of film, due to the fact it was adapting material that played to the advantage of writing) and being an incredibly thoughtful, yet also aggressive piece of literature

- lisa: another one that blew my mind by presenting ideas that worked with the medium it was using to punch so much harder than it would have.

- skyrim: rpg video game trash. MY trash. the junk food of video games.

- folding ideas’ filmography: i love his humor and the way he covers media. 10/10

- undertale: i just recently played it because i’m a lazy shit who just never bothered to play. so it hasn’t had the chance for me to sit and ruminate in my thoughts about it. therefore, i don’t know if it belongs on this list with other things i’ve had time to marinate with. but i did recently play it and i did have a great experience playing it! the fingers in his ass meme fucking ruined my asgore boss fight. fuck you all.

Otome Frog blog #1: Buying the Nintendo Switch

I bought the Nintendo Switch last year before the first wave of COVID-19 arrive. It was an impulse buy, I wanted to cancel my preorder in my local game store as I live in a third world country where Nintendo Switches cost around $500-$600+ in my local currency. I was committing a financial suicide (and it took me months to get that money back) but looking at it  now, I’m thankful for this reckless purchase. This console with its blue and green shell got me through the pandemic and online classes. I had very little games in it too. I only had Animal Crossing New Horizons, Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and I think you can firmly guess which one of the three I spent most of time on. 

For the next few months, COVID-19 cases went down to 0 in my country and life drew me apart from the console. For the next year or so, in the bubble of my country, we forgot everything COVID-19 and I forgot I bought a Nintendo Switch until the second wave arrive in August this year. I had a very... devastating event a few months prior to August so the second wave felt like salt to my wounds. I felt empty. I felt like I’ve became a shell of former self but I manage to fake it around family and friends. At night, I found it hard to sleep. I wasn’t suicidal nor did I have haunting thoughts and anxiety like my youth. It was too quiet. I’m unsure if this is called loneliness but it was closer to emptiness than anything else. 

Just when I was certain that I couldn’t return, I uncovered my Switch. I forgot where I stopped in Fire Emblem so I didn’t dare to proceed- I remembered that Dimitri was acting strange and I have no strength to see him in pain- wait, I’m feeling pain? I haven’t felt that in a while... 

This is the way for me to regain myself. This was a spark I need to be me again- a momentary escape from life.  

I opened up the Nintendo eshop and took a look of the games on sale hoping that one game can make a click with me but for some reason, nothing. I wasn’t a first person shooter kinda gamer, I don’t think I’m ready for an RPG. and Pokemon, Mario? I never grew up with those... I set the console down on my desk and leaned back to think. Throughout my life, I’ve been surrounded by Playstation. In fact, I only bought the Animal Crossing Edition Switch because it reminded me of the beloved mint color PSP I lost. It had a swollen battery and at the time, I was too young to fix it. In my naivety, I placed it in a box to be store away forever. I haven’t found it ever since.

I quickly grabbed my phone and searched the web remembering that I used to lookup translation blogs for large chunk of PSP released otome games never receive English localization. That was like, what? 5ish years ago? Could have there been any changes? I vaguely remember reading in Twitter about this news but were they out now? The Nintendo Switch ports.

I held my breath. There wasn’t a lot in the library but they’re there! They cost about $70 in my local currency which gave me a fright but they’re there! I felt glee and it was as warm and fuzzy as Hajime Saito’s smile from Hakuouki: Demon of Fleeting Cherry Blossoms years ago. It’ll take time for me to play them seeing that I can only buy them on sale but that’s okay. This Nintendo switch became a means for me to mend myself.

Here’s to my journey to healing through gaming. May I rid this emptiness out of my chest and be my former- no, better self.

it'd be so easy to do a s1 redo with age appropriate characters. you could have all the fun s1 drama and storylines but with characters that are 21+ and even alternative fcs to give it a twist, it surprises me there aren't any active rps like that around

Despite the one (super problematic) redo rp we can see in the tags, there aren’t any others. You’re right. And they are really easy to open up, run, and figure out plots and stuff for because you already have a full seven seasons worth of script to work with if you ever get lost. There have been rps like that before, which might be why there aren’t any now. Nobody wants to be the person that takes a thousand years to make a whole rpg only to get spammed with anons about how unoriginal and they are as thieves. I don’t think anyone looking to do a redo rp should feel like they might get harassed for theft, but it might happen. I can see gleerp sending out anon hate if another season one glee redo in college were to open up, even if they made their original. But it’s not like there’s anything unique or new that the admins over there created themselves, so there’s nothing for them to claim as intellectual property. If it were a season one redo with a twist, that might be a different story if someone were to snatch the unique twist. But it shouldn’t apply to the basic skeleton of a redo rp because you’re redoing something that someone else made, it’s not your original brain child.

Nobody wants to be the person that takes a thousand years to make a whole rpg only to get no apps either, because the community is pretty much dead and nobody applies to anything that their current friends aren’t already in. I wish it wasn’t like that, but it is. For this second issue, it would be nice if people were more open to joining things that aren’t made by their friends. If we could get that “I’ll join anything that looks interesting based on the plot and nothing else” energy back, we’d have a lot more rps in the tags. Graphics used to be the hot button, where nobody would app if the graphics weren’t stellar, but now it’s about friends. I remember seeing photoshop-less groups popping up a few years back to retaliate against the super pristine, elitist, you have to spend approximately ten lifetimes and sacrifice your first born to make a successful rp mentality, but those aren’t around anymore. I think that in general, the grpc and rp in general has been starting to really die off and wind down because people are no longer comfortable joining anything but their friend’s rps. So new people try to take their hand at admining an rp and in the past, that could have succeeded but in this rp climate.. it just ends up closing. Because people beg and scream for original rps all day and all night, but they won’t join them. The only rps in any of the tags that I’ve been able to find lately ALL have the same plot: open fandom or oc, everyone magically poofed from their hometowns and woke up here for no reason oh well here we are, let’s just write like that’s normal and nobody is going to be upset about being uprooted at all. The only rps I’m seeing in the grpc tag that are really active are just open town, no plot rps. All of the original ideas that I’ve seen started have all died off before they could even begin. Nobody seems to realize that by not applying to rps that are run by other people, they’re refusing to cross pollinate masterlists and create new breeds of friends that can blossom and flourish. If we all joined any rp we wanted to, we’d be making a ton of new friends left and right. Instead, we’re quarantined to our own friends and will only rp with the same people we’ve been rping with for five years. Think about it. If we all made our own rp, but refused to join anyone else’s rp... how are we going to get members in our rp? If nobody is joining anyone else’s rps? It’d just be the one admin per group and nobody else. You have to reach out and cross pollinate to keep the rpc active and fresh. I really do think that this right here is the number one killer of all things roleplay these days. I do still have places to rp but I have heard so many people complain about how hard it is to get their rp masterlist to flourish. 

It really would be easy though, and to be honest it would probably get more people involved in it than the pedophilic alternative. It’s 2021, not 2012 despite what my dyslexia might want to say about it sometimes; most people have learned how to spot and avoid a dumpster fire and with all of the people going to jail for internet activities that involve pedophilia and cp in 2020 and 2021 (I thought we learned the lesson with the former Glee actors much earlier than now, but I guess not), it’s no wonder people are avoiding pedo rps. You really have to want to engage in pedophilic activity to be hard-headed enough to not age the characters up appropriately and cause no actual harm to yourself or anyone else, it’s not like it used to be when people were dim enough to do it without thinking. Like twincest, incest, and other problematic behaviors that used to saturate the community... the silent time where people ignored the nasty and joined anyway while pretending to not see anything they thought might be problematic are over. We’ve all seen prominent figures in the grpc being torn down from their pedestals for engaging in problematic behavior, pedophilia being one of those things that people are getting mass hate for. So it really is a fight to keep writing it. You have to go through being dragged through the mud and hated on in order to cling to these things nowadays. To me, that just makes it even worse. Not only are we all advanced enough now to be beyond the 2012 insanity, it is also costly to a person’s reputation and ability to go through life without being flamed by anon hate to continue to live by offensive behavior in a way that wasn’t “real” back in 2012. Not to mention, we’re all 9 years older than we were back then. So we should have matured 9 years and we should be 9 years further away from being invested in children having sex and writing out the whole “teenage sexual awakening” and “coming of age” stories. Maybe 9 years ago when we were all 18, it might have been closer to relevant and something cathartic, but why on EARTH would someone that is around 30 years old still NEED to write children coming of age if not because they’re pedophiles? That’s the one argument I always see for this. But I want to write a coming of age story, but I want to write about my character maturing as a teenager and finding adulthood. WHY? Why do you want to do that? Why do you want to write that? Why do you want to obsess (because let’s be real, we all obsess over our muses and their relationships and lives) over children having sex? Why? Why can’t you write an appropriate coming of age story for someone in college? Why is it that the characters being 14 is so integral to your smut and your plot and your needs as a writer?

You’re also risking the law, as I’ve stated many times. Feel free to Google what happens when the FBI decides to look at your internet history and finds pedophilic content there. And the FBI will get involved if it’s a bigger case, like a roleplay group that contains a dozen members that are all tied to the pedophilic content. You can even Google “roleplay” with that and you’ll find horror stories of people being sentenced to 10-25+ years in FEDERAL PRISON for roleplaying the 18- having sex. That alone, if your morals are weak, should be enough to keep you away from writing pedophilic content. I just don’t see how anyone could ever say to themselves that they needed to write 14 year olds having sex SO BADLY that it was alright with them if it meant they had to go to prison for it. That’s making these people’s need to write child porn sound like an addiction. Nasty.

I honestly, truly, definitely, genuinely do not understand. You have to be a SERIOUS, GENUINE, SERIOUS PEDOPHILE with a SERIOUS PROBLEM to be willing to write in a group like gleerp that has minors having sex in it. Look at the risk. I do not ever want to be able to understand how the “reward” of being able to write 14 year olds having sex with each other is going to outweigh the negative risk. Even just your run-of-the-mill, every day pedo is going to be too scared to do something like that, because the risk outweighs the reward. So.... I just don’t understand how 30 year old adults are so invested in these characters NEEDING TO BE children in order for them to want to write them. Like... Age them up to an appropriate age and make it a college rp and have exactly the same plots and exactly the same things and exactly the same everything except suddenly it’s appropriate and not pedophilia or... keep them kids and get hated on daily and risk getting yourself and everyone else in your group locked up? 

I think the choice is clear to any sane individual.
