Decided to do some lgbtq art. The line art was technically done by someone else. She sent me prints of her work, and I glued it on blank atc cards and cut off ecsess. Then I colored in non binary and Trans colors and added some of my own line art to it as well. So it's a combination of 2 artists. I'm non binary myself.

Georgie Stone farewells Neighbours after five years as Mackenzie

Actress Georgie Stone has bid farewell to her role as Mackenzie Hargraves on Neighbours, the first trans actor to star in the soap.

After five years of playing the role of Mackenzie Hargraves on Neighbours, Georgie Stone has bid farewell to the iconic soap this week.

Stone made history when she was cast in the role of Mackenzie, collaborating with the writers to help build authentic trans representation on television.

What started as a guest role soon evolved into a permanent fixture on Ramsey Street.

“I was 19 years old when I first walked onto the Neighbours set.” Stone said in a farewell post on Instagram.

“I’d never acted before and was absolutely terrified of failing.”

“Mackenzie was the show’s first-ever transgender character – a character I pitched.”

“I felt both proud and anxious to carry the responsibility of positive representation. ”

“What was supposed to be a 6-week storyline turned into 5 wonderful years of learning from some of the best creatives in the industry.”

“I feel so grateful to have had the opportunity to be a part of this incredible show, and to play a character so special to me.”

Powerful representation on our screens

Stone is a trans trailblazer, having championed a legal ruling denying trans children to begin puberty blockers at a young age without court permission.

Stone with her family’s support won that ruling, and she became the youngest child in Australia to receive puberty blocker medication at the age of 10.

Creating positive representation for others by being herself, she received many awards including GLOBE GLBTI Person of the Year, the Medal of the Order of Australia and more.

In 2018, Stone took a leap of faith and e-mailed the producers with a transgender storyline for the show.

Her parents had both been on the show and she had nothing to lose.

Creating a rough profile synopsis of a storyline for Neighbours first transgender character, she expected to receive a polite rejection.

Stone was shocked to receive an excited reply two hours later.

The show has had many same-sex characters, but a trans role would be a first.

Not only has her character created powerful trans representation, she has been a part of many of the show’s iconic storylines.

With the show’s cancellation and then renewal, Mackenzie has been marriages twice, almost died a few times, and show a whole lot of growth.

“Mackenzie has earned her place in the Ramsay Street Hall of Fame regardless of representation.” Neighbours Script Producer Shane Isheev said on X.

“It’s no secret I have a special place in my heart for Mackenzie, and even more so for Georgie Stone.”

“It’s been a unique experience writing for her because of the collaboration involved.”

“We’ve all helped create and evolve Mackenzie, which has been an absolute career highlight.” he continued.

“She’s a wonderful character, with a rich tapestry of heartwarming attributes and human flaws.”

“It’s been incredible watching Georgie bring her to life and go from strength to strength as an actress.”

Time for her next adventure

“I knew going in that I would be in for a learning curve, but I could never have predicted how much this show would change me as a person.” Stone continued on Instagram.

“Just like Mackenzie, my time on Ramsay Street has made me so much more confident and ambitious.”

“I have met some brilliant people over the years, both in front of and behind the camera, and made some friends who I will cherish forever.”

“Thank you so much for embracing Mackenzie the way that you have. I am so incredibly grateful.”

“It’s now time for the next adventure, but I will always feel honoured to have called Erinsborough home, even for a little while.”

Wrapping up her character storyline marrying Haz played by Shiv Palekar and moving to Paris, we are excited to see what is next for Georgie.

Whether it be acting, advocating or just being proudly visible, we can’t wait to see her continue to soar.
