I was going to wait to post something like this until I make more references sheets, but I thought the designs themselves would be a reveal enough and I could share their names and stuff now. Things may get changed/added in the future, partially because I’m not sure how I feel about some of these names *glares at Turret Core* but anyway- If you’re new here, jut know getting into it that yes, all the cores are trans, and no, I will not be taking criticism

Portal LGBTQ+ headcanons! My OCs and interpretations of the canon characters have changed a lot since when I first made them, including my views on their sexualities and genders.  Chell - I headcanon her as demi and bi, but focused on the demi part here. She needs a strong friendship and trust to be built before any romantic feelings (especially after the events of the games). As much as I love Chelley, I acknowledge that it would probably take years before a bond could be made. Great for angst tho lol. Wheatley - This boy is pan and you can't convince me otherwise. He looks for love in all places and unfortunately finds very little.  Michael - First OC. He is a closeted bisexual. He loved his wife as much as life itself, but after her death, Wheatley was a willing rebound. Even though this makes Chelley a little...weird as he is my hc for Chell's dad, I love the idea of the two supporting each other during times of grief and self-loathing. GLaDOS - My aro icon. As annoying it is to have only robots or aliens for aro/ace representation and still have canon aro/ace characters shipped or sexualized I still love the idea of aromantic GLaDOS. I feel that she still felt some love towards others, specifically Chell, just platonic love. Caroline - I know that a lot of people ship her with Cave Johnson and there were many signs of the two having a close relationship. However, I never got the impression that it was a romantic one. Plus, Cave was a bit of an ass and she deserves better. I just really like the idea of her being a closeted lesbian, only out to Cave who pretended to be in some sort of relationship with her to ward off unwelcome advances from the male scientists. Plus the whole "married to science" thing. Liliana - A recently made OC who is the human basis for the core I headcanon as being the first to be in charge of the facility. Long story. She was one of the many homeless to be snatched up by Aperture during the rougher years. Although Cave was going to pass on her (sexist bastard lol), she caught Caroline's eye and became a sort of temp/intern, working for food and a place to stay. Also a total lesbian smitten by the beauty that is Caroline. Rick/Adventure Core - Female, male, nonbinary, human, core, any mix of those, doesn’t really matter to him. So definitely pansexual. Rattman - So, from the first game in one of his "dens", he has pictures of both men and women with the companion cube pasted over their faces. And he has a high key love for the companion cube. Yeah he is bi as hell Companion Cube - I had Rattman so I wanted to include the cube as well. As mentioned previously, he sees the cube as being both male and female, so...genderfluid companion cube? At least in Rattman's eyes. Atlas/P-body - I know the game avoids mentioning their genders so that the players can project themselves onto them, but I like to see them as non-binary, specifically agender. Turrets/Oracle Turret - Very similar to Atlas and Peabody in that they just don't see themselves as either male or female like GLaDOS or Wheatley. So they're non-binary as well. Virgil/Rainbow Core - These two are so gay for each other, it's amazing. Enough said. Alexander/Alexa - This is a pretty recent interpretation of my old OC who was meant to be a morally grey antagonist alongside GLaDOS for the pre-games story. I know that it's problematic to make a villain LGBT+, but I really don't see them as much as a villain anymore. They had a pretty rough life and just found acceptance in the wrong places. But still killed people. Anyway, I see her as a very closeted trans woman. Alexa struggled with her identity and place in life, and questioning her gender was a part of it. Plus, I like to think that she only came out to GLaDOS, who was like "The human concept of gender is an enigma to me, so I don't mind calling you she/her. Whatever convinces you to let me access the neurotoxin" and she was too desperate for validation to see that GLaDOS was just being manipulative. Anyway, those were my headcanons that I drew on a whim two years ago.

You have oc's? Can we hear abt them? :D
oh absolutely!! get ready for a very long post oof
first up we have my pride and joy, Nova
Tumblr media
nova is quite similar to me in a lot of ways, but also they are significantly more able and willing to throw hands if the need arises, they’ve got a badass side to them ahaha. a fiercely loyal friend and partner, nova will do everything in their power to defend and to support the people they care about. their aesthetic theme is red and black modern style (that’s their wardrobe and their apartment) which i have a lot of fun with. they play guitar and ukulele, they write and sing their own songs… oh, and they were essentially created to be my slightly-altered-self-insert’s significant other. though i do hope to someday build a larger story universe for nova and their friends. i have basic visual ideas for said friends, who are named lucas, monica, and sophie, but their personalities are quite simple at the moment.
next we have cassie, a portal-specific character
Tumblr media
awkward and anxious, but caring and curious, cassie is a bisexual aperture scientist who was relatively new but quickly grew close to her team (particularly virgil and wheatley) and to caroline, whom she has a major crush on. design-wise, i took inspiration from both the morality core and the curiosity core, hence her color scheme. this is meant to manifest in her ever-growing interest in not just her sector of the labs, but allllllll the facility has to offer, as well as her frequent (but quiet) disagreements with cave johnson over ethics and stuff.
there’s a little seed of an idea that i’ve had from the start that would, if put into action, ultimately come to cassie dropping all formalities and all but fighting cave and his plan to force caroline into an AI. however as we all know, cassie loses this fight and caroline becomes glados and cassie herself gets split into two cores. or, at least, that’s my idea. i haven’t done anything with it yet, but it’s technically canon for the au. if that makes sense.
let’s see, who else have i got…
let’s shift gears entirely. who likes fantasy? i’m developing an idea for an original fantasy novel called reverie of roses and here’s the basic idea
Rosalie Emberglow and her wizard father run a little potion shop in a small town. Rosalie’s father is a great magic user, but thanks to her undying dedication to studying magic Rosalie has become even greater. her dream is to be accepted into the royal academy of magic and work for the queen one day. and where her story begins, she is about to achieve just that.
however, her mother Alina (name subject to change), who is a goddess (immortals are a species in this universe it;s true because i say so and deities are different), has been absent all her life, partying it up 24/7 in the immortal realm with the other gods and goddesses, and has never once come down to the earth realm to see the man she slept with that one time, or the daughter she left him with. they only really converse via a magical song that transcends the realms, but alina simply was not willing to commit to being a parent and therefore has never assumed the role of one.
however in her magic studies rosalie discovers a way for a mortal to travel to the immortal realm without the help of an immortal, and she’s like holy shit i could actually see my mom for once, and the rest of the story is basically her, and also her archer girlfriend Hoshi, traveling across the kingdom to do the spell and at the climax she gets there and she finds out alina still doesn’t really care and she has to choose between her dream of having her mom, or the dream that she worked for by herself that she can actually reap the rewards of
reverie of roses takes place in what may or may not be a series that i’ve working-titled “the estelia chronicles” (estelia is the name of the kingdom). i’ve got a seedling of a second estelia chronicles book called “arcana’s cross” (again, working title) that doesn’t have much to do with rosalie at all. instead it features Kayo and Willow, a lesbian couple who have spent their late teens/early adulthood traveling the world by sea.
the group they are a part of is given a quest by a queen to retrieve an extraordinarily valuable magical artifact called the arcana’s cross (ooo, name drop) from where a band of Fucken Hooligans (that’s not how i’d word it in the book lol) are trying to steal it for themselves. kayo’s team must travel to the location and secure the cross, then safely bring it back to the queen so she can ensure it doesn’t fall into the wrong hands.
but that’s not all. before the group is really able to start this mission, willow falls ill and suffers some permanent repercussions of the illness rendering her unable to travel that far (well she could but it would be really dumb to try). as one of the leaders of the group, kayo must still go on the mission, but willow stays home.
i haven’t quite gotten to novel-level plot structure yet, but that’s the basic premise i guess. i will say kayo and willow both live. i’m not quite to that level of angst in my original stories… yet.
i’m going to leave it there because 1) i need to sleep 2) this post is so many words and 3) i can’t really think of any other currently-relevant OCs of mine. however, feel free to ask me more about any of them, i’d love to share more about them!!! maybe it’ll convince me to like. develop them more and start writing a full book or in nova’s case a webcomic or something

this is kind of a weird post to make since i usually don’t make posts like this, but i sort of want to sit down and talk about bi content in fandom and why i feel uncomfortable in a lot of the fandoms i partake in, as a bi person
buckle in, this is gonna be a lot of rambling thanks to yours truly
as someone who identifies as bi, i feel like fandom is a bit of a gray area. i’ve seen a lot of posts, and a lot of commentary, about het ships, and like. i get it. it’s easy to be naturally suspicious when people tend to ship girl/guy ships and avoid anything else. but when the character is bi/headcanoned as bi, it’s a completely different ballgame.
you’re allowed to personally headcanon whatever you want, and i never want to take that away from people, as i have bi headcanons (or as i call it: bi until proven otherwise). it’s a bias thing. as a bi person, i tend to see characters that aren’t coded to me as something else immediately as bi until i feel they might be something else. generally, this is also how i multiship, and i have ships of all kinds. but i agree that for example, if you’re gay, or straight, or a lesbian, or any other orientation (ace and aro, pan, etc!), you’d tend to lean in on your bias. this isn’t a bad thing! the problem is when you lean too heavily on your bias and get angry at people for thinking otherwise.
case in point: there’s been a lot of portal discourse floating around, and while i’ve made efforts to distance myself from it, it’s really hard when it feels so pervasive. while this is likely not intended, the attitude of many blogs insisting that ‘glados is a lesbian, and if you don’t share this thought, you’re homophobic’ is a hard one to swallow, especially as someone who does think an integral part of glados’ character is chell and her respect and intricate relationship with chell, but also ships glados and wheatley like no tomorrow. in addition, a character like glados’ sexuality could honestly be anything, even with a possible interest in chell included. she could also be bi. she could be pan. it’s never explicitly felt or stated in the canon, and quite frankly, that’s enough for me to say that leeway is allowed in headcanoning her sexuality.
and portal aside, the issue of max caulfield from life is strange. i’ve scrolled through too many of those soapbox posts in that fandom too, insisting how much they love max being gay, and erasing one of her canon love paths in favor of just picking chloe. this is an evidently, canonly bisexual character, dictated by player choice which character she chooses to pursue in a romantic manner (chloe or warren. a girl or a guy.) which already indicates she is interested in both, which already indicates she is not heterosexual or a lesbian. the player has agency over which choice is made, hell you could even respond positively to none or both of them, but this doesn’t discount the fact that those two paths are canonically available. even then, i ran into a post that was disgustedly complaining about the gross ‘hets’ shipping nathan and max, and if they HAD to have a het ship, why not pick warren? discounting that warren is a totally different character, and that despite shipping max with a guy, she still has canon interest in chloe. i ship max/nathan. i ship max/chloe. i ship max/warren. i ship max/victoria.
and clarke griffin from the 100! don’t even get me started. she has canon relationships throughout the series with guys and girls, mostly girls, but she is still. bi. she has had romantic and sexual encounters with guys and girls in the show. and while i’ve only dipped my toes in the 100 fandom, i’ve seen people comment that ‘if she ends up with ‘x guy’ im gonna puke’, as if insinuating queerbaiting when really, she’s had one short relationship with a guy that was practically immediately halted, then one relationship with a girl, then another relationship (longstanding!) with another girl. she is still bi if she ends up with a girl, or a guy.
i get it. it seems shady when people lean on het ships, but they’re also a part of what bi people are, and this doesn’t erase the part of us that is also attracted to multiple genders.
and as a final point: while it’s important to make legitimate critiques on heteronormativity, and its effect in fandom, i think it’s also important to realize that bi people are bi. i’m not shipping ‘het ships’ (in quotations because they could be bihet, or otherwise invisibly lgbt+) because i’m ‘het’, i’m shipping ‘het ships’ because that’s part of who i am. i’m tired of worrying on this blue hellsite whether i’m ‘gay enough’ and never feeling good enough for women because i’m not ‘gay enough’. i’m tired of my ‘het ships’ making people think i’m invariably heterosexual when i’m really just super bi. i’m tired of people not taking a second or two to consider this before they make loud posts screaming about how gay characters are, and if you don’t agree on this specific orientation headcanon, you must be making mental backflips because how could you think otherwise, you must be homophobic, etc. etc. all because of this specific character and this specific headcanon.
obviously this doesn’t go for canon sexualities, or obviously implied (an example i tend to lean towards in counterpoint is that i heavily headcanon and suspect chloe is canonly a lesbian). but i tend to see people waive canon bisexual characters a LOT more than i see people waive canonly gay or lesbian characters. but this may also be part of my bias, since this is a personal issue, just as lesbian erasure or gay erasure etc. plagues those specific groups of people personally as well.
