New Sunny podcast is out and, as teased, it's about the guys' upcoming films, Fool's Paradise and Blackberry, out on 12 May!

Meg showed up at 9:00 which some people might say is late.

Shopify ad is full of Succession references, "Glendall Roy!!!!" and Logan Roy-isms: "FUCK OFF!"

There are a few new clips for the creeps.

Fool's Paradise

Hollywood satire with a focus on persona, ego and stage names, hence why the main character is accidentally named "Latte Pronto" and a passive observer reflecting the surrounding characters' projections.

Explores different sides of the industry with the big cast and spirals into chaos by the end as the ppl behind the stars are revealed

Charlie started on the script during Sunny S10 (~2014) bc he felt certain '70s and '30s style comedies weren't being made anymore.

Felt he'd never be cast in them even if they were

Directed because he didn't want to give up control of his script especially if he was going to play the passive lead without a voice

Influences: Being There (1979) starring Peter Sellers and directed by Hal Ashby; also films by Woody Allen, Albert Brooks, Robert Altman, Coen Brothers, Paul Thomas Anderson, Buster Keaton, and Charlie Chaplin

Charlie plays the MC but Ken Jeong's character is the protagonist

Movie follows their journey together looking for real relationships in Hollywood.

Reshoots focused on making Ken the heart of the movie

Charlie worried that he was pushing Ken too much, but Ken was willing to do many takes to get to a non-sarcastic heartfelt place

Jon Brion's score is very classic old-fashioned Hollywood and used a lot of old recording techniques to add to the timeless fairytale feel of the movie

Glenn loved Charlie's script from the first draft and every revision

Charlie and Rob, the Original Glenn Girlies, found Glenn and his glacting choice to do a "vaguely European" accent (like Jan?) for his Business Manager character to be the funniest part of the film

Film contains Sunny easter eggs and actors like Peter McKenzie

Blackberry

Glenn was nervous about playing a character based on a real person, especially since he only had 3.5 weeks to prepare and couldn't do as much research as he would have liked.

IRL Jim met Glenn at the Toronto premiere and seemed to approve his onscreen portrayal.

Glenn felt like he lacked film experience where characters have arcs, so it was a challenge to keep track of Jim's anxiety levels through the story while shooting out of order.

Read the script many times and talked to director Matt Johnson about every scene because he didn't have the benefit of being a writer here like he does on Sunny

Worried about being too unlikeable but committed fully to the character because of his experience with Dennis

Glenn played Jim very earnest and sincere, and not at all for laughs — that's where the comedy comes from

Rob and Charlie found Jim to be nothing like Dennis or Glenn because even though they both experience rage, Jim is competent and has a cold killer look in his eyes -> DENNIS IS NOT A COLD CALCULATING KILLER.

Matt Johnson shot with long lenses on gimbals so that the cameras were far away enough for the actors not to know if they were being filmed and what was on screen — this adds to the handheld thriller but kinda comedic aesthetic of the whole film

Charlie was excited that a director finally let Glenn go full Glenn all over this movie and wished he was in every frame

Also wished he was the one directing the movie showing off Glenn

Rob, Charlie and Meg are annoyed that people are so surprised how good Glenn is in this role (we know and agree!) and predict that he will get more roles off this performance

Glenn has a theory on why he thinks things are shifting for the Sunny cast BUT HE DOESN'T GET INTO IT BECAUSE THERE'S NO TIME LEFT NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

For anyone who doesn't know, these screenshots are from a video called Artemis Pebdani Auditions featuring Artemis, Glenn, Charlie and Jordan Reid (the original Sweet Dee).

Episode 2 "Big Breasted Violence" of the original home movie series It's Always Sunny on TV featured Artemis Pebdani and Morena Baccarin as Carmen, so I reckon that's where this is from. Since Episode 1 "Charlie Has Cancer" was shot in November 2003, this was probably shot in 2003 as well.*

Btw, there's a little channel called PatheticGrrl43 with some great Dee/Kaitlin content, including this Dee & Artemis at an Audition video.

The article gets into some of his school days, Juilliard and his perspective on acting, his work on Sunny, leaving Sunny after season 12 when he'd thought the show should end (can't wait for that podcast conversation in 3 years or maybe even in Season 6 if they ever address Glenn Howerton Burnout No. 1), and later coming back, continuing to push his boundaries in acting in season 15 with the Ireland arc, and working with director Matt Johnson on Blackberry.

A lot of it is quotes from Charlie and Rob, who are properly frustrated that he's been so overlooked (them, the original Glenn girlies!), his wife Jill, Megan and other people he's worked with, like an old drama teacher from school and Mike O'Brien from AP Bio.

Honestly, all of this is just giving me a lot of respect for Matt Johnson, who was looking for comedic actors to play dramatic roles, specifically wanted Glenn to play Jim in Blackberry and had to fight to get him the role because Canadian productions with Canadian funding don't like using outside actors. This guy saw the vision and he was cool with Glenn getting that stupid haircut too.

Apparently, when Glenn received the script, his first thought was why me, shouldn't some bigshot do this role... he's such an idiot.

Something we've always known and the article confirms again is about how he's clearly grateful for the opportunities they have with Sunny, the kind that few writers/actors ever get with that level of creative control (something they get reminded of by other people in the industry a lot) but he's also been the most stifled by it of anyone in the cast because of his goal of being an actor more than the others, and so it gives him these mixed feelings about the longevity of the show.

I don't know if they've ever confirmed that RCG talked about ending the show around season 12.

He's not wrong. We know that once he came back to season 13, he did his rewrites on all the scripts featuring Dennis even though he wasn't fully back to writing yet. I personally don't think they should continue the show if any of them leave. They're better off taking longer breaks between the seasons like Curb does.

Labor Welcomes Puerto Rican Patriot Oscar López Rivera to Southern California

           We, the undersigned labor leaders and activists, are proud to welcome Oscar López Rivera, Puerto Rican patriot and former political prisoner, to Southern California at a reception on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018 at 6:00 PM at Dr. Maya Angelou Community High School in south LA. Please join us!

López Rivera is an inspiring example of the power of principled commitment and resistance to oppression and repression. A decorated veteran of the Vietnam War, he served more than 35 years in federal prison for his commitment to independence for Puerto Rico; post-release, he has come out more dedicated than ever to serving his homeland and its working people.      

Oscar López Rivera brings word of the historic struggle of all Puerto Ricans, and particularly Puerto Rican workers, on the island and in the US, for human dignity and economic rights, and of the current self-determined efforts at the grassroots to meet people's needs.

Despite the efforts of organized labor, working people in Puerto Rico get a smaller share of total income than do their counterparts here in the U.S. Thousands of jobs are threatened by the onerous financial control board. Effectively a  junta mainly appointed by the Republican-dominated US Congress, it oversees the budget and government spending in Puerto Rico in order to meet the demands of Wall Street and hedge funds for debt repayment. Unlike US states and municipalities, Puerto Rico is denied by the US Congress the power to arrange for an orderly court-supervised bankruptcy process, and so its creditors get first claim on its funds, forcing the closing of schools and other essential services, and lay-offs of workers. The debt and the financial straits, artifacts of US colonialism in Puerto Rico, have been worsened by the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria and the response by the US government and the Trump administration.

Since his release in May 2017, López Rivera has worked to provide community and labor aid for recovery in Puerto Rico, as well as addressing the needs of the Puerto Rican diaspora in the U.S. as he did in the years before his incarceration. This tour is raising funds for the Oscar López Rivera Foundation (Fundación Oscar López Rivera-Libertá) to support its important work and relief efforts.    

US organized labor has a history of engagement and solidarity with organized labor in Puerto Rico; a fundamental basis for solidarity is their shared struggle against economic and political control by US banks, corporations, and agencies.
