my man of the year
Ewan Mitchell x girlfriend!reader
a/n: just a little something for the Ewan girlies, because in this GQ party, we are all fam 💙
main masterlist
You attend the GQ Men of the Year 2024 party with your boyfriend.
You watch in admiration as Davey makes the final tweaks to Ewan's outfit for the event—a suit tailored to perfection, its velvet material snug against his lean form. A classic piece, but sporting some eccentricities that have become essential in the Mitchell-Sutton style partnership.
The velvet suit, not in the usual black or blue, also has a textured high notch and lapels, making him look like some kind of an 80s-flick vampire.
Your gaze sweeps from his polished shoes up to his face, finding that he's watching you in the reflection as he stands in front of the mirror.
He tries turning around to see you better, causing Davey's hand to fall from his shoulder as he was pinning something in place. "Ewan, mate. Save the ogling for later, yeah? Let me finish this first."
Ewan sighs dramatically, like a kid who's been asked to stand in the corner. "Okay."
You giggle softly, shaking your head at the scene. "Ewan, listen to Davey now."
You share a look with Davey, knowing smiles on your lips. Ewan, am I right?
"I just want to look at my girlfriend," Ewan complains.
"Look at me?" you question. "Look at you, handsome! You're my man of the year, every damn year."
"C'mere, babe."
"Ewan, don't move until Davey—."
"I won't move. But come here and give me a kiss."
"Fine." You get up from your comfortable position on the seat. Might as well oblige your boyfriend, the GQ honouree. Just the thought of it makes you so giddy with pride.
Rising onto your tiptoes, you rest your chin gently on his shoulder, batting your eyelashes as he leans his head against yours.
"There's my girl," he purrs, wrapping his free arm around your waist and Davey works on the sleeve on the other.
Then he kisses you, mindful to stay perfectly still. Only his lips move, pillowy as they caress yours. You would have to reapply your lipstick after this.
When he cheekily snakes his tongue out, you pull back, giving him an incredulous shake of your head. "Stand down, handsome."
"Oh, don't worry about me, sweetheart," Davey reassures you. "Maybe we should let Ewan have his way. Poor guy looks like he's about to explode."
You all share a laugh.
A minute later, he's all ready. Davey snaps photos of him alone, then shifts to capture the two of you together. He even manages a few that feel like classic prom poses, with Ewan's arms around you from behind.
The rest of the night is a blur of lights and glamour, and the warmth of Ewan's hand on your back quells your nerves as you step onto the red carpet.
The cameras are everywhere, a sea of flashes and shouting for you to, look here, look here!
Ewan keeps you close the entire time, steering you through it all. You can feel that he's anxious too but he's a steady presence by your side. He used to need a crutch like cigarettes or gum to deal with the chaos of such public events, but when you're with him, the noise is silenced.
It's just you and him against the world.
When his arm tightens around you, you jokingly remark, "Didn't peg you for the clingy type, babe."
He glances down, a mischievous sparkle in his eyes. "Just making sure you don't run off with some other dashing celebrity."
An idea pops up in your head. He makes it all too easy. You let out a shaky gasp, "Wait, is that Pedro Pascal over there?"
"Where?" he asks sharply, distracted.
"By the big GQ sign. Don't make it obvious, though!" you whisper, as if you're entirely serious.
He squints, scanning the sea of people coming through the red carpet, until he realizes… there's no Pedro. Not yet, at least.
He turns to you with a playful glare, his mouth twitching with the hint of a smile. "You think you're funny, don't you, baby?"
You give your best wide-eyed, innocent look. "Who, me?"
"You're asking for it," he whispers close to your ear so the cameras don't catch it.
You only laugh as he pulls you closer, giving your waist another possessive squeeze.
"And what exactly are you gonna do about it?" you ask.
"Guess you'll have to find out after we're done here."
When he kisses you, you both know that the resulting pictures are going to flood the gossip sites, fan pages, and everything in between as soon as the next day. But neither of you care.
He makes sure that there's no mistaking who he came with that night.
And you would never tire of showing everyone just who your boyfriend is. You could scream it from the rooftops.
He doesn't need GQ to tell him he's one of the honourees of the year.
All he needs is you by his side to feel like he's truly won.

You took Bradley's breath away every time he saw you. Even when he was standing tall between Maverick and Cyclone, it made no difference. He was reduced to a lovesick wreck when you walked down the stairs of the school bus with your students in tow.
"Well done," Maverick muttered, and Bradley felt his cheeks grow a little warm. You looked incredible in a pair of jeans and a plain top, but the look was really completed by the lanyard around your neck with the visitor's pass with your name on it. He'd work on getting you a permanent pass so you could stop by whenever you wanted. God, he was a mess every time he thought about the future.
When you smiled directly at him, he knew he'd take the reprimand if it came; you wanted him to kiss you right now, so he was going to. "Welcome to North Island," he told your kids with a grin. Then he looped one arm around your waist, pulled you close, and kissed you in front of everyone. "I can't wait to show you everything."
You made a soft sound when he released you, and your eyes darted from Maverick on his right to Cyclone on his left. "Thank you for having us today," you said a little breathlessly, biting your lip. You were flustered. He made you that way, and he loved hearing it in your voice.
"Fourth graders," Bradley called out. "This is Captain Mitchell and Admiral Simpson. They both outrank me. By a lot. Let's all give Admiral Simpson our attention."
"Welcome," bellowed Cyclone in his stern voice, and Bradley watched the kids fall in line silently. "This is an active military base. It is important that you remember that fact while you're visiting today." Half of them looked scared while the other half looked excited beyond belief as he said, "The last thing we want is an injury, or worse. Stay with your group. Stay near your teacher. Never go off alone." A very stiff smile appeared on his face as he said, "But have fun."
Bradley cleared his throat. "Thank you, Admiral Simpson," he told the other man, saluting him. Then he addressed you and your class again. "Does anyone have any questions before we get started?"
When Violet's hand shot up into the air, Bradley pointed to her with a smile. "Lieutenant Bradshaw, how many different kinds of jets are we going to see today? And do they all fly at the same speed? And can you help me solve a math problem that I thought of on the bus?"
"Well," Cyclone said, looking pleasantly surprised. "These children sound like aviation experts."
Bradley noticed how your smile grew as he said, "That's because their teacher is incredible." He kept his hands at his side instead of flinging his arm around your shoulders like he wanted to as he nodded toward the hangar. "To answer Violet's question, we will see three different kinds of aircrafts and get to sit in one of them."
"No way!" Oliver said in excitement. "Do we get to sit in your jet?"
Bradley winked and said, "You'll just have to wait and see."
He and Maverick led the group into the busy hangar, the kids trailing along single file as the chaperones brought up the rear. He positioned you in the middle of the group, because nothing was more important today than keeping everyone safe. He pointed out the EA-18 Growler and the E-2 Hawkeye before some Super Hornets came into view.
"Who wants to see Marty work some of his mechanical magic?" Bradley asked as soon as he saw the tarp on the ground where there were engine parts lined up like a surgical procedure was about to take place. Every child's hand shot up into the air, and he chuckled as you and the three chaperones all enthusiastically raised yours as well. "I have some good news. We get to watch while he rebuilds the engine mount and part of the intake manifold on my colleague's jet."
"Phoenix," Jayden read, pointing to the name emblazoned on the side. "That's a cool call sign."
"It's an even cooler pilot," said Natasha as she peeked around the workstation in her flight suit. "You must be the pen pals," she said with a smile. Bradley watched her wave to you, and he'd have to remember to make a comment later about how his best friend finally saw you with pants on.
"It's a woman," Violet said in complete awe. "She's a pilot."
"The best of the best," Nat replied. "You can all call me Lieutenant Trace or Phoenix. Oh! Here's my backseater, Lieutenant Floyd."
When Bob strolled around the workstation and waved to the kids with a smile, he said, "I'm Lieutenant Floyd, but my call sign is Bob."
"He has glasses!" gasped Henry. "Like me!"
Bob gave him a fist bump on his way to the rec room. "I sure do. You can fly with glasses."
"Wow."
Bradley watched all of the kids staring at him, Nat and Bob like they were the absolute coolest adults to ever exist, and maybe they weren't wrong. But they had to know they were in the presence of someone just as fascinating on a daily basis. "You all have your teacher to thank for sparking such an avid interest in aviation in your minds. She probably knows just as much as we do."
Your eyes went wide. "I'm sure I don't," you muttered glaring at him playfully. "Is that Marty? I recognize him from your deployment videos."
When you nodded past Bradley, he turned to see his favorite mechanic stroll back into the hangar with a cup of coffee in his hand. "Hey! It's the fourth graders!" he greeted. "And their teacher who I heard so much about when I was deployed with Lieutenant Bradshaw."
"Did he now?" you asked softly as Bradley gestured for everyone to move in a little closer to Marty's tarp. The mechanic was showing the kids where they could sit on the floor while he grabbed some folding chairs for the chaperones, but Bradley discreetly wrapped his fingers around your hand to keep you next to him.
"Come on, Gorgeous," he whispered, keeping his eyes on Marty as he leaned a little closer to you. "I was smitten with you right away, and I was very lonely. That man heard more than his fair share about my crush on the fourth grade teacher from Mira Mesa Elementary School, that's for certain."
You let your fingers tangle with his as you said, "You're too charming for your own good."
---------------------------
Other than Marty talking his way through the repair he was working on, you could have heard a pin drop. Your students were sitting with rapt attention, and so were the chaperones. You were standing a little bit off to the side, trying to hold Bradley's hand without anyone noticing, but you were pretty sure Captain Mitchell was onto you.
"Who wants to feel how heavy the crankshaft is?" Marty asked before he started passing it around to your excited students.
"Mine's heavier," Bradley whispered next to your ear, and you tried to fight the smile that threatened your lips. "But you already know that."
You elbowed him in the side as you watched everyone around you having the time of their life. Marty let everyone try their hand at tightening a bolt to Naval standards, then he laughed and pulled out a hydraulic machine to take care of it. Once the engine components were all in place, he let your kids try to pick it up before he informed them that everything put together weighed over five hundred pounds. He lifted the engine using a huge hook while everyone cheered like he was performing a magic trick, and then he posed for a photo with everyone.
"I can't thank you enough," you told him, shaking his dirty hand after he tried to wipe it on his jumpsuit. "My kids were just as excited to meet you today as they were to see all the jets. You're a bit of a celebrity in my classroom."
The older man blushed and smiled down at the tarp at his feet. "Well, ma'am, that's just the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me."
You hadn't even mentioned it to Bradley let, but as you released Marty's hand, you asked, "Is there any chance you would consider visiting my school for career day to give a five to ten minute presentation?"
"Oh," he grunted, his blush deepening. "The stuff I do isn't as interesting as the aviators."
"It is," you insisted. "My kids were hanging on your every word. I could pass the information to you through Lieutenant Bradshaw?"
He kind of shrugged and grinned at you. "I'll think about it."
When you nodded and turned away from him, you found that Bradley had lined your class up again, and then he started leading them to the cafeteria for lunch. "I need you to help me make a definitive ranking of all the menu options," he told them. "This is some very scientific stuff."
"Is there meatloaf?" Nia asked.
"Every day," Bradley promised.
"What about the cabbage rolls that you said were yucky?" said Oliver as he bounced along.
"Only on the aircraft carriers," Bradley informed him. "You all lucked out on that one."
He had each of you scan into the cafeteria with your visitor's badge, and then he nodded toward a long table with RESERVED signs on it. "Is that where we're all sitting?" you asked in surprise.
"Absolutely, Gorgeous. And you better sit by me."
He handed you a tray and pointed you toward the end of the line of officers getting their meals. "It's almost like a date, Lieutenant Bradshaw."
He smirked as he handed trays out to your kids. "They do have some Thai options on the menu. I will warn you and say the pasta is terrible compared to Salvatore's."
You were smiling nonstop as you selected a few different options, including some Thai curry, and made your way to the long table which was now lined with juice boxes and water bottles. Somehow Bradley thought of everything, and if he thought the last blowjob you gave him was a nice thank you, he was definitely in for another one.
When he slipped into the seat next to yours, he asked, "Do you think everyone is having a good time?"
"This is better than anything I could have imagined," you promised.
Soon your kids were all poking at and sampling the foods on their trays, calling out opinion after opinion as Bradley pulled a small notepad and pencil from his pocket. "Okay, okay. We all hate the baked ziti?" he asked, giving you side eye. "I told you the pasta was terrible." He made a note and said, "But we all like the meatloaf and the breaded chicken?"
"Yes!" shouted Jayden.
"The chicken is so good!" called Violet.
"So is the macaroni and cheese," said Oliver.
Bradley was actually taking real notes which made you want to push him down onto the table and climb on top.
"It's like you're really in the Navy now. You have opinions on the cafeteria food," he said with a salute. "Ready to earn your wings?"
Eighteen pairs of eyes went wide. "We get wings?" Henry asked Bradley, lunch completely forgotten.
"Only if you're brave enough to sit in the cockpit of my Super Hornet."
The table erupted in cheers.
---------------------------
"It's huge," you gasped. "It's so much bigger than I could have ever imagined."
Bradley led everyone outside to the tarmac near the hangar where his F/A-18 was parked with the ladder down. Natasha was sitting in the cockpit with Bradley's helmet in her hand, waving down at everyone.
"Why don't you go first and show everyone how it's done," he said, and you looked up at his smiling face.
"Alright," you agreed, still clearly surprised by the sheer size of the jet.
There was something about seeing a military aircraft in person for the first time that nothing could prepare you for. Some of the kids were looking at it with their mouths hanging open, and Violet looked like she was on the verge of happy tears.
With one hand in the middle of your back, Bradley helped you start to climb the ladder. The fantastic view of your ass was a perk, but he really was trying to make sure you got up safely. When you were standing on the last rung, Nat helped you climb inside, and she plopped his helmet on your head. It was comically large, and you were laughing as you waved down at everyone from the seat.
"This is incredible!" you shouted.
"You just earned yourself some wings," Bradley promised, and you pumped your fist in the air while the kids all cheered. He took his phone out to get a picture of you and Nat up there with his name on the side of the jet, and then it was time for you to climb back down. You probably didn't need the extra help, but his hands ended up on your hips anyway, and you looked back at him over your shoulder once you were on the ground.
"Thank you," came your breathless voice, and he had to remind himself that he was at work and not allowed to push you against the ladder and make out with you like he wanted to.
"Who's next?" he asked, prying his hands away from your body. The chaperones sent Jackie up to the ladder first, and Bradley held her hand until she was securely on the ladder. "Be careful on the rungs. Phoenix still slips on them all the time."
"I do not!" Nat called down from the cockpit. "I never slip on them, ever. But Rooster always does."
"You got me there, Phoenix," he said with a laugh as Jackie scaled her way up to the top.
Each kid got a turn. Oliver told him that his jet was probably fast enough to feel like you were slam dunking off the back of a dragon after all. And Violet looked at him as she climbed down and said, "I'm really sorry Lieutenant Bradshaw, but Phoenix might be even cooler than you."
He laughed as he said, "You're breaking my heart, kiddo," and she nodded somberly. "That's okay. I'd probably agree with you most days. Go line up with everyone else so you can get your wings."
Maverick and Nat helped you and Bradley pin some replica golden wings on each lanyard, and then Bradley pinned one on yours as you grinned. "What if I want to wear the real thing?" you whispered as the kids all gushed over their little treats.
Bradley glanced down at the insignia pins on his khaki uniform. "You want to wear my shirt around, Gorgeous?"
"Maybe," you told him softly, and he could already picture it.
His nostrils flared, taking in your sweet scent over the jet fuel. "You sleeping over tonight?"
"I don't see how I could possibly stay away after you gave us the perfect day."
He swallowed hard, once again wishing you just lived there with him. Then he wouldn't have to ask or invite or assume. He would just know you'd be with him after work. "Then I'll make sure my shirt is ready for you."
"Rooster."
Bradley released your lanyard and turned toward Maverick. "Sir?" he asked as Mav nodded toward the air traffic control tower.
"They're ready for us."
"Excellent," he replied as Nat folded up the ladder next to him. "We have one more thing for you to learn about. Naval aviation wouldn't be possible without skilled air traffic controllers making sure we have safe flight paths. If you promise to be quiet, we can all climb the tower stairs and listen in."
The kids were bouncing around excitedly again as Bradley and Maverick led the troops across the tarmac with you and Nat bringing up the rear this time. "You look like you're having as much fun as they are," Mav remarked.
"I think I might be," Bradley replied with a chuckle. "Their love of aviation is pretty infectious."
Mav was quiet for a beat before he said, "That's true. But there's something else." He glanced at Bradley over his sunglasses with a very serious look on his face. "You remind me of your dad today."
"I do?"
"Yeah. Absolutely," he promised. "And I think it's because the love of your life back there reminds me a bit of your mom."
Bradley stumbled, his boot skidding along the ground, but he managed to stay upright as Maverick reached for his bicep. "Really?" he asked his dad's best friend, voice hoarse as he thought about how his mom mourned his dad for the rest of her life.
"Yes. Make sure you treat her well."
------------------------------
The tower wasn't large, and all of you had to really cram in there. But as soon as your kids saw all of the instrumentation panels and the line of officers in uniforms wearing headsets, they started asking questions.
"Quiet," you reminded them. "We promised we would be very quiet."
Bradley squeezed through the group until he was facing everyone, and he waved so everyone's attention was on him. "We have two pilots who are out over the desert and in position for you to give them some flight commands. Their call signs are Coyote and Hangman, and each of you are about to be tasked with telling them how and where to fly."
You gasped, heart beating a little faster. "Is that safe?" you asked, looking from Bradley to Natasha.
"Well, it's just Coyote and Hangman, so if anything happens, it's not such a big deal," Natasha said, earning a bland look from Bradley while she laughed at her own joke.
"It's perfectly safe," Bradley said, holding up a stack of papers. "I'm going to have everyone read off of one of these sheets." He started handing them out to the kids. "Once Lieutenant Maxwell here gives us the go ahead, she's going to turn on the speakers so we can communicate with Coyote and Hangman without a headset. And that way everyone will be able to hear the transmissions. Sound good?"
It sounded too good to be true to you, but you nodded silently. A minute later, the woman sitting in the chair at the end, removed her headset and flicked some switches. "It's all yours, Lieutenant Bradshaw."
"Thank you, Lieutenant Maxwell." He raised his voice a little louder. Coyote. Hangman. Do you copy?"
"We hear you loud and clear, control," came a voice with a southern drawl.
"Copy," came a second man's voice. "Ready at the throttle."
Bradley pointed to the paper in Oliver's hand and nodded. "Go ahead and read it," he whispered.
Oliver cleared his throat and practically shouted, "Hangman, break right. Coyote, breach the hard deck."
"Copy tower," came the immediate response.
"See it on the screens?" Bradley asked, pointing to where there was some sort of radar output of the placement of two aircrafts dipping and diving. "Nia, your turn."
She read, "Hangman, bank down to five o'clock low," and sure enough, one of the jets changed position on the screen. The children were taking this entire mission very seriously, and you were almost shaking with excitement from everything that happened. This was literally the best field trip in the history of field trips.
Jayden was the last one to go, and after he shouted out the commands, he said, "Hangman is kind of a dumb call sign, isn't it?"
"I resent that!" drawled the first voice.
"I mean, it's just not as cool as Coyote," Jayden told him while Bradley stifled his laughter.
"He's not wrong," came the second voice. "Please tell your teacher you earned a bonus point for being so smart, courtesy of Coyote."
"Copy that!" you said, and Bradley handed the reigns back over to Lieutenant Maxwell. As quietly as could be expected, the group headed back down the stairs and onto the tarmac where apparently there was another surprise.
Bob was waiting with a crate full of noise canceling headphones. "Hangman and Coyote are on their way to land their jets on the runway!" he said, passing out the headphones to everyone. "With proper ear protection, we can stand here and watch them come in, but we need to keep our ears covered at all times."
The kids were all reaching for a pair, and Bradley walked around to adjust them and make sure they fit nice and snug. When he got to you, he took some extra time, letting his thumb tease your cheek before moving on. Bob stood ahead of everyone with a radio to his ear, then he turned and gave a thumbs up before stepping to the side and securing his own ear protection.
Off in the distance, you could see two dots rapidly growing in size, and even though you knew what was coming, you still jumped a bit at the noise they made as they screeched through the air and touched down on the runway. You were overwhelmed. Your heart was full. It was hard to believe that your aviation lessons in your classroom led all nineteen of you here.
You'd never be able to top this day for the rest of the school year, and you were okay with that. As long as Bradley would visit you again. And again. And again. If he hadn't already reached legend status, he definitely had after this, and you were certain an hour wouldn't go by for the foreseeable future where the kids weren't asking about him.
"Can I walk you all back to your bus?" he asked after collecting the headphones with Bob.
You let your knuckles bump against his. "Please do, Lieutenant Bradshaw. And on the way there, please tell us how we're your favorite field trip group of all time."
"I can do that with an abundance of detail."
------------------------
Legendary. I want to go on the same field trip a million times with Bradley as my tour guide. I've started to think about what I'm going to include in the rest of this fic, so let me know if there's something you're dying to read about these two! Thanks @beyondthesefourwalls

The Admirals Strike Back - Cyclone
Pairing: Beau "Cyclone" Simpson / Wife!Reader (Mitchell!Reader)
Word Count: 2.1 k
This work, all my works, and my entire blog are 18+ Only
Warnings: Consensual and Very Much Legal Age-Gap Relationship (About 15 years); Non-Traditional Father-Daughter Relationship (Between Maverick and Reader); Humor; Cyclone's a Grump; Maverick Becomes a Grump; Use of "You," No Y/N, No Physical Description; Named Simpson!OC Kids
Summary: Maverick knew that his somewhat estranged daughter was married. He just didn't know who she married.
Master List
There was one major rule in the Simpson household. Work ended at the door. The Navy was not allowed to step inside and into your relationship. If Beau needed to deal with the Navy on his personal time, he needed to go into his office.
But Beau was going to have to break that rule tonight.
Beau could hear the sounds of your daughters from down the hall as he walked into your house and felt some of the weight already melting off of his shoulders from his long day.
“Daddy!” Maggie, your eldest daughter, squealed, slipping down from her seat.
“Hi, sweetheart.”
Beau bent down and scooped her up into his arms with a bright smile on his face. Setting her on his hip, Beau pressed a kiss to her cheek and fixed the bow in her hair.
“How was your day at school?” Beau asked, walking slowly into the kitchen.
“I got a sticker for being a good line leader!” Maggie announced, causing Beau to smile proudly at her.
“Very good, sweetie. We’re so proud of you.”
“Mommy said that I could have ice cream,” Maggie stated, causing you to turn around from the sink.
“After you finish eating your vegetables, Mags.”
“That sounds fair to me,” Beau replied, setting Maggie back down in her seat. “And I’ll throw in some sprinkles if you finish that broccoli.”
“Promise?” Maggie asked, holding up her pinky finger.
“Promise,” Beau agreed, wrapping his far larger pinky around her own.
Moving onto your younger daughter, Beau clucked his tongue with fake disapproval, causing Parker to grin and giggle up at her dad.
“Ms. Parker, you have far too much tomato sauce on your face,” Beau stated, reaching over to grab a paper towel. Gently holding your daughter’s chin, Beau wiped the sauce off of your daughter’s face before planting a kiss on her chubby cheek. “Were you a good girl for Mommy?”
“Yup!” Parker returned quickly, wearing a mischievous grin that Beau knew was going to give him heart attacks in the future.
“Mostly,” you teased your youngest as you finished up with the dishes.
“Sorry I’m late,” Beau apologized to you, walking over to give you a quick peck in greeting.
“Well, after last night, I assumed that something big was going on,” you assured your husband, setting a plate into the dishwasher.
Beau had gotten a call right around bedtime last night and he didn’t come to bed until the early morning. And you knew what that meant. Something big was going down. And as the Air Boss, your husband was going to be heavily involved. Beau glanced over at your daughters, who were still eating their dinner, before turning back to you.
“You want to break the rule, don’t you?” you guessed, turning to face your husband.
“Am I allowed to break the rule?” Beau asked, causing you to smirk a bit.
“Permission granted, Admiral. Proceed,” you replied, drying off your hands.
“Well, we needed to call in a specialist for this particular event,” Beau started off, folding his arms across his chest. “And we called in someone a little . . . familiar to you.”
You frowned for a bit, your eyes darting back and forth as you ran through the short list of Navy personnel that you were ‘familiar’ with when it suddenly clicked. Setting down the dish towel, you turned to your husband with an incredulous look.
“Maverick?”
“Yes,” Beau confirmed, causing you to raise an eyebrow.
“I thought that he was taken off active-duty years ago,” you replied, causing Beau to nod.
“He was, but Iceman disagreed, and called him in.”
“Oh,” you mumbled, glancing over at the girls.
And how did you know Pete “Maverick” Mitchell? Well, you had technically known him your entire life.
Your mother and Pete Mitchell had a brief tryst that resulted in your existence. But Maverick was never very much around in your life, though you only found out recently, due to your mother’s actions. But after she passed away, you started digging to find out more about your father and reached out to Maverick.
Your relationship with your dad was very slow going. He didn’t even know that you were married to Beau. He knew that you were married with two little girls, but he didn’t know the name of your husband. He never asked. And you didn’t tell him.
“Did you want your whiskey then?” you joked quietly, spinning your wedding band around your finger.
“Not tonight,” Beau replied, straightening up. “We have an early morning tomorrow.” He took a step forward and gently took your hand into his own, rubbing your skin with his thumb. “And you’re alright? With him being in town?”
“Of course, I’m fine with that,” you returned, squeezing your husband’s hand. “I was just surprised.” Reaching up to grab your husband’s shoulders, you massaged his tense muscles. “And between the two of us, I think that you’re the one who’s less alright with him being in town.”
“I just need him to follow my orders,” Beau sighed, shaking his head.
“Oh,” you cooed, cupping your husband’s cheeks with your hands, “you’re definitely going to need some more whiskey. I’ll pick up some more tomorrow for you.”
Pressing a teasing kiss to his lips, you giggled when he pulled you in for more. And you were happy to return it, up until your daughter started screaming bloody murder.
“EW! Daddy! You have to put a dollar in the kissing jar!” Maggie yelled, pointing at the jar in the corner of the kitchen.
Similar to a swear jar, the kissing jar in your household was for when your daughters, mostly Maggie, thought that you and Beau were getting just a little too lovey dovey in front of them. The kissing jar money mostly went to ice cream or other desserts that you bought the girls, which only motivated them to call you and Beau out on it more.
“I will,” Beau promised, smiling over at Maggie. “Right after I give Mommy one last kiss.”
“That’s two dollars!” Maggie demanded as Beau pressed another kiss to your lips.
~~~~~
It was a few days after the mission and you waited with your two girls and the other families for the newly formed Dagger Squad to return to Miramar. Beau had called you yesterday from Hawaii, where the planes stopped to refuel and rest, before heading on to Miramar today. And right on time—which you expected nothing less from your husband—you spotted the planes in the distance.
Once they all landed and taxied off the runway and you were given the all clear from the grounds crew, you pointed your daughters in the direction of the plane that you knew Beau was on. Maggie took off running, already yelling for him, while Parker was happy to catch a ride from you.
“Come on, let’s go see Daddy,” you cooed to your youngest daughter before walking off.
“Who’s that woman?” Hangman wondered aloud, watching you walk across the tarmac.
“Out of your league,” Phoenix replied, not even having to glance up.
“Who do you think she’s here for?”
“Probably her spouse, judging by the toddler in her arms,” Bob added, sharing a look with his pilot.
“She’s probably . . .” Rooster trailed off, blinking with surprise at your appearance. Because you looked oddly familiar to the woman that Maverick showed him a picture of in the infirmary. Maverick mentioned that the woman was his daughter and that they were slowly reconnecting, but that they weren’t very close yet. “Holy shit. Who is she here for?”
“Did Hangman’s bullshit transfer that quickly to you? You were in his backseat for a couple of hours,” Phoenix scoffed, causing Rooster to shake his head.
“No, that’s Maverick’s daughter.”
“Maverick has a daughter?” Hangman asked, turning around.
“Yeah, one that he’s not really close with. So, who is she . . . you gotta be fucking kidding me.”
Maverick and Cyclone stepped off the plane side by side, chatting about what was to come in the next few days since Iceman’s replacement was not yet decided. But before Cyclone could get too wrapped up in the conversation, Warlock tapped Cyclone on the arm and gestured towards the hangar.
Cyclone turned and instantly smiled when he spotted Maggie running towards him, pumping her little arms to run as fast as she could. You trailed behind her with Parker on your hip, but you waved to him as soon as you locked eyes. Maverick followed Cyclone’s gaze, expecting the daughters that Cyclone mentioned very briefly in passing to be teenagers.
But when little six-year-old Maggie leapt into her dad’s waiting arms, Maverick was quietly surprised.
“You’re back!”
“I am back, yes,” Cyclone agreed, hugging his daughter to his chest. “Did you miss me?”
“Yeah, a lot! And Mommy was sad without you!”
“Well, she does like me just a little bit,” Cyclone joked, setting his daughter on his hip. “Were you a good girl for her?”
“Like I promised,” Maggie agreed, holding up her pinky finger. “Parker threw up though.”
“When?” Cyclone asked, instantly concerned.
“Mommy said that she ate too fast and then ran around too much,” Maggie replied, shrugging her shoulders. “It was a few days ago.”
“Daddy!” Parker yelled, causing Beau to look away from Maggie.
You set down a wiggling Parker onto the ground, letting her run the last of the way to her dad. And then you turned to face your own, who was staring at you in shock. You shot him a sheepish smile.
“Surprise,” you breathed out, waving to Maverick, who waved dumbly back.
Cyclone, meanwhile, picked up Parker and held both of his girls. Pressing a kiss to both of their cheeks, Cyclone walked over to you. Turning away from Maverick, you smiled up at your husband and gently cupped his cheeks to pull him in for a soft kiss.
“You’re finally home,” you sighed in relief, rubbing his cheeks with your thumb.
“We’re all home. In one piece,” Cyclone reported, causing you to let out a breath.
Pulling your husband in for another kiss, you wrapped your arms around your little family for a moment. In the background, Hondo slowly waved his hand in front of Maverick’s eyes, shocked himself at the turn of events, but far more amused than Maverick was about it. Pulling away from your husband, you turned to greet your dad.
“Hey, Mav,” you called softly, walking over to him. You gave him a quick hug and squeeze in greeting, all while waiting for his reaction to actually drop. “How are you?”
“Shocked,” Maverick replied, glancing between you and Cyclone. “You . . . he’s your husband?”
“For the past eight years,” Cyclone stated, adjusting his hold on your daughters.
“But . . .” Maverick blinked rapidly, turning back to you. “I mean, isn’t he a bit . . .”
“He is still your superior officer,” Cyclone reminded Maverick, causing you to shoot him the same look that you always did when he got a bit snappy during Navy social events.
“Yes, we’re aware that there’s an age gap between us,” you assured your dad, turning back to Maverick.
“How did the two you of you even meet?”
“Well, I had this ad up on a sugar baby website and—”
“—You know that I don’t like that joke,” Cyclone interjected, causing you to shoot him a playful smile while Maverick’s heart attack receded.
“We met at a wedding actually. Mutual friends. We sat next to each other at the same table and spent most of the night talking. I managed to convince him to dance and then we got together about two weeks after that.”
“Ten days,” Cyclone replied, pressing a kiss to Maggie’s head.
“And these are your daughters?” Maverick asked, looking over at your girls.
“Yes, this is Maggie. She’s six. And that’s Parker. She’s three,” you introduced, pointing out your daughters to Maverick.
“They’re beautiful,” Maverick commented, causing Cyclone to nod towards you.
“They get it from her.”
Maverick nodded in return and you and Cyclone excused yourselves, walking off to greet Warlock’s family. He blinked dumbly, still in disbelief that the fact that his daughter was married to someone like Cyclone of all people. Cyclone? Really? The man was an outstanding aviator, but he was probably at least fifteen years older than you and a stick in the mud.
Hondo’s barely contained laughter caused Maverick to turn towards the warrant officer.
“What?”
“Well, isn’t it ironic that for all the crap that they give you for running around with Penny, an admiral’s daughter, that your own daughter married an admiral? And Cyclone at that.”
“Shut up, Hondo,” Maverick sighed, causing Hondo to burst out laughing and nudge him in the arm.
Several Sentence Sunday
had idea for the scene in my Tommy feels fic so here it is (it's 2017 so Tommy only recently came out)
“You have a problem with us, young man?” the man asks him with a close to angry look in his eyes.
“I-I,” Tommy doesn’t know what to answer.
Yes, I have a problem with how freely you love each other because even after I came out and started dating openly over the last 6 months I still feel like a fraud. And like I don’t deserve it. Like I don’t deserve to be loved and love someone - that’s what he wants to say. He doesn’t.
“Mitchell, please, let’s get back to our table. I’m sure the young man was just sad that his date never showed up,” the other man puts his hand on his - Tommy suspects judging by similar rings - husband’s shoulder.
“He actually showed up. But it definitely was our first and last date,” Tommy says with a sad smile. “I-I just,” he exhales, and looks at similar kind looks on men’s faces now. “I admired, but also was jealous of the two of you. I was in the closet for years and only really started dating not long ago and it was a disaster. I want to find someone to be like the two of you.”
“Oh, son,” Mitchell says with a smile and gentle pat on his shoulder, “trust me, you don’t find love like that, you make it. Am I right Thomas?”
“Oh, absolutely.” Thomas smiles at him and then at Tommy, “I’m sure you will find someone you will love so much and really feel like you can make life with. Eventually. Don’t rush the universe, young man. It knows when to give it to you.”
“Yes. Concentrate on loving and accept yourself fully for now, son. Then, when you’re ready, that good man will be here and you two will build something special,” with last pat on his shoulder Mitchell leads Thomas back to their table and Tommy with the last look at their happiness, gets up and out of restaurant.
Love myself first? Ok, let’s try.
Tommy finds the number of his old therapist.
When Bradley keeps growing past the 6'5" limit of being a naval aviator Maverick lets out an internal sigh of relief. He's not going to be the one responsible for stopping Bradley from becoming a pilot.
Of course he thinks too soon because Bradley ends up falling in love with sky diving (an 18th birthday gift from Mav), and okay, that's a calculated risk. Mav indulges it. He understands that need to be risky although Mav can never understand why he'd want to jump out of a perfectly functioning plane. The fact Bradley has a bunch of honorary uncles who are all pilots means getting someone to fly him up for jumps is easy. He gets his licence before his 19th birthday.
He goes to college, studies, but he LIVES to jump out of planes. He works as a skydiving instructor and also does tandem dives with people - it pays good money.
He deliberately puts himself into spins and then recovers, over and over again. He makes YouTube instructional videos. He goes into spins when his parachute is deployed and has to do a release and use the reserve chute. He then collapses his chute only to extend it again. He's an adrenaline junky.
Over the next decade or so Bradley becomes an EXPERT in spin-recovery and ends up as a civilian contractor brought into train aviators on how to recover if they, or their parachute goes into a spin after an ejection.
Mav is a nervous wreck and Ice tells him he only has himself to blame.
(And can you imagine Bradley training Jake, Jake flirting (badly), and Bradley isn't impressed. His god father is Pete Maverick Mitchell, he has dinner with him and Admiral Kazansky at least once a week. Then Bradley decides to fuck with him. Tells him sure, he'll go on a date. And gives Jake an address to pick him up from. It's Ice's address... so Bradley pretends that Ice is his dad all the while Jake is pretty sure his life is now over.)
A conversation in the COMPACFLT’s office (circa 2022):
Maverick: “You wanted to see us, Admiral?”
(Followed inside by Phoenix and Rooster)
Iceman: “Not really, but it's the only way I can talk to you.”
Phoenix: “What is this about, sir?”
Iceman: “I'm glad you asked. I'm a very busy man, so I'll keep this short and sweet. Lieutenant Seresin dropped by earlier and had a little surprise for me: a request for an immediate transfer! Naturally, I assumed he wanted out because he wasn't leader on the last mission, but no that wasn't the reason. So I asked, ‘what is the reason?’ He said ‘I made a fool of myself and the whole base knows it.’ So I said ‘well, I don't know it!’ And he said, ‘I’m surprised Lieutenant Trace didn't tell you.’”
Phoenix: “What?”
Iceman: “So I said, ‘why are you dropping this in my lap? you should be talking to your commanding officer’. And he said, ‘Captain Mitchell hates me’.”
Maverick: “I don't hate him!”
Iceman: “So I said, ‘back up a bit, what is it you did that has everybody’s tongue wagging except mine?’ and he said, ‘I had an unhappy love affair’. So I said, ‘was it one of my pilots?’ and he said ‘Yes, it was YOUR SON!’.”
Rooster: “Oh no. Admiral — Ice, he's really upset.”
Iceman: “That’s what he said! He was so upset he's giving up on teaching at TOPGUN. I didn't even know he was going to teach at TOPGUN!”
Rooster: “He can't just give up.”
Iceman: “Well, here’s what we’re going to do!
You *points at Phoenix* stop talking about him!
You *points at Maverick* stop hating him!
And you *points at Rooster* stop dating him!”
Commander || Jake "Hangman" Seresin
Summary: Request - Did you see that pose about swim call in the Navy? Could you do a Hangman x Reader drabble while theyre deployed or something like that? super fluffy! You're so good at fluffy hangman haha. thanks!
A/N: Love a good Hangman fluff. Hope you enjoy reading! :)
Pairing: Jake "Hangman" Seresin x Y/N
Word Count: 3,200+
“It’s too hot. I can’t take it anymore. How much longer do we have of this?” Jake whined leaning on the railing that overlooked the Arabian Sea.
You stopped with him shrugging off your button-up uniform from your shoulders leaving you just in your tank top, “You complain a lot Lieutenant Seresin. Only a few more days. Think you can make it?” Tying the top around your waist you leaned forward mimicking him. You weren’t really supposed to be doing that with your uniform, but you really couldn’t seem to care. He was right after all. It was blisteringly hot. July in the Middle East was no joke. You knew the worst that could happen was a slap on the wrist, a small reprimand if you were to get caught.
Jake rolled his eyes only subtly hiding the smile that was dancing on his lips. Even you had to acknowledge how damn good he looked as the setting sun framed his face for golden hour flawlessly, “Just because you’re a Commander now doesn’t mean you get to bully me Y/N.”
You shrugged, “Actually, I think it does Hangman. It’s exactly what a Commander gets to do. Command.” Giggling you turned your body to him. It was always so easy to be yourself around him. You had run ins with Jake all throughout your Naval carrier. First as students in Top Gun then on missions as coworkers. The two of you always seemingly dancing the line between friends and more than but both too afraid to take that step over.
He huffed knowing you quite literally had him there. He thought he had you somewhere else though, the air, “Now that you’re a big bad Commander you’ll never see the inside of the cockpit again.” It was the only thing he had. He knew you loved flying more than anything in the world. But you were born to lead. Having an uncanny ability to predict enemy strategies and to form defenses and offensive strategies was your strong suit. Not many had that gift. The killer instinct as Admiral Kazansky always told you.
“You know that’s not true Jake. Did we not just get back from flying with Captain Mitchell?” Raising your eyebrow, you waited for his retort. It took him a second too long to respond though. You knew you’d managed to get the upper hand, for this conversation at least.
“Need I remind you where your callsign came from, Salsa?” You had to admire his ability to steer the conversation in the direction he wanted. You’d even compliment it if it didn’t annoy you too much. But this was Hangman we were talking about.
You continued to stare at him eyebrows raised, “No, Jake, I don’t need you to remind me.”
“Student Aviator Lacking Situational Awareness.” He smirked remembering the time your Captain at Top Gun unfortunately giving you the nickname. Brilliant in the air and on the books didn’t mean you were so graceful when it came to common sense. All too often you’d ask the most basic questions after solving the most complex problems. Earning you the call sign Salsa. You didn’t hate it. But you didn’t really love it either.
You laughed it off, “And who’s the Commander now Jake?”
He bowed his head chuckling right along with you, “Fair. But even you have to admit… it’s hot as hell out here.” Jake tossed you a fake pout changing the conversation yet again in the span of a few moments. You’d roll with it. That’s what’s always worked.
“You’re telling me! I’m from Ohio! I’m used to ninety-degree summers with moderate humidity, not this shit. You’re from Texas, you should be used to it!” Leaning on the railing you embraced the wind blowing off the carrier. It was hot but at least it was moving, not stagnant like it was on land.
“I haven’t really lived there in years though sweetheart.” He defended himself throwing out that damn word that made you literally weak at the knees. He had to have known what he was doing to you.
You’d always found the man handsome as hell. But his personality put you off all too often. However, the more you got to know him the more you found out the personality was all just a front. He was actually a good guy with a kind heart who had been burned far too many times. Living the life as a nomad made it hard to settle and it was his defense mechanism. Was it tiring? Beyond. Was it working? Jake thought so.
“Fair.” You mimicked him again. It wasn’t your fault he’d chosen such words to send your brain into overdrive.
You smiled taking in his features. He was truly such a handsome guy that made you feel very strong feelings. You knew it was him. It was always him. It was always going to be him, and you were quite frankly tired of pretending it wasn’t.
“That all you got to say darling?” He tapped his fingertips on the railing as he waited your response.
“Jake.” You sighed not having a clue what to do or to say. It was like you were actually short circuiting. You’d love to take a next step with him, but you were horrified of the consequences. Were you even allowed?
You’d worked so fucking hard to get promoted as fast as you did. You’d proven to countless commanders, captains, and admirals your capabilities in strategy as often as you could. You’d made fast friends with Pete Mitchell as he was one of your instructors when you went through Top Gun all those years ago. Apparently, that was his first and only year of teaching. In turn, Admiral Kazansky had taken a quick liking to you as he held Pete in such high regard. One thing led to another, and you’d been promoted through the ranks much faster than anticipated. But you earned it. Always proving you were ready for the next step. Was it worth it to risk all that hard work?
“Yes?” He continued that damn Jake Seresin smirk that he wore so well.
“I was going to tell you top secret information about what may or may not be occurring at 0100 tomorrow.” You sighed removing your arms from the guard rail pretending you were walking away, “Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to freshen up.”
“Woah there, Y/N! You didn’t say anything about top secret information.” He grabbed your arm lightly as if to let you know he’d drop it the second you asked him to. Of course, you never would, you loved his touch.
“I don’t think I should tell you. You’re being awfully mean to your commander.” You frowned playfully loving the game you were always playing with him. Things were only serious if they needed to be. Things were fun most of the time. Making it so damn easy to be your full and complete self around the man. You’d developed such a deep crush that bordered on love for the blonde-haired pilot.
“What would please my commander then?” He winked taking a step closer to you. Closing off any distance you’d had between the two of you. So much for the heat?
You smiled a wicked one towards Jake, “Grovel for my forgiveness.”
He couldn’t contain his laughter. The way his face lit up as he laughed, the way his eyes crinkled and the way his lips drew in. You were sure you could watch this over and over again. He was so beautiful to you. You joined in on the laughter not being able to continue whatever charade the two of you had gotten into at that moment.
“You’re awfully pretty when you laugh like that.” Jake spoke up after the shared laughter between the two of you had died down a little.
Biting your cheek, you couldn’t stop the instant reddening of your cheeks. Jake was always good for that. Making you blush like mad but then doing absolutely nothing about it, “Are you flirting with me Jake?”
He nodded his head confidently, “Always am Y/N. Always will.” Shooting you another wink he squeezed your arm once more before dropping his hand from it.
Shaking your head, you decided to finally answer his question, “The top-secret information might be that we’re having a swim call tomorrow. As long as the weather holds up.”
Grinning ear to ear he grasped your shoulders, “You’re being serious?”
“As a heart attack.” You nodded your head. You knew why he was so excited. It wasn’t that often that these came around. You had to be lucky to be given a swim call. Some sailors were luckier than others getting to have a swim call on a few deployments. Some were unlucky as they never got one.
It just so happened that Admiral Simpson was feeling particularly kind that afternoon at the senior staff was meeting. Another captain offered it up as a reward and he’d agreed. He decided on tomorrow since there were no scheduled missions or training flights. What better way to relieve stress? He knew this deployment was longer and a little more brutal with the heat. He needed to make sure everybody was still levelheaded. What better way to reward the crew?
“Oh, hell yeah! The guys are going to be so happy.” His grin stretched even further if that was possible.
“You’re sworn to secrecy.” You shook your head, “The admiral would like surprise everyone tomorrow.”
His grin turned down into a devious smirk, “And you told me Y/N?” You were really feeling the heat now. Especially when he was looking at you like that.
“Don’t let it get to your big ass head Seresin.” You smiled right on back to him. Just one of the many things he adored about you. Your ability to throw it right back at him. You never backed down from the challenge. Even when you were backed into a corner you would continue to fight. Your tenacity was like nothing he’d ever seen before. Apparently, the Navy agreed as you soared up the rankings. Jake was sure you’d be a captain within a few years. Then an admiral not long after that. You just had it. Few did. You did.
“You’d never let it get too large.” He dropped his hands from your shoulders. You were about to protest but he did something he’d never done before. Something that caught you so off guard you weren’t sure if your heard had stopped or not for second. He wrapped you up in a hug. Gently he squeezed you into his chest taking a few deep breaths before he continued.
“You know how much I like you right?” Jake whispered so close to your ear you could feel his warm breath as it fell down your neck. God, why did he have to do this to you now? It was already hard to come up with words and now? Now it felt like an impossible task. He was pulling out all of the stops to send your brain into overdrive. You’d probably forget even your own name if he asked.
“Sure.” You hadn’t a clue what he meant. Like you as a friend? Like you more than a friend? You prayed for the latter but who knew? It could be the former.
As he chuckled you could feel the vibrations as they reverberated off his body onto yours. You could surely get used to hugs like this. Where you were completely wrapped up in his embrace. Where you felt so utterly protected, “I like you, Y/N. Like like you.” He nodded while grinning after seeing your utterly shocked face.
Yeah, your heart definitely stopped as you processed his words. It’s like he read your mind. Like he knew you were too much of a chicken shit to question his words. You could stand up to admiral and politely tell him to fuck off, but this felt more than daunting to you. This was your life, and you didn’t want to fuck it up with him. You’d had so many chances, what if’s, run ins with each other over the years. Was it happening this time? Were your craziest dreams actually becoming a reality?
“Wait really?” Was all you managed to spit out as your brain went through every emotion. Every scenario to this confession.
“Yes, really. Have for years darling.” He broke apart from the embrace observing you carefully, “I’m tired of waiting on a right time. There’s never going to be a right time. Especially when you’re you. Getting promoted every other year and shit.” He grinned pulling you right back into his chest.
“Not every other year.” You shook your head hiding it away in embarrassment.
He couldn’t really believe his own eyes. You so effortlessly standing in his embrace seemingly accepting his admission. He was tired of dancing the fine line. He was ready. So more than ready to take a leap with you. He was tired of being labeled the playboy, the flirt, the no-good boyfriend. He knew he could be great for someone. For you. It was time.
“So was do you say sweetheart?”
You pulled away from him this time giving him a soft smile, “About?”
“A date. A real date when we get off this boat in a few days. How does that sound?” He grabbed a hand stroking his thumb along your fingertips softly.
Nodding your head softly, “That sounds perfect Jake.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah.” You squeezed his hand once more before beginning your exit, “Now go shower Lieutenant. No offense… but you smell.”
Shocked he strode forward towards you, “I smell? You’re getting it now. Time for a big hug.”
You giggled running from him, “Gotta catch me first!”
Shaking his head, he could only smile as you darted off towards your dorm. Oh, how he knew he’d fall in love with you quickly. He always knew he would once he let himself.
“Did you know about it Commander?” A woman you’d seen a few times around the carrier asked as you changed into your swimsuits.
“The swim call?” You played dumb. Of course, you knew what she was asking but it was much more fun to get hyped up about the whole thing over again. Morale was at a low point as the deployment neared its end. This was always the hardest time. When everybody just wanted to be home.
“Yeah.” She nodded while pulling a strap over her shoulder.
“Maybe a little. But Admiral Simpson just decided yesterday. Captain Flagstaff actually convinced him. It was a sight to see.” You smiled reminiscing on the friendly banter.
“It’s so cool that you’re a Commander and you’re like, our age.” Another girl spoke up from around the corner.
You smiled taking notice of her, “Right time, right place I suppose.”
“Bullshit.” The first girl laughed, “Your kind of a legend. What you and Mav pulled in Iran last year was insane!
You felt lucky to be alive. You probably shouldn’t be, but you never dwelled on it. You’d been given a chance and you ran with it. Ruthless and precise, never missing a beat. You were a commander after all, you had to prove your worth.
“Take calculated risks.” You offered up some advice for the young women who looked up to you. It was flattering albeit a little odd, “Now let’s go, we only get so much time in the water!” Grabbing a towel, you led the group out. You spotted Jake further off in the distance looking handsome as ever without a shirt on.
“Look at you.” You winked at him lowering your sunglasses. You’d always been overly flirty with the man but now? Now it meant something. Years of practice came in handy even as your nerves kicked it up a notch as his eyes traced your figure.
He shook his head, “You’re joking right? Look at you.” Throwing you a wink he desperately wanted to grab your hand, but he knew better. Not in front of all the Navy guys. It was probably already scandalous that the two of you were standing there alone.
“What? In this gorgeous Navy issued one piece?” You thought everybody looked fine in them. Not horrible not good. Just fine. But it definitely wasn’t flattering per say.
He shrugged, “You look good in everything sweetheart.” He whispered as a few people walked on by, “Always looking beautiful.”
“Hush, you’re making me blush.”
He laughed beginning to walk away, “That’s my job now darling. Now let’s go jump in the sea while we have the chance.”
“Lead the way.” You followed him towards the edge of the aircraft carrier. With a few railings removed you peered over the side letting people jump beside you. It was a long way down, but you’d done it before. Done it many times in training. Didn’t mean you necessarily enjoyed it though.
“Come on Y/L/N. Scared?” Jake threw you one last wink before jumping right off the side. He’d one upped you yet again. Dammit. You waited for the all clear before jumping right after him.
Resurfacing you quickly found the guy you were looking for smiling right at you only a little distance away. He certainly wasn’t being shy about it. The two of you had yet to really talk about what the other wanted but it felt right. It felt so right being around him. Like he was the other part of your magnet pulling you right into him.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” You asked once you reached him. Splashing him lightly. God the two of you were being so fucking obvious. But lucky for you nobody seemed to notice. Everybody too caught up in their own story, their own joy.
“I already told you. You’re so fucking pretty.”
“Don’t overdo it now Mr. Seresin.” You were smiling an unusual amount. You were usually so stoic and tight lipped. You weren’t doing your best hiding the new rush of emotions that were always sitting there waiting to burst right on open. Boy did they burst right on open the second Jake admitted that he actually liked you. You didn’t think you could hide the stupid little smile that didn’t want to drop.
“What? I can’t compliment my girl?” He gave you a devilish smile, knowing exactly what he was doing.
Your heart definitely skipped a beat in the water, “Is that what I am?” Raising an eyebrow your curiously looked at him as he pulled you in a little closer. You were sure it didn’t look good. Surely it looked suspicious.
“If that’s what you want to be. My girlfriend?”
You nodded, “I’d like that.” You whispered. God how you wanted to swim right over and kiss him. Why’d this have to happen in the middle of the swim call? Why not when you were on shore and could find a secluded spot away from the rest of the crew. There was one thing you were certain of. This’d be the most memorable swim call you’d ever have.
“Me too, sweetheart. Me too.” Giving your hand a squeeze, he made sure to keep an appropriate distance until you could get away on that date. It was hard but it was worth it. Anything was worth making you happy. Jake decided that then and there as he watched you smile swimming around in the sea.
Headcanon Series #16
Ice and Mav finally get their shit together after the Uranium mission. Don't ask me how, theories in the comments. Anyway, they kiss in public - on base or something, it looked very dramatic - they become a couple and the next morning Ice walks into the building he works in (enter important navy office) and half the officers he passes look very pissed at him, ready to bite his head off. Especially older ones he's known since the 90s or so. Most of them grumble some unfriendly sounding greetings into his direction. Some of the younger ones though smile at him with such happiness and sometimes clap his shoulder or congrate him, he can't really comprehend what's happening.
He shrugs it off and enters his office, only to find out his long time secretary and dear friend Mrs. Lesser is about to leave. For a vacation. She's never taken a vacation before. Sure, some free time over the holidays or when Ice took a break from work, but never longer than a couple days. Now she's gone for a few weeks.
The weird events continue when two hours later, a mad looking Admiral Hanson stands in his door and rants something about Tom being childish and stupid and how he could do such a thing. "Seriously, Tom. All those years and now you gotta pull a stunt like that? I thought better of you."
After the third officer passing his office and muttering something among the lines of "Really great, Kazansky," Tom calls for a meeting. He's the COMPACFLT after all. He outranks most people in the building. And this seems rather serious.
"Gentlemen, I am at loss for words. Your overall behaviour today has not only been out of line for work but also simply disrespectful. If this has anything to do with the events from yesterday, I can only say I am disappointed. We are professionals and the government, the state and the people depend on our work. We can't let something from any of our private lifes affect us like this. We're grown men and we should be able to handle such things like grown men. We can only function as a united front."
There's an audible huff at the other end of the table, coming from Admiral Marcus. "Easy to say for you, you got the guy you've been thirsting over for the last 40 years, I lost about 600$ because of you and Mitchell." Admiral James, who sits next to him elbows him. Tom's eyebrow start to wander. "How exactly do you loose 600$ because of me? Please, elaborate."
Opposite from Marcus and James, Admiral Cameron pulls a thick folder from under the table and slides it over to Tom. Whispers and even gasps erupt. "It's over, so he might as well know now."
Tom opens the folder and is greeted with a long list of people, dates that reach back to the 80's and huge amounts of cash written down. Between the pages are various copied documents of conversations between him and Mav, pictures of them together on various occasions and hand-scribbled notes with more dates and different statements on them. Tom's eyebrows almost disappear in his hairline. "What is this?", he quietly asks, afraid of an honest answer.
Cameron sighs and speaks up: "Some guys from your Topgun Class apparently started this in 86'. It was about when you and Mitchell would get your shit together and do something against that unresolved tension between the two of you. They expanded their list with every squadron you both were in because you guys weren't subtle at all but also extremly stupid and the rest got a kick out of betting who'd give in first and when this would happen. At the ceremony in the 00's, when you got your stars, an Admiral got a hold on the list and decided to join. He brought it over here and no-one couldn't really resist. And now we heard of you and Mitchell eventually putting an end to this. Of course people are pissed, they bet way to high on the wrong guy or year!"
Tom's eyes skim down the list. It seems like every person he's known inside the Navy has their name written down on the yellowing paper. He spots Mrs. Lesser on there and let's out a surprised chuckle. "Marywas really good. Got almost 3000$ out of this. No wonder she's on vacation." He drages his hand over his face to regain some grip on the situation.
"I can't even- how did you manage to hide this from me for so long?", is the only question he gets out. James laughs. "We're the military. We have our ways." By now the whole table is chuckling or whispering in amusement. Tom can only shake his head, but also smiles. "Can I take this home? I need this in a proper display on my office wall. Or maybe over the dinner table. And you are all invited to an apology-BBQ."
Okay, I know this was weird, but in my head I can see so many people in the Navy that just see Pete and Tom working together and they think like "Yeah, these two are totally gonna end up together." I love people shipping IceMav, I'm sorry.
The text from Beau was not the one you were expecting.
Admiral Jackass
"You've been called back." Sent Read 1:02pm
Admiral Jackass typing…
-
You're one stop away from making dreams happen again, you shiver with anticipation and take a deep breath, thinking back to your favorite group of students when they were younger.
At that point, it was within the early years of your teaching career.
After the class of 86' you didn't teach as often but when there was an important mission or the admiral's needed someone they knew could get the lieutenants properly trained, they called you.
You take a deep breath, walking down the hallway, realizing you've missed the feeling you (still) get walking down the halls towards your next group of lieutenants.
-
You walk down the pathway in between the desks much like you did when you taught his class.
Another reason for the text, he's late and Beau wants them to learn now.
You turn and eye each of the lieutenants, seeing who's confident and who's not. Something else you were known for, identifying the weak and making them stronger if they're up for it.
It was how you got him back when he lost his family.
They don't call you "Sly Fox" the Modifier for nothing (you wish your husband didn't get that started, it's stuck and you can't get rid of it).
The corner of your lips twitch, remembering more of your infamous class of 86' only because of the overly confident blond sitting in one of the first few seats.
You lean against the podium, clasping your hands together. "Who thinks they have what it takes for this mission?"
They start turning, glancing at one another.
"Do you?" You turn your attention onto the infamous Hangman.
He smirks, messing with his toothpick. "I don't think, I know I do."
"Cockiness gets you and your crew into some seedy situations."
"It get me out of them."
The door opens and your favorite captain enters.
You straighten your posture and turn back to him. "These people are you crew, you need to have their backs, or no one will have yours and you'll be alone."
He walks down the path you and uses the confidence you told him to.
The one you've claimed as "Mini Mav" turns, flipping his toothpick before sinking into his seat, followed by two others.
"It seems it's my time to leave." You throw a wink in Pete's direction before walking towards the opening.
You didn't see the way Bradley's eyes widened at the way you interact with him.
He has a vague memory of you hanging out with his family once or twice and calling his mom after losing his dad.
"Don't have too much fun, Mav." You pat his shoulder, "you've got a live one."
He furrows his brows.
You glance back at the class once more before deciding to take your leave. "Good to see you again, Bob."
He smiles and waves back at you.
-
Natasha turns to him with furrowed brows. "How do you know her?"
He shrugs, "she taught my first class a while back."
"She remembers your name?"
"And," he shrugs.
"You were so her favorite."
-
You make your way to the opening of the hanger and sigh, "I told you guys to- no, no."
You pinch the bridge of your nose and groan.
One of the technicians runs back into the hanger tripping over his feet.
-
You pull up beside him on one of the carts. "I told you not to run. I wasn't upset."
"I beg to differ ma'am."
You grab them by their collar. "I'm going to show you a thing or two. I was trying to help you."
You drive back out without looking back, already knowing that Beau is shaking his head while Pete and the class are trying not to laugh.
-
"Do you get it now?"
He nods. "That wasn't as complicated as I thought."
"Good, now do it again to this row." You can see the excitement fall from his face and can't help but chuckle.
"No, kid. She's just messing with you." You husband wraps an arm around your waist, pecking your cheek as he places his hat on your head. "Hey, sweetheart."
You smile and lean in for a kiss, having missed him with the grandkids out at school and spending more time with their friends since they're starting to get more freedom from their parents now that they've proven themselves responsible.
"Feels like I haven't seen you in forever."
He smiles, "feels like it's been forever."
"It has. What brought you out here?"
"A little birdie told me you might be maiming one of the techs."
You scoff, "as if."
You both turn to the technician and finding him staring at the two of you in awe. "Holy- Wolfman and Sly Fox are married?"
"Where have you been?" Leonard asks.
"Under a rock apparently."
You snort, covering your mouth. "Alright, we'll talk more later. Get to work before Cyclone comes for you."
"Yes, ma'am."
You two start walking away and head towards the hanger.
-
You glance at him through your lashes, grateful he put his hat on your head. "You're not gonna believe who's teaching and in his class."
He groans. "Don't tell me, Mav's here."
You nod. "Along with baby Goose."
"Nick's kid is here?"
You nod, pulling him behind you.
-
You both turn the corner, searching over the hanger for the one person you want him to see.
Pete turns to you and pauses, raising a brow.
You sheepishly smile and pull your husband away from the hanger.
-
"He looks just like him, don't you think?"
"Mustache and all. Damn."
"What?" You stare at him, watching him get dressed.
"Goose would have loved this."
The corner of your lips tugs upwards. "I know." A wishful sigh slips past your lips. "You'll never guess what I discovered in their class."
"What?" He asks with amusement.
"Don't be a smartass."
"Hey, you married me in spite of it."
"Yes, yes. Whatever. Mav has a mini Maverick."
"Mav produced?"
You scoff, "no but there's a kid just like him."
"That's less fun than him teaching his own kid."
"He's got baby Goose for that."
"True." He closes the locker, "you ready?"
You all but run into his arms, letting his arm rest over your shoulders. "Take me home, honey."
"As long as you'll have me."
The Sibling Connection
Summary: Now 23 and 38 the Bradshaw siblings come back to Miramar and see an old face. Feelings come up and surprises are revealed.
Pairings: Bradley Bradshaw x Sister!Reader
Warnings: angst, fluff, swearing, very inaccurate military talk, and timing
Masterlist
First Installment- Brotherly Love
Second Installment- The Sibling Connection
A/N: Italics mean that they are up in the air or getting ready to be up in the air.
Y/N wasn't at The Hard Deck when her brother arrived; this is due to her being fresh out of flight school and now officially a pilot. She had just been at her base in Fallon, Nevada for 3 days when she was told she would be helping out at Top Gun for a secret mission. She exceeded all of her training but then again what do you expect when you have an uncle that is the Commander of the US Pacific Fleet and taught you everything to know about flying?
When Y/N turned 18 she applied to the Naval Academy but first talked with her brother about it. He wanted her to chase her dreams and so he helped her even though he didn't get in, he wasn't gonna hold her back like Maverick did to him. He supported her the entire time. She kept him updated with everything and also Maverick too but it was mostly about her and not Bradley, per his request, and she respected that. When she told Bradley that she wanted to fly he was ecstatic, when she told him she wanted to fly the F-35B he was a little disappointed it wasn't a F/A-18E Super Hornet but didn't make her switch, they even joke about it and play fight.
The next day when everyone showed up to class, Bradley looked around for his sister but she wasn't there and he frowned slightly. He really didn't pay attention to what was going on but he was listening.
"Attention on deck!" Someone said and everyone scooted their chairs back and stood at attention as Warlock and Cyclone.
"Morning." Warlock said and everyone sat down "Welcome to your special training detachment. Be seated. I’m Admiral Bates, NAWDC commander. You’re all top gun graduates. The elite. The best of the best. That was yesterday. The enemy’s new fifth-generation fighter has leveled the playing field. Details are few, but you can be sure we no longer possess the technological advantage. Success, now more than ever, comes down to the man or woman in the box. Half of you will make the cut. One of you will be named mission leader. The other half will remain in reserve. Your instructor is a top gun graduate with real-world experience in every mission aspect you will be expected to master. His exploits are legendary. And he’s considered to be one of the finest pilots this program has ever produced. What he has to teach you may very well mean the difference between life and death. I give you Captain Pete Mitchell. Call sign: “Maverick.” Warlock finished as Maverick walked up the aisle and Bradley's frown deepened.
"Good morning. The f-18 natops. It contains everything they want you to know about your aircraft. I’m assuming you know the book inside and out." Maverick said Bradley was listening but wasn't happy about Maverick teaching him. Oh how he wished his sister would show up.
"Damn right." Jake said and another person said "Damn straight."
"You got it. So does your enemy." Maverick said threw the book into the trash.
"And we’re off." Warlock said
"But what the enemy doesn’t know is your limits. I intend to find them, test them, and push beyond. Today we’ll start with what you only think you know. You show me what you’re made of." Maverick continued "Before we continue Cyclone has something he wants to add." He said and took a step away and to the side as Cyclone walked up.
"Since this mission is dangerous and high stakes, we are bringing in another pilot. She will be flying the F-35 but will not be running the mission with you but will be training with you. She will be back up in the skies only and will take off with everyone else. She will assist if she needs to." Cyclone said and Bradley could feel his smirk, mood lightening, and sitting up straighter. "She has exceeded her training and has graduated early from pilot training and is now a stealth pilot. Everyone, I would like you to meet Lieutenant Y/N Bradshaw. Call sign: Sparhawk." Cyclone said as you reached the front and turned. You smiled and waved at the rest and then your eyes turned onto Bradley who had a smirk on his face and you smiled back at him.
Everyone was dismissed. Y/N was already out by her F-35. She would be going up with every hop to pose as another enemy along with Maverick. She saw Bradley get stopped by Maverick but wasn't able to hear anything. Bradley walked away from Maverick and came up to her.
"Took you long enough." He said playfully and she laughed and smiled.
"I wanted it to be a surprise." She told him which is true he knew she was coming but just not when. He smiled and shook his head.
"You haven't changed one-bit little sis." Bradley said.
"I haven't but you have." She shot back she missed the playful banter. He just smirked.
"If you need anything. Let me know." He told her and she nodded her head.
"You got it, bro. Be safe up there." She said and turned to get up in her jet.
"You too sis." He replied and headed to his own jet.
◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇
The training was going well. Each hop was different from the last since each pilot had different flying skills. Y/N stayed unseen which was doable since she had a jet that was almost completely invisible from radar. There were a few times that she had freaked out the others by flying right next to them and they didn't even know. She especially liked to freak out Jake.
It had been when Jake, Natasha, and Bob were up for one of the hops. Jake was looking over at the other two and that's when Y/N silently flew up next to him. Both Natasha and Bob were smirking.
"What are the two of you smirking at?" Jake asked and they said nothing but Y/N's voice came into the comms.
"Why don't you look to your left, Bagman." She said with a smirk on her face and you could hear it. He looked to his left and saw her there and he jerked his jet to the right and almost hit Natasha and Bob but he corrected it before he crashed.
"Geez, Spawhawk. Where did you come from?" He asked, "You almost gave me a heart attack." He continued and she laughed.
"I've been here for at least 10 minutes." She said with a smirk on her face.
"Warning next time would be nice." He said and she laughed.
"That would beat the purpose of it being a stealth jet." She responded back with sass. They didn't get to speak much longer because Maverick's voice came on the comms.
"Ok enough chit chatting. Sparhawk, time to start." Maverick said and she nodded even though he couldn't see it.
"You got it Mav." She said and dropped her speed and seamlessly disappeared but in reality she just dropped down below the other jets and let them speed past her. She flew to Mav and settled right next to him. They decided to make the others sweat and they switched to private communication.
"So an F-35?" Maverick asked her and she smiled though he couldn't see it.
"Yea I figured it would be a nice change of pace and I like stealth." She said and he laughed.
"You sure do. Are you ready to take them down?" He asked her.
"Absolutely." She replied and off they went. Mav was the distraction while she stealthy came up behind them and toned them. This went on for several hops.
Bradley was the toughest but eventually he was toned too. When Coyote went into g-loc she thought she was going to have a heart attack along with the bird strike, but in the end everyone was ok.
◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇
Not much time was given to hang out except when Maverick made time for dogfight football. It was wild and Y/N loved it. She always had a competitive side with Bradley and just in general. Getting to hang out with hot sweaty, shirtless, muscled, 6-pack abs, and sun-kissed skin guys wasn't bad either.
After Y/N and her team won against Bradley they all sat down to cool off and some even went into the ocean. Bradley came over to her and threw an arm around her and she made a face.
"Bro you're sweaty. Get off of me." She said and pushed him away and he laughed.
"Look who's talking. You're just about as sweaty as I am." He pushed her back and smiled. They eventually stopped and talked until the sun went down and they headed home. What they didn't know was that Maverick was several feet back watching them smiling. He was glad Y/N stayed in touch and sad that Bradley didn't. He was surprised that she went into the Navy but couldn't blame her.
Everyone left the beach and headed home to continue the next day. Then they were off to do the mission and come home, safely.
◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇
The time has come for the mission. Everyone was nervous but ready for it. Maverick picked his team and Y/N was shocked when Bradley's name was called and her stomach dropped. She already knew she would be going but she feared for her brother. They all started to go out towards their jets when Cyclone stopped her.
"Lt. Bradshaw, stay back for a few seconds." She stopped and turned to look at him as the other left and Bradley gave her a questioning look. He also stopped Maverick before he left "Captain Mitchell a word." He said as he was getting ready to leave.
"What can we do for you?" Maverick asked and then Warlock walked up to them.
"We have decided to send Lt. Bradshaw out before the Daggers." Both Maverick and Y/N were shocked, this was not the plan.
"Captain Mitchell, you will still be leading the Daggers. Once everyone gets to the opening of the mountain, Lt. Bradshaw will drop out and do air control." They both were silent as Warlock spoke about the change of plans.
"Understood." Both of them said.
"Dismissed." Cyclone said and both Cyclone and Warlock walked out of the room followed by Maverick and Y/N, but not before looking at each other.
When they got to their jets and Maverick and Bradley talked, Bradley walked up to his sister. "What was that about?" He asked.
"You know I'm not allowed to say. It's just the plans have changed. You'll see once we get up in the air." She said and he nodded but he could tell that she was nervous, they could always tell when something was up with the other it was just the sibling connection they shared. The announcement came on telling them that they were ready to launch. They hugged each other. "I love you, big brother." She said and he hugged her tighter.
"I love you too little sis." He replied and then let go of her and they went and got in their jets getting ready to take off.
◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇
They had Y/N's jet taxi to the catapult and she could feel the eyes of her teammates on her. They would be asking questions later. "Safety Dagger up and ready." She said into her comms. They gave her the go and the shooter gave the command and she shot off the deck and into the sky. Once she was far enough away they gave the ok for the other Daggers. She could hear Maverick talking but wasn't paying attention. She was on the lookout for bandits but found none. She saw the missiles fly above her and once the opening of the canyon, she dropped down and let the now-in-formation Daggers go ahead of her. She broke right and went around the mountain monitoring the skies.
She was far enough away from the mountains but still close enough. As she was monitoring the skies she came across one of the bandits. "Safety Dagger this Comanche. You have a bandit at 3 o'clock." She looked at her radar and so behold there it was.
"Comanche, this is Safety Dagger. Copy that. Will not engage unless need to." She said into her comms.
"Copy that Safety Dagger." Comanche said. Everything was going smoothly until they spotted her and it was game on.
"Comanche bandit is engaging, Safety Dagger is responding." She said.
"Copy, Safety Dagger." They said to her, she dropped her speed and dropped altitude. She was trying to disappear from their radar and it was working.
She got behind them and got tone but she was still far enough away from them they couldn't see her. She got closer and they panicked and started to try to lose her. Each move they made she made. "Can't shake me. Our jets are practically the same." She said to herself. "Oh you're good but I'm better." She said and after a few minutes and a few missile shots and gunshots, she got the final tone and shot, taking them down. Her 1st confirmed kill. She still has a lot of ammo left. She had this feeling that something was right and boy was she right when she started to hear all the commotion going on and then Maverick went down and her heart dropped. She saw Natasha, Bob, Mickey, and Javy emerge but not Bradley. She flew up beside them. "Where is my brother?" She asked any of them but they remained silent "Answer me." She almost growled.
"He went back for Mav." Bob finally said and boy was she angry. She quickly pulled her jet to the left and headed towards where they were last. When Cyclone came over the comms
"Safety Dagger, return to the ship." He said and she was pissed.
"What's the point of a Safety Dagger if it's not going to protect the fellow Daggers?" She replied and Cyclone knew she was right and she might be in trouble but be damn with it.
"Safety Dagger you are clear to proceed." Cyclone said and she nodded and proceeded to her brother. She flew around but couldn't see them. She practically growled. "Safety Dagger, report." He said.
"Plane wreckage but not shoots or bodies." She said looking through the bottom of the plane thanks to her extremely up to date technology helmet. She then saw an F-14 on the runway and knew it was them but didn't say anything. She didn't want to alert the enemies.
The F-14 took off and was in the sky. Once far enough away from the base she flew up beside them scaring the crap out of them. But once they saw she was friendly they were relieved. "Thought I would never see you again boys." She said into the comms. Bradley laughed.
"What made you come looking for us?" He asked.
"Let's call it the sibling connection kicked in. I knew that you were still alive and I wasn't about to not help." She said to her brother and pseudo father.
"Well, I'm glad it's still working. Let's go home." He said and that is exactly what they did but not before running into several bandits. They put up a good fight. Y/N could give them that but she had a jet of the same technology as them. She broke away from them and took off after the 3rd bandit and they watched her in a dogfight, and they were impressed, while they were fighting off on their own. They quickly got rid of their first one and they watched her take down the 3rd one, which was behind her but she shot a missile and it shot out but it went up and behind her hitting the 3rd bandit, they were impressed, confirming her 2nd kill. The second bandit was now chasing Maverick and Bradley through the canyon but she had another problem, a 4th bandit showed up and she was in another dogfight.
Y/N and the 4th bandit were chasing each other just as soon as she took down the bandit, Bradley and Maverick came back without the bandit and knew they would be ok. The 4th bandit was her 3rd confirmed kill. A 5th bandit showed up and Maverick and Bradley were out of ammo she put up a fight for them as they tried to invade and damaged the bandit but soon ran out of ammo.
Just as soon as they thought they were done for the plane that was in front of them but now behind them, after turning avoiding gunshots, them blew up and Jake came out of the smoke. "Good afternoon, ladies and gentleman, this is your savior speaking. Please fasten your seat belts, return the tray tables to their locked an upright positions and prepare for landing." Jakes voice came through the comms.
'Hangman , you're looking good." Bradley said
"I am good, Rooster. I'm very good." Jake said to him being the cocky son of a bitch that he was. They all headed back to the ship, first Jake then Y/N, and then finally Maverick and Bradley. Once Bradley and Maverick crashed landed they got out of the plane and everyone cheered.
◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇
Once they debriefed and got onto solid ground everyone gathered at The Hard Deck, except Cyclone, Warlock, and Maverick. They all chatted about and making plans for their well deserved team when Y/N silently slipped out on to the deck and looked out over to the ocean. Her brother noticed the absence of his sister and went out to her. He slung an arm around her shoulders and she leaned into his embrace. "Warlock tells me that you have now 3 confirmed kills." and she smiled and nodded.
"That would be correct." She said and he smiled.
"I'm proud of you. I know it was hard to take a life. Mom, Dad, and Uncle Ice would be so proud of you too." He said a laid a kiss to her hair. They heard the others cheering but didn't pay attention to it they were enjoying their sibling time together.
"You're right it wasn't easy but it was necessary." She said. Maverick walked out onto the deck and joined them smiling at them before walking up beside them.
"You missed the announcement." He told them. Bradley and Maverick were working on their relationship it would take time to heal but it was going in the right direction. They both looked at him.
"Oh?" Y/N asked as Bradley spoke up. "What's that?" Bradley asked at the same time.
"Yes. I just got out of a meeting with Cyclone and Warlock. They have decided to make this squad a permanent one. He also said that Y/N will also train and learn to fly the F/A-18E Super Hornet." Maverick said to the both and they all smiled. No words were needed. They all looked out into the ocean and setting sun.
Bradley hugged his little sister tighter and dropped another kiss to her head. Y/N leaned further into her brother enjoying the warmth from him and the familiar scent that she had grown up with. Maverick looked out into the sunset just thinking that Goose and Carole were up there smiling and begin glad that they had him in their life, even though there was rough patches. Occasionally Maverick would look at them and smile. He was glad they were together again and they were safe.
Bradley and Y/N truly did share the sibling connection. Now they don't have to be away from each other. Now Bradley could protect his little sister from guys, especially guys like Jake and Jake. Y/N had her big brother and pseudo father right there when she needed someone to go to when things get rough. The family was back together again.
THE LAST KINGDOM BADDIES
I don't care to check how long it's been since I made one of my lists, but I'm back at it... at least for this one. Since you may be unfamiliar or new to my little lists of happiness. I make lists of people, actors, and/or characters I admire, appreciate, love, or of those whom I am compulsively and obsessively infatuated with.
✨️welcome to my lil delulu world✨️
TLK has been one of, if not, my favourite shows since it first graced us with its presence. If you're as big of a fan as me, I hope you enjoy my little listy-list. All the love to these characters and the amazing actors who brought them to life.
***The following 10 men, or rather characters, were selected randomly from a plethora of contenders, and are presented in no particular order.
Masterlist
1. Leofric (Adrian Bower).
This man deserved the absolute best in this world and recieved non of it.
2. Ragnar (Tobias Santelmann).
I'd give Baby Ragnar as many little baby Ragnar's as he wanted if it meant I could get a hug whenever I wanted one. He looks like he gives good hugs.
3. Erik (Christian Hillborg).
Erik is the cutest of the cutest little cuties in the cutesy world of the cutest cuties.
4. Aldhelm (James Northcote).
I somehow went for loathing this man to absolutely loving him.
5. Uhtred (Alexander Dreymon).
This horses ass has lived rent free in my heart since 2015.
6. Sigtryrgrr (Eysteinn Sigurðarson).
I'm just going to say... I'm a slut for this man.
7. Sihtric (Arnas Fedaravicius).
If we forget about the ridiculous hair cut this mans had, we can appreciate how adorable he is.
8. Finan (Mark Rowley).
I have the sickness. The sickness of heart wrenching love for this man.
9. Alfred (David Dawson).
He may be Alfred the Great, but he's a real pious pain in the ass.
10. Osferth (Ewan Mitchell).
Baby Monk is the keeper of my heart.
What are your thoughts?? Should someone else have made the list? I just love and appreciate them all sooooo much :)
Master List
Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Epilogue
Rooster walked out of the admiral’s office with his new orders clutched carefully in his hand. He kept his head held high as he walked through the narrow halls of the USS Gerald R. Ford, heading for his quarters to pack his bag and prepare to fly back to US soil. To Top Gun. To Miramar.
The Californian town had a lot of memories—some of the best and some of the worst of his life. It was the town where he lost his dad before he truly understood the gravity of it all. It was also the town where he spent his later years of high school after his mom died. Where he learned how to drive, where he graduated high school, where he had all of his firsts with a girl—now woman—whom he hadn’t seen since he stormed out of her life.
Cora Mitchell. Maverick’s daughter.
As a result of some poor decisions at nineteen, Maverick ended up with daughter only a few months younger than Bradley. Cora’s mom wanted nothing to do with her and even though Maverick was far from fit to be a father, he would have preferred falling down 100 flights of stairs than letting his child go into foster care.
Carole quickly offered to help raise Cora and help Maverick out. And as his mom used to call them, they were built in best friends. And in the later years of high school, they were a lot more than that. Sneaking into each other’s beds and spending the nights together was fairly regular and easy for them to pull off with Maverick’s bedroom on another floor.
Of course, then Maverick pulled his papers and then he left that life, and Cora, behind completely.
Rooster entered his room and shut the door behind him, heading for his bunk. His roommate wasn’t in, still doing drills with the rest of their squad, leaving Rooster alone with his thoughts. He opened the folder again, reading over the orders once more before he found his gaze shifting. Pulling out his personal bag, Rooster reached into one of the smaller pockets and pulled out a small photo preserved in laminate.
It was from a photo booth at Bradley’s senior prom. Cora sat on his lap, beaming at the camera as Rooster pressed a kiss to her cheek.
It was stupid to still be this curious about what Cora was doing with her life. After all, he was the one who broke up with her and stormed out of her life, saying all kinds of nasty things that he regretted the second that he said them. And he had to admit that he had scrolled through social media, trying to find a glimpse into her life, to no significant results.
All he knew was that she took some time off after high school and eventually graduated from nursing school. He assumed that she was still working as a nurse. And he knew that she now lived in or around Miramar. He didn’t have the guts to try and contact her when he was in town for Top Gun the first time around.
But maybe this new, and probably highly dangerous, mission would finally give him the kick in the ass to try and make things right with Cora. Even if it was just a simple apology, like a small ‘sorry,’ it would take away some of the guilt that ate away at his stomach every single time that he remembered her crestfallen expression and calls for him to come back.
Tucking the photo back into his bag, Rooster stood up and started to pack, letting his mind wander to what Cora’s life looked like now.
~~~~~
“Nicholas Peter Mitchell!” Cora thundered, marching towards the stairs, still dressed in her scrubs from work. “Get your butt down here now!”
Cora was only partially pleased to hear her son scrambling around, undoubtedly in the middle of some kind of panic due to her tone. She tapped her foot, able to picture her son’s exact expression of fear. She would have preferred that he simply told her ahead of time because then they could deal with it together, but he forced her hand by hiding it.
The sound of a door opening and a soft pattern of footsteps caused Cora to pick her head up. Her eyes narrowed when her son, Nickie, poked his head out from behind the wall with a sheepish smile. She shook her head when his expression gave away the fact that he knew exactly why she was upset. And that only caused her migraine to intensify.
“Hey, Mom. Did you have a good shift?” Nickie asked kindly, stepping out from behind the wall. “And did I mention that I love you and that you look more beautiful than usual today?”
Nickie, or simply Nick to his friends, was far from her twin. His hair was a light brown and curled at the end. His eyes were big and light brown, like someone she knew well in the past. The shape of his head and his cheekbones that were starting to emerge from the baby fat came from her side of the family, but the slope of his nose reinforced his father’s influence on his features.
But his sheepish, mischievous smile was definitely a Mitchell trait. Undoubtedly.
“When were you going to tell me that you got a speeding ticket?” Cora questioned, eerily calm despite her earlier yelling. “Today? Tomorrow? Next week? Never?”
“Mom, I already paid it off—”
“—When were you going to tell me?” Cora demanded, not amused. When Nickie fumbled for a response, Cora straightened up. “You have had your license for a month and you’ve already gotten a speeding ticket, Nickie. That’s not funny. You clearly do not understand that your car and your license are privileges, not rights.”
“It was at that speed trap under that highway pass on the way to school,” Nickie tried to explain, but Cora was not going to give him an inch of the moral high ground.
“I do not care where you got the ticket. I care that you were reckless behind the wheel of a motor vehicle. I care that you got a speeding ticket and now it’s on your record. And I care that you hid this whole thing from me.” Cora sighed, placing her hands on her hips and shaking her head at her son. “How much was it, Nickie?”
“Thirty bucks,” Nickie replied quietly.
“Well, then I think that thirty is an appropriate number of days to not need your car. And a good number of days to think about the importance of following traffic laws,” Cora stated, folding her arms over her chest. “Where are your keys?”
Nickie sighed and walked downstairs to grab his keys from the countertop. He quickly returned to his mother’s side and placed them into her open hand without a fight. Cora closed her hand and shoved the keys into her pocket.
“I’m serious, Nickie,” she stated softly, causing the teenager to turn back to her with doe eyes. “I don’t want you getting hurt. And speeding around, especially on these roads where there’s a thousand pedestrians and everything—it’s not safe. For you or anyone else.”
“I know, Mom. I’m sorry.”
“Thank you for having the maturity to realize that it was your bill to pay,” Cora offered her son in return, her tough exterior cracking just a bit. She rubbed her face tiredly. “And that’s probably what I get for letting your grandfather teach you how to drive.” Letting out a sigh, Cora dropped her hand from her face and turned back to Nickie. “How’s your homework coming?”
“Mostly done. I’ve got a test tomorrow.”
“Good.” Cora set her purse and the mail down on the countertop. “I’ll get started on dinner after I take a shower. Work on your homework and I’ll call you when I’m done.”
Cora walked into her bedroom and made a beeline for her on suite bathroom. Throwing her scrubs into her specified scrubs laundry bin, Cora quickly washed up from a long day at work. She changed into some comfortable clothes and a Navy sweatshirt before heading to the kitchen to start on dinner. The sun started to set in the distance as Cora waited for the chicken to cook.
The distinct sound of a Kawasaki caused her to look up from the oven, frowning with surprise. Walking over to the front windows, Cora was shocked to see her dad pulling into the driveway.
“What the—” Cora walked over and opened the front door, stepping out onto her front porch. “Dad? What are you doing here?”
“I thought that I would drop by since I was in town,” Maverick replied, setting up his kickstand and getting off his bike.
“Why are you in town? Not that I’m not happy to see you,” Cora added on, walking down to greet him. Maverick picked up the bag that he strapped to the back of his bike and pulled his daughter into a hug. But when she felt him wince, she instantly pulled back with a sharp, knowing look. “What happened now? What did you do this time?”
“Is that dinner that I smell?” Maverick asked, redirecting the conversation.
“You’re not getting out of this conversation,” Cora warned him, turning for her home and pulling the door open. “How many times do I have to tell you that you’re not twenty anymore? And could you at least wear a helmet once in a while?”
“Mom, who are you talking to?” Nickie yelled from upstairs.
“Your grandfather decided to drop by. Randomly,” Cora called back to her son.
A second later, there were a set of rapid footsteps echoing down the hall before Nickie appeared at the top of the stairs. His grin was immediately wide, showing the likeness between him and his grandfather, before Nickie hurried down the rest of the stairs to greet his grandfather.
“What are you doing in town?” Nickie asked, jogging over to Maverick.
“Well, I thought that it was a good idea to visit my favorite kid and grandkid once in a while,” Maverick joked, pulling Nickie into a hug despite his aching ribs
“Pops, I’m your only grandkid,” Nickie pointed out, frowning slightly.
“Still counts.” Maverick stared up at Nickie, jokingly inspecting him. “Did you get taller since the last time that I saw you? You look taller.”
“Maybe you’re just shrinking,” Nickie quipped, causing Maverick to turn to Cora.
“Don’t look at me,” Cora replied, gesturing to her own short stature. “Nickie over here got about three generations worth of height.”
Or, rather, he just had other genes to pull from when it came to height. And the men on the other side of Nickie’s family were all at least six feet tall, like Nickie was quickly shaping up to be. But not a single Mitchell in that household was going to bring that up.
Once dinner was finished cooking, the three Mitchells set the table and sat around, chatting and catching up since the last time that Maverick was in Miramar.
“I thought that you said that you wouldn’t be done with that project for a while,” Nickie stated, turning to his grandfather.
“Well, plans change,” Maverick replied noncommittally, glancing down at his plate.
“Because they were actually changed or because you felt the need to change them?” Cora deadpanned, cutting into her chicken.
“There might have been some . . . minor scheduling changes.”
“So, you’re not just visiting then,” Cora deduced, reaching for her drink. How she wished that it was wine instead of water.
“How long are you in Miramar for then?” Nickie asked excitedly, reminding Maverick painfully so of Bradley as a teenager.
“A few weeks. Somewhere around a month.”
“For what?”
“That’s classified,” Maverick replied, causing Nickie and Cora to roll their eyes in seemingly practiced sync. “I’d tell you, but—”
“—But then you’d have to kill us, yeah, we know, Gramps.”
“How’s school then? Still swimming and everything?” Maverick asked Nickie, changing the subject.
“It’s good. Swim doesn’t start for a few more weeks, but I’m trying to train before it. But I think I’m going to have to focus on running.”
“Why? Something wrong with the car?” Maverick questioned, looking concerned.
“No, just the driver,” Cora replied, setting down her utensils. “Nickie got a speeding ticket.”
“How bad?” Maverick asked, earning a sharp look from Cora. “I mean, that’s bad, Nickie. Don’t do it again. You have to get a little bit more driving experience before you start speeding.”
Cora sighed, holding her head in her hand for a moment as Nickie hid a smile behind his mouth. Maverick shot Nickie a joking smile before straightening up in his seat.
“But you’re doing good in school, Nickie?”
“Pretty well. Pre-calc is kicking my butt, but I think it’s supposed to get better.”
“Well, don’t be afraid to enjoy your teenage years a bit. Don’t go rushing off to try and grow up before your time,” Maverick replied, glancing over at his daughter for a moment. “Besides, I thought that you were going to try out for the surf team.”
“They want me to,” Nickie agreed, taking a bite of his dinner. “Mom’s a little scared to let me do it.”
“I just think that baseball is safer,” Cora replied softly, reaching for her drink. “Besides, between swim and water polo, you’re going to turn into a prune, Nickie. Not to mention that you go out sailing with Penny and Amelia all the time.”
“I just like the water, Mom,” Nickie stated, missing the pained expression on Cora’s face. “And besides, the baseball coach is an asshole.”
“Language,” Cora stressed, causing Maverick to chuckle.
~~~~~
After dinner, Nickie excused himself to finish up his homework. Cora and Maverick worked together to clean up after dinner and to set up the spare room for Maverick to sleep in while he was in town. But after the finished up the housekeeping, the father and daughter sat out on the back porch. Cora poured herself a glass of wine for the conversation and brought Maverick a beer.
“So, why are you really in town?” Cora asked, sitting down.
“Ice called me in,” Maverick stated, causing Cora to grow more serious instantly. “It’s a mission.”
“And not just any mission . . . is it?” Cora questioned, though she already knew the answer.
Ice wouldn’t have called Maverick in for just your run of the mill mission. This was a serious mission, that was certain. And that instantly caused Cora’s blood pressure to spike in an instant. Ice wouldn’t have called Maverick in unless it was something bordering on a suicide mission.
“No, it’s not,” Maverick agreed, nodding solemnly.
He looked away from his daughter for a moment, a rock settling in his stomach. It had been sitting there since a familiar face flashed on the screen in that conference room. But he knew that he had to unload it sooner rather than later.
To say that Maverick’s perspective on Rooster was complicated did not quite do it justice.
On one hand, as Cora’s father and Nickie’s grandfather, there was nothing that Maverick wanted to do more than to grab Rooster by his ear and give him the lecture of the century about responsibility and putting his personal emotions to the side to be a man and a father. Hell, if it was any other boy who did that to Cora, Maverick would have strapped him to the outside of the Darkstar and done a couple laps around the Earth.
But, on the other, as Goose’s wingman and the man who tried to raise Rooster, Maverick wanted Rooster nowhere near Miramar or this mission. Hell, Maverick did what he could to make sure that Rooster stayed as far away from a cockpit as possible. And that side of Maverick just wanted Rooster back in his life, safe and far from danger.
But being Cora’s father and Nickie’s grandfather was always the side that won out in the end.
“There’s something else,” Maverick began, causing Cora’s eyebrows to furrow with concern. “He’s involved in the mission.” Cora noticeably tensed up as Maverick added, “He’s here.”
“In Miramar?” Cora asked quietly, earning a nod from her dad. Sighing, she held her head in her hands for a moment. “Fuck.”
“Did you tell Nickie—”
“—No,” Cora interjected, cutting Maverick off. “No, I didn’t.” Not . . . not the whole story." She stared out at the backyard, out at the little swing set that Maverick and Ice built for Nickie on a warm afternoon so many years ago. “He’s supposed to be out in the middle of the Atlantic right now.”
“And I’m supposed to be in the Mojave.”
Nickie sat with his back to the wall, silently listening in on his mom’s conversation with his grandfather. He knew that it was wrong and he knew that he was already on thin ice with the speeding ticket, but he knew that his mom and his grandfather went outside to talk where he couldn’t hear them. But his mom always seemed to forget that the bathroom window was right above the patio.
“Have you seen him yet?” Cora inquired quietly, causing Maverick to nod slowly.
“Yeah, I did. Briefly. At the Hard Deck.”
“Did he see you?”
“I don’t think so, no,” Maverick replied, shaking his head.
Cora let out another sigh and held her head in her hands again. Maverick quickly got up from his seat, setting aside his beer and pulling his daughter into a tight hug. Cora latched onto her dad, trying to calm herself down and not shed anymore tears over Bradley Bradshaw.
But she failed. Just like she did the last thousand times.
Nickie clenched his eyes shut and curled his hands into fists. His mom was the strongest person that he knew. Life threw a thousand things at her and she somehow always managed to keep herself and him on their feet. But the second that anyone brought up his dad, she always flipped a switch.
She always broke down or went into absolute survival mode until something else snapped her out of it.
Nickie stopped asking about his dad when he overheard his mom sobbing to Penny in the middle of the night about how his dad still wouldn’t return her calls. It happened years ago, nearly a decade now, but it was still fresh in his mind. Burned there for the rest of his life. And, well, if his dad couldn’t even give his mom three seconds of his life, then Nickie wouldn’t give him an ounce of energy either.
And, hell, Nickie was a mama’s boy. And anyone who made his mom cry was dead to him. Dad or not, the fucker who never showed up for him or his mom was dead to Nicholas Peter Mitchell.
Whoever the hell he was.
calloused hands in soft hands + Icemav
thank you for playing! :)
calloused hands in soft hands
“Hey there, sailor, has it been a long tour?”
Six and a half months.
That’s how long it’s been since the President overturned Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.
He is finally free to marry his partner, openly and within sight of their family, friends, and former flyboys.
“It’s worth it when the sea brings me back to you, lover,” Maverick replies with a lascivious grin.
Ice rolls his eyes, even as he stands to greet Mav. “I’ve changed my mind—the tides can have you. You’re terrible at this.”
“What, after all this time?” Maverick drops his pack in the foyer and winds his arms around Ice’s waist, sliding one of his hands into Ice’s back pocket. “When I can finally do this in public?”
“You know, you’re still technically not allowed to do that, I’m still a superior officer.”
“Yeah but—”
“Don’t even say it, Mitchell,” he cuts him off. “It’ll be cheesy and bad, and I’ll be looking to trade you in for the newer model by the end of the year if you do.”
“Trade me in?” Maverick asks incredulously. “After I finally got you house trained?”
“Got me house trained?”
“Breakfast for dinner is nice, dear, but it’s the only thing you can be relied upon to not burn when I ask you to cook,” Maverick replies.
“You’re just mad because the laundry always smells nicer when I do it no matter what you try.”
“And who was the one who had to stick his arm up the backside of the dryer because someone nearly set a lint fire?”
“There wouldn’t have been a fire, if you’d cleaned it out the first time like I asked—”
“You know you can go more than a week without washing your bedsheets, it’s not the end of the world—”
“—put a sticky note on the fridge and everything, reminded you before I left for D.C.—”
“—and if we’d switched to the other towels that don’t give off all that fluff, the lint wouldn’t have built up nearly as bad anyway—”
“—I told you, it was one list of things to do, a very simple list of three chores around the house, and you didn’t listen the first time or the second time, so third time’s the charm, right—”
“—and then you kept insisting we use dryer sheets when wool balls work just as well, better even—”
They cut themselves off and smile. Ice sticks out his hand, wiggling his fingers until Maverick takes it.
“So. It’s been a while since I last saw you.”
Maverick laces their fingers together. “Yup.”
“Seven months.”
“Seven months, two weeks, and three days. But who’s counting?”
“Did you see the news?”
“I’ve heard a thing or two.”
Ice squeezes Maverick’s hand. It’s scarred and calloused from all the maintenance he does around the house, on his bikes, and on the Mustang they still haven’t made airworthy again. There’s a bump right where the stick sits between his thumb and his forefinger after hours sitting in the box, first in a Tomcat and then in a Hornet, and soon, maybe, in one of those fifth-gen stealth planes that go five times faster than Ice ever did.
His own scars from his days in the sky have long since been traded in for hardened ridges where his pen rests, reams of forms to fill out and files to read. There’s no flying for admirals, Viper had once warned him. Flying’s like riding a bike, but the memory of it starts to fade from your body faster than it does your mind.
Between the two of them, Maverick is much more the image of a pilot than Ice is, in his tailored suits and stars.
He runs his fingers over the back of Mav’s hand and presses their palms together.
“What do you think?” he asks.
“Of what?”
“Now you’re just playing coy.”
“Well, Admiral Kazansky, if you’re asking little old me,” Maverick starts, “I think it’s about damn time.”
Ice grins. “See, I’d thought something of the same myself.” He reaches into his pocket and pulls out two wedding bands, made of newly minted gold.
“So, what do you think, Mitchell? Wanna get hitched?”
Maverick holds onto Ice’s hand tighter and drags him back towards the front door.
“Where are we going?”
“Where else do you think? We gotta go catch Slider before he gets too far from base and tell him to call up the boys, we’re getting married this weekend!”
send me a type of touch, a number, and a pairing!
Caring, Keeping and Collecting Transformers - A Guide 10/?
Maverick is unknowingly surrounded by Transformers. He knows something is up though. Just not quite what it is exactly.
Bradley and Jake, having never met, are embarking on their own journeys and will have to learn to deal with the fact that they've both been adopted by Transformers.
Despite having years more experience, Maverick is no help at all.
ONE TWO THREE FOUR FIVE SIX SEVEN EIGHT NINE
TEN
Jake is so glad that he’s not in any of this alone. Sure it was all exciting and new, but it has suddenly become very fucking real and he doesn’t like the looks that some of the brass are giving him, it makes his skin crawl and he edges closer to Bradley and Maverick just slightly, knowing that there is strength in numbers. The fact that he has somehow stumbled into this weird family and all these other Transformers gives him hope that he’s not going to suddenly mysteriously go missing, or die in action; leaving his parents left to wonder exactly what happened. Actually, thinking about his parents he should probably touch base with them, because sending messages aren’t going to cut it three days in a row, not when he’s on leave.
He focusses back in on the conversation and realizes that Admiral Cain is spitting mad about something, his face almost purple, and he can’t even tell if it’s something Maverick or Admiral Kazansky said, because Captain Mitchell is smirking and Admiral Kazansky is looking cooly impassive. Fuck Jake wants to be like them, either of them.
“We’re the same rank,” Cain spits out.
“And yet you’re not the one with a house or hangar filled with Transformers, so I think that gives us the edge regardless of rank, hmm?” Admiral Kazansky states calmly, and god the man must have balls of titanium. Jake had already admired the theoretical idea of Admiral Kazansky, his rise through the ranks and dedication to remaining an active pilot for as long as possible. Now though? Knowing he’s done it while also hiding his relationship with none other than Maverick Mitchell, and is clearly unafraid of standing up to the brass or his own peers. Jake will trust him and his leadership, and not only because he also suspects that his fatherly love of Bradley means that protection reaches and envelopes Jake by default. The wave of relief he’d had moments ago returns ten-fold.
“Stop being difficult Cain, or you can step back. Kazansky has a valid point. Now, let us go and meet these Transformers.”
They walk to the hangar where Bronco and Hound are, and he glances around at the other vehicles. None of them seem to also be Transformers, although he wouldn’t bet any money on the fact either way. Bronco and Hound are in their robot states, chatting what he assumes is meant to be quietly, although Hound doesn’t seem to have much of a volume control. He reminds Jake of his grandpa, with the hearing aids he forgets to turn on. There’s a general conversation about how everyone is travelling, until once again Cain looks horrified at the idea of travelling inside a Transformer. Bradley is clearly trying not to laugh outright, his face schooled, but Captain Mitchell clearly looks like he wishes he had Ninja to just jump on.
… … …
“No! I don’t want to travel inside it!”
“What’s wrong with going with me?” Hound asks, his weird moustache trembling and jangling, and he sounds insulted.
“I’ll go with Hound. You can drive Ice’s car. I mean Admiral Kazansky’s,” Mav amends and Bradley can tell he’s trying not to laugh outright.
“It’s definitely a car right?”
“As far as we can figure out. We can simply pop into existence though,” Bronco states, head tilted to one side and Bradley knows that’s a bunch of bullshit, at least he thinks it is. He has no idea about the procreative habits of Transformers. However Dustdrift had just confirmed that Ice’s car was a simply mundane vehicle j that morning, so he knows Bronco is just being a bit of a shit-stirrer. He can appreciate that, especially with regards to Admiral Cain so he simply nods and looks considering, like he knows exactly what Bronco is referring to.
Bronco and Hound both transform to the vehicle states and he doesn’t think he will ever get sick of seeing that. Because there are so many humans now they have to take some of the other staff vehicles, as well as Ice’s car. The Secretary of State with his own car and driver, has invited Ice and Mav to go with him, which leaves him with Bronco and a couple of admirals he doesn’t really know.
“I’ll drive lieutenant,” one of them says, holding his hand out for the keys and Bradley nods, sucks his lips into his mouth and knows this isn’t going to end well.
“Uh. That… Bronco can be a little… selective, sir,” Bradley states, trying to find a word that suits but also won’t insult Bronco. Because Bradley’s yelled a few choice words at him over the years. Then again, Bronco has thrown a fair few back, but usually through the music.
“What do you mean?”
“He doesn’t usually drive anywhere unless it’s me in the driver seat sir.”
“What? That’s ridiculous!”
“That may be the case sir, but it’s often just how it is. Bronco won’t even start for Mav, uh, Captain Mitchell. Sir.”
The man’s eyes narrow and Bradley shrugs helplessly, completely unsurprised when Bronco refuses to start. He’s not going to apologize, just gives a tight smile and accepts the keys back when they’re slapped into his hand with more force than necessary. He slides into the driver’s seat, doesn’t bother with the keys and just pats the dash a couple of times.
“Take us back to the hangar I guess buddy…”
“Country roads, take me home, to the place I belong…” Bronco plays through his radio and Bradley lets out a sigh.
He guesses it is home once again.
… … …
He’s not quite prepared for the push out of the car, but he’s not as shocked or surprised as the Admiral who chose to rise with him in Hound. Hound had been grumbling almost the entire way, and something sets him off enough to start transforming as they hit the edge of the runway near the hangar and while he staggers a little the admiral with him falls into the rocks and dust and Jake reaches a hand to help him up.
“You okay sir?”
“Of course. Is that… standard?”
“Uh. No. I expect something has set him off…” Jake starts, and he glances around before raising his eyes to the sky. “Oh for… goodness sake.”
“What?”
“That’s Starscream sir…” Jake says, pointing up, because he’s familiar enough with the size and shape or the flying and robot forms to be able to recognize him easily now. And the fact he’s up there flying around is probably what has Hound all annoyed.
“Your one.”
“No. He doesn’t belong to anyone. None of them do sir. They might agree to assist with us with some jobs, but they’re not… subservient.”
“I don’t need to ask my microwave its permission before I reheat my dinner.”
“Your microwave isn’t part of an alien race sir. That you know of, anyway.”
He looks a little taken aback at that thought and Jake’s glad, because he’s certain that one of the Transformers in Captain Mitchell’s collection is indeed a microwave, and he’d love to see it burn everything to a crisp if it was misused or disrespected in any way. They start the long walk down the runway toward the hangar and Jake wonders if he needs to make polite conversation, can’t help but feel a sense of relief when he sees Starscream get lower and closer and then he’s landing and transforming in one smooth movement and Jake doesn’t know his expressions well, but he thinks Starscream looks pleased to see him.
“You’re back!”
“Yeah. You enjoy the flying?”
“Sally said I wasn’t allowed to go far. Something about humans getting scared… I don’t understand why. There are plenty of planes in the sky.”
“Uh, it’s more about the other planes,” Jake starts to explain, wondering just how much detail he needs to go into. Admiral Courtney is clearly listening and watching the interaction with a keen eye and Jake wonders if he should introduce them first.
“Uh, Starscream, this is Admiral Courtney. Admiral Courtney, this is my friend Starscream,” Jake supplies, settling on friend for lack of any other word or term that might fit the situation, and Starscream definitely looks pleased now.
“So uh, it’s not about the planes seeing you, or the humans seeing you, it’s more about the fact they’re not expecting you to be there…”
“No one sees me!”
“What about the other planes?”
“They don’t have eyes!”
“The people in the planes…”
“They can’t tell there is no one flying me!”
Jake bites back a grin.
“Starscream, it’s not about them seeing you. Human pilots talk to a series of towers that manage air traffic. You’d have been an aircraft on no one’s radar and it would freaked the pilots out when you were just suddenly there. They didn’t know you weren’t going to crash into them.”
“Oh. Well. That’s stupid.”
“Yeah well, welcome to Earth I guess? There’s lots of rules humans have to make the technology they have work for them. I’m sure we’ll figure out some better flying space for you.”
“Good. I got bored,” Starscream grumbles and Jake has to bite back a laugh this time.
… … …
Bradley watches as Jake, Starscream and Admiral Courtney get closer. Hound is having a good old rant at Sally, who simply looks like she is entertaining him. The rest of the brass along with Maverick and Ice are standing around, and a couple of the Admirals who Bradley doesn’t like are agreeing with Hound, about how Sally should have stopped Starscream from making himself known.
“We are at an airstrip, planes taking off have been known to use them now and again,” Sally says dryly and Maverick doesn’t even bother to hold back his bark of laughter, but he keeps an impassive face himself, sees it mirrored by Ice. Jake and Starscream are close enough now that he walks out to meet them, jogging a little to get away from the building tension.
“It’s fine man, what are they going to do to you? Dismantle you?”
“I’d like to see them try…” Starscream snarls and Jake holds his hands up immediately, shooting Bradley a grin and he grins back, glad to have someone else his age in this with him.
“No one is fucking touching you. Except maybe me or Maverick and that’ll only be so you can teach us stuff so we can build Jetfire back together.”
“I do not need your help to rebuild my friend…”
“Bet it would go much faster with help though. And friends help friends right?”
The expression on Starcream’s face is a little horrified and Bradley’s not sure what’s causing it, but Jake is snorting in amusement so he guesses they already have in-jokes.
Naomi Tanizaki (self-aware)
Self-Aware! Naomi Tanizaki x GN! Reader
Warning: Platonic Yandere. OOC. Mentions of wounds. Naomi thinks that she can't be considered a human being. English is my second language.
Becoming self-aware
👩🏻 Naomi's first memory in her self-aware live is her brother's face, red from tears.
👩🏻 Then Naomi felt her brother's embrace.
👩🏻 After Naomi gained self-awareness, Tanizaki siblings hurry to the Agency.
"It's not an ability. Yokohama wasn't broken. We are broken. We are fictional characters, who gained self-awareness. Try to remember your lives. Parents, friends outside ADA, what you did yesterday. Give it a try"
👩🏻 Naomi tried to remember her life outside the ADA. Instead of memories, she realised something different.
👩🏻 Other ADA members have something similar. They looked like they have some connection to reality. But not Naomi.
👩🏻 Naomi was not just a fictional character. She wasn't based on any real person. She has no connection to reality.
👩🏻 Naomi wanted to vomit. She felt disgusted by herself.
👩🏻 Was she something more, than a fictional character?
👩🏻 Naomi mindlessly follow Junchirou, when he starts searching for Yosano. She was silent. She doesn't know what to do next. She doesn't want to talk to anyone. Naomi tries to keep her distance from Junchirou.
👩🏻Then she felt the entity's gaze.
_____________________________
Naomi doesn't care about entity. She has too much on her plate right now. So, some observing entity wasn't the most important of her concerns.
She avoided her friends like a plague. She couldn't bare to look at them.
When Junchirou managed to convince her to talk, she told him everything. About feeling less than a human. At the end, she was crying and Junchirou was hugging her.
After their talk, she pays attention to the entity for the first time. The entity doesn't seem bad. It was just watching. Like a curious person.
And then time resets.
And Naomi was pretending to be a hostage, once again.
_____________________________
When they start feeling your presence
👩🏻 Naomi plays her role as hostage. At the same time, she was paying attention to the entity. They don't seem bad.
👩🏻 Naomi doesn't have an Ability. She may not be a genius like Ranpo or Dazai. But she is smart. And, most importantly, she trusts her gut feeling.
👩🏻 She will be cautious. But she will wait before making her decision about you.
👩🏻 At the Uzumaki café, while Atsushi was "guessing" their occupation before joining ADA, Naomi heard the voice.
"Naomi [|||||||||||||] can be admired. ,[|||||] manage to [|||||||||] work and school."
👩🏻 The entity's emotions feel like a warm towel after spa. Naomi adds another point in "entity is not bad" category.
👩🏻And then, Higuici led them to the trap again.
_____________________________
Naomi shield her brother from the bullets. And she heard the voice.
"brave" "as good as others" "humanity"
"Naomi, you are a brave person. It takes special courage to shield someone with your body. It was awesome."
Naomi feels warms on her wounds. The pain left her. She felt calm.
[*In reality, you gently run your fingers over the manga panel.*]
_____________________________
👩🏻 After Yosano finished treating Junchirou and Naomi, the siblings have another long talk. At the end, both Junchirou and Naomi realised, that you are not a bad person.
👩🏻 When The Guild joined ADA and Port Mafia's union, Naomi was the one who helped John Steinbeck and Margaret Mitchell with accepting the weight of been self-aware.
👩🏻 Naomi want to make sure, that they won't hurt you. She wants to be your friend.
And then, one day, the purple moon shined above Yokohama.
When you installed BSD Mayoi Inu Kaikitan
👩🏻 Naomi feel honored, when you used almost all of your moons to get her card.
"Great, Naomi is home. Soon all ADA members will be together"
"Nice SSR animation"
"Is it okay to put Naomi, Steinbeck and Lovecraft in one team?"
👩🏻 When gang get access to your phone, Naomi will often serf the Internet. She wants to look at what topic you are interested in, so when BSD gang finally arrives at your world, she will know what to talk with you about.
👩🏻 One day, Tanizaki siblings and you will share a meal together. One day, you three will have a conversation. One dau, you will become friends.
_____________________________
Today you got another message in BSD Mayoi app. This one was from Naomi.
"[Y/N]! Hope you're doing well. Hope, that one day we will have a nice talk. We will discuss so many topics. Haruko will also join us. Junchirou will make snacks. See you soon. Naomi Tanizaki"
You smile. This notes makes characters look so alive. You choose Naomi's card and pet sprite's cheek.
"Well, if both Tanizaki siblings are want to have dinner with me, it will be rude, if I refuse. I would love to spend time with you. With all of you"
You didn't notice that Naomi's smile becoming wider.
