Chapter 2: Eight-legged Ghost, Eight-stage Fever

The days tick by inexorably, but the specter remains, just as Turan's fever continues to burn. They press on, determined to reach their goal, but under Benoit's orders, they stay close to the coast, ready to dock at any moment to offer Turan the care he needs on dry land.

The crew can't ignore what is becoming increasingly obvious, and Boniface is the first to perceive it: their captain hasn't been the same since the attack by the giant spider. His neck twitches frequently, and his hands frantically rub his legs, as if trying to chase away an invisible presence. He seems to be elsewhere, jumping at the slightest word spoken to him, and as soon as he relaxes his vigilance, his whole body starts to shake. Yet no one dares speak of it, and although concern for him is growing, the top priority remains to look after Turan.

It's late by the time Boniface approaches Nemo, where he usually never is: at the helm. He stares out at the ocean, his face bathed in a cold, dark blue glow that accentuates the hollows in his features. His hands move ceaselessly, rubbing his legs, his arms, then his face, in a never-ending loop that never seems to end.

Boniface watches in silence, struck by his captain's condition. Nemo, usually so in control of himself, seems to be in an agitation he can't contain. His hunched shoulders bear witness to a deep exhaustion, an invisible weight that seems to crush his once proud stature. His usually piercing gaze is now veiled, lost in the black immensity of the ocean, as if desperately searching for something in the darkness of the waves.

The dark circles under his eyes have become darker, almost purple, contrasting with the paleness of his skin, which seems to have lost all color through exhaustion. His hair, usually neatly combed, is a mess, rebellious strands falling over his strained forehead. His lips, drawn into a thin line, betray the pain and anxiety he's trying so hard to conceal.

Nemo rubs his hands compulsively, a nervous gesture that's out of character for him. His fingers, once so assured, tremble slightly, betraying a nervousness he can no longer control. He repeats this movement over and over again, as if to convince himself that it's all an illusion, a mere momentary anguish. But deep down, he knows it's something else, something much darker, more dangerous, that's clinging to his mind.

Boniface, though concerned, doesn't dare break the silence. He knows that Nemo is a man who keeps his torments to himself, preferring to carry the weight of his burdens alone rather than share them with his crew. The captain has always been like this, an impregnable fortress, imposing with his quiet strength, but today, this fortress is showing worrying cracks.

“Captain...” finally murmurs Boniface, but his voice quickly fades in the heavy night air.

Nemo doesn't respond, doesn't even turn his head. He continues to stare at the ocean, his mind carried away by thoughts Boniface can only imagine. After a long moment, Nemo finally speaks, but his voice is weak, almost broken. “Don't worry about me, Boniface. It's nothing... nothing but a bad dream that refuses to go away. Keep looking after the crew, that's all that matters.”

Boniface nods, although he knows it's not that simple. He backs away slowly, leaving Nemo to his torments. Part of him would like to insist, to push the captain to confide in him, but he's known Nemo too long for that. If the captain says there's nothing to fear, then the crew has no choice but to trust him. Yet, as he walks away, Boniface can't shake off a dull worry, an intuition that something darker lies behind Nemo's words. Then he hears the captain whisper, in a voice so soft and exhausted that it seems to belong to an entirely different man: “And then, be the captain I can't be... Right now. I trust you.”

This sentence, imbued with an unusual fragility, unsettles Boniface. This is not the Nemo he knows, not the stubborn, fearless captain, always ready to brave storms and dangers without a word of doubt. Yet Nemo's tone is so sincere, so vulnerable, that Boniface feels his heart clench.

Nautilus thoughts and minor episode 10 reaction (Spoilers, obviously)

It was more than I ever hoped for

I adore that it really is an origin story for Nemo. He's different from who we know him to be because he's yet to become that man, but there are moments when we see him beginning.

I am so happy that Humility wasn't some useless British lady which was admittedly one of my biggest fears for the show. She has a brain and opinions and heart and is just lovely.

I know that they're setting Nemo and Humility up for their romance, which I am all for, but I gotta say Kai and Loti have won my heart right now. He is an adorable malewife and she is That Bitch.

I did not expect what they did to Aadesh. Had me on my toes the whole time because of it.

I feared for Archie's wellbeing the entire time, not gonna lie

Blaster is just adorable and I will hunt down Lord Prat - Oops, I mean Prit - if it's the last thing I do.

PLOT IDEA 1: (based on NO 309): muse a is getting pressured by their parents to get married because if they get married before their cousin it means they will get the family business like their grandparents promised. whoever gets married first will own the company. muse a eventually gives in and agrees to go on a date with the other that their parents picked. muse b on the other hand is getting pressured by their mom because they just want to see them being happy and have their own little family.

muse a & muse b were supposed to meet someone else that night but muse a has the same name as the person muse b was going to meet, so they accidentally end up spending the night together & the next morning they agree to never meet again.

3 months… later muse b finds out she’s pregnant and muse a just got engaged to someone else, THE ANGST

PLOT IDEA 2: friends to LOVers, maybe one of the muses has feelings for the other and has always been so clumsy around them and is like trying not to show off but … fails

* MY BEST FRIEND IS A ROCKSTAR: (tw: death) muse a & muse b have been best friends since they were kids and grew up together. throughout their childhood, muse b had always told muse a about his plans to become a famous musician and as he grew older, became more and more determined to make those dreams come true. when they both hit their teen years, feelings eventually grew and the two were head over heels for each other but neither of them was ever able to admit it. they were both terrified that the feelings would be unrequited or that it would ruin their friendships so just imagine the angst of them seeing each other with other people and FGHDFG. anyway, when muse b finally turns twenty-one, he decides to move to hollywood to make his dreams come true, and muse a stays in their small hometown. they keep in contact with one another but as time went on, muse b becomes a huge rockstar with his band and their contact start to drift but they always had each other in their thoughts, wishing they were closer to one another. a few years pass and they still speak but it’s not like before. muse b was hugely successful and enjoyed the life he was now living but always felt like something was missing. that someone was missing… it’s not until he gets a distraught call from muse a telling him that her mother died does he rush on a private jet and comes home to her. after helping her arrange the funeral and being there for her through her grief, he suggests that she comes on tour with him and the band. wanting to run away from everything and everyone in her small town, she agrees. queue cute ass moments on the tour bus, traveling the world and falling in love like they did when they were young. add drama, angst ( because they’re both still dumb and won’t admit to their feels) stadium tours, TENSION!!!, groupies, etc, etc.

Hi! Two things: firstly, I read and saved your awesome posts about Farsi endearments, thank you so much for those they were so informative and awesome!! Secondly, I was just curious if there were any names you particularly like (in general) ? Or like headcanons for the newest Carstairs baby’s name? I ask because I’m writing an AU fic centered around Alastair and Cordelia when they have more siblings, and I have too many awesome options for potential names. Hi! thank you for your ask, you don't understand the amount of happiness it gave me. And sorry for how terribly long it took me to answer, my exams just finished and now I'm finally back to Tumblr after a long time because school sucks.

When talking about what to call a new baby, there are not only lots of different names, but different categories to choose from, and everyone has their preferences. I would name my child something related to nature (i have reblogged an amazing post about nature names with an additional long list of Persian nature names. You can check it out here, if you want.) or a name rooted in the poems of people in love, like my own name – Negar. But well, we're not talking about my choice of name, but Sona's.

We already know her taste in names. All their Persian names – Sona's, Cordelia's and Alastair's – are rooted in Shāhnāme (or The Book of Kings), which as you might know, is a long epic, and the most important source of Persian mythology. Turan is a very important land in the book (It's weird that it's actually a name but it is. I don't know why anyone would name their child or their character Turan though. Uh.) The word Katāyoun means "the queen of the world", and in Shāhnāme Katāyoun was this very wise and cool and independent queen of Persia, and she was also the mother of Esfandiār (which, as a word, means "pure creation"), a clever and hot warriors prince with daddy issues. All their names being from that book makes a lot of sense, because look at this:

In Shāhnāme, Rostam is known as the most legendary hero of – well, the world. He is wise and strong and brave, and a great warrior, and a smart strategist and a really high functioning leader. He's kind and caring and soft-hearted and patient too, when he needs to be. He's also a very sarcastic bitch, and a dumbass (though I'm the only one you'd hear this from). when talking about Persian heroes, Rostam is the first who comes to mind. He's mostly praised for being a genuinely good person, having morals, not fighting against people weaker than him and stuff like that. Rostam is basically the heart of Shāhnāme and If Sona is a descendant of him, it's understandable that she's proud of it and wants to name her children things to show their heritage.

So, here are some names from Shāhnāme (i will put a * after the ones i particularly like slkaka). i will not be telling their story, because it will make the post unnecessarily long. Just what they were famous for and their personalities.

Rostam. Well, you know this one. No one actually names their child Rostam now, but i think it used to be pretty common back in the early 20th century. The word means tall and handsome (:|).

Tahmine. The word means brave and strong. She was a princess, beautiful as a feary, and Ferdowsi (the guy who wrote Shāhnāme) says that she had a lot of knowledge on every subject that was there. She was Rostam's wife.

Sohrāb*. He is Rostam and Tahmine's only child, and has his parents' traits; so he's admired and respected by everyone. His name means young and healthy and rosy-cheeked (these names have weird meanings It's not my fault). His life was kind of a tragedy, though.

Gordāfarid*. She is just. Chef's kiss. I love her so much and she's my wife. Her name means hero or something and she's this badass warrior with long black hair and a will of iron, and when none of the men of her army had the courage to face Sohrāb, she was the only one who volunteered to fight him and he actually considered her a challenge.

Ārash*. He's another one of my favorites. He was a legendary archer who put his life in an arrow to end a war and give back his nation's dignity and sense of home. He died a hero after shooting that arrow. His name, which is a pretty common name, means glamorous.

Homā*. Another favorite. her name means blessed, and she was a monarch, who ruled Persia for 32 years of happiness and peace for all the people. And Ferdowsi describes her as an artist, and a very wise and knowledgeable person (also very beautiful because this man can't write anyone ugly).

Bijan. Some young, rebellious and adventurous boy. His name means pure, and the story of him and Manije is one of the most important love stories of Shāhnāme.

Manije. The name means beautiful and modest. her personality is kind of similar to Shakespeare's Juliet. she's fine.

Siāvash*. The name means someone with curly black hair, or someone who has a black horse. This is Rostam's adoptive son who he loved with his whole being. He raised him away from the shittiness of the palace (Siāvash was a prince) and he taught him everything he knew; and he became handsome young man with a vast knowledge of things, a good heart and good personality, and Rostam's fighting skills. He is a symbol of innocence and virtue because he was falsely accused of sexual assault, and he was forced to walk through actual fire and step out of it unharmed to prove he hasn't done wrong – by his own father. It's mythology, so he did, in fact, walk through big fires and didn't burn.

Poorān*. Another cool female monarch who bought piece and happiness to the land with her work of wisdom. Fun thing about her is that she did exist outside of Shāhnāme and ruled Persia for a period of time (her name is written as Buran or Boran though).
