dear ms zoe kangals, i saw you went on holiday recently -- how do you not be a Big Huge Anxious Baby about leaving your pup in kennels for the first time?

aww it is hard isnt it! i do always get a little apprehensive about dropping off the dogs, but there's a few things that help:

-the boarding kennel i've used the last few years i really like - the facilities are nice, the staff is nice, and they also update their social media daily with pictures of their dogs, so i'd get updates regularly! a place that's willing to do photo/text updates is super helpful for us helicopter parents

-kep LOVES other dogs so i knew that he'd be so distracted and having a ton of fun the whole time

-think of it as part of their training regimen! it's important for dogs to be comfortable with separation IMO, and to learn how to adapt and sleep in new temporary living. if you ever have to, for example, leave town for an emergency, or want to take them on a road trip, etc, it's helpful for them to not panic about the change in scenery.

it's kind of like when (human) parents send their kids away to summer camp for the first time - everyone's always nervous, but the kids have fun and it's a good experience! be selective about finding a place you really like, and if they're able to give you regular updates that helps me a lot. and tbh, i do miss the dogs but having a few days where i can sleep in late and not have to be watching them all the time is really refreshing lol
