More knowledge bombs from a badass mentor in the industry. Thanks for all you do Hilary. @autobodybarbie My top 5 pieces of advice for anyone looking to enter this trade. . 1️⃣ Do your time!! It’s a ‘skilled’ trade for a reason, it takes years to develop the skills needed to be a great technician. There is nothing you can do to shortcut this, and be prepared to start at the very bottom and work your way up (and eat some shit along the way!). 2️⃣ Your attitude is everything! Show up everyday with a positive attitude ready to learn, put your best foot forward, and stay humble. Take pride in every task you do, no matter how mundane it may seem. 3️⃣ Eliminate the ‘victim mentality��. This industry can be ruthless and you need to learn to not take criticism personally. Often it’s given in a constructive matter, and will only help you become a better tech. So put on your big boy/girl pants and keep going. 4️⃣ Don’t be so hard on yourself!! I constantly see techs who are just starting out comparing themselves to other techs who have been in this industry a long time, and they feel like they aren’t accomplished enough. Trust me when I tell you that the things you are struggling with right now DO BECOME EASIER! Just don’t rush rush it. Slow down and soak up all the knowledge you can. 5️⃣ Finally, pass it on! I see so many old veterans complaining about how ‘annoying’ apprentices are. Take a seat for a second and remember that there was a time where you didn’t know shit about this trade. Be patient with newbies, and do you best to educate and guide them. .
