steve takes his little girl to a halloween park—bc SHE begs him to—and she barely flinched at the scares. but the next time she doesn’t react, the scare actor is impressed, already kneeling at her level after dropping down, and offers to a handshake.
before standing up and reaching out for her hand again. the masked actor, covered in blood splatters, starts walking around the street with a little girl in a princess dress in tow.
he makes another guest jump a foot and shriek, then they faux scream just as loud when the little girl spooks them too. after going around to a couple groups, he leads her back to her dad and gestures like he wants her to stay there and just watch him.
steve holds her hips from where he’s sat on a curb, and they both watch the actor run and slide towards another batch of kids, successfully scaring them. he turns after they run away and gives her a big thumbs up and she giggles, steve smiles at him.
they’re probably sat there watching the man do his job, for the very least, a half an hour, when steve figures they should go do some of the last few things at the park before they head home. the actor waves back at them when he notices them get up to go.
somehow they manage to catch the same guy on their way out of the park. the freaky dude slides right in front of his little girl, and she doesn’t even register the hand up for a high-five and she gives him a little hug. it’s all incredibly cute. she starts off towards the gate again, and steve turns around to the guy, quickly taking him “thank you.” its all he can manage. it’s hard keeping her at her happiest, and this guy made her whole week.
he hears a mumbled “‘course,” as he starts walking backwards, towards his daughter. needing to jog to catch her, he hears a quiet laugh once he’s got her hand.

Imagine Steddie dads at their 5 year old daughter’s ballet recital.
Eddie is so into it. He loves taking her to every class and gets her new leotards and tutus and matching hair bows all the time.
Steve is just as proud and buys a brand bew cam corder just for the recital so he can record it and send copies to everyone.
Their daughter’s routine is to ‘animal cracker’s in my soup’ and she starts in a laundry basket made to look like a soup can (made by Eddie of course).
Steve doesn’t even make it past her popping her head out of the soup can before he is crying. Eddie has to take the camera and record because his hands are too shaky and in the background you can hear Steve blubbering about how she’s grown up so much already.

cw// cancer mentioned, no character death
Eddie's moving to Chicago with his boyfriend and their best friend.
Eddie's moving to Chicago and it feels like everything is finally coming together.
Eddie's moving to Chicago, Steve Harrington is his boyfriend, and his life is starting.
Eddie's moving to Chicago, but then Wayne gets sick.
He tells Steve that he can't leave, not yet, needs to take care of his uncle.
And Steve, his Steve, perfect Steve, says with no hesitation, "I'll stay. Eddie, I'll stay with you. We'll go in six months. Together, that's the plan."
But Eddie can't let Steve do that; Steve who is everything bright and good and right in the world. Steve needs to get out, even if Eddie can't.
He insists Steve go, insists so hard that Steve can only agree, though Eddie can tell it's killing him.
Before they leave, Steve and Eddie cling to each other.
"Six months, baby. Just six months and then I'll be with you."
"I'll stay, Eds. Let me stay for you?"
"Not in a million years. What's six months in a lifetime together?"
"You mean that?" Steve whispers, the words tickling against Eddie's neck.
"Of course, sweetheart. Never meant anything more in my life."
They cling harder, crying against each other, despite it being goodbye for now and not forever.
They haven't said "I love you" yet, and the words hang on his tongue as the embrace ends, but he can't say it now; not when six months of time and 200-plus miles will separate them.
Except Wayne isn't better in six months. He's not worse, but the cancer's still there, he's still sick. And Eddie can't leave.
Eddie figured something like this would happen. Knew in the back of his mind that Steve and Robin and Chicago were never anything but a pipe dream.
When he calls Steve, he thinks he's ready.
"Okay, so Hopper's letting us borrow his truck, but he needs to know our timeline. You think next Saturday--"
"Steve." He says. His stomach clenches.
"What's wrong?" Because Steve knows, like he always does.
"Wayne's not better."
Steve is silent for a beat. "Okay...that's okay. I'll come back. Right now. Tonight. We'll do this tog--"
"You know I can't let you do that."
"Eddie--"
"No, Steve, don't. Okay? Let's just. It's time, you know?"
"It's not. Eddie, it isn't. Don't do this. Please, please," Steve cries.
"It's for the best. I know you can't see it now, but it is. You need to live your life, Stevie. Get that degree. Be someone."
"Eddie," Steve sobs. "Please. You have to know that I lo--"
"Don't," Eddie snarls. Doesn't mean to but can't hear those words, the three that will break him in two. "This is for the best, Steve. A clean break, yeah?"
"No." And Eddie hears Steve shuffling on the other end, like he's getting up. "I'm not letting you do this. I'm coming back, and we're doing this together. A lifetime, remember?"
Eddie's crying now, can't help it. "Please, don't. Steve, just--it's over, okay? I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I can't do this anymore."
He hangs up the phone before Steve can argue, cries himself to sleep.
5 Years Later
Eddie never gets over Steve Harrington. His golden boy, the brave, perfect, kind, bratty man who has his whole heart.
Wayne is okay. Will never not have cancer, but he's doing good. And Eddie runs a record store in the town over. Visits some bars in Indy when he feels a certain kind of lonely. He's settled, finally, is the thing. He's settled and happy enough, so of course, that's when it happens.
He's at the grocery store, stopped in produce. There's a little girl, maybe 3 or 4--bright pink shirt, chestnut hair, little overalls--sitting in a cart by the tomatoes.
The sight of her sparks something in Eddie's chest, but he doesn't understand what or why, and then she's pointing at him, smiling and wiggling. "Daddy!" She shrieks.
That's when Steve Harrington swoops around the corner, reaching for the girl, his daughter, and Eddie takes a step away, ready to run from this.
The girls says, "That's the boy in all your pictures." She giggles and points at Eddie more. Steve blushes, and Eddie's assaulted by so many things all at once he thinks he may pass out.
"Stevie," he hears himself saying.
Steve freezes, looks at Eddie, so much knowing in those hazel eyes it makes him a little sick. But it still surprises him when Steve pulls him into a hug. Being in those arms again, It's like everything keeping him together falls apart. He sinks into the hold, breathes in deep, feels like home.
It shouldn't, though. Steve's got a kid. Probably a wife. Can't have his ex-boyfriend falling apart in his arms in the grocery store. Eddie disengages, steps back a little. Steve blinks, eyelashes fluttering, and Eddie is still so in love with him it hurts.
"I should--I should go," he mumbles, gripping at the back of his neck like it's a lifeline. The little girl giggles more, bouncing in her seat, and he's overcome with fondness. Can't help but give her an exaggerated bow as he goes.
He makes himself walk to the end of the aisle, but once he's left Steve behind, he runs.
That night, when a knock comes at his door, nothing prepares him for a sheepish Steve Harrington standing on the other side.
"Sorry to drop by unannounced," Steve says, manners still impeccable. "Wayne gave me your address. I'm glad--I'm glad he's doing okay, Eddie."
Eddie's too astonished to respond, nods for a few seconds before, "Th-thanks. Uhh, you wanna come in?"
Steve does and then they're in Eddie's little living room together and what the fuck is he supposed to do?
"Where's the kid?" he asks. He gestures Steve to the couch.
Steve smiles, a soft thing that's a knife to Eddie's heart. "Oh, I left her with Robin. They'll be fine for a few hours. Her name's Ellie, by the way. Ellie Jane Harrington."
"She knows who I am?" Eddie asks.
"Course. I told her about everyone. Showed her pictures. I hoped she could meet you one day."
"Yeah?" Eddie can't stand the thing that unfurls in his chest, blooming with love, so much care it aches in his teeth. "I swear next time I won't run away."
Steve laughs, hazel eyes fond in a way that Eddie can't look at for too long. "You didn't run away, Eds. It was a weird--reunion."
Eddie chuckles, pulls hair over his face. "A little bit. Not every day you run into your ex and his daughter scoping out tomatoes."
"I was hoping to give you a call, ask you out to dinner, or something. Not my kid recognizing you at Bradley's Big Buy."
"You wanna take me out to dinner, Stevie?" He asks before he can think better of it. Steve blushes red, and god Eddie missed him.
"Thought it might be nice, yeah. Get to know each other again."
It's Eddie turn to blush. "Why are you here?" He asks, good of a segue as any.
"Here, like, in your apartment, or here in Hawkins?"
"Both."
"I'm--uh--the new counselor at Hawkins High. Might coach the basketball team."
"But--Chicago," is all Eddie can say.
Steve laughs. "It was fun for a while, but--I don't know, man, it got hard with a kid. Joyce told me about the job opening and I decided to try."
"And Ellie's mom?" Eddie doesn't want to ask, can't stand not knowing.
Steve's eyes fall. "Ah," his hands squeeze into fists. "She's not in the picture. Never really was. After--" he takes a deep breath. "After we broke up, I sort of. Lost myself for awhile. Slept around. One night, I got this call saying that a baby had been surrendered at a fire station, my name listed as the father."
"Oh, sweetheart. I bet you didn't hesitate."
Steve stares at his hands, smiles. "Not for a second. I cried when I saw her, Eds. Just fucking sobbed. She was so beautiful. Then I had to figure out how to raise a kid and finish school."
"But you did it." Eddie can't hide that he's crying anymore.
Steve nods, is crying too.
"I'm really proud of you, sweetheart," Eddie whispers.
They look at each other, tear stained and sad but somehow so happy, and Steve leans forward, presses his mouth to Eddie's. He freezes, shocked to stillness, overwhelmed with the thing he never thought he'd have again.
Steve pulls back, face red and eyes wide. "I'm so sorry. I got it in my head--" he stands, fumbling for his keys. "I should have never--you told me we were done and I know you meant it. But I saw you in the grocery store and I thought, you know, I'm never getting over him. I'm so stup--"
"Steve, wait" Eddie snaps out of it all at once, hurrying to where the man he's never stopped loving is shoving his feet inexpertly into his shoes.
"Don't leave," he says, almost whispering. "Please don't leave. Steve, I'm so, so sorry for how I ended things. I was so young and stupid, and--I didn't want you to lose your dreams for me."
Steve turns then, tears trickling down his cheeks. "You were my dream, Eds. You still are. I should have come back, made you let me stay. But I thought--maybe your feelings had changed. That you didn't--that you weren't--"
Eddie can't help it, pulls Steve into his arms. "I was. I am. You're all I've ever wanted." He presses his face to Steve's hair, breathes in deep. "I loved you then. I love you now. I've loved you every day in between."
"I love you," Steve sobs. "I love you so much."
They kiss, lips slotting together like they never stopped. It's salty with tears, but it's perfect. It's them.
Their mouths part, but they stay in each other's orbit; need the proximity after years apart.
"I have a kid now, Eddie," Steve says into the silence between them.
"Yeah," Eddie nods. "She's beautiful. Looks like her dad."
Steve smiles, flushes again. "She needs stability in her life, you know? She's my priority. Always will be. And if I--if this--"
Eddie knows. Understands his boy just as well now as he did back then. "We'll take it as slow as you need, baby. I want to be there for both of you. When you're ready. And until then, I'll be wherever you need me."
More tears escape Steve's eyes, but Eddie brushes them away. "We have a lifetime to figure it out."

Digging Holes
@steddiemicrofic prompt ‘hole’ | 404 words | rated G
cw: implied past child abuse • read on ao3
Steve watched the kids playing in their backyard, digging happily in the sandbox Uncle Wayne had made for them. The neighbor boy had come over, and his girls sometimes needed to set some boundaries with him but otherwise everything usually went well.
He brought them juice boxes or granola bars from time to time but tried his best to let them play uninterrupted. Eddie always claimed he was a helicopter parent, but he felt he was more than entitled to a little paranoia.
Smirking as his youngest again reminded the neighbor to not fling sand around, he watched as she looked around the backyard for him. Once she knew he was just on the patio, she went back to playing. That was something else he enjoyed, that his girls knew to keep an eye out.
Eddie snuck out of the house and slid in beside him.
“How are you going to helicopter from all the way over here, babe?” He teased, pressing a kiss to his temple.
“I am not helicoptering. How are you going to rile them up from all the way over here?”
Things seemed to get tense all at once, both of his girls’ heads popping up to locate their dads.
“We reached the bottom of the sandbox! How are we going to dig a hole to China?!” The neighbor kid yelled louder so the adults could now hear him.
Suddenly Steve was back at recess as a small kid, watching a classmate with shorn dark hair and a black eye explain that he was digging a hole to China with his spork from the cafeteria. He had taken one long look at the kid and grabbed a nearby stick to help him.
“Woah,” Steve whispered, shaking himself out of the thirty year old memory he had completely forgotten about (suffering several head injuries since then).
“What?” Eddie looked at him strangely.
“I dunno. I just remembered, I think. Helping you in, like, elementary school, maybe the same age as they are… dig a hole to China? You were using a spork?”
“Oh my god,” he breathed, eyes taking on a faraway look. “That was you?”
Steve nodded.
“Everyone always thought it was really weird. You were the only one who helped. I, uh, really wanted to get away. That was before, um, before I went to Wayne’s.”
He squeezed his hand on his knee. “I’m glad I helped.”
“Me too.”

Steve Harrington is 100% without a doubt a girl dad
He knew
Even before any of your girls were born
That they would all have two things
His perfect hair and winning personality
Unfortunately he knows there’s also a pretty good chance they might have some of that mean girl streak he retired in high school
He’s fully aware of that going into this
And he doesn’t want his kids to make the same mistakes he did
So he really prioritizes teaching them from a young age to be compassionate and think about how their words and actions could affect other people
To look out for the kids that are shy or lonely or don’t have anyone to play with
He teaches them to use their powers for good, like aunt El
But before we get into any more of that
When Steve realized all six of your kids were going to be girls???
He was so over the moon
He initially was hoping for three girls and three boys
You had two girls back to back at first
Then for your third pregnancy, you found out you were having twins
Both girls
After your fifth girl he realized you could go 6 for 6 all girls
The idea made him way more excited than he expected to be
In the second trimester of your sixth pregnancy, the doctor looked at the ultrasound closely before turning to you and steve with a smile
“It’s a girl!”
Steve was so happy
He couldn’t stop hugging you and crying
Kissing your forehead, thanking you for giving him such beautiful children, such a beautiful family
When you were pregnant with the twins, he really started stocking up on girl stuff for them
He realized he’s going to jump from two daughters to four
And if Steve Harrington is anything, he’s a provider
He gets your oldest two to help him pick out stuff for them and their new sisters
Barbies, baby dolls, nail polish, hair accessories, dress up costumes, my little ponies, polly pocket sets, and much more
All picked out by them
Soon find their way into your living room and nursery
Not to mention the books and movies about princesses, fairies, fashion, friendship, and every other hyperfeminine childhood dream
And all the classics about sisterhood too
Vhs tapes of pride and prejudice, little women, sense and sensibility, fiddler on the roof
Even my neighbor totoro
Are all quick to become favorites at your house
A few years later when all six of your girls are here
Steve has become a master at being a girl dad
He can braid hair like a champion and he’s never met a tea party he didn’t like
And every time one of your girls brings home a new friend, quietly telling steve that they were playing by themselves and she didn’t want them to feel lonely
He knows he’s done his job well
Don’t get me wrong, there have been times where someone’s copped an attitude and been grounded from lip gloss or butterfly clips for a few days to keep that in check
But for the most part they remember and follow every word of their dad’s advice
As mentioned in another post, sleepovers are a huge deal
Once a week you’ll rent a couple movies for your girls so they can watch and play barbies while you and Steve plan and coordinate schedules for the upcoming week
There’s usually some birthday party or sleepover
And there’s definitely more than a few play dates to coordinate too
Plus ballet classes, gymnastics, girl scouts
Not to mention the horse riding lessons your twins have been begging you for
You both sit down with some coffee or tea and get everything planned out
It takes some effort to coordinate pick ups and drop offs and homework assignments
But it means his girls are happy, so he really loves to do it
The only flaw in Steve’s parenting
The one thing you’ve been warning him not to do too much
Is spoil them
But your stevie really is a provider at heart
When his girls beg him for something with puppy eyes
Especially if they all ask together to wear him down
He doesn’t stand a chance
Besides, he really really loves spoiling them
He loves seeing his girls happy
Every time he caves, it’s always followed with a “alright, now let’s pick something out for your mom”
Because holy shit he loves spoiling you too
He loves you so much
He loves everything about you
And he especially loves the beautiful family you gave him
Every day his daughters remind him more and more of you
And he really couldn’t be prouder
He’s looking forward to when the years full of makeup and dates and prom dress shopping
And everything before and after that
He’s so proud of who they are and who they’re going to become
He’s so proud to be their dad
And to get to parent them alongside you
There’s not one day that goes by without glitter and lisa frank stickers and lip gloss and hair clips
And there’s not a day that goes by without laughter and smiles and hugs a
And Steve telling all of you how much he loves you

Shelter From The Storm - Series Photo Album
AO3 - new page every saturday
summary: It all started with a few shots and some bad intentions. It was some late summer night at a house Steve didn’t recognize. There was music that thrummed in his bones. Steve ended up in bed, a little tipsy, with a girl named Sarah. She was in his biology class sophomore year, but they hadn't spoken until tonight. They didn't really have any intention of speaking again after tonight either. Until Steve is staring down at a little blue plus sign some weeks later, pale as a ghost.
“What are we gonna do?” He asks breathlessly.
“I can't get an abortion, but I… I don't want a kid, Steve. I think adoption is the only option,” Sarah tells him, fiery locks tucked back into a ponytail.
The thought of his kid out there, being raised by someone else, and not being part of it twists his stomach. Steve may be terrified, but that fear pushes him into the jungle of fatherhood not away from it.
“I’ll take it,” he announces.

Steddie s first kid is a boy, they're out with him and he starts having a meltdown/throwing a tantrum as kids do and some mom with a couple kids in tow come up and makes some comment about 'dad babysitting' completely ignoring the other one and starts trying to help calm the kid down by telling him things like 'big boys don't cry'
They're both like fuck all the way off with that shit he's a kid and a person he's allowed emotions and express them

Honestly, Eddie doesn’t know why it had taken so long for him to realize his and Steve’s children could understand the shit that came out of his mouth.
(It took an embarrassingly long amount of time).
Even when Moe’s third or fourth word was fuck, he didn’t realize it (and she was using it mostly correctly too, which should have been a serious flag, but nope).
What made him realize it was when they started repeating the shit that came out of his mouth.
To strangers.
In public.
The first time Eddie had been really caught off guard by something one of his daughters said was when Moe, who was three at the time, had proudly announced to an unsuspecting grocery store cashier, “Daddy says my Papa’s a DILF!”
And, like, Eddie had just heard the term for the first time, and obviously he was goddamn delighted by it because…duh. Steve.
It just hadn’t occurred to him that his toddler might have caught it too, but little pitchers have big ears, or so the proverb suggests, and Eddie had taken it as a wake-up call that Moe isn’t a baby anymore (tragic as it may be).
He’s not the only problem though – Steve is just as bad, (if not worse, because he really doesn’t bother to check where their kids are before he starts running his mouth).
One particularly damning incident was at a restaurant, which is something they don’t even do all that often because, seriously, going to a restaurant with very young kids should be an Olympic event or something.
(The last time they all went out to eat, Nancy and Robin had made a drinking game out of all the times Steve and Eddie had to take a child to the bathroom and ended up so far gone that Eddie had needed to drive them home).
The incident started with the waitress asking, “Can I get you started with anything to drink?”
And it had ended with four-year-old Moe confidently announcing, “My Papa needs a fucking margarita.”
Thank god, the waitress had been a twenty-something college student and thought it was hilarious, but Steve had still been completely mortified.
#little do they know – once the girls hit elementary school they start recounting all the parent-gossip they overhear#then eddie comes home one day to this conversation between steve and moe:#steve: and if anyone asks where you heard about this?#moe: carpool#steve: excellent#steddie#liv’s steddie dads verse#steddie dads#steve harrington#eddie munson#i feel like there's been a theme to this week's drabbles lol

Famous musician with three daughters under the age of seven Eddie Munson hears that they’re making a Barbie movie and offers/peer pressures his agent to get him presented to the production team as a potential songwriter for the soundtrack. He meets with the team, and eventually the cast, and they all hit it off, and he writes and plays on the eventually award-winning song “I’m Just Ken.”
When he gets asked about whether or not it was hard to write this song, especially since it’s so different from Corroded Coffin’s usual output, he always laughs and says it was easy because he’s got a hell of a Barbie at home that he lives to worship.
(Which the internet finds hilarious because his Barbie is certified Normal Guy and Hot Dad Steve Harrington.)

Eddie’s live-streaming as he paints a miniature. He’s very focus on it so he’s only half-listening to what Steve is saying as he putters around the room.
He does tune back in when he hears Steve say, “Say what you want about my dad. The man died doing what he loved.”
Eddie, not even looking up: What’s that? Fucking someone other than your mom?
Steve:

Steddie in their 30’s who on a Random Thursday night after putting their kids to bed decide to go smoke weed for the first time in a few months in the garage.
Steve almost never smokes anymore so Eddie does all the prep work, even holds the bong for him. They take their hits and head back inside Steve already immediately scared and following closely behind Eddie basically hiding behind his back.
“Eddie I feel weird, like space barbie or something and there are definitely overly glittery pink aliens after me. I can feel their giant eyes on my back.”
“Its gonna be okay baby, we will land you in the safe zone soon with the emergency fruit snacks and a fresh bottle of water with ice.” Eddie assured as best he could letting himself crack a smile at the stars so Steve wouldn’t see.
Unlucky for them (well mostly Steve who had blasted off to paranoid planet) their kids are sitting at the table. Both girls in their night gowns, teddy bears in hand with hands rubbing at their eyes.
“Daddy? Papa?” Gracie their youngest says.
They both stand like deers caught in head lights at the font door. Eddie feels Steve’s hand grip into the back of his shirt tighter and snaps into action.
“Okay Barbie mission to the safe zone starting, head down, lets go.” Eddie grabbed Steve pulling him into his side as he guided them to their shared bedroom with a quick “one second girls.” Thrown over his shoulder.
“Who are you talking too?” Steve questioned trying to lift his head.
“The aliens.” Eddie guided it back down. Somehow he knew that answer would induce less panic. He flicked on the colourful lamp and gave Steve the remote knowing the colour options would keep him entertained long enough. With a final kiss to the forehead and a promise of snacks Eddie was out the door.
He stood in the hallway to the kitchen and took a deep breath. He had been high enough in his teen years at school. He could do this. He could lock in. He walked into the kitchen and the small delusional part of him that believed his 6 and 8 year olds tucked themselves back into bed withered away. The girls were still there looking confused.
“Daddy why did papa go away? Is he okay?” Gracie asked.
“Papa is fine just not feeling good thats all.”
“Did he have too much adult juice again?” Daisy asked this time.
“HAH.” Eddie couldn’t help the laugh he barked out at that. “No no just a migraine, he is getting some rest now.”
“Why were you in the garage if papa has a migraine?”
“Okay how about my turn for questions, what are you two doing up?” Eddie deflected, he would miss these days when they became snarky teens who caught on to shit like that.
“We want a snack daddy.” Gracie asked.
“Please.” Daisy added belatedly.
“How about this, fruit pouches in your room, NOT in bed though.” He was already getting the apple sauce pouches out of the fridge. He ushered them down the hall back to their rooms with a lamp on and a warning he would be back in 15 minutes to make sure they went to sleep.

Steddie's kid, let's call her Lizzie, got Steve as her teacher, walks into class.
Lizzie: Hey, dad.
Student: You're not supposed to call him that.
Lizzie: But he doesn't like it when I call him mom.
Eddie: *who's the music teacher walks by* You tell him, Lizard.
Lizzie: Papa!
Same student: Oh my god! Is that what Lizzie stands for?
Eddie cackled all the way down the hallway while Lizzie slapped a hand to her face.
Lizzie: It's Elizabeth. You dingus.

Steve walks into the living room with two coffees in hand to find Eddie slumped on the couch and staring – no, glaring – at two of their cats, Gandalf and Ozzy.
Two cats who typically prefer to be anywhere other than occupying a space with any living, breathing humanoids.
Eddie tsks and folds his arms, leaving Steve with no choice but to abandon his Garfield mug on the coffee table and risk his partner no doubt whining for it with a limp arm the moment he gets himself comfortable on the couch.
As soon as Steve sits down, Gandalf scurries away and disappears behind the recliner chair.
"What's wrong?" he frowns, chuckling low so as not to wake their napping daughter in the next room.
"What could I have possibly done to make them loathe me so?" Eddie laments, his eye following as Ozzy jumps onto the nearest window sill to bask in the afternoon sun peaking in.
"Well, Gandalf has always been an asshole," Steve offers, taking a sip from his coffee as Eddie splutters in indignation, "Remember when we first got our bedroom all set up and he jumped on my face in the middle of the night?"
"A terrifying act of vengeance," Eddie shudders at the memory.
"I thought I was suffering an actual goddamn heart attack."
As if on cue, Eddie reaches out a hand for his mug and makes a tiny, 'eh'-sound. Steve purses his lips and leans forward to fetch the mug nonetheless.
He hands it over and they sink back in unison.
"What about Ozzy then?" Eddie asks.
"Well, I mean we did just leave them with Nance for a week – "
"– I knew Wheeler would be a terrible Cat Aunt," Eddie gulps through a mouthful of piping-hot coffee and clenches his jaw.
"Eds, that wasn't what I was going to say," Steve elbows him in the side, "We left the cats with Nance for a week and then just... came home again with a tiny human in our arms."
Before he can say any more, Eddie jumps up, discards his beverage on the coffee table in such haste he splashes some liquid on the new TV Guide and runs to the window. He scoops up Ozzy, who goes limp at the sudden contact. Eddie snuffles into the top of the menacing furball's noggin, cooing unintelligibly.
"I'm sorry, my dearest familiar," Eddie cries out with the utmost theatrics, "My noblest of companions. I didn't mean to abandon thee. I was merely protecting the Princess of Stinky-Town, Joanie of House Munson."
Steve rolls his eyes.
"Daaaad!"
