For me, that scene from the Final Movie. I think that's Sorachi's answer who is the ultimate ship. I think we GinTae fans got the winning moment. It seals the deal. And that's the reason why I chose this scene.

31 Day GinTae Challenge

Day 9: Do you think Gintoki remembered Dozaemon's memories of Tae? If yes, how do you imagine it?

Yes definitely! For me it would be just like an ordinary day. Yorozuya were hanging out at the Kodoukan dojo and of course as a tradition, Tae will serve them her signature dish. Gin did not able to escape as Tae shoved her dark matter to his mouth and then boom! He remembers everything: from passing out in the street to the battle where Tae said her last words to him. Then he woke up staring at her, different this time making Otae blush. The kids noticed his sudden change toward Tae. One day she confronts him why then he explains everything. She smiles and assured him that she likes him, cat or human and scolded him not to change. He hugged her back, feeling each other's heartbeats for the first time.

Something good to celebrate

A short drabble for Shimura Tae's birthday.

“Today is her birthday. I don’t know if she will like what I got for her. It’s not like I even spent money to worry if she will like it or not.” He ruffled his already perm hair. “Aaah, whatever. It’s just that I don’t have someone to give this to and it’s such a shame if this will be put to waste. Besides, it will definitely be useful for her.”

“I wasn’t thinking about her at all when I got this.” He continued to defend himself from an imaginary onslaught of accusing stares and questioning faces from their friends. He placed the item inside his yukata and walked briskly. He needs to hurry if he doesn’t want his friends to drop dead from eating Tae’s dark matter.

As he was hauling boxes after boxes of stuff from the client who is moving away, his client gave the item to Gintoki. He was the only one to attend to their client’s request that day. He deployed Kagura and Shinpachi to another client’s request so they can keep their income rolling and their business afloat.

Now, he is running late for Tae’s small dinner party. Prior, he had to fight tooth and nail with an amanto for the last strawberry-flavored cake. The smug bastard just wanted to hoard every cake in the sweetshop and he can’t get it through his thick skull that Gin-san needed the cake for a birthday party. And so he just let his fit do the talking. He found it effective to silence the damned amanto who is raising hell at the sweetshop chasing away all the customers.

When he arrived at the Kodokan-dojo, everyone is having a good time. He is relieved to see their frienemies alive and well. At the table where dinner is served, he saw no sign of the dark matter making its feared appearance. Upon closer inspection, he saw several bowls of the dark matter near a trash bin labelled biohazard. For once, he’s glad he came in late. He bets it’s Kyubei and the others who ordered edible food for this dinner party in place of the terrible dark matter.

Tae is quick to welcome him. “Gin-san, come on in. Eat dinner, I know you’re famished.” She said as she led him to sit beside her.

“Happy birthday to you Otae. Here is a cake for you.”

“That’s so thoughtful of you Gin-san” Tae said as she took the cake from him.

“And why would the flavour be strawberry Gin-san? I wonder if it’s really for Aneue or for you.” Shinpachi said as he shot Gintoki an apprehensive look.

“Better that than eating your sister’s deadly cooking.”

“And what do you mean by that you stupid man?” Tae asked as a vein popped on her temple.

“I was saying your cooking could slay an army, you uncute woman!”

“Aaaahhh, are you seriously fighting now or low-key flirting? In front of me? How dare you Gin-san!” Shinpachi shrieked but no one paid him attention.

As the night deepens and the laughter becomes more raucous, the item is burning a hole inside Gin-san’s clothes. He needs to give it to her now.

He found a chance when she went into the kitchen to get some more food. He followed her.

“Er… Otae, here is something I want you to have. I’m sorry if this is a hand-me down item, I wasn’t able to buy you anything expensive. But I did not get that from the dumpster I promise,” he even held up his hand.

“I think this will greatly improve your cooking skills. I really appreciate your thoughtfulness bringing over bento boxes for the Yorozuya and for when we go have outdoor activities.” He handed her a notebook containing the family recipe of several cuisines.

“That’s from the previous tenant of the building. I looked the contents over and I know for a fact that you can outdo those listed there. Our family will surely enjoy those foods if they were more edible and palatable.”

Tae smiled. It’s about time she learned a different cuisine to feed her family. He did say their family right? Her heart is full.

BONUS:

“Happy birthday Otae.” Gin-san said as he leaned over and planned to place a kiss on Tae’s cheek.

That same moment,

“Aneue, what’s taking you so long? We need more food ---“

Tae turned her face to see who was calling her at the same time Gintoki leaned over. His lips landed perfectly on her mouth giving Shinpachi a memory he won’t be forgetting for such a long time.

“GIN-SANNN!!! How dare you make a move on my sister in my own house?!!!”

Another tirade of Shinpachi’s rants fired through the house.

Day 2

A/N: I refuse to believe that I am this late and we are already in our fourth day! Hahaha. I need to write real quick! Apologies, same same. Grammar, OOCness, and typos.

“First of all, it’s none of my business. Second, I don’t care. Lastly, I don’t give a fuc—“

Kagura could be abusive sometimes.

White perm knelt on the ground after the Yato’s deadly punch almost pierced his belly. He was so careful not to piss off the brat before since her fists were made of steel, but right now, he’d rather be beaten by her than submit to their early argument. Gintoki shook his head to steady himself after the impact, then stood up once he recovered.

“You’re really useless,” Kagura scoffed at him. Even when she aged, she hadn’t changed when it came to this matter. “I am trying to help you, come on!”

He remained silent and uninterested. Kagura took a step to follow him when he sluggishly dragged his feet into the kitchen to check their groceries… perhaps an excuse to dismiss the teenager. The Brat had been pestering him since morning and she literally hadn’t stopped endorsing her idea to stick their noses into other people’s affair. Gintoki stopped by the sink, and glared at the young woman. He crossed his arms against his chest to daunt her, but the teen continued to defy him. He sighed in defeat.

With his brows furrowed, and chin lifted to the side, he talked with her again. This time, his tone was almost pleading. “It’s not a good idea to meddle with others’ business, Kagura-chan. It’s her choice. She’s a full grown woman.”

“H a h. Coward.”

Thank god, the Yato stormed out the kitchen, but not before throwing him another deadly glare.

Coward, huh? Nails scratched his scalp, somehow comforting. What was he doing again before Kagura scramble his peaceful life? Ah, yeah. Overthinking.

Their intertwined hands, her wide eyes, red cheeks, and slightly parted lips; he wanted to runaway from all of it. Did he really just do that? Kagura was right all along. He was just another wimp.

“Someone invited me on a date,” the flat chest declared one day.

They were on their regular strolling after Shinpachi and Kagura left the apartment. She was savouring her favourite baagan dash, and he was too focused on his parfait to be bothered by her declaration, but for some reason, he was listening.

“Who did you victimised this time? Don’t tell me it’s one of your stalkers?” he almost did not miss her fist right after.

Tae smiled and cracked her knuckles, in case he said something funny one more time. “It’s Takasugi-san. I was telling you about him, but you wouldn’t listen. He talked a lot about you whenever he visited at Snack Smile.”

Suddenly, the parfait didn’t taste great anymore. He threw the cup of the dessert into the nearest garbage can they walked past. Otae gasped and turned to him, as if he had just grown a pair of horns.

“But that’s half empty! Gin-san, are you dying?” she exaggerated.

He looked at her with his dead fish eyes. “Don’t be silly.”

“You’re becoming more edgy than Takasugi-san these lately. Care to tell me what’s going on?”

His steps became bigger and quicker that the Brunette had a hard time catching up. “You and your imagination… I’m going now.”

Before he could go any further, Tae managed to clutch on the sleeve of his kimono. When turned back to her in irritation, he was greeted by her worried face. He didn’t like to see that expression, he didn’t like what he felt. It was not like him. He was supposed to be someone who didn’t give a shit.

“Did I do something wrong? Tell me why your mood’s been sour for the past days. Have you been forcing yourself to hang out with me just because I asked you?” the woman’s many questions he was sure of the answers.

Gintoki never forced himself to do something he didn’t want to do , even if it was for a close friend. She never did anything to make him go away out of annoyance, as she always annoyed him that he was already endured, so it didn’t count anymore. Of all people, why did it have to be him? It could be that gorilla, or Kyuubei, or even that Mayo bastard. Otae lived up to her name, she had a strange taste.

Since this would direct them nowhere, the white perm finally slowed down hence she was able to walk side by side with again. He felt her lingering gaze on him, as she awaited for him to speak.

“Can I tell you a secret?” he finally voiced out.

“What is it?”

“Takasugi has a bad breath.”

Before Otae could inquire and look into him properly, he was quick to grab her hand and laced his fingers with hers. Just as he thought, Tae would always be tongue-tied when it came to confrontations like this, especially when she was nervous, embarrassed, and all red. He nonchalantly brushed his thumb against her knuckles, and he heard her squeak in no time.

Gintoki grinned. “You’re such a girl.”

“I have always been,” although she did not stutter, her voice slightly cracked. She knew how to regain composure really fast if the situation called.

They fell silent. They did not know which way they were taking, but they kept going. He would sneak a glance at her from time to time, just in time when her eyes would fly to him. In the end, they would always catch themselves looking at each other. Gintoki would’ve puked if this was any ordinary days but right now, he felt like a sick puppy who enjoyed getting attention from his owner. Even Sadaharu would not fancy the idea. But whatever the heck was going on, he bet it would fade away later. Including that unpleasant feeling whenever she talked about Takasugi, as if that shorty was the manliest and most formidable man on earth. Formidable, my ass.

“Gin-san?”

Her voice snapped him out of his thoughts.”Hnn?”

“What is this for?” She raised their hands that were currently clasping together. “Does this mean you like me?”

As if a bomb dropped and exploded in front of him, the bokuto bearer samurai stopped from his track, now frozen on his spot. That was something he did not see coming… or he did see it, but he wasn’t ready to process, much more to answer that one. It was not that complicated though, he just had to be honest. This woman could see right through him so no matter what he say to her, she would always know the truth. Gintoki was not fond of complicated things like this so he better answer now.

“What are you saying? Gin-san likes looser women,” that sounded lighter than he intended to.

After that she left.

No words, no punches, no bruises on his face. She just left. She left him as if she wouldn’t come back to him again.

Day 11: Favorite GinTae scene from the movies

This is from Benizakura. As Gin-san regained consciousness, he was greeted with a sight of Tae dozing off. It just appeals to me a lot because they normally have their guards up with others, but with each other, they are comfortable enough to lower their defenses.

Day 12: Gintoki loves Otae

Gin to Tae (Non-verbatim): You should be with me instead He just stole Kondo's date, man.

Day 13: Otae loves Gintoki

She took the trouble of going to the Yorozuya even when it's raining (& they're cooped inside), probably getting them snacks/ dark matter lol. It is a small gesture but it's the little things that count :)

Day 14: Three things why Otae is special to Gintoki

In his leisure time, he spends it with Otae (and ShinKagu)

She always puts the welfare of the Yorozuya fam first

They get in each other's personal space bubble quite naturally

Day 15: Three things why Gintoki is special to Otae

He asks for her consent first.

He got 2 letters from Otae

They're practically married WITH KIDS & a pet :)

Day 16: Gintae in an alternate universe

I'd love to see GinTae in Hakuoki (Gin would be another leader ig, Tae would be more of a medic/ attendant in that Meiji era). I wonder how the Hakuoki Shinsengumi would treat Gintoki if they were transported in that world, and how Chizuru and Tae will be BFF's.

Day 17: A GinTae poem

Day 18: GinTae versions

Day 19: A ship that reminds me of Gintae

I don't really have anything in mind cos they're their own class of dorks. In terms of working/ knowing each other a long time, forming a mutual attraction, and not acting on it (yet), I'd say Pepperony (Tony x Pepper of MCU)

Day 20: GinTae Symbol

Although Kagura is the one who always has her umbrella with her, I think the cute, bunny-patterned umbrella symbolizes GinTae for me as their indirect way of saying they care for each other.

Day 21: Who would confess first?

In my head, it will be Gintoki and it will be when he accidentally let it out when he's drunk. So Tae could not be sure if it was just the alcohol talking or was he actually confessing.

Day 22: The great reveal!

They will be at Otose's snack bar. Gintoki just casually narrates the love story of Smeggy Samurai and Pony-chan in the Whinery ep, making Smeggy sound impressive.

Gin: They went bar hopping & decided to get together. They are taking care of two kids and a huge white dog.

Shin: Huh? There wasn't a dog in the original episode. You should not make plotholes that will have to be addressed later!

Gin (looks at Tae): Well, Patsuan... we are now

Shin: *Realizes the characters and implications irl, passes out*

Day 23: First kiss

They both leaned towards each other at the same time so it's a draw lol. Gin had a near brush with d3ath and Tae was worried so she kept on nagging him. When they had that yet another intense eye contact, they knew it was now or never. For Tae, it was so she could convey her feelings in that small gesture. Gin on the other hand thinks it was to shut her up, but after one look at her, the realization hit him that if it was the last thing he'd do before facing doom, then so be it. No regrets. Then boom, they latched onto each other (★ ω ★)

Day 24: Date Night

I'm imagining them doing a movie marathon at the dojo. Shinpachi and Kagura will join them. Kagura will lead Shinpachi to the kitchen so her anego and Gin-chan will have some quality time alone, but will make an excuse to Shinpachi, "So that Otae will not feed them her dark matter."

Day 25: Marriage proposal

Gintoki secretly takes photos of Tae and the engagement ring w/o her noticing (like this guy). He would just improvise on the spot when caught.

Day 26: Flirty & Jealous

Flirty & Touchy: Gintoki Jelly type: Tae probably (Gintoki too when he senses that the love rival is at par with him eg. Hajime, Hijikata. Kyubei)

Day 27: An argument

Gintoki is the paragon of adult wisdom. Not.

He drinks, he gambles (w/c he loses 90% of the time), he's a bum, he charges head-on w/o regard to consequences. But just the time, he does his best to protect those important to him <3

Day 28: Parenting style

Gintoki will feed their kids with candies and sweets, try to keep it secret from Tae but ofc the PTA (Tae) has eyes on the back of her head so Gin-san was really asking to get his ears pulled as punishment

Day 29: GinTae is my OTP

Day 30: GinTae to infinity

Love for them to build a happy family together, they'd still be on their usual shenanigans, they'll have more shows to parody.
