Product Insight 02
Hello and welcome to Dramante’s second product insight! In this edition (02) we will take a closer look at Masons of Yorkshire - Tea Edition which is available on our website!
Masons Gin
Karl and Cathy Mason created the brand in 2012 and launched their first gin a year later on World Gin Day, 13 June 2013.
Masons Tea Edition Gin
Uniquely characteristic, Masons Tea Edition combines inherently dry Yorkshire Tea with smooth juniper flavours, sharp citrus and warming spice for a refreshingly long, dry finish. Subtle notes of cardamom and coriander spice are lifted by lemon citrus, leading to a long, dry, black tea finish. Masons Tea Edition has won some of the world’s most prestigious gin awards, including Gold Outstanding at the International Wine and Spirits Competition in 2019, Best British Contemporary Gin at the World Gin Awards 2019 and Gold at the New York Wine & Spirit Competition in 2017.
How to drink Masons Gin
For a highly refreshing G&T, it is recommended to serve with plenty of ice, premium Indian tonic water and garnishing with a twist of lemon zest.
Alternatively,  Masons Tea Edition is a perfect partner to Fever-Tree Lemon Tonic or Double Dutch Cucumber & Watermelon Tonic. Masons Tea Edition Gin is also an ideal base for the driest of martinis.
There are as many different cocktails that the variety of editions from Masons Gin can be enjoyed with such as:
Strawberry Mai-Tea Gin Cocktail
Naugh-Tea Iced Tea Gin Cocktail
Red Rose Negroni
Tropical Gin Punch
Karl’s Aviation
Summer Punch
Distiller’s Martini
Pear Raiser
What food to eat with Gin
Gin has made a significant comeback recently, inspiring an increasingly popular trend dubbed “ginstronomy,” which refers to the art of gin and tonic food pairings in order to create a uniquely satisfying gastronomic experience.
Seafood is an unbeatable gin and tonic food pairing candidate. Complement the floral and herbal notes in a classic gin and tonic with smoked salmon or gravlax topped with cream cheese and cucumbers.
Strongly flavoured cheeses seasoned with herbs also pair beautifully with gin and tonics. Indulge in Fourme d’Ambert, Camembert, Saint Marcellin, Brique, Manchego, Stilton, or Comté. Nibble these cheeses on their own or topped on crackers, providing a creamy texture and a wonderful earthy tone that is sure to satisfy any G&T lover’s cravings.
Gin makes an excellent palate cleanser for sushi, sashimi and is perfect with a range of berries, charcuterie, nuts, chocolate and anything spicy!
Masons of Yorkshire Distillery
Set on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales in the market town of Bedale, Masons Yorkshire Gin were the first to establish a distillery in Yorkshire back in 2014, the year after they launched. It’s very much a working distillery, housing three 250 litre copper alembic stills which currently distil 5 days per week and are usually surrounded by continual activity since bottling and labelling is also done on-site.
At their state-of-the-art distillery in the heart of Yorkshire, you can discover the magic and marvellousness behind Yorkshire’s favourite gin. Learn the art of distilling, develop your senses with guided tastings of their range or join them for a sophisticated cocktail evening where you will learn the coveted art of mixology - the ultimate gin connoisseur experience!

Brotzeit Launches New Breadtime Sandwiches With Ginstronomy
Brotzeit Philippines is taking its German sausages to another level with its new line of Breadtime Sandwiches that features six mouthwatering variants to choose from. Not only do these new sandwiches come packed with loads of ingredients, toppings, and familiar names, you can also pair them up with some of their craft local and imported gins to make your dining experience truly spectacular.
My friends and I visited the bustling Shangri-La at the Fort branch of Brotzeit last week to try out these new sandwiches that also offer seafood options aside from the usual pork sausages. Brotzeit Philippines is one of the best locations to bring along your officemates or barkada after a tiring day with its colorful selection of German delicacies and beers. Everyday seems to be like Oktoberfest whenever I dine at Brotzeit.
A live sandwich station was set up at the al fresco dining area where we could order our Breadtime Sandwiches prepared by Brotzeit Philippines Executive Chef Ivan Maminta. We could see our sausages being grilled on the spot and transformed into these sumptuous combinations.
Brotzeit literally translates into "bread time” so it is only fitting that Brotzieit Philippines is introducing this new line of savory sandwiches.
Let’s start with something light. The Angela (P490) is a sandwich named after the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel. This is a healthy smoked salmon sandwich that feels more like eating a salad. It’s a good option for lunch or for an afternoon snack, but I think I want something a bit meatier.
Now this is more like it! The Dirk (P450) is Brotzeit’s tribute to the greatest German basketball player ever, the seven-foot Dirk Nowitski. This is a slightly spicy footlong currywurst that extends way over the freshly-baked pretzel baguette it comes with. It is also topped with gherkins and red bell pepper. I don’t mind eating more of the sausage than the bread.
The crowd-favorite that evening would definitely be The Hoff (P390). This is a bacon-wrapped sausage sandwich named after the great David Hasselhoff who is popular for his television roles in Baywatch and Knight Rider. He is also actually a rock star and this sandwich comes with everything that a hungry diner could want. Aside from the smoky bacon, it is also topped with crispy fried onion rings and barbecue sauce.
Here is another long and meaty sandwich called The Von Trapp (P450). This is named after the popular musical, Sound of Music” which was shot in Bavaria. That’s why it comes with a Bavarian beans sausage topped with Gouda cheese, bell pepper, and onions.
On the other hand, the Beethoven (P450) sandwich comes with a symphony of flavors and textures that includes pulled pork spare ribs, onions, and gherkins doused with their Jagermeister sauce. The pulled pork is really a winner and this is a good option for meatlovers who want something else aside from sausages.
As for me, I love seafood and shrimp so I ordered the Helmut (P490). This legendary shrimp sandwich is a tribute to West Germany’s Chancellor Helmut Kohl who paved the way for the reunification with East Germany. I loved how the juicy shrimps popped in my mouth with every bite.
Brotzeit also offers the classic Reuben (P490) sandwich which you can still find on the menu. It comes with generous slices of smoked pastrami on a pretzel bun. It is then served with homemade sauerkraut, spicy mustard, and Emmental cheese. You can also ask for the D-I-Y Sandwich (P290) which your choice of sausage, condiments, plus potato wedges.
A lovely dinner isn’t complete without drinks, so Brotzeit offers its Ginstronomy Station where you can pair your food with a glass or two of their specially-curated gin and tonics. You can order any of these drinks on their regular beverage menu, but the experience is really much better when you can walk up to the G&T station and ask the bartender for his recommended combinations and add-ons.
I first tried the Archipelago Botanical Gin (P450 per shot) with some tonic water. This is produced by a local craft distillery in Laguna and it offers a fresh combination of botanicals and fruits that gives a light and pleasing taste.
You can also try the Del Professore Gin Monsieur (P450 per shot) which is an Italian gin thats goes well with delicate combinations of rosebuds and petals. Brotzeit will be setting up its Ginstronomy station on certain days only so watch out for these dates on their social media pages.
Of course, guests can still go for any of their German beers which can also be combined with fruity selections like lemonade, banana syrup, or mango syrup. We all had a fun and enjoyable evening at Brotzeit and this is definitely a place where you can celebrate special occasions, birthdays, despedidas, or any other excuse to meet up with friends and family. Prost!

Ginstronomy; the art of pairing gin with food
Ginstronomy; the art of pairing gin with food
Ginstronomy; the art of pairing gin with food Just like wine and food matchings, you need to know the taste profiles of both the food and drink you are about to marry. And while gin is not the easiest drink to pair with food, it has its own distinct flavours too that can go together perfectly with the right foods. Faith Kyoumukama @PeopleDailyKE Let’s talk gin… I know its just Thursday, but…
