Ranking the D+LA shows I have seen

I have not seen L-pop or Freeks, or if there’s an even new one that has popped up.

1. Entrelazados

The concept is really cool and nice, and probably the most fledged out d+la show out of all of them. I love the time travel aspect, and the mysteries surrounding it. Season 2 also expanded a LOT on it, and I think season 3 will definitely be very interesting how they do it.

2. Papás por encargo

It used to be my number 1, simply because season 1 is SOOOO wholesome. I wasn't as engaged with S2, even though S2 was really really cute too. I think it's also lower now because THEY REMOVED IT IN EUROPE??? SO I CAN'T WATCH IT ANYMORE UNLESS I HAVE A VPN???

Nonetheless, it's such a wholesome show.

3. Siempre fui yo

Justice for Lumina!!!

Ok, while I love the mystery solving part of this show, the romance plot is a little... well. Lupe and Noah have this really weird on and off relationship where they basically have the most sexual tension imaginable, and then are like "yeah idk if he likes me"...

I love the CONCEPT of S2, where all of them are in this one location and someone's an "impostor". Live for that. I also love that it wasn't a NEW character that was the one betraying them. Usually it's a new character that is sus, but this time it was someone we knew since S1.

4. O Coro

Absolute drug trip, I love it so much. So sad they just removed it from D+

5. Tudo Igual SQN

LOVE the friendships between the girls. If this show was ONLY the girls having slice of life friendship adventures, it would be fine.

BUT THEY HAD TO DO THAT. THEY HAD TO DO THAT.

6. Tierra Icógnita

Cool concept, definitely. Pretty original, even! Love that there's a restaurant called "Creepy Pasta".

I just wasn't too into it to continue.

7. Gina Yei

DON'T WATCH IT. NOTHING HAPPENED. IT WAS SO BORING.

It FELT like a plot was gonna happen, but then it just... DIDN'T? I just waited for something to happen and was left so unsatisfied.

I think out of the ones ive seen Entrelazados is probably my fave with Papas por encargo in 2nd place

Para la joven -egresada del programa de teatro musical de la American Musical and Dramatic Academy-, el escenario y el vivir en el ojo público es algo natural. Su madre es la locutora Deddie Romero, quien comenzó en la música a muy temprana edad, mientras que su abuela es la cantante y percusionista, Sonia López.

Esas figuras tan importantes en su vida son la inspiración de la actriz que en esta edición de Magacín charla sobre sus logros, metas y la forma en que se cuida para cumplir con sus compromisos.

¿Qué representa protagonizar “Gina Yei”?

Al principio, no sabía que era para Disney Plus. Cuando me dijeron, no podía creerlo. Esta experiencia me enseñó que el sacrificio, el esfuerzo y los años educándome, al final, fue lo que me dio una gran oportunidad.

¿En qué se parece el personaje de Gina Yei a ti?

Es muy espontánea, tiene mucha energía. Lo que nos diferencia es la madurez, ya que ella no nació en el ojo público como yo, porque mi familia viene de la música. Fue interesante hacer de Gina, que es como otra versión mía, con las mismas metas y sueños, pero con una trayectoria distinta.

¿Qué consejo les das a quienes te ven en la serie y sueñan estar ahí?

Les diría que no es imposible, no importa de dónde vengas, eso no tiene nada que ver con tus metas y tus sueños, lo que importa es el sacrificio y las ganas. No pasa de hoy para mañana. Hay que trabajar, educarse y saber entrenarte en lo que te guste hacer.

Con una agenda tan cargada, ¿cómo te cuidas?

Cuando estamos enfocados en el trabajo, muchas veces olvidamos cuidar nuestra salud mental. Para cuidarme, en mi día libre siempre trato de no tocar el teléfono, me voy a un spa, me hago las uñas, me quedo viendo series, comiendo “cheesecake” o mantecado y hablo mucho con mi familia.

¿Quién te inspira?

Me inspiran mi mamá y mi abuela porque son mujeres en una industria que está dominada por hombres. Fueron parte de las mujeres que cambiaron perspectiva.

¿Cuál ha sido el mayor logro en tu carrera?

“Gina Yei” y “Six”. Los sueños más grandes que tenía de pequeña, que eran Broadway y Disney, se dieron. Pero, mi mayor logro es representar a mi país de la mejor forma.

¿Cómo ha sido dejar tu isla y tu familia para vivir tu sueño?

Sumamente difícil. Se trata de arriesgarte y de tomar decisiones difíciles para poder lograr lo que quieres hacer, porque quedándote en tu cuarto no vas a hacer nada. Tienes que salir al mundo y vivir. Eso sí, no importa dónde vaya, trato siempre de mantener la cultura. Y, llevo mi bandera de Puerto Rico a todos los camerinos.

¿Cuáles son tus metas?

Cuando pienso en el futuro, tengo miedo pero del bueno, porque he notado -desde que empecé- que las metas se han convertido en logros y los sueños siguen creciendo.

Este 2023 espero que esté lleno de reencuentros, ya sea para el segundo “season” de “Gina Yei” o con otras compañías de teatro. Profesionalmente, aun no he trabajado con Lin Manuel (Miranda) y ese sería uno de mis sueños.

Hello dear internet!

Kamusta? I know, it’s already February and I’m done with my first semester for this year. Next semester, I will finally take up my pre-service teaching and be officially “gradwaiting” (yey confetti). Wow, three years ago I was so giddy with the idea of practice teaching and sharing experiences with students. But two years into this pandemic and that feeling somehow grew a little bit out of me. :( It would’ve been nice and interesting to teach kids in an actual in-person class. Because as someone with enough resources for this new normal learning set up and still struggles, imagine for students who cannot avail the same privilege. And the amount of additional works and problems given to teachers, it actually makes me rethink “should I still go for this?” ('te reality lang talaga). I know certainty is a question, but I’m still hoping for better days. I kept reminding myself that the chance to make the world a little kinder starts with what you can offer. I’m not an angel and I definitely have financial shits to think of. I’m still wondering how far my “ambags” will go. Chariz. (I need money kadi mga mars. I have baby number 2 coming up. pls pabulong naman diyen)

Anyway, here’s a photo I saw on Facebook the other day. And it was something that was stuck in my mind ever since.

It’s not just “grief”. I think it applies in whatever we feel: from pain to passion. Sometimes, the world is bigger than what you think it is, and so are you. Stay safe and sane everyone.
