this is a blanket endorsement of anything kevin, nico, yuki, franco, and oscar do during the race. everyone else sucks. if the ghost of gilles villeneuve appears he gets away with it as well.
#just saying this off the bat bc i'll be drawing a diagram of the race while it happens and won't be able to endorse them actively#baring slurs over the radio and literal homicide ofc#manslaughter is fine tho <3#austin gp 2024#kevin magnussen#nico hulkenberg#yuki tsunoda#franco colapinto#oscar piastri#gilles villenueve#formula 1#f1

Canadian GP win not a very straightforward race insists Verstappen | 2023 Canadian Grand Prix
Canadian Grand Prix winner Max Verstappen says his sixth victory of the season was “really difficult” despite leading from start to finish. Verstappen converted pole position into his fourth consecutive victory at the Circuit de Gilles Villenueve, leading Fernando Alonso over the line by just under 10 seconds after a Safety Car period earlier in the race. Despite dominating the race and never looking troubled out front, Verstappen insisted his afternoon had not been as simple as it may have looked. “It was not a very straightforward race because the tyres were not really getting in their window, the Red Bull driver explained. “It was very cold today compared to Friday and we were sliding around quite a bit.” The win was Verstappen’s 41st grand prix victory of his career and the 100th win for the Red Bull team. Verstappen says he never anticipated reaching such a career tally of wins. “To today win the 100th grand prix for the team, that’s incredible,” he said. “It’s amazing. “I never expected to be on these kind of numbers myself as well, so we keep enjoying, we keep working hard but today has been a great day again.” Gallery: 2023 Canadian Grand Prix in pictures Although leading every lap, Red Bull’s margin of victory was smaller than many it has enjoyed through the 2023 season so far. However, Verstappen says he was not surprised to see Red Bull’s rivals closer to them during the race. “I expected more or less what we had today,” he said. “It was really difficult to just keep the grip and the temperature in the tyres because the grip was disappearing very quickly. That’s why maybe the gap was not that big, but we had a few Safety Cars here and there. But overall we won, that’s the most important.” Alonso said Aston Martin were “hoping to challenge a little bit more the Red Bull” but his race was compromised when Lewis Hamilton beat him off the line. “We lost a place at the start with Lewis and then it was a battle with the Mercedes,” said Alonso. “Lewis was pushing all the race so I didn’t have one lap where I could relax a little bit. So it was an amazing battle.” Advert | Become a RaceFans supporter and go ad-free 2023 Canadian Grand Prix Browse all 2023 Canadian Grand Prix articles via RaceFans - Independent Motorsport Coverage https://www.racefans.net/

piero ferrari, vice chairman of scuderia ferrari:
“in maranello, we’re all with leclerc. one mistake doesn’t change our minds! charles is the symbol of scuderia ferrari’s present and, with sainz, he will gift us a great future!”
“however, let me quickly add something… even champions make mistakes. and it’s not a cliché. schumi, who made our brand’s history, sometimes wasn’t perfect. it happened to lauda as well, to prost and to gilles villenueve…”
“a driver shouldn’t be judged by a single episode. and leclerc, between poles and wins, has widely demonstrated his worth.”

I went to canada and yeah the bag check security wasnt great there either. Im assuming its just a form of crowd control to get people into the venue as fast as possible as for f1 most people will show up at the same time. I went to a music festival on the same site as circuit gilles villenueve and security was much more rigorous (they made me throw out my spray sunscreen, dump my water) but with a festival people will show up throughout the day so its not as crowded and they can probably take extra measures with security. but it is really unsafe lol
oh yeah and there’s defo different difficulties for certain circuits logistically too, but they need to get a better system in place because how close you can get to the circuit to be able to throw whatever on when there’s been no proper bag check or pat down on entry is ridiculous
#i got to silverstone for gates opening was fifth in the queue and there weren’t loads of people behind me#and they still only barely glanced in my bag and the people i watched go through fast track didn’t have anything checked at all#so even when they had the capacity to do checks they weren’t#which is just…..laughable compared to literally all other sporting events or festivals or concerts#asks#anon
