maybe it's just me but i genuinely believe that stay night Gilgamesh is also interesting.
the characterisation of his worse aspects and more unlikeable sides. the more tyrannical, fearsome side that will obtain what he desires at any cost, the side who can be destructive when bored, what he's capable of doing when things lack value to him... fsn doesn't hold back in making him a true antagonist.
stay/night may show sides of Gilgamesh that are ugly and difficult to see, but that's why i also really enjoy this iteration of Gilgamesh. the later iterations add more nuance and give more explanations to Gilgamesh's more unsavory aspects; but in my opinion those sides of Gilgamesh shine so brightly specifically because fsn Gilgamesh was such a nightmare.
to me that's what makes Gilgamesh in CCC all the more powerful. in my personal opinion, fate stay night and zero can show how terrifying and cold he can be when he desires and has interest in someone in a more dehumanising sense, where he plays with them like toys and dangles them around- or they become mere pieces in the pursuit of his grand goals.
CCC shows how massive and huge it is when Gilgamesh gradually lets someone in, valuing them as more than just a 'thing' or a 'treasure to experiment with', how amazing it is when he wholly and fully values them.
this is not a serious post, but simply me just saying that i personally believe the other, more fully fleshed out Gilgamesh forms are so awesome specifically because of how insane fsn Gilgamesh is.
#gilgamesh#fate gilgamesh#gilgablog#gilgapinions#i honestly think ccc gilgamesh sparkles thanks to fsn gilgamesh. thats just my take.

Honestly based on what I am reading I think op's post is being misunderstood. They do not seem to be hating on people for liking Gilgamesh despite him being an asshole. There is not a single sentence that communicates the view that liking Gilgamesh is bad.
To me, this reads on them being an asshole enjoyer but feeling sad that they can't enjoy his asshole side due to him being justfied so often.
This opinon also credits the view that is commonly shared that Gilgamesh can work for a higher goal and as an evil that secretly benefits society. The opinion also recognises that Gilgamesh has good sides too. So it is not dismissing the views of these Gilgamesh fans, they are just sad that openly enjoying his asshole side has gone down.
The post op is clearly saying that their issue is that it feels like the possibility of Gilgamesh sometimes being arbritary or whimsical has decreased and that his messy side is no longer really being acknowledged anymore due to there being such a push to justify Gilgamesh's character both in fanon AND canon.
I get that interpreting one's perspective is tough but I feel sad that op's post is being misconstrued a lot. That is sad to see

to me, Gilgamesh is sort of an unreliable narrator. he has a very lofty image to uphold but still possesses very human needs and wants deep down, regardless of how stoic and self reliant he gives the impression of being. however he is super convincing about it and is extremely powerful which is why his bluffs aren't quite so obvious. he also hides his vulnerable side a lot, often caring m-

i just feel like Gilgamesh's darker aspects work as a beautiful way to understand his multifacted nature more, and make his warmer aspects even more exciting and entrancing to witness. i just think its awesome when a character who can be such a massive threat can also be so charming, protective and caring, too.

Gilgamesh for ask meme!
Hi!!! Thank you for messaging me ☺ I really appreciate it! It's been a long time since I did askmeme on gilgablog so thank you for requesting him (i keep most fate thoughts private)! Sorry I will probably write a whole massive paragraph about him XD
My Gilgamesh opinions are very subjective here so they may not all be accurate, which is why I enjoy this ask a lot ^^
Sexuality Headcanon: I headcanon him as bi/pan, like yeah there's no denying he is also attracted to women, but his devotional relationship with Enkidu and kinky pleasure yuetsu time with Kirei is every bit as canon in my opinion!!!
Even his creepy obsession with Saber really hints to me personally that Gilgamesh may not discern his initial sense of attraction primarily by gender- I believe he may be attracted to people based off intangible traits that link to his personal sense of values as well; which cannot be as simply measured as gender.
So in my opinion GILGAMESH IS RATED E FOR EVERYONE!
Gender Headcanon: Though he is masc, man he/him I also feel as if Gilgamesh's gender is also just 'GILGAMESH'. Sometimes I wonder if Gilgamesh would see himself as beyond the convention of gender.
Also I heard from someone that gender can be very diverse in Ancient Mesopotamia so it would be really cool to see where Gilgamesh would slot his gender identity there... also can his pronouns be king of heroes/ king as well! I feel like he really defines himself by his role more than gender per se, and in one fate hanafuda game he says gender doesn't matter ☺👍
An OTP: ohh I love Gilgamesh ships so much 😊😊 Gilkidu is just so amazing in many ways I cannot even describe, Kotogil is incredible in their twisted dynamic .. and GilHaku is just so beautiful! And I love Gilgamesh x Merlin for the shenanigans... to be honest most Gilgamesh ships are my otp. I even really like Gilgamesh x reader/ oc fics and Ritsuka/ Guda ones depending on what the ocs are like! Oh I also like Gilgamesh x Cu as they can clash head on and go wild, as well as Gilgamesh x Ozymandias!
And a mutual introduced me to Achilles x Gilgamesh. I think it is a beautiful pairing as they have so much grief, love, power and arrogance in common.
A NOTP: I'm sorry Gilgamesh x Saber fans. I respect those who ship it but Gilgamesh is such a creep to Saber in my opinion, I like it when she doms him to smithereens and stomps on his pride though ☺🥳🥳🥳
BROTP: This is a hard one as I feel like his otps can be good otps, but seeing him hang out with Iskandar is always hilarious. Love how he actually listens to Taiga in the spin off games as well, so they could maybe enjoy a few drinks together. And Gilgamesh/Solomon/Merlin makes for great chaos.
Gilgamesh/Siduri/Enkidu is a powerful alliance and err what else... I feel like as long as they can entertain one another then Gilgamesh has the potential for many BROTPS.
Random Headcanon: He has golden nipple tassels that he unleashes whenever he has an urge to go full sexy, also I feel like though yes he does love pleasure and decadent desires the way he so tightly constrains and punishes himself sometimes makes me wonder if some of his hedonism is also used as a way to appear as an overwhelming figure to others.
I feel like Gilgamesh is definitely tyrannical and extremely powerful and charismatic... yet also has a side to him that is insecure as hell, his larger than life and genuine powerful and wise sides overcompensating for a side of him that is plagued with all sorts of self loathing and grief.
General opinion: I love this asshole!!!!!!!! Endless joy can be created from researching his character and reading, watching his materials, he is entertaining in such a wide variety of ways, and every side of him is a marvel to witness (though i wanna punch him sometimes too cuz holy crap is he horrendous at times).
He's a very complex and nuanced character that can be interpreted in a wide variety of ways so I am really irritated by how some people try to gatekeep Gilgamesh's character and throw him into a box, when Gilgamesh is such a versatile character! I hope that there will continue to be a space where people can enjoy Gilgamesh in as many different ways as possible, without there having to be some sort of 'fandom consensus' on which Gilgamesh opinions are most valid.

I would like to say a counterpoint though.
Although Hakuno does jump through endless hoops for Gilgamesh, even risking evisceration when entering his innermost zones,
what really strikes me is that they don't like just 'save gilgamesh'. Nope. Hakuno also goes on their OWN journey of developing a sense of self, a strong will to withstand some terrible trials and learns of their own kind of power and worth.
to the point where even GILGAMESH has to acknowledge Hakuno's sheer will of self and grit in even the toughest of odds.
Hakuno doesn't just 'save' Gilgamesh, they also save themselves; too. In my opinion that's why it works. Cuz yeah Hakuno sadly does have to go through all sorts of hoops to develop a healthier balance with Gilgamesh, however they also really come into their own power and personal journey as well. Their whole self is not Gilgamesh's in my opinion XD
i love gilhaku as much as the next person but i enjoy it because its fictional. like i adore how by endgame and later on he repays their endless effort, grit and spirit by serving them with all of his heart and even using most of his treasures to save them, and growing into a wiser and more likeable asshat who really makes clear how much he treasures them.
but the whole shenanigans that hakuno goes through to even reach that lol, he had them jumping through huge ass hoops and massive laser beam encrypted zones. i only enjoy it cuz its fictional, i do get a lil worried when its idealised though personally. like homie pls dont jump thru so many hoops for love, it only works because of how well done the plot was in extra/ccc and seeing hakuno go through their massive trials for the sake of deepening bond with gilgamesh is interesting to learn about, but damn it's as if they had to do the 12 labours of heracles just to peek into his heart

i think the real question i'd love to ask is 'would caster gilgamesh be as violent and cruel as archer gilgamesh if he too manifested in the 4th and 5th fuyuki holy grail war?'
i personally think comparing both gils is very difficult because of how different their circumstances are. to me, it's like putting the same man in two different environments. what i'd love to consider is whether caster would or wouldn't have behaved in the same way in the fuyuki incidents. personally, i think he would've... i feel like he's only tamer because he has a duty to serve as a wise king now; and carries the needs of his people on his back. can't quite fuck around as much when he's saddled with responsibility.
thats my 2 cents XD
#gilgablog#op speaks#gilgapinions#i wanted to write my own perspective separately as the og posts seemed very heated and angry

i think the reason why i calmed down so much as a gilgamesh fan as the years went on is because the aspects of Gilgamesh that deeply unsettled and unnerved me eventually became resolved in my heart. his many contradictions and juxtaposing traits were pretty hard for me to wrap my head around at first.
I struggled to reconcile myself with how complex and multi-faceted he is, but after my many years running the gilgablog- i realised that's actually what makes him kinda cool -and weirdly very humanistic- in a sense-for he isn't as fixed nor indomitable as he presents himself to be.
there is a beating heart behind the concept of this unshakeable ruler. a personality that has flaws and makes many mistakes, despite his vast intelligence and many skills. a personality that desires selfishly; claiming all as the arbiter of all desires- yet can also restrain himself to an almost self-sacrificial degree- often based off his own perspective of what he shall and shan't do, which makes for a wonderful contrast in personality.
by accepting that Gilgamesh is akin to a diamond with many faces; hence why his portrayal varies so vastly and immensely depending on the circumstances and situations he's in-i grew to appreciate his character a lot more over time.
even mc. gold bitch slorping grail juice saber hater from Fate Stay Night has grown on me a little bit (it's gonna be a riot seeing his nightmarish self in the remake once i finally get my hands on it).
it made it easier to cope with gilgamesh discourse too, for it would make sense for many different people to see him in many different ways, so eventually i realised that maybe i'll be on my own with my gilgapinions sometimes.
there's an aspect of gilgamesh for anybody to relate to in my opinion. i believe he feels and experiences such a rich variety of emotions through a great deal of circumstances that even i was able to resonate with at times.
#on that note goodnight AS SAID IN THE WORDS OF SAKATA KINTOKI'S RIDER NOBLE PHANTASM#gilgablog#op speaks#gilgapinions#long post#wah... i sound like an ossan who sat next to gilgamesh and then went 'alright thanks king' and popped off

i think that is my problem when it comes to gilgamesh in fate series. sadly contrasting opinions on his various aspects are not given enough room to co-exist; and i just think that's a real shame, cuz i feel like nobody is wrong either.
gilgamesh is complex enough to be multiple things at the same time. a person who is intelligent and wise can also be arrogant and childish too. it is possible to be multiple things at the same time, depending on one's role, circumstances, situation and station in life.

what if gilgamesh's core is a paradoxical character? what if gilgamesh's inconsistency may also stem from an internal conflict between competing desires, that fluctate and flip based off individual circumstances? what if gilgamesh responds to situations using a different criteria to most humans, weighing and judging every action from a lens that covers all sorts of perspectives and bits of foresight/ knowledge that may not be considered typically? he does know a lot from his abilities, and sometimes acts in line with his wisdom or even goes against it for entertainment. he's so random yet there can also be a method to his randomness.
im not apologising on the character's behalf... but i feel like gilgamesh's many confusing parts and how he can be the same man yet mould himself accordingly for each and every role is also an interesting point of analysis.
#op speaks#gilgablog#gilgapinions#i dont think this character faces the same kind of personality limits as a human may do... its a thought only#fate gilgamesh

king of crossed arms and impenetrable walls :3
I get that there are many reasons as to why Gilgamesh vehemently tries to shut out close relationships- chiefly in relation to the heartbreaking grief of losing Enkidu, the one he deems as his 'only friend'. Though Gilgamesh has shown that he can also forge bonds with those other than Enkidu, I was also wondering as to possible additional reasons as to why Gilgamesh is so dead-set on walling off anyone who as so much dares to uncover his unfurling depths.
(By the way, I don't mean this as Gilgamesh not engaging in relationships with anyone, cuz I am sure he is in many kinds of situations and relationships with many people- just that when it comes to letting others get super close to him, he seems to do a lot to smack them away; or use everything in his arsenal to prevent them from reaching that point in the relationship with them.)
This is just another Gilgathought, but like asides from the few people Gilgamesh lets in to the sides beneath his strict, lofty, egotistical image that he ever-so-carefully curates for himself... what if he also walls off others you know, out of a feeling that he's too cruel, too distant, too hard to be understood- so he shoves everyone else out, crushing them beneath his feet as 'mere mongrels' instead?! (Took me a while to figure this out lol.)
I feel as if one trait I have noticed from people Gilgamesh grows close to in fate is that they tend to be people who can take him on at full power, or who can even embrace the darkest aspects of their own humanity or humanity in general, who are open minded to difference as well. There are many other things as well, but my mind has gone blank (lmao).
It makes me wonder if Gilgamesh may be scared of rejection so he rejects others first. He's the judge, jury and executioner- and if you so much as BREATHE close to the vulnerable mass quivering beneath his massive ego, he may either kill you or push you away- to remind one of how they should be beneath, in a position that is so far away from his towering throne.
Like with Hakuno Kishinami. He really puts them through their paces, it's like he's consistently testing the depths of their mettle, which to me personally feels like he is weighing up whether they can handle him and accept him?!! Like I still remember in the 'Gilgamesh Secret Garden' segments (especially part 60), there was one where Hakuno was more or less annihilated by Gilgamesh's internal defence system before the king finally let her in, vowing to protect her with his very life.
Man's defences are HUGE.
This is a wild Gilgamesh thought. Not sure how accurate it is, but I do feel like though yes, Gilgamesh pushes many away due to grief, and in regards to the trauma of losing his dearest beloved Enkidu, this theory could still apply- as Enkidu was the one who had the prowess to not only take on Gilgamesh at his fullest. But they could also wholly relate to the feeling of being a tool, of being one who is at the whims and mercy of the gods.
In other words, they were able to really get Gilgamesh and his many layers. Like a true equal he could just let it all out around.
And I wonder if Gilgamesh yearns to be understood deep down, so will do all kinds of bullshit to punch away those who try to get close him; because of how vulnerable that yearning would make him. He can't exactly be so lofty from the top when someone can comprehend his mighty depths, after all.
#gilgablog#gilgapinions#archer gilgamesh#fate series#this is just a theory#aka 'oh crap i just realized!'#gilgamesh#fate gilgamesh#fgo#i just think. to rule above others like gilgamesh does he'd have to seem unattainable. unreachable.

My theory is that Gilgamesh has a fourth-wall awareness exclusively used for detecting when there's a Fate game, and entering said Fate game, because he desires The Attention. He let Fate/Apocrypha slip past... Never again...
Hello!!! And lmao that is hilarious XD Gilgamesh using his special abilities to insert himself into as many fate titles as possible is a great concept. He really knows how to get the attention at all and any costs.

i think the Gilgamesh blog was a good experience. i learnt how to make edits, i shared some art, got to speak to many interesting people, learnt many different perspectives, and got to improve my writing by taking on daring new fanfiction requests. if it wasn't for the requests on here; wouldn't have made NSFW fanfiction which is so funny cuz my nsfw is more popular 🤣🤣
it was also very turbulent and dramatic but the skills learnt were worthwhile.
