GILGAMESH + THENA / @devilwomcn SETTING The Domo; 2026
He cannot explain why he has chosen to trust these visitors, these fellow creations of Arishem. Or why he believes them when they spill out their truth, the lies they have been fed for a millennium. Gilgamesh cannot explain why this woman in white feels more familiar to him than any member of his own family. He does not know what compels him to follow them–her–aboard their ship, an uncanny resemblance to the one that had brought him to the new planet he is supposed to protect. It is familiar in another way too. As though he has been here once in a dream.
He does know one thing. He knows that the first time his eyes settled on the visiting warrior–Thena, she introduced herself almost in tears–his heart felt whole for the first time. And he had not even known that he had only had half a heart until that moment.
Arishem be damned. If what these Eternals say is true, that Gilgamesh had a life, had a love, had a whole heart in his chest, before being dropped on a husk of a planet riddled with deviants–an enemy he had defeated before but cannot, now, not remember–then why should he stay? “Why?” he asks himself. Asks his crew. Asks Thena.
Thena. His heart races when he catches her alone in the familiar belly of the Domo. He had not meant for this to be their first encounter, he simply meant to watch. But his feet move too heavily, his footsteps echoing in the cavernous space, and he draws her attention. Suddenly he is unsure how to speak, if he even has the ability. “Hello,” is the first word he speaks to her without the watchful eyes of Druig and Makkari. “Druig tells me that you and I have quite a history.”
