New Scotland Yard: Shadow of a Deadbeat (2.6, LWT, 1972)
"Anything wrong?"
"Anything wrong? She knows how to contact Eddie Moffett, you can bet your life on it!"
"I'm betting Lee Collins' life on it."
"She's gonna go to the nearest phone and she's gonna tell Eddie just where Collins is."
"That's right."
"It's too dangerous."
"Oh, it's been dangerous ever since Moffett pulled that trigger!"

Star Spangled Rhythm
1942 ‧ Musical/Comedy ‧ 1h 39m
Star Spangled Rhythm is a 1942 American all-star cast musical film made by Paramount Pictures during World War II as a morale booster. Many of the Hollywood studios produced such films during the war, generally musicals, frequently with flimsy storylines, and with the specific intent of entertaining the troops overseas and civilians back home and to encourage fundraising – as well as to show the studios' patriotism. This film was also the first released by Paramount to be shown for 8 weeks.
William Webster (Victor Moore) was once a big-time silent film star. But in the age of talkies, he's a mere security guard for Paramount Studios. His sailor son, Johnny (Eddie Bracken), however, thinks his dad is a major executive. Now, with Johnny visiting, William must carry out the illusion that …

A woman loses her phone on her way back to her countryside childhood home. Once there, she connects an old landline in hopes of finding her lost mobile, only to start receiving weird calls that seem to be from 20 years ago.
On the other side of the receiver is a girl who seems to be in danger. The Call is thrilling, sometimes scary, but also brilliantly shot, and its plot is so expertly woven. It’s a proper movie-night movie.
Apollo 10½: A Space Age Childhood (2022)
Genre: Adventure, Animation, Comedy, Drama, Family, History, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Science Fiction
Actor: Bill Wise, Brian Villalobos, Buzz Aldrin, David DeLao, Glen Powell, Holt Boggs, Jack Black, Janis Joplin, Jennifer Griffin, Jessica Brynn Cohen, John F. Kennedy, Josh Wiggins, Keslee Blalock, Larry Jack Dotson, Lee Eddy, Milo Coy, Mona Lee Fultz, Neil Armstrong, Nick Stevenson, Richard Nixon, Samuel Davis, Walter Cronkite, Zachary Levi
Director: Richard Linklater
Rating: PG-13
Narrated by the familiar voice of Jack Black, Apollo 10 ½ is a throwback story told with admirable specificity and imagination. Black plays a grown-up Stan, who looks back on his younger years with a mix of fondness and wonder: how did they get away with the things they did then? American suburbia in the 1960s was both loose and conservative, caught between a generation holding on to the reins of the earlier century and one eager to launch into the next.
Stan, as the youngest child of a big, rowdy family, gives us a charming look into the times, as well as a projection of his own fascination: Apollo 11 and the space age. He inserts himself in this monumental narrative and generously brings us along in his fantasy. Sometimes it’s hard to tell whether Stan’s recruitment by NASA is actually fact or fiction, but that’s part of the fun, especially since Stan himself doesn’t seem to mind at all.

They Cloned Tyrone is a genre-bending gem. It combines Deep State conspiracy theories with sci-fi and social commentary, all while looking like a futuristic 1970s Blaxploitation film. It’s outrageous good fun and pleasing to look at (here is a film that knows how to properly light Black actors), but there are times when it feels too far fetched. The science can get wonky and its commentary on gentrification lacking, but all is forgiven when you have such a strong trio of leads. One of the smartest things They Cloned Tyrone does is pair Boyega with Teyonah Parris, who plays the call girl Yo-yo, and Jamie Foxx, who plays the pimp Slick Charles. They have a fun-loving no-nonsense chemistry about them that makes them easy to attach to and root for. They’re also just very funny, which might be expected of Foxx but it comes as a pleasant surprise for Parris, whose popular turns in Mad Men and WandaVision prove that she’s been severely underutilized as a comic.

Snowpiercer is an under-the-rader post-apocalyptic thriller that offers the grittiness that many times only Asian cinema may achieve. South Korean director Joon-ho Bong forces audiences to forget that Chris Evans was ever a Marvel superhero, as he leads a revolt of his fellow “low-class” citizens against the self-appointed gentry in a train that contains all remaining members of the planet. With immersive environments and a layered script, this film melds together social commentary and moral discourse in a visually arresting and vastly entertaining package.

Director Bong Joon-ho (Snowpiercer) does something quite amazing with the $50 million budget Netflix gave him: he makes a simplistic movie. But man, is it good. Okja tells the story of a “super pig” experiment that sends genetically modified pigs to top farmers around the world. In Korea, a farmer’s granddaughter forms a special relationship with one of these super pigs (Okja). When the company who originally ran the experiment want their pig back (performances by Jake Gyllenhaal and Tilda Swinton) – the two find an ally in an animal advocacy group led by Jay (Paul Dano). This is a straightforward movie, but nevertheless it is entertaining and full of thought-provoking themes and performances from an excellent cast.

"Sleep intimacy" and "stranded due to inclement weather" for Anne/Gilbert
“It’s a good thing Mrs. Enoch Sutherland is known to be such a fine housekeeper,” Anne said, rubbing her hands along her arms and trying, unsuccessfully, not to shiver. Gilbert glanced up at her from the hearth where he was trying, similarly unsuccessfully thus far, to get any kindling to catch. The room was lit only by the pale blue winter moonlight which might have given him an unearthly air, but it was Gilbert, so even pale with cold, there was a wholesome, human ruddiness in every line and lineament and tousled curl.
“Why?”
“Because everyone will believe it when we say we found both spare rooms aired, the linen spotless, plenty of wood and candles and even a fresh loafer in the larder with her peach preserves,” Anne explained, now stamping her feet a little in her soaked boots. It had seemed perfectly reasonable to leave Redmond a day early when her exams were finished, perfectly reasonable to walk back to the Avonlea station when conductor stopped three miles off, perfectly reasonable to let Gilbert take up his carpetbag and hers and as two old friends, make their way home, every choice one Marilla would nod over and Mrs. Rachel Lynde approve until the storm whipped up, pelting them with the wet snow of the early winter, before the deep freezes set it and then it was apparent that if they didn’t find shelter right away, there’d be no reasonable arguments to make ever again. Catching sight of the Sutherland place, one she’d only ever seen while passing by in the trap, had seemed like a miracle and Anne wasn’t one to squander a miracle.
Gilbert raised an eyebrow at her and she shrugged, as best she could.
“I do hate to tell a lie—”
“A lie? Singular?” he said, fiddling with paper and twig, biting back a curse under his breath. “I must have missed those peach preserves—”
“But I hate to have to have the Pyes ruin the holiday and upset Marilla for no reason at all,” Anne went on. “It could have been true and that’s close enough, isn’t it, Gil?”
“I’ll tell you what’s close enough,” he said, the fire finally catching. “We’re close enough to catching our death of cold for real, Anne, with this storm come on so sudden. There’s no way we can leave the parlor tonight. But you needn’t worry about me—”
“I’m not worried. I know you’ll be a perfect gentleman,” she said.
“Anne, I can’t get the fire much bigger than it is with the wood we have,” he said. “We’ll need to bundle up to stay warm tonight. Together.”
“Oh,” she said. Gilbert looked both practical and apologetic, but she didn’t miss the fear in his hazel eyes—that she would argue with him? Or that she’d agree? Was it fear or hope?
“I only found the one quilt upstairs,” Anne said. “Will that do?”
“It’ll have to,” Gilbert said.
In the morning, curled up with her head pillowed on what turned out to be Gilbert’s arm, his other snug around her waist, and his breath warm on the back on her neck, the quilt tucked neat around them like Marilla’s pie crust, Anne woke to find it did indeed do. And that she could not quite regret that Mrs. Enoch was given to boasting.

everytime you post a yello wstone gifset im really filled with regret and rage not at you but at what the show could have been I truly don't care about that Kevin coaster family or anything at all the show should have been about the res, thomas rainwater, etc etc
Sorry for the late reply! And yeah, it feels bizarrely overdue to have any actual contentious land disputes & fleshed out Native characters— it seems* like the other main Native female role is Kelsey Chow being the tragic exemplification of tragic statistics around Native women, somehow isolated or exiled from the rez herself, married to the tragic outcast White Family's son who's been booted from the big house, and mother to a tragic biracial child. And Gil sits around looking real concerned while Mo drives him around so he has someone with whom to make meaningful ethnic eye contact.
*I say "seems" because I've actually gone pretty far out of my way NOT to watch the show, I know other Native actors have had cameos in the same way as Longmire was the last big "modern white western with a revolving door of one-guest-star-per-week Native talent" at the rodeo (similar to how 24 was the revolving door for Middle Eastern, North African, and South Asian actors to play terrorist and/or terrorist's victim of the week— and both these kinds of typecasting serve American nationalist mythmaking propaganda, warping even positive, but still 2 dimensional, ethnic caricatures in the service of a white hero/"complex" antihero).
All of which is a digression but Afghanistan looms large right now for obvious reasons and the parallels between Keifer Sutherland profiting off glorifying "the war on terror" while Kevin Costner grimly scowls his way into bank by promoting the same kind of bullshit heroes of the frontier American individualism Manifest Destiny nonsense (spoiler alert: Yellowstone's been greenlit for an 1800s era prequel series establishing the family's uninterrupted settlement of their ranch next to Yellowstone).
ANYWAY. My point being... maybe I'm wrong. Maybe, idk, Gil has secret depths or something. (Kelsey definitely doesn't lol, I'm not saying that to be a hater, I'm saying I watched the episodes I clipped at 5-10x speed and her plot was entirely trying to convince her sad husband to reconcile with his angry ass family, and then trying to investigate a murderer/being stalked and almost killed by that same man in an isolated field for a pithy MMIW plot moment.) But I doubt it!
And it seems like people involved on the show have good intentions. Even if Angela's relegated to being a sort of one-note vampy Wicked Indian Woman, the monologue they gave Q'orianka was slamming! Somebody put in some work on that, and I'm choosing to enjoy that before it inevitably gets shut down in a "LandBack evil, Kevin Costner good" moment, probably by Gil or Mo's own hand. And white audiences sure do seem to enjoy the white characters. But I don't trust the show (soon to be its own franchise with the upcoming spinoff series) as a whole, and I don't like or appreciate the way Indigenous & Black chars are relegated to background texture and Greek chorus mirroring the "proper" emotional reactions to Costner & co. if not literal property to be moved around the set until the writers need to set up a villain to mirror a real world political movement (remember how people called out the writing & design for the Flag Smashers in Falcons & Winter Soldier? same diff y'all) as pins to be knocked down by the face of Western Expansion macho white man with a gun might makes right bullshit, even if fans think it's groundbreaking because Blonde Woman Defies Patriarch in Dysfunctional Home.

I’m loving Prodigal Son so far; I agree with not loving the case of the week but I was afraid that was all it was going to be so I’m thrilled. Two quick things-1 I had a dream that the season finale is Malcom being committed which would be something if Martin also escapes and 2 can we get a Kiefer Sutherland guest role? Would love him and LDP together again
I hope Malcolm isn’t committed, scrolling through the Prodigal Son tag right now is bad enough, what with eighty billion whining that it’s a rip off of Hannibal. If Malcolm was committed/went to prison it would never end. I *do* hope/predict that Dr. Whitly will escape at some point; mostly because keeping Michael Sheen cooped up in prison seems like such a waste, and it would be interesting seeing Malcolm try to catch him.
I would kill to see Kiefer guest star as Gil’s old partner on the force.

BODY FOUND IN SYNDICATE SUBORDINATE’S ESTATE
An article from this morning’s Mythril Eye:
Late last evening, stonemasons tore down a wall in the long-missing Mikael Sutherland’s estate. Sutherland, who disappeared during the 4th Astral Moon following his disastrous house party, has long been presumed to have eloped with the Pearl of Ul’Dah – who miraculously reappeared after her own disappearance 3 years ago.
The Pearl of Ul’Dah was a high profile escort of Madame Liliane’s House of Sundries, and was one of the most expensive and sought after escorts in Ul’Dah – waitlists to secure a date with her were six moons long. Her sudden disappearance 3 years ago was a subject of intense gossip, as was her inexplicable appearance at Sutherland’s party six moons prior. The Pearl was long presumed dead, as no evidence could be found of where she’d vanished to.
Sutherland disappeared after his house party – inexplicable mishaps creating a huge mess made his party a complete flop, and most agreed he’d eloped with the Pearl of Ul’Dah – which offered a reasonable explanation for both their disappearances following the event.
However, for the past six moons servants in the estate have long complained of a smell of rot in Sutherland’s private chambers, and attempts to clear the room of the offending odor, which had left the estate unsellable, were ineffective. Finally, stonemasons were called to tear down walls in the room to locate the potential source – a hidden cell was located behind one wall, and the decaying remains of a body were discovered.
Despite the state of the head, which appears to have been bludgeoned beyond recognition, servants were able to identify the body as that of Mikael Sutherland.
The Syndicate, Brass Blades, and Immortal Flames are all currently cooperating in the investigation of his death, and are currently requesting anyone who was present at the fateful party six moons ago to present witness statements. They have also called for any information regarding the Pearl of Ul’Dah’s whereabouts. No statement has been issued regarding the Pearl’s status as a suspect, however the Syndicate has offered a 2 million gil reward for information leading to the Pearl’s location.
