hello! this list was quite literally revealed to me in a dream just now...which means now you all have to read it. happy holidays. a gift for you.

i read RWRB when it released, but started reading rwrb fics earlier this year during some tough titty times...and have since discovered a gorgeous community of folks just pouring their hearts out into the fandom fabric, giving me the courage to start putting bits of my work out there as well. here are some of the works that were present in my life at VERY roop-specific moments this year:

Six Sentence Sunday

Greetings, my dearest loves. So...I find myself in a bit of a block right now, where I CAN write, but it feels like I'm walking uphill through quicksand to do it, and I'm convinced that all of it is garbage. So if y'all have any extra special words that might change my mind and maybe pull me from this funk, I would greatly appreciate it.

That being said, I do currently have...about 10? or so different WIPs in varying states of disarray living in my docs from which to choose a Six Sentence Sunday snippet, and this one I actually did write this week, while in the throes of this Writer's Block.

This little piece is from my upcoming song inspired fic, Come Back to Me, which is a gift I've been meaning to give @thinkof-england for literal months now and is almost finished.

Dream scenario, be damned. The spark of Henry’s mouth on his is more than he ever could have dreamt, in a million versions over countless years. It consumes him entirely, burning away the charred remains of what was left of his heart the night that Henry left to expose the still-beating organ beneath. It’s a flood, pulling him under the waves and daring him to come up for air, a request he doesn’t ever plan on honoring. It’s the storm still raging outside the windows, a spiderweb of lightning spreading across the sky above before an angry clap of thunder expresses its impatience at being asked to wait as they dance together in the heavens, never one without the other. It’s Henry who pulls back first, breathless, pressing his forehead firmly into Alex’s and inhaling deeply through his nose, eyes closed, as if committing every detail of this moment to memory.

Where are you staying and when should I meet you?” Or, Henry broke up with Alex when he stormed the castle, then booty calls him months later at Paris Fashion Week.

The universe said, “you thought things were getting better? Bet.” And threw me the week(end) from the ninth circle of hell. But we persevere, and I’m happy to say that the anniversary fic needs a few more lines of aftercare and then some bracket filling and it should be ready. Here’s a few sentences from that!

a gift for @villiageidiot as part of our annual snowflak fic exchange which has been one of the highlights of my year these past three years 💖

Henry has many regrets in his life, but leaving the ice rink after a literal run in with the potential love of his life without even obtaining his name may be his biggest. With his family visiting for the holidays for the first time and ever-present work deadlines looming, he's too busy to think about how to engineer his own happy ending worthy of the novels he edits.

But what if fate has other ideas?

Director's Cut: you must know I'm gonna ask about Octo!Henry. I am who I am.

MY BELOVED OCTOHENRY -- rambling about him is a fucking gift, @kiwiana-writes, and I thank you for this.

So, two decisions happened in pretty rapid succession at the end of last September -- first, I decided that I was going to participate in Kinktober, and second, that I was absolutely not going to waste the opportunity to use the "tentacles, consentacles" tag double-whammy on Ao3. From there, I very quickly connected with a friend on Discord who, as it turns out, knows a fuckton about octopi. With their assistance, I went down my first research rabbit hole about things like:

How octopi reproduce

Which species of octopi do not yeet their octopeens (hectocotyli) at their mates and flee the scene so they don't get eaten

Of these very few species that aren't prone to flinging their dicks like wiggly, suckered javelins, which were the prettiest/flashiest

And then a deep dive into the prettiest species of non-tentacock-lobbing octopi to narrow it down to one: the blue-ringed octopus (AKA the spiciest boi).

I had a couple assumptions right out of the gate: Alex would be just as clueless in this fic as he is in canon, for one. This allowed me to have Henry drop some really obvious hints that he's Not From Around Here while Alex is still just so awestruck by how pretty his new friend is that he completely sails past the hints. For two, once he figured it out, Alex was going to have his crisis about attraction to men and men with tentacles (or at least Hentacles?) faster than Usain Bolt can run the 100m dash. This second piece was a bit of a necessity since I was cranking out a new smut fic every day during that month, so there was no time for additional world building or angsting about Alex's new partner not having legs at the time.

While writing the smut, I read a lot of Actual Scientific Research on octopi in general and specifically on blue-ringed octopi to make sure I wasn't totally making shit up. In the process, I learned so many fun facts about the blue-ringed octopus, including:

Male/male mating is not uncommon -- several sources suggest that male blue-ringed octopi have no preference for the sex of their mating partners.

Their skin is soft and very slick; it's coated in a slippery substance that protects them from bacteria and also allows them to slip into narrow spaces easily. 😏

The blue rings only really show up boldly when they're aroused (horny, excited, or scared). Otherwise, depending on the subspecies of blue-ringed octopus, the rings are either faintly visible or look sort of brownish.

You really don't want to touch blue-ringed octopi IRL unless you're super into being poisoned to death. (This translated into Henry being really into spicy human foods. 🤣)

Sperm packets (spermatophores) are an Actual Thing that's common across a lot of invertebrates, including octopi and squids -- Alex saying “You didn’t mention that your cum had texture,” is because he wasn't expecting there to be any sort of structure to Henry's octojizz.

I also flagrantly ignored the thing where once a male blue-ringed octopus has successfully mated, he dies, because again -- octoHenry is my beloved.

I'll stop here, but I could literally talk about octoHenry for hours! I'm so excited to start working on the sequel this fall. 🥰🐙

WIP Wednesday

Thanks for so many tags! Today I'm sharing some of my favorite dialogue I've ever written—if you're in the Brownstone server you may have already seen this.

It's a snippet from @affectionatelyrs birthday fic ("Gonna Save Me, Call Me Baby"), which will be shared next Thursday, but someone was a dick to her so I decided to give her an early sneak peak.

Henry shudders, thinking about Mary Mountchristen around sharp objects. No, thank you. “Even if I wanted to give her a gift—and I don’t—she’d find some reason to be horribly offended by them.” “Offended?” Alex’s face contorts in confusion—it’s quite charming, Henry thinks. But then again, he thinks he might find everything about Alex charming. “By knives?” “I mean, I think it has more to do with my mere presence,” Henry muses, leaning back against his front door. “She might worry that I’d infect them with my gayness. But, I suppose it’s also possible she might think I was implying that her collection of silver cutlery is somehow inferior to a modern set. And she’s not a great fan of modernity.” “Well,” Alex casually starts, though there’s a fierce look in his eyes. “I’m not a great fan of anyone who’s a dick to you.”

Hehe, I'm nice and early so I'm gonna tag the shit out of a few people! After sharing my Sunday Six, of course, so here's a bit of my Christmas fic for you!

He’d missed two calls from Nora, vaguely feeling his phone buzz in his pocket, but he’d been too enthralled to care. All he could think about was getting Henry out of that stupid costume and into his bed. He hadn’t even hesitated to approach him as soon as the gift-giving event was over and Henry hadn’t really thought twice about the offer either, accepting immediately. Alex had expected to take him home, fuck him until neither of them could feel their legs and then send the guy on his way. What he hadn’t expected was the massive, uncut cock and the fucking nipple ring.

I'm giving y'all a white elephant gift exchange fic for this holiday season - enjoy this snippet from the cold open of Gonna Give You Something (So You Know What's on My Mind)

Henry, to put it as succinctly as possible, is so bloody confused. “If you want a pair so badly, buy ‘em yourself, Holleran!” Alex shouts. Nora groans, stretching forward to attempt to grab the lingerie out of Alex’s hand as he raises it further above his head. “But these ones are free. And sexy too—nice pick, Pez.” Pez blows Nora an air kiss, dramatically extending his hand outwards. “Thanks, sweet cheeks.” Alex pretends to gag. “God, do not use the word sexy when it’s within a degree of separation from my sister, please and thank you.” June shrugs her shoulders from across the circle, making eyes at Nora. “I dunno. I do think that they’d look better on her.” At that, Alex leaps up from his cross-legged position on the floor and covers his ears with his hands, the lace of the underwear getting pressed between his hand and face. “Gah! My ears! Someone make it stop!” Nora grabs Alex’s ankle, trying to trip him back onto the floor. “Only if you hand. Them. Over. Alejandro.”

What else is he supposed to do, when Officer Reyes struts around scenes like the utility belt slung around his hips it’s weighted? TK generally prides himself on having a good radar and he will eat his metaphorical hat if Officer Reyes is not queer. No straight man would bother having his uniform tailored for a fit like that.

Fake Dating/College AU !!

Fake Dating/College AU - it's the only one so far that I've made an outline for because I think it'll be long-ish 😂

4. Which WIP is your favourite to write/the most enjoyable to write? Why?

Right now it's my Vampire Henry fic ❤️ enjoying it because I'm not struggling too much to write it - and the ideas have been coming easily 😌

5. Which WIP do you find the most intimidating to write? Why?

ooo probably the two canon divergence ones? mostly because they'll probably be the fics with the most angst - yikes

6. Which WIP do you experience the most self-doubt about. Why?

gosh - all of them? I haven't published new fanfic in over 6 years so it's definitely been nerve wracking even sharing snippets over here for wip wednesday 😅

7. Which of your WIPs will you seek out a beta/sensitivity reader for? Why?

Maybe for the longer fics? I'm not sure if I will! We'll see if I ever get to writing anything long enough 😬 I am sort of warming up to the idea of google doc cheerleaders? I dno, I'm such a slow writer though so it might stress me out 😂

8. Have any of your WIPs been struck by the curse of writer's block?

yess the Roommates/College AU - this was the first rwrb fic I started all the way back in June LAST YEAR 😭 I wrote bits and pieces of the first two chapters and still haven't picked it back up since 😩 I've also hit writer's block with the 5+1 - I thought this would be the first fic I'd publish for rwrb AND the first fic I'd ever finish but I got triggered when writing one of the scenes which shocked me because I didn't expect it to? I'd even say this fic is light-hearted but yeah I had to stop. Hoping to finish writing that one after Vampire Henry though !!!

9. Which WIP has your favourite OC? Tell us about them?

ooo so far the only fic with an OC is Fake Dating/College AU but I can't say more without spoiling 👀

10. Which WIP is the sexiest?

Everything is such bare bones atm, so I truly don't know 😂

11. Which WIP is the angstiest?

Probably Canon Divergence from Kensington 😅😅😅

12. Which WIP has the best characterisation (in your humble opinion)?

Hoping the characterisation is ok on all of them but right now they're all so short still that I can't pick one out 🙃

13. Which WIP has the best scene setting (in your humble opinion)?

Gosh I am BAD at this - will probably end up being the Coffee Shop AU because cafes are my second home but we'll see 😅

14. Which WIP have you worked the hardest on?

As of right now - been working the hardest on Vampire Henry fic but I anticipate it'll be outdone by Fake Dating/College AU - that one will take me a long time to write based on the outline I've done 💀

15. Which WIP do you have the highest expectations for? Why?

ahh I'm not sure! Maybe Fake Dating/College AU? I can already tell that fic is going to be my baby and I hope everyone will like it too

16. Do you dream about any of your WIPs?

Not really but I do daydream about them in the shower 😂

17. Do any of your WIPs have particular complexities that your other fics don't?

hmm not sure since everything is still quite bare bones so I'll answer this next time !

18. Which WIP is the funniest or has the most humour?

Right now - Vampire Henry 😅 but not really ??? but yes the most in comparison to everything else so far LOL

19. Do any of your WIPs contain outside POVs or a deep dive on a character other than the main ship? How are you finding that process?

Nope but I do want to write a fic with an outside POV one day!

20. Tell us one thing we don't know about one or more of your WIPs.

Vampire Henry fic will probably be the first fic in a series 😬 I have ideas for a sequel OR extra scenes that will be ficlets 🥰
