You know what I would enjoy for Pokémon Horizons?
I would like it to have a darker tone at some point regarding Amethio and Gibeon's relationship:
I wouldn't really like some basic "Amethio works for Gibeon then discovers his real evil plans and switches sides" which is kinda plain tbh.
I would like it to be a traumatic experience for Amethio like: Amethio being in real danger and Gibeon not caring/preferring to pursue his goal to his grandson's safety or Gibeon willing to sacrifice Amethio's life to reach his goals... anything just make it deep... make it something impactful!

Wondering about Amethio's family in comparison to Liko, Roy and Dot's families.
While there was some emotional distance implied in Liko's situation, she learned to speak her mind and convey her wants and thoughts, such as when she asked her father to allow her to keep traveling. She admires her parents for being passionate about what they love, and they don't intend to force a path on her since Liko is free to choose anything she wants to do (from Lucca's perspective, she didn't want to influence her daughter's choice so she kept some distance in HZ012).
Roy's parents currently aren't with him so there is physical distance in his case. But he shares warm memories of singing together with them while holding hands, and he is really close to his grandfather too (the second opening showed that he used to read stories with Roy). His family believes in him, and his grandfather also let Roy choose what he wanted to do and didn't oppose his decision to go on a journey.
Dot's relationship with her mother is a bit strained because of their clash in personalities, since Blanca is overbearing while Dot is more reserved. Though despite how pushy and overwhelming she could be, Blanca was proud of Dot for making friends and gave Dot her blessing when she asked to stay on the ship (she said she wasn't going to deny her heartfelt wish in HZ041).
We still have a lot to learn about Amethio's situation but his seems to be a stark contrast to the others'. He speaks about his father with an underlying layer of resentment in his words, so he rejects him on some level. I wonder if his situation is supposed to mirror Roy's a bit? Amethio doesn't seem to be in contact with his parents currently. I wonder if they had to leave because of work and potentially left him with Gibeon? Except he would have grown to resent them for some reason (or at the very least his father), and "took sides" and supports his grandfather. He follows Gibeon's footsteps, similarly to Liko, who follows on Diana's because that's what she wants to do (though Diana didn't expect her to, and she let Lucca pursue what she wanted to do as well). Amethio also seems to take great pride in following his grandfather and he is very loyal to him. Tbh I'm just curious about whatever is going on with his family and what the writers will do with it in comparison to the main trio.

Amethio sweetie you're not beating the 'related to Gibeon' allegations anytime soon fr
#fluff binges !!!#(my god the past few days have been Absolutely Awful I need to unwind anyhow sdkjfsndfs back to the comfort series)#there's something so poetic in how Hamber assumes this mentor/grandfather-like role to Amethio#while at the same time we're seeing Diana and Liko's bond at the forefront throughout the ep#the parallels between them....... Y'know tho, if Rakurium affects Pokemon like this, causing them to go all violent and frenzied, I wonder of its effects on humans too, especially since Gibeon's chamber is getting Rakurium mist constantly pumped into it. I presume he's past the worst effects like that feral rage, but I do wonder if it's still unbalanced him mentally as well.
(I thought he was merely using it to stay alive, like it had some kind of age-delaying properties or something, considering it's implied he knew Lucius. But the reveal of these effects on Pokemon makes me wary he could go full Ghetsis later. Also, with Gibeon saying that Amethio needs to help him get more Rakurium, and then Amethio seeing Umbreon go berserk from its effects, I'm wondering if he'll put those two things together regarding his grandfather, that it might be the start of what unsettles him enough to eventually leave the Explorers.)

Family, Blood Ties and Redemption in Pokemon Horizons
I really felt for Amethio in episode 65. Spinel will do anything to get rid of him, huh? I can definitely see Amethio joining forces with the rvts in the future, either as a member or as an ally.
I want to call this a 'redemption arc' but I don't even know if that's the correct wording. Amethio is not being redeemed because he was never bad to begin with. He is a kid who has been manipulated by his own grandfather. I think this really showed during his conversation with Liko, where he said that his goal is to simply fulfil Gibeon's wishes. In addition to this, Amethio has shown numerous times to care for other's safety, regardless of whether they side with him or not (ie. When he saved Liko from Rayquaza's attacks in episode 45, and when he subsequently teamed up with Friede.) In other words, Amethio is a good person who has been taught to do bad things.
In this sense, Pokemon Horizons highlights both the importance of family and the dangers of blood ties and manipulation. The rvts are a family who care for and trust each other. Meanwhile, the Explorers are built from selfishness, deception and greed. Amethio does what Gibeon demands because he is his grandfather. When someone close to you treats you badly, it can completely bypass you because you care about them and their behaviour becomes normalised. Amethio seems to have been raised with the Explorers, so it's no wonder why he has been so loyal to them. As a result, Gibeon has been able to use Amethio for his personal gain. It reminds me of N's dynamic with Ghetsis in Pokemon Black and White.
Out of context, I found it funny how the plot of this episode was Liko and Amethio trying to get out of a cave. Whether that was a reference to Plato's analogy of the cave or coincidence, who knows. Either way, Amethio has seen the light (literally). He has seen Gibeon's true colours, Spinel's real intentions, and gained insight from Liko.
If Amethio does switch sides, I don't think this will be immediate. As he said to Liko, he is on a different path to her. Even though he is banished from the Explorers, he has still been loyal to Gibeon for so long. It makes me wonder what really happened to his Dad- did he willingly leave the Explorers or did he 'disappoint' them in the same way that Amethio did? For now, Amethio needs to decide whether he's prepared to join the other side, even if it means completely betraying his grandfather.

Amethio and Gibeon's family tree
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now that Gibeon being the board chair of Exceed is revealed, I do wonder about Crave, the director.
Tumblr media
He has black hair and that Amethio has half of his hair black, I just can't help but wonder if Crave is Amethio's father and if he is, is he related to Gibeon or is he an in-law?
On top of that, Amethio said that Gibeon is his grandfather, but is he just a grandfather or is he a great-great grandfather like how Liko is to Lucius?

Now that we’ve seen that Hamber had black hair in his younger years I think there’s a decent chance he’ll end up being a blood relative of Amethio’s. It just feels oddly coincidental that they have the same shade of black and both have purple eyes. Hamber’s shade of purple is a lot darker than Amethio’s though, so i’m thinking he’s probably not as direct as an ancestor as Gibeon is, probably a great uncle or something along those lines. They even both of ghost types as their main mons which doesn’t make them related ofc but it’s something else that connects them. Neither of them seem to be aware of their blood relation if that is the case either, so them being more distant relatives would be a good explanation as to why they wouldn’t know. Horizons characters are shit at communicating their blood connections lmaoo (see Diana not even knowing who her grandfather was)
This also would add even more to Liko and Amethio’s connection- their eventual friendship isn’t just Lucius and Gibeons bloodlines reconciling at least through their descendants, but also Diana and Hamber. It might be a stretch, but Hamber’s already been sort of a parental figure to Amethio (although i’d argue he’s not a very good one, but they still have that sort of dynamic) ep34 even emphasised this through juxtaposing their bond with Liko and Diana’s. If Hamber’s also potentially going to be redeemed him learning of their blood relation could be the key to him switching sides- maybe he’s been estranged from his family his whole life and so he’d always been searching for them but gave up eventually and that’s how he came to serve Gibeon.
Just some food for thought!

OH OH and... it's so cute that everyone was like Lol she's picked up on your bad habits friede, but also i'm genuinely really emotional about liko not telling everyone about the conversation she had with amethio - even when she tells everyone that gibeon is amethio's grandfather, she doesn't divulge any further personal information concerning amethio's goals/ambitions or feelings, and it's so obvious from both that and amethio not showing up in the montage of the "rotten" explorers that liko's perspective on amethio has changed and she is being considerate of his feelings. sigh. sigh. i love them

alright, gonna do a horizons trailer breakdown cuz i am HYPE for what's coming next
Tumblr media Tumblr media
looks like laqua is on a mountaintop. i'm not entirely sure why that's so surprising to me, considering that in retrospect of course the giant flying dragon is gonna lead the airship to somewhere in the sky.
Tumblr media
liko's wearing cold-weather gear in this shot and nowhere else in the trailer, so i guess they probably land at the top and descend over the course of their adventure?
Tumblr media
the gang's in front of a crystal wall of some kind here, but it doesn't look like laqurium or terastal crystals. i assume this is probably near the spot where gibeon and lucius had their confrontation. maybe a wall put up by kleavor or some sort of inert laqurium produced as a byproduct of zygarde's cells?
Tumblr media
lucius returning is no surprise, but i wish i had subtitles to tell what he's saying here (i think there was also gibeon dialogue at the start i missed). he clearly says liko's name, so this is probably a "thank you for saving me" sort of moment.
Tumblr media
spinel looks like as much of a little shit as ever. no notes here, just seems like his subterfuge might finally come to a head here.
Tumblr media
two things of note here: 1. it's just weird to see onipurin terastalized and not glalie, especially since we haven't seen coral terastalize glalie at all yet. 2. this battle is in the woods, not the dead crater place most of the action is taking place at. there's another shot of floragato there later on, so my guess is that coral (and maybe either sidian or agate) are sent to intercept the rvt while gibeon does his thing.
Tumblr media
this one is interesting because it shows amethio standing not only alongside the rvt, but against gibeon. even though he had been expelled from the explorers, it seemed like he was probably still loyal to his grandfather, so i wonder what goes down here to change that. also, that is a massive pile of laqurium behind gibeon there, so something big's definitely going down.
Tumblr media
lucius reunites with the six heroes! really wonder what happens to all of them after this. i think it would be weird for the six heroes to leave the rvt after all this (especially since roy just caught rayquaza after that being his entire series-long goal). so, like, is lucius gonna travel with the rvt for a while? is he gonna stay behind in laqua? maybe mysteriously disappear stopping gibeon again? lucius getting properly thrown into the cast just adds so many interesting options for where the story can go from here.

What if Crave used to be an explorer/worked for Gibeon then fell in love with the latter's daughter (Amethio's mom)?
Maybe Gibeon's daughter wasn't ok with her father's doing, so she made Crave open his eyes on it and he left Gibeon?
This would explain Gibeon's telling Amethio "so you would stray from the path too".
From what we have seen in the preview of ep 83 I think it's clear that Amethio's mother isn't there anymore, maybe something happened to them causing Crave to emotionally distance himself from both Gibeon and Amethio (the latter because he sided with his grandfather which Crave saw as a betrayal).

Spinel's involvement in Amethio's family being Like That (him making things worse, observing the drama, and nudging things in his preferred direction) in contrast to Friede's relationship with Crave (one full of trust and mutual respect) is really funny to me.

Man the recent episodes of Horizons have been pretty interesting with the Explorers.
But I also kinda feel at this point that among the Explorers admins, it seems like Spinel and Chalce are the two who are going to be the real "villains" of the group and the true threats to be taken down? The two are very clearly in cahoots with each other, and they're working together and seem to be the "leaders" of every operation the Explorers take on and are the ones to devise the plans. Especially this current one that's been happening throughout the entire chapter, where it's clear that the two had been leading the scheme from the beginning.
Spinel seems to have open hostility towards Amethio and has been working with Chalce to sort of lock Amethio up with Liko in a cave (the latter separated from her friends and with him because of Chalce), while Chalce snuck Coral and Sidian into the academy as a mole and now the two are facing Roy and Dot in a battle that will happen next episode. I think Spinel and Chalce seem to have their own motives in the group and intend to throw out even their fellow admins for their goals. Considering we now know that Amethio is Gibeon's grandson, and Gibeon has chosen him as the heir, I feel like Spinel wants to overthrow Amethio specifically as the heir to the Explorers after Gibeon. Which also explains his total yes-man behavior in regards to Gibeon: he seems to want Gibeon's approval and win him over to become the new head of the Explorers himself, and wants to get rid of Amethio to eliminate the "threat" of him since Amethio has the favor due to his blood relation to Gibeon. Maybe Chalce is also in the same boat.
Because on the other hand, all three of Amethio, Sidian, and Coral seem fairly redeemable. Amethio's sole motivation is to win over his grandfather's approval to be accepted as head of the Explorers, while Coral and Sidian don't really seem to have any innately evil motives for anything and are little more than battle-thirsty blood knights who love battle and seem to actively enjoy getting in the kids' way and beating them up for the fun of it. Sidian is very nice and affable, while Coral isn't and is rather immature and hot-headed, but they don't really feel like they belong with the Explorers...they seem to be there because they want opportunities to battle people and show off how strong they are. The three have had very close interactions with the Explorers at a personal level even as civilians in Coral and Sidian's cases and don't really seem innately "evil". Coral and Sidian are still dragged around by Spinel and Chalce and obey orders when they feel like it but they also tend to act on their own and it's obvious almost every encounter they've had with Liko, Roy, and Dot is by their own will with them disobeying orders in just about every instance. Amethio meanwhile has gone practically completely rogue and is acting on his own.
But I think those three aren't really the villains. Amethio will probably end up siding with the RVT in some way, while Coral and Sidian are at best an annoying nuisance to the kids and will probably just have a weird frenemy relationship with them long term that's built around them battling each other because Coral and Sidian feel like it.
While I don't know what'll become of Gibeon it seems he may not be the sole "big bad", if that's even what he'll end up being at all. Hamber despite being the second-in-command seems like he could be redeemed in some way, and the way Diana talks about him suggests that's how she feels. Even if their current relationship is antagonistic, Diana still does consider Hamber to be her friend, and she feels that she can still do something about him and that he's a better man than he shows himself to be outwardly.
Meanwhile Spinel and Chalce are outwardly "villainous" in their actions and I feel if anyone is certain to be the "main villains" of the story in the end that the other characters have to take down, it'll be them. They're very clever and cunning, and they also clearly have their own plans that will likely involve undermining the Explorers and Gibeon himself. I feel like the others will likely have a better outcome and either will side with the RVT or end up in a place where they're still free and about, either on a new path in the case of Amethio and Hamber, or in the case of Coral and Sidian, vitriolic frenemies with the kids. But Spinel and Chalce will probably end up having to be defeated and ultimately punished in some way, they seem to be the true threats.
A lot of thoughts but yeah that seems to be something I'm inclined to believe. Spinel and Chalce being the real "big bads" at the end. Meanwhile Gibeon and Hamber almost scream "misunderstood good guy" and I feel at least Hamber and Amethio will end up on a better path and redeemed. Amethio is most certainly going to be an anti-hero in the end. And then the "troublemakers" Coral and Sidian are basically going to be the new Jessie and James, two misfits who have nowhere to go so they cling to Liko, Roy, and Dot.

Okay, they dont actually look too similar to each other, but the theory of Crave being Amethios father is quite believable for me. At least their brows and hair color looks quite the same. Makes me think, that if Crave is indeed his father, then Amethio took more from his mother, and if it’s true, then i believe Gibeon doesn’t have a son, but a daughter? Craves’s wife/ex wife/dead wife - Amethios mother?
We have a young man with zigzag and unique hair and triangle eyes, we have an old dude with zigzag and unique white-pink hair and triangle eyes. It will be cool, if they will show Amethios mother, having the same unique hair with zigzag and purple eyes with triangle pupils. Please. Im begging for it.
It also would be symbolic if Crave will be Amethios father because…:
1) The man with very similar hair color, who works with Exceed company (what is somehow connected to the Rakium), who definetely have or has a wife, appears in the same episode in which we saw Amethios grandfather and found out some lore about his father and family in general
2) It’s kinda symbolic that they showed the episode with “grandfather/father/son-grandson/whatever” theme days before “fathers days” (its a third Sunday of June for Japan)
3) Pokemon loves symbolism. It will be also symbolic for Friede to know Amethios father (read Crave) even before he met with Amethio himself. Just like he knows Likos mother before meeting with her. The same story with Roy and his grandfather and with Dot and Murdock. I Like this idea.
So yes, what do you think of the theory that Crave is Amethios dad and Gibeon’s son-in-law?
