Episode 21 - A Kitchen for a King

Another Tiamat Prompt, what d’ya know lol. 

Only? That much power, of nine near-godly beings in one body? That’s a lot. And, they can’t exactly… unmeld anymore. But they were prepared for that, they were ready to have to sacrifice it all. So if they have to leave their world as their power gets too strong, then so be it. 

So they wander, from world to world, unable to stay long, never finding a place that feels like home. They wander, stars spilling from wings, asteroids melding with scales and stars bursting into feathers as they do so. 

They wander, and grow both stronger, and bigger than ever before. But they grow tired, weary. Exhausted even. This endless travel, they tire of it, just wanting a moment of rest. They’ve been moving endlessly for so long, getting fitful rest as one of them dozes at a time, and they just want a proper moment of sleep. 

So they land and… when did worlds become so small? When did they become vast enough to wrap around them? When did they grow so large to dwarf the world they had once come from so long ago once in another timeline? 

How long, they wonder, have the nine of them wandered? How far? How many timelines? Dimensions? Planes of reality? 

But they’re tired. So for now? They rest. They sleep away their worries and grief, life and death spilling from their breath, rock and earth building around them as they dream. Water giving way to life, plants to animals, animals to destruction over and over. 

And they rest. They sleep. Scales harder than any ore, feathers more beautiful than the rarest bird, fur softer than the most expensive silks, yet visible to none. For they sleep, resting below the waves, stretching from sea to sea. 

Until…

Until they begin to wake. They do not mean harm, they are not even aware of the life that has grown from their presence, of the panic the great disasters and storms are causing. One snuffs in their sleep, a volcano bursting from the heat. Another head shifts slightly, sighing at the new comfortable position as sinkholes break across the surface like an earthquake. 

How can they be aware, when they’re still dreaming?

Zatanna and Green Lantern Kyle Rayner had a nice team up in Green Lantern 80 Page Giant #02 by writer Steven Grant and artist Matt Smith.

The story starts off with a sorcerer disciple of a demon being tasked to steal Zatanna's powers.

I'm posting this page here because I find it amusing that the guy has a signed and framed photo of Zee along with a statue of her.

Kyle is at her show with one of his girlfriends and we get to see how Zatanna is perceived by the general public:

The sorcerers spell backfires and ends up teleporting in both Zee and Kyle into another dimension where their powers have become entangled:

"I eat boys like you for lunch." XD

Kyle takes a bit to adjust to Zee's powers but if you're wonder if it goes the other way around as well and Zee could do what Kyle can do, then yes, she can:

Epilogue:

Sadly, both the sorcerer that attempted to steal Zatanna's and the demon that put him up to the task has remained unnamed and this plot lines remains unresolved.

Still, with all the constant attacks that happen during her shows, you would think Zee would take more precautions. The team up itself is somewhat reminiscent of Zatanna's team up with Barry in Flash #198, Jared Steven in Fate #10 and Impulse in Impulse #17.

Yew, The Wanderer. ooo|o (Slugcat, Lantern Mouse, Yeek) Timid and mostly non-verbal, excellent agility and low food requirements. Weak throw and inability to use spears.

Vulture, The Undertaker. ooooooo|oooooo (Slugcat, Vulture) Somewhat of a klutz, yet intelligent and efficient. Enjoys vocalizing and singing songs, soaring the skies and watching the world below.

Perennial, The Mother. ooooo|ooooooo (Slugcat, Jellyfish (-> Giant Jellyfish) A large, elder slugcat, Softly floating atop the waters of Shoreline. Scarcely hostile though temperamental during pre-cycles. Has been observed to ferry various creatures across the waters. Rumors say the elder has existed since before the rot of Five Pebbles.
