ITS A BIG ONE 💥, 🌙, 🕷️, 🙉, 🎁, 💘, 💗, ❤️, 💙, 💖
For both Olivia and Sonia!
Here we go! Double serving of hot vampire facts!
💥 Olivia: Helpless. If there's one thing Olivia hates, it's being unable to do anything when she thinks she should or considers it her responsibility. When it happens, she usually falls back on anger to mask it.
Sonia: She can't really stand condescension. She understands that sometimes she has to defer to those above her in the hierarchy, but the moment someone flaunts their position over her, she becomes prone to start plotting to show them just how poor of a decision that was.
🌙 Olivia: To have a family. She has that now (in some ways, she got more than she asked for) and can cross it off the list. And yes, she is willing to kill to protect that family.
Sonia: Having her restaurants gain global recognition. National fame just isn't enough when it comes to her cooking and she's not above playing dirty, usually by discrediting her competition.
🕷️ Olivia: Her biggest fear is being left entirely alone, with no one to care about her. Growing up an orphan, she desperately wanted someone to give a damn, and while it's not AS overt anymore, she still very much does. She doesn't really have mundane fears, but the more she learns of her clan's antideluvian, the more she fears being subsumed by him.
Sonia: Sonia does not fear, she is the one others fear. Why be afraid, when she's arguably the scariest person in the (dimly lit) room? The one fear she had (though she'd never admit it) is her sire, whom she diablerised) slowly driving her insane and manipulating her from beyond the grave.
🙉 Olivia: HAVE YOU HEARD OF THE DARK MOTHER?! Thanks to her wife, Olivia is a devout Bahari and she is not particularly shy about her faith, or about sharing her faith with people who're willing to listen.
Sonia: She will happily talk your ear off about Italian cooking. You will listen, that is non-negotiable, the door is already locked and your shadow gave her the key.
🎁 Olivia: She's not used to getting presents at all, so just the fact that someone would give her one is usually enough to make her emotional. Still, she's usually fairly practical, and appreciates gifts she can make use of. As for giving gifts, she's generally the kind of person to ask what someone would want, rather than try to guess.
Sonia: Presents are mostly a way to gain favor to her. Sonia's painfully practical, though most of the gifts she gives are ceremonial. She'd be happy to receive a gift with some tangible meaning behind it, like something symbolizing a guarantee of support.
💘 Olivia: She wouldn't admit to it, but she does believe in love at first sight. As for desirable traits, she values people who are willing to compromise for the sake of their partner and treating her as an equal.
Sonia: She doesn't. She frankly finds it difficult on most nights to NOT see love as transactional, or in terms of alliance. Her ideal partner would further and protect her interests first.
💗 Olivia: It usually takes a little bit for her to admit she's interested in someone, but once it happens, she tries (and fails) to give subtle hints that she's interested. She also tends to lower her guard around her crushes. It happened with her wife, Harmony and a bit more explosively with her boyfriend, Elliot (on account of him being mortal.)
Sonia: She keeps her attraction close to the chest and doesn't really let it show, unless she sees signs of mutual interest. She tends to keep an air of decorum about it. She's of an older date, so she prefers to wait for the other party to come forward first.
❤️ Olivia: She becomes very caring and protective of her love interests. She's not really a selfish lover, but she's definitely quick to become overprotective.
Sonia: Support in her partner's endeavours, be they political or personal. Need to bend the ear of someone important? She'll call in favors so you get their time. Someone causing you problems? She'll remove them.
💙 Olivia: Dear god, does she. She becomes much less animated without her wife being around. They see each other pretty much every day, but when they don't, it's fairly obvious she's missing something. Running away from Harmony following the death of her sire took a serious toll on Olivia, doubly so when it was entirely her own fault, and she never really forgiven herself for it.
Sonia: She's not really prone to missing people. To Sonia, people come and go as they fall in and out of favor, and to a degree, this pragmatism also applies to love. Still, if she becomes fond of someone, she'll gladly reminisce about them, but their absence doesn't really affect them in a perceivable manner.
💖 Olivia: A bit of both? She's not above public displays of affection and frankly, shortly after she and Harmony started dating she practically flaunted their relationship in Elysium. She's a little more reserved with Elliot, but mostly because they also work together and she doesn't want their relationship to disrupt their work.
Sonia: She's definitely a subtle lover. It's less about grand displays and more about the little things to let her love know she approciates her. That can get a little difficult when you go for over 50 years without seeing each other, but she hopes these little comforts make up for it.

Who Plays Niccoló in ‘The White Lotus’ Season 2 Episode 6? Meet Stefano Gianino, Jennifer Coolidge’s Hot Mafia Hookup
Who Plays Niccoló in ‘The White Lotus’ Season 2 Episode 6? Meet Stefano Gianino, Jennifer Coolidge’s Hot Mafia Hookup
The White Lotus Season 2 Episode 6 “Abductions” places Tanya (Jennifer Coolidge) in more danger than ever before. However, she’s blissfully unaware of the threats surrounding her because new pal Quentin (Tom Hollander) has given her compliments, cocaine, and a loverboy named Niccoló (or is it Nicolo? I didn’t watch this week’s White Lotus with the subtitles on). We’re told by Quentin that Niccoló…

white lotus s2 finale rundown
(spoilers ahead)
in case you're wondering, here are the characters that survived the second season: Daphne and Cameron (the supposed scammers, played by Meghann Fahy and Theo James) Harper and Ethan Spiller (the couple on the rocks, played by Aubrey Plaza and Will Sharpe) Albie, Dominic and Bert Di Grasso (all of the men who were on some sort of heritage trip, played by Adam DiMarco, Michael Imperioli and F. Murray Abraham) Portia (Tanya's assistant, who gets whisked away to Sicily, played by Haley Lu Richardson) Jack (the supposed nephew of the head gay, played by Leo Woodall) Valentina, and the rest of the hotel staff (she's the director of this location, who is played by Sabrina Impacciatore) Lucia and Mia, my problematic faves (both of whom use their bodies to get what they want, and the only non guests involved, played by Simona Tabasco and Beatrice Grannó) presumably Greg, Tanya's husband who we met last season in Hawai'i (played by Jon Gries) although we don't have any confirmation of this fact
that means the dead characters are: Tanya McQuoid, Quentin, Didier and Niccoló (played by Jennifer Coolidge, Tom Hollander, Bruno Gouery [from Emily in Paris] and Stefano Gianino), putting the death toll at 4. it is not told whether or not Hugo or the captain of the boat survived, but I would personally doubt it, because they did seem significantly far out from the shore. in the end, I'm sure only mike white knows for sure.
now, let's talk about that season finale.
first off, I'm wondering if greg actually was planning something, or if tanya blew it out of proportion in some way. I guess we'll never know, although there were definitely some red flags, especially with the way that jack was acting.
let's talk about jack for a second. I'm so happy that he redeemed himself in my eyes, and let portia go and even gave her advice that probably saved her life. who knows what might've happened if portia went back to the hotel? I'm a jack fan at the end of this season, because the guy was just doing what he could with the cards he was dealt, but didn't want to actively hurt someone (because if tanya had gotten hurt, he would've been peripherally involved, but wouldn't have played a direct part in her demise)
the digrassos. I feel like they could've used some comeuppance, apart from albie. it sucks that dominic will probably just go back to what he's been doing, and that albie vouched for his dad. I feel like the fact that none of these men have been affected by their experiences is shown in the airport scene, where a young woman walks by and they all turn their heads to ogle her. I think it shows that this gross misogyny kind of runs in their family (because they kind of perpetuate it) and that it would be hard for them to change without serious introspection.
super happy for valentina. did mia use her? sure. but it was definitely mutually beneficial, and mia does say that she wants to help valentina find a lesbian, and even take her out to bars, so I foresee a prosperous future for valentina. also gotta say, small win for the gays because valentina wasn't killed at the end of this season.
isabella and rocco seem fine. I'm happy that Isabella was always so polite to valentina, and I think she genuinely wanted to be friends with her, so a good future for these two and hopefully they have a good life.
ethan nearly chokes cameron, and I am so unhappy that cameron lives at the end of the season. I think it would be cool to have a cameo from daphne next season, where she is ending her stay at a white lotus with her trainer and her sons, and we just assume that she killed cameron or something. I am happy for ethan and harper, but it seems like a bandaid on their situation, so I'm not sure what the future looks like for these couples. I do think their stories could have been wrapped up better, and I wonder if mike white found himself burdened by the inclusion of so many characters this season, because the ending did not seem as closed as season one.
lucia and mia are doing well, lucia has loads of money that she got after scamming albie, and mia has a job at the white lotus as a singer, so good for them. I could care less about albie, and as he says, that amount is a drop in the bucket for his father anyway. I also think it is legitimate karmic payment, that dominic will inadvertently help the lives of these two women after destroying the lives of the women in his family. I'm also happy that lucia and mia live, because I think there is a trend in media where promiscuous women are killed because of their promiscuity, so seeing them live was super endearing. especially since lucia says earlier in the season that she's worried that she will die because she's a prostitute, and prostitutes always die.
I'm kind of happy for portia, but I can't help but compare her to belinda. it feels kind of significant that one of these characters was a guest and the other an employee, and that one was white and the other was black, in terms of where they ended up. I do think the show could've paralleled their arcs better in this finale, and driven home the point that portia was coming from a point of privilege, and that's why she survived and got off relatively easy.
what was the point of including the story of the woman from the moors? who was that supposed to represent after the finale? my guess was tanya, but I don't think we'll get a follow up on her storyline, so the symbolism here doesn't really work. also, if it was tanya, the story is backwards, because she dies and the cheating spouse doesn't. is the point of the statues that this was the path one of the main couples was heading down, and then the statue breaking is a subversion, and their story won't end in tragedy? honestly, I have no idea.
I'm happy that tanya died. I was getting tired of her character, and I was scared that if she survived this season mike white would bring her back for season three, and I think the series will work better without through lines or continuing stories, and instead focuses on the only point of contact being the white lotus resorts.
I'm happy that the piano guy is gone. he wasn't that interesting, and I'm happy for mia.
greg, will we ever see him again? will we get a conclusion to his story?
it's really ironic that tanya ends up killing herself, because if greg was after her money, he's got it now. I would like to see greg get comeuppance, because I think he sucks.
just like greg, I feel like cameron didn't get his comeuppance, but I guess we might have to wait for another season to see if anything bad comes to him.
I feel kind of bad for the group of gays, but I also don't. I have mixed feelings about their group, and my thoughts about their ending are still developing. I do think that it's possible tanya overreacted and killed a bunch of people who didn't have completely nefarious intentions. this is another storyline that could've used a defter hand, because it feels incomplete.
I do think that it's weird that there is a kind of bury your gays going on with the show, considering that armond is the only death in season one (and we're shown that he's gay) and then we have two of the gays dying in this season. I doubt these are white's intentions, but it is kind of weird to look at this together, and I think the next season will cement the trends of the show.
final thoughts:
I would rate this season maybe a 6 or 6.5 out of 10. it was not as good as the first, however it was possibly more entertaining than the first. I think involving so many characters made it harder to have satisfying story beats for all of them, and loads of people online have pointed out that there is not a lot of interaction between the guests, or even that a lot of important plot points aren't taking place at the hotel. the first season seemed a lot more focused in its scope. I do believe that the show was intended to be a limited series, and I think it should have stayed that way, because I think it will only get worse as it goes on, when it could've ended on a high note last season. I'm down to watch the third season and see if mike white can redeem himself, and because there are a lot of technical aspects of the show that I enjoy, but I'm not eagerly anticipating it like I am other good shows like succession.
I do hope that mike white finds a way to tie up all of the loose ends of this season somehow, but I think all of the loose ends and dropped story beats really cheapened this season. it also makes me think that season one was lightning in a bottle that he will never be able to replicate.
anyway, a pretty disappointing follow up.

Uncovering the Art of Producing an Exclusive New Image!
Lucas film animation’s image unit manager Rob Gianino guides us through his team’s incredible process of creating Star Wars Insider’s cover image!
The Image Unit in general helps create any imagery that is used to promote, market, or help license any of the material developed by Lucasfilm Animation. The cover started with us getting a brief description of what was needed. There are certain things we had to know about the tone of the cover: were we looking for dynamic action or something more casual, more menacing? Descriptions like that help us paint a pitch in our heads of what we're going to do. The next step is doing some thumbnail sketches.
FINDING THE POSE
First, our pose artist, Tu-Anh Nguyen, came up with a few different sketches to use as as starting point. Armed with those, she then began posing the characters from the sketches with 3-D software. The character models used were not especially created for us—these are the exact same models used in the television show.
For this cover we kept all the characters in one scene file, and even imported a cover template into the scene so that we had some reference as to how all of the elements would work together. Tu-Anh then posed all of the characters in 3D space, which allowed her to get a stronger sense of composition and scale by moving the characters forward or backward in space. One of the particular challenges with this cover was figuring out how to put Boba Fett in front of Aurra Sing and Bossk, who are taller characters. Aurra Sing is long and angled so the challenge was making her fit without squeezing her into a tight space. Once the rough pose was in place, we worked on finessing the look of each character and striking the correct attitude and emotion. Examples of these details are creating the correct amount of menace in Boba's facial expression, or striking the right amount of tension and attitude in the way that Bossk or Aurra Sing hold their weapons. There are specific character traits from the show that we are trying to reflect in the image and the final details can make all the difference on whether or not we're successful in that effort. We were also trying to create a dynamic, energetic image, so it was important to make sure that both Bossk and Aurra Sing, while sitting further back in the image, still conveyed energy from behind Boba, who was our main focus.
LIGHTING
After locking down the composition of the pose, the next step was lighting. Tu-Anh passed her file along to Kyle Long, our lighting artist, who began the process of lighting our 3-D scene. Because we knew this image was to be used as a magazine cover, we tried to give a nice key light to show off the characters, while also still maintaining some of the style and lighting from the show. An example of this is the pronounced shadow along the right side of Boba's face. This was meant to enhance the edge that is present in Boba's character, while also reflecting the artistic style of the show. Once the lighting was set correctly, a high resolution render was created and then imported into Photoshop. This final, color balancing stage helped us to put the finishing touches on the image and make sure that we were delivering a cover with rich colors, strong contrasts, and hopefully an image that will pop off the page!
The final stage was adding the background, cover lines and logos. Voila! That's how you make one cool Star Wars Insider cover!
Star Wars Insider cover created by:
Robert Gianino - Image Unit Manager
Tu-Anh Nguyen - Pose Artist
Kyle Long - Lighting Artist
Gabrielle Levenson - Image Unit Coordinator

Webster Jazz Faculty, “A Riverside Records Retrospective,” 9 September 2019
Paul DeMarinis reported from the stage that for the last 9 iterations of the start of a 39 year run of Monday night jazz concerts in Winifred Moore Auditorium that he has curated these initial concerts centered on interpretations of recordings of key jazz labels.  This was Riverside Records’ year so we got good doses of Bill Evans, Sonny Rollins, and Theolonius Monk, but also Wes Montgomery and Cannonball Adderley.  These shows are wonderful reminders of just where foundation stones of my jazz education come from.
The band is evolving with Randy Holmes new(er? Maybe last year too) on trumpet/fluegelhorn and Tom Byrne on guitar.  I am coming around to the trumpet generally, but value Holmes for not rushing to fast high notes and instead exploring the middle range and the spaces in the music.  He was Clark Terry on “Boomerang” but did nice mute work as well as flugelhorn.  Lots of colors.
Byrne is a strong player and benefited too from these ensembles capturing not just the tunes but the arrangements.  That is, he played guitar parts--Jim Hall on “Interplay” and Wes Montgomery on “Four on Six” and, well, everybody got a part of “Little Rootie Tootie” from Town Hall.
But it was also fun to see them give space to friend Matt Pickart on violin.  I have peppered Matt with questions, been impressed at his energy and practicality (he helps with the career/entrepreneurship side of things, and heard him play chamber music.  He does teach improvisation and so joined this part.  Yes, on “Little Rootie Tootie” but also on the songs.  He really implied a string section on “Angel Eyes.”  Debbie Lennon was another horn on the Monk tune but got to explore Abbey Lincoln, Mark Murphy, and Chet Baker.  My favorite was  the “It Could Happen to You.”
Paul DeMarinis played alto on the Monk and the Latin opener “Azul Serape” from Cannonball.  I particularly liked the Sonny Rollins trio version of “Last Time I Saw Paris,” part of my meditation on the many ways the tenor can fill the spaces with bass and drums, from big like Coltrane and Rollins through Mark Turner, Warne Marsh, and Melissa Aldana.  Paul’s is yet another take.
The rhythm section is stalwart--tasteful insistent drums from Kevin Gianino; lots of bass ideas from Willem von Hombricht; and Kim Portnoy being himself while alluding to lots of pianists--Tommy Flanagan, Victor Feldman, but also Monk and Bill Evans.  And not just any Bill Evans but “Interplay” from the album with Jim Hall which came to a boil in Kim’s chorus and “All of You” from “Sunday at the Village Vanguard,” one of the desert island albums.
Key music all around--some old favorites put in context, some new to me things to explore.
