DPXDC CFAU Headcanon: Ghostspeak Edition

Ghosts in the Infinite Realms who saw Jason and Danny together called them "luzdra", a term in ghost speak that directly translates into the words "shared soul". It's literal definition is; "two ghosts with a bond so deep that it was as if they had split their souls in half and given one to the other", but in general it just means two ghosts with a profound, indescribable bond.

Luzdrus is the singular form of the word, and refers to only one ghost in the bond. While "luzdra" is plural and either refers to both of them together, or the relationship as a whole. It depends on the context of the conversation and who they're saying it to.

There is no romantic, platonic, or familial connotation behind the word. It just means "someone who shares a deep bond with someone" and can be between anyone.

It also does not mean soulmate, and if you say that you'll be corrected. Soulmates implies that their bond was destined by the universe, luzdra are two people who developed and built that bond themselves. It's a relationship forged between two (or more) people.

Some of Danny's rogues -- like Kitty and Johnny, who might've seen the two together and are possibly luzdra themselves -- still call him 'luzdrus' even after Jason's disappearance from the Zone. Danny doesn't know how to feel about it.

Personality Description: He’s kind, stubborn, and curious; he's also incredibly loyal, but shy. He can be a bit awkward, but fakes confidence when necessary. He loves people tho.

Backstory: His mother, Ghostspeaker Deirdre Lucen, died soon after he was born, leaving his father, Nikolai, both to take care of Rhys and become the Ghostspeaker since there was no heir old enough to take the position yet.

Rhys was then raised by a mostly absent father, who was more concerned about furthering the Ghosts’ goals for his own glory than his own children, since the Ghostspeaker had adopted Val by then, too. The only time Rhys really spent with his father was in training to become the next Ghostspeaker, and this led to a huge fear of failure for him, as well as fear of what taking the position would do to him.

And then Val ran away, and Rhys’ father hatched a plan to recover the people’s hopes—bring back the Ghostborn, children Gifted to a Ghostspeaker by the Ghosts themselves.

So Rhys became an older brother to a winged baby girl named Brynn.

Rhys now adores Brynn with all his heart, so when the people find out she exists and aren't receptive to bringing back the species they thought was cursed, he takes her on the run just in time to become the next Ghostspeaker and receive an impossible mission:

Kill all immortals, the only people in the world who can’t be killed…to his knowledge.

so much love for characters who are desperately unsure whether they’re a good person, a redeemable person, a person worth saving, but are absolutely certain that they’re a grade a hottie

everyone always talks about the longest/worst master clue steps to get (drakan castle, viyeldi caves, etc), but I want to take a moment to shout out the most irritating steps from some other tiers:

medium: the clue to search a crate in the desert mining camp. not very close to teles AND requires you to dig the key out of your bank (but i'm never doing enough mediums in a row to make it feel like i should instinctively withdraw my keyring to do ONE medium, yknow?)

medium: panic at the mausoleum (just such a long run compared to other medium clues)

hard: Daer Krand anagram step (such a fucking long run for no reason)

hard: agility pyramid emote clue. takes several minutes to get to the top of the damn pyramid. that's not even counting the fact that you need 2 clue uniques to DO the clue, and need a pharaoh's sceptre to get there quickly.

hard: central/southwest Kharazi Jungle coordinate clues. The reason these are worse than the SE kharazi emote clue is because once you've unlocked maximum QOL to speed this up (diary cape for jungle forester tele, 79 agility for the vine shortcut into the jungle) you're still forced to either take a further tele that's close to the shortcut then run a long distance once you're in the jungle, OR tele to the forester (closer) but need to bring an axe/machete and do the annoying process of getting into the jungle. i'm like damn would it kill them to make shortcuts on both coasts of the jungle? (first world osrs problems).

elite: Sherlock skill challenge "score a goal in skullball". takes a solid 5 min, maybe 4 and a half if you're super sweaty. when some other sherlock steps are doable in literally less than 1 second like "activate chivalry".

elite: map step to dig underwater in the mudskipper cave. it's not just the grabbing the gear, checking your weight... it's the picking up 5 rocks every time that really annoys me.

elite (but there's also a master in this location): coordinate clue to the little island north of mos le'harmless. it's not just the long run that irks me here, but also the way that when you run thru the cave horror cave, you get stalled every time one of them does their scream attack, aka, every few seconds. (i believe wearing the witchwood icon would eliminate this but like I don't even keep one in my bank anymore bc i never kill cave horrors anymore and i'm certainly not withdrawing it just for this step!!)

The Game for the Unsuited has officially reopened - and Alana Hargreaves, a girl with no proficiency in any of the four Suits of magic, is the first of the chosen Pawns.

She has a plan to win the Game without playing by the rules; anyone who had ever won before had gotten in, gone a bit insane thanks to the Game's mysterious challenges, developed Sanity magic, and gotten out. But if everything goes according to plan, Alana - and her best friend, Penn, who was chosen for the Game the year before - will learn a different Suit of magic and, once no longer Unsuited, be allowed to go back home.

Ebony doesn’t care enough to bother with that, she’s surviving and has a nice opportunity to actually be happy with her life (via murder but it's fine)

Nathanael would absolutely not, he's about to take over the world dude

Rhys definitely would, he's understandably terrified of being possessed and running the planet, and would much rather go live in an apartment alone with his sister (he doesn't even think about the possibility of her being left behind)

Brynn is three

Sterling would leave without a thought as long as he could take his sister with him

Ellis is too depressed and self-deprecatory to care tbh

Evi would sure as heck not, she has a brother to babysit and a world to save

“Good morning!” Ghostspeaker Lucen beamed out at the crowd, voice echoing through the sanctuary. There was an overwhelming boom of replies, and Sterling felt his darkness deepen a bit. “This morning, we have an exciting announcement for you,” the Speaker started, radiant smile widening somehow. “And by we, I mean my children and I.” There were a few murmurs in the crowd, and Sterling frowned thoughtfully—didn’t the Ghostspeaker only have one kid? There was Saint Valentine, but she’d run away years ago…maybe they’d found her. Maybe that was the news. The Speaker turned to the side of the stage, gesturing for someone to come out, and that someone turned out to be Saint Rhys Lucen—or at least, Sterling guessed that was him. The Saint didn’t look like he’d imagined; his red-dyed hair was a bit too long and messy, standing out like blood against his pale skin and white suit—and he looked scared. Sterling had never imagined the future Ghostspeaker could be scared.

DPXDC PROMPT: CASS AND DANNY

so i've seen a bunch of things where jason, or damian, or tim, or dick adopt danny. hear me out. Cass does.

Cass adopts Danny.

Danny gets de-aged, and dumped in Gotham to keep him safe from the GIW and Vlad and his parents. Cass is very liminal because of her time in the league, with a mainly empathy-based power set, and during one patrol, she feels something weird coming from an alley. 

She turns off her comms, then goes to investigate and finds smol Danny in a dumpster, trying to find food. He immediately clocks her as liminal so he trusts her purely because he knows she won’t turn him in to the government. Cass, meanwhile, is drawn to the small child, and turns her comms back on long enough to say “Babs, Bat-doption papers,” before scooping up the toddler and bringing him back to the cave. 

Danny is strongly reminded of Jazz, and he is completely fine with whatever is happening, because this liminal woman dressed as a bat found him, and then used empathy and a little ghostspeak to communicate what is happening, so he just relaxes into Cass’s arms.

Cass returns to the cave, and when asked why she has a child, she simply takes the stack of adoption papers Babs has set up, along with a tablet, puts her new kid to bed and falsifies some records to make him her legal son. Any attempts at questioning where she got Danny result in neutrally blank looks and Cass’s insistence that he is, and has always been, her son.

Bruce had been forced to bed early by Alfred for this patrol, and by the time he wakes up, eight hours of much-needed rest later, his children have come to the agreement that it’ll be really fun to fuck with his head, so he wakes up to a small child jumping on him, and, wondering whether he sleep-adopted another child, inquires as to Danny’s origins during breakfast. When he does, Tim looks shocked, Damian’s eyes widen as if he can’t believe his eyes, Cass looks betrayed, and the rest of the table just freezes. 

Hurriedly trying to fix his misstep, he asks what he said wrong, and Steph wraps her arm around Cass, picking Danny up, all while looking disappointed. 

Alfred finally breaks the silence by asking “Master Bruce, have you forgotten your grandson?” 

Bruce bluescreens. He figures out six hours later that while the kid is legally his grandson, he wasn’t present until last night, and he goes through the same process of questioning Cass and Steph about where they got the baby. The two women refuse to give any answer other than “he’s ours”.

Danny has now been adopted by a whole family of Liminals. There’s even a halfa, who reminds him a little of Dan, and he is very happy.

Duke absolutely adores his nephew. He quickly becomes Danny's favorite person outside of Cass, Steph, and Alfred.

We walk up the front steps and through the front doors, passing one of the ghosts chilling just behind one of the doors. They make a purr sound, and that odd inner light flickers as it says something. Its voice sounds like sighing.

Danny has a problem.

It's been around two weeks after fighting vlad and removing his powers, the tension has been building between them for a long time.

First it was the crown, Danny had earned it after fighting Pariah but Vlad thinks that Danny isn't ruthless enough to rule saying that he's "too soft" and "too indecisive" to wear the (for all the title of Ghost King is worth) glorified funny hat. Then after a long time of arguing between them Vlad came up with a scheme. If he couldn't become the king he would become the regent, he just needed to possess Jack Fenton, have him divorce Vlad's "beloved" Madeline and then possess her into marrying him.

As you can guess this didn't work, Danny found him about two seconds after he tried to divorce Maddy cause he wasn't even trying to act (like a human sized Golden retriever) his dad. So he and mom beat the creepy incel out of his dad, in the process Danny was forced to transform and his parents accepted him (YAY!), he also got hit in the side of his head by Vlad, damaging his Broca's area just enough so he can only speak in Ghostspeak, but he can still understand human words and letters. After that mess they moved to Gotham so he could recover in a place with high ectoplasm without Vlad harassing them. ( Lady Gotham hates Vlad.)

Now you're probably wondering, "What's the problem, Vlad is out of the picture and your parents accept your half dead-ness."

The problem is that some guy dressed as a scarecrow released some weird gas into his school. He didn't get a lot of people cause the "Bats?" Showed up but his friend Damien got sprayed and ran off saying he was gonna kill his brother tim. So in Danny's infinite genius he ran off after him to make sure he doesn't hurt someone.

He's not sure why Damien speaks Ghostspeak though.

OK, se we all know ghostspeak, right? It's a language for ghosts that comes from the ghost zone, and basically only halfas and ghosts can speak it on earth, but what if it's a forgotten language on earth?

It existed thousands of years ago, but slowly died off until no one remembered it.....until Tim went snooping in the house of mystery and came across an ancient book written in a language he didn't recognise.

After asking cough cough blackmailing cough John for the book Tim took it home and somehow forgotten about it, for about a week.

Now, during the week the book had been sitting in his room, Tim had gotten into an argument with Bruce, then with Alfred over his sleep, or lack thereof, and forced into decaf coffee for the rest of the month. So he was pretty frustrated, annoyed, and looking for revenge.

When Tim saw the book sitting on his desk innocently, he had a brilliant idea, a magnificent wonderful show stopping idea that would get his sweet sweet revenge.

Now, remember that Tim's brain is running on decaf coffee, no sleep, and no dopamine, it would not be too far fetched for him to think that because Alfred is obviously immortal he would know this ancient language, so Tim could learn this ancient language and insult his cooking in his (maybe) mother tongue! Obviously, it's a low blow, but revenge changes a person.

Tim spent the next month studying that book, staying locked in his room like the 'good grounded boy' he was. Obviously, Bruce knew something was up, but it didn't seem like Tim was up to a mastermindfull plan that might destroy or recreate gothams crime ring, so he let mumbling studying boy be.

Tim finally shut the book with a released sigh and sat up, cracking his back of the kinks and smirking at the victory he could already practically taste on his tongue. Today was the day. He was fairly confident that he had successfully broken through the language barrier and fluently learnt the once forgotten language.

Tim swaggered (yes, I said that, don't kill me) into the dining room and took a seat next to danny, his newest kindest and most naive brother, before looking towards everyone gathered today. It was the anniversary of Danny's first adoption, and everyone was here to celebrate it, even Jason of all people, though he could understand why. Since the two met, they had a seemingly special bond, and everyone knew Jason was Danny's favroute. No matter how hard dick tried to be.

Waiting until the food had come out and danny had successfully poked and prodded his plate to his liking, a weird ritual he did "to make sure it won't attack him" danny had said the first time anyone asked, everyone began eating. Tim hid a tiny smirk behind his bowed head as he finally said the words he had been waiting for all month.

"Looks like you're losing your touch, Alfred"

A second passed, no one says anything and Tim has just a smidgen of regret, did he say it right? Did he mispronounce something and make a fool of himself?

"Sniffle"

Tim's head shoots up to Alfred's, he only wanted to shock him and insult him a little bit! He didn't want him to start crying.

Yet Alfred's eyes were dry, and instead of looking at Tim, heck, no one was looking at Tim. They were all looking to the side of Tim, where danny sa-

Oh no, danny.

Tim swivelled his head and let his jaw open in shock as he sees danny full on breaking down, tears and snot covering his face that he desperately tries to wipe away as Jason kneeled beside him and tried to comfort him, the same static noises that Tim had made just before coming from his mouth.

Yet these were different, more confident in the tone and more soft and comforting than whatever Tim had said.

"Not-kill-dare-day-dann-calm-"

Tim could barely recognise the words coming from Jason's mouth and paled as he realised what that meant. It meant that he should have spent longer learning from the book, it meant he shouldn't have tried this in front of the entire family, it meant he had said something completely different than what he meant to say, the only question now is.

'What the fuck did I say?'
