“ i’m fully aware of that, no need to remind me. ” though she’s playing around, emma looks every bit as exasperated as she sounds. not that he could see her, what with her managing way too many boiling pots on the stove, but cooking goes quite well with preaching, and this is one admirable example of multitasking. “ i need to get my shit together and stop dropping joey on you — you’re not a good example for him, but hey, maybe he’ll rub off on you. he eats broccoli and never complains.” ( he does, a little — she’s not gonna let that ruin her speech, though. )

 HOW HAS YOUR CHARACTER DEVELOPED FROM THEIR ORIGINAL CONCEPT ?

IF YOU HAVE A CANON CHARACTER, answer in the sense of what made you want to play them, how you have come to interpret them differently -

PART ONE. what thing(s) initially inspired your character ?  - h.c. andersen’s original fairytale of the little mermaid, sea creatures, the fairytale as a metaphor for the real world, music ( namely ‘white waves’ by shearwater, ‘i appear missing’ by queens of the stone age and ‘what the water gave me’ by f.lorence and the machine ), c.atherine e.arnshaw from w.uthering h.eights, v.irginia w.oolf’s death, alcoholism & “bad” female role models, water metaphors.

PART TWO.  how has their personality developed from their first concept ? - the very, very first version of morgan was nothing like she is now ; she was a lover of the arts, a quiet / solitary soul, not at all devoted to self-destruction, an environmental activist & an actress. she then moved on to a new version, the one more similar to the current one, where her personality was kind of flat, ranging from cohleric to straight up aggressive all the time, without many layers to explain why she was like that. it took a lot of development & the realization that i’d been coding depression into her without ever really addressing it, to realize that morgan was much more than just an antisocial girl.

PART THREE.  how has their appearance developed from their first incarnation ? - i don’t think i ever paid much attention to it ? i know she was always bdh in my mind so that’s the canon i went with, except morgan is rather underweight & bryce isn’t, but that’s really the only difference i could think of. if anything, i think i got a little bolder with describing her physical flaws ( the fact that sometimes her hair will be unwashed or she will reek of alcohol, which i didn’t do before, ‘cause, you know. despite my age i was still a kid lbr here, the idea of being cynical in my writing was not contemplated at all. i think i’ve started considering these totally non-romanticizeable ( is that even a word ?!? ) qualities as important & realistic only when i started shifting the kind of media i consumed towards more ‘adult-oriented’ tv shows & movies, probably. )

PART FOUR. what do you think most makes your character unique ? - iii don’t know, really. i’ve seen other ‘darker’ depictions of the little mermaid, all unique & splendid in their own ways. still i think that, regardless of that, morgan is unique in her abundance of flaws but in the story she walks through too, especially in the new & revisited biography ? i don’t know, i might be full of shit ( i am lbr ) but i like to think i kind of had a good idea with the whole ‘mirroring’ think so, idk. maybe that.
