It had taken a while to convince cats that coming here was a good idea. After all he had blown up a good section of the city last time he began experimenting. Luckily cats were easy to bribe, and the promise of a free drink after they were done was enough to lure in some victims... subjects....

Ghostcrown::::

He had not been invited to participate in this trial, but when he had run into a nervous young victim mumbling about the crazy cat running experiments in the city, he had a feeling he was in the right place. The young cat was all too eager to give him directions and trade places with him.

"Welcome, welcome," he heard as he joined the group. He kept his head down at first, casually looking the other way so his distinctive white chin wasn't visible. It was an experiment, and somehow he suspected this one would not go over any better than the frogs did last time, but many moons had passed; maybe things had changed. It was time to find out.

Ghostcrown shuffled up beside the gray tom to examine the doors, then straightened up as he pulled out of the group to address Desertwind directly, a playful look in his gaze as he muttered, "hey, give me a hint?"

I tried to make my childhood last for as long as possible. And I was not the only one. I didn’t acknowledge the parts that started breaking. The alcohol steaming out of human skin. The nostrils burning from the smoke of an undead cigarette crumbled into ashes. Head bashing still against the wood of the table. The past was a stampede in his mind. He poured blood in his glass and drank it…

...thinking about Lucian encountering Vren without a shirt for the first time, which is also him seeing a fully grown human man with actual body hair for the first time, and i know in my heart that boy is going to bluescreen so hard he forgets how to talk

there are several reasons for this:

1. infernii don't have body hair, so this is a Brand New Visual for him

2. Lucian spent his entire life secluded from society, and has only encountered a) his family and b) a small handful of servants and tutors, none of which he was particularly attracted to

3. if Vren is shirtless it's because he either just woke up, or got sweaty doing some sort of training, which means he's either sporting unspeakably attractive bedhead, or covered in sweat

4. Lucian is so incredibly gay and he's just now realising what his Type is

Lucian at the start of this series: i like boys and that's as far as I've gotten.

Lucian, three books later: if the small, hairy, grumpy man who likes to kill people doesn't pin me to a wall with his strong hands and kiss me right the fuck now i'm going to burn this entire adventuring party to the ground
