Ghost Wars, a 13-episode scripted horror fantasy drama series, originally premiered on Syfy in 2017. For the most part, audiences liked it. It only received two critic reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, but both gave it a “Fresh” rating. The…

Marvel has tapped “Star Trek: Picard” executive producer Terry Matalas to resurrect Vision, the synthezoid played by Paul Bettany, for a new, untitled Disney+ series set for 2026, Variety has learned exclusively. Bettany will return to the role and Matalas will serve as showrunner.
After Vision died at the hands of Thanos in 2018’s “Avengers: Infinity War,” he returned twice over in 2021’s “WandaVision,” first as a spectral creation by his beloved, Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen), through magic powered by grief; then as a rebuilt, nuts-and-bolts android with a ghost white appearance and zero memory of his past life. When the two Visions battled in the “WandaVision” finale, Wanda’s Vision restored the ghost Vision’s memories, then Wanda allowed her Vision to fade from existence. The new show will take place after those events, as ghost Vision presumably explores his new purpose in life.
Marvel brought in Matalas after his work running Season 3 of “Star Trek: Picard” — which brought back the cast of “Star Trek: The Next Generation” to widespread acclaim, garnering Matalas a WGA award nomination for the 2023 series finale — greatly impressed the top brass at the studio. (Marvel chief Kevin Feige, an avowed Trekkie, even recently appeared with Matalas on a two-hour episode of the “Star Trek” podcast “Inglorious Treksperts.
An earlier version of a Vision series had been in development with “WandaVision” creator Jac Schaeffer, but Schaeffer’s attention turned to running a separate “WandaVision” spinoff, “Agatha All Along” with Kathryn Hahn, that is set to premiere in September.
With Matalas coming on board, this will be Marvel’s first new live-action series pickup in almost two years, representing a significant shift in how the company produces television for Disney+. Originally, Marvel adopted a features model, hiring head writers to create predetermined (and, often, already announced) shows, but assigning most leadership responsibilities to the directors and creative executives. Marvel’s head of streaming, television and animation Brad Winderbaum recently told Variety that, starting in 2022, the company began to shift to a more “traditional approach” to TV, with a lengthier development period and a return to hiring writer-producers to oversee the entire production as showrunners. The company is also rebranding its live-action TV output to Marvel Television and reducing the number of shows it makes to roughly two per year, down from as many as four.
Before “Picard,” Matalas was the creator and showrunner for the Syfy series “12 Monkeys” for Universal Cable Productions, which ran for four seasons. He also was the executive producer and showrunner of Season 4 of the CBS reboot of “MacGyver” and he’s written for “Nightflyers,” “Nikita,” “Terra Nova,” and “Star Trek: Enterprise.” He’s also restored multiple “Back to the Future” DeLoreans, which have appeared on “Jay Leno’s Garage,” Super Bowl commercials and the Academy Awards.
Matalas is represented by CAA and Anonymous Content

I'm going book shopping, do you have any recommendations? Could be old books or new I don't mind 📚🍂
Sure :D
The Inheritance Cycle (There's a new ne coming out in Nov v excited for it) The books are good. The movie is... ok for a dragon movie of it's time and the audio book is enjoyable as long as you overlook the weird girly voices for the female characters and that all the dragons are doing Batman impressions for some bizarre reason.
The first four TVD books (The other vampire diaries books are ghost written and there are also a bunch written to go with the show that don't fit with the OG books. They're all pretty good but the first fur are my fav)
The Hobbit and LOTR (obvs lol)
Dracula
Frankenstein
The complete wizard of OZ collection (I just finished this and it's SO long. It look like over 90 hours to finish.)
The game of thrones books are good
The Adrian Mole collection is good but it's a bit weird if you're not British it's a lot of British humour?
War of the worlds, The first men on the moon, The time machine, the invisible man, the island of dr moreau all by HG Wells. They're all good.
Homer Illiad & Odyssey are god if you're into mythology
Lovecraft's monsters (Specifically the one put together by Neil Gaiman (Or features him? I'm not 100% clear on that but is SO SO good. It's my go to audiobook. 100% recommend if you're into spooky horror/syfy) I can't find a picture that Tumblr will let me load in of the cover but there's a link to it on amazon here https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lovecrafts-Monsters-Neil-Gaiman/dp/161696121X
The once and future king is ok but the modern version of it has had science and historical events added into it which is majorly jarring
The Sandman by Neil Gaiman
Sherlock Holmes, any of the books (the collection is like a billion pounds tho)
Anne of Green Gables. I just finished this and it was really great I heard there was more books after it which i'm going to look into so I would recommend the first one for sure.
Good Omens was a good read. (I say read but I listened to the audiobook on a trek across my town to get to the dr office lol. Kept me distracted.)
Neil Gaiman's Norse mythology collection was good too I liked the way that they were compiled the book was very easy to read.
The Narnia books are good. I like the one about the chair, to be honest I did find them a bit boring last time I read them but the chair one was good. The one about the nephew was really confusing as far as I remember.
Grimm brother Fairytale collections. there are a few different ones But the ones that say they're by the brother's have loads of different versions of the tales which is so fascinating to me and some of the copies of the book break down and explain the differences which I like because I'm a fairytale nerd.
The Jeeves collection is pretty enjoyable though I would recommend the Stephen Fry audiobook more than the book because he makes it a lot less boring.
the Witcher is good (Do not get the audio book of amazon the man does accents for all the characters and by the end of the book they all have the exact same accent and you can't tell whose who.)
There are for sure more I could recommend but I've started packing to move house and also for some reason I've forgotten all the other books i've ever read.

Hospital for the insane (part 2)
Historical tours run between March 29th to November 2nd, but make sure to book your appointment ahead of time. The hospital offers day time ghost hunts, and flashlight tours that will run you anywhere between 10 to 40 bucks, which for a 2 hour guided tour is pretty darn awesome.
Trans-Allegheny is one of those places you have to see to believe, and knowing that all the money goes towards the restoration and preservation of a National Historic Landmark is a pretty awesome too. With Halloween season just around the corner it's the perfect place to get scared in the name of preserving history! -Roadtrippers Formerly known as the Weston State Hospital, this West Virginia facility served as a sanctuary for the mentally ill in the mid-1800’s.
The history of the building holds fascinating stories of Civil War raids, a gold robbery, the "curative" effects of architecture, and the efforts of determined individuals to help better the lives of the mentally ill. Tour this nationally recognized landmark and see how it left a lasting impression on local and national history. Daily heritage tours are available for both small and large groups. The Asylum has had apparition sightings, unexplainable voices and sounds, and other paranormal activity reported in the past by guests, staff, SyFy's Ghost Hunters, Ghost Hunters Academy, the Travel Channel's Ghost Adventures and Paranormal Challenge. Step back in time and see how the mentally insane lived, and died, within these walls.
Thousands have been committed to the asylum over the years, and hundreds unfortunately died here. Decide for yourself if they’re still occupying the historic wards and treatment rooms. Have you been curious about the possible paranormal activity in the other buildings at the facility? Due to popular demand, we are having an investigation of the Medical Center, the Forensics and the Geriatrics Buildings. The investigation time will be divided to ensure each group has time in each of the three buildings. This hunt will last from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Ever thought about spending the night in a haunted lunatic asylum? Our Ghost Hunts last from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. (excludes October hunts). After everyone is registered and divided into groups, guides will assist you in your exploration of this massive gothic asylum. After a brief paranormal tour you may either hunt alone or with our experienced ghost hunting guides. Our guides are here to ensure that you have a positive and safe evening.
The Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, constructed between 1858 and 1881, is the largest hand-cut stone masonry building in North America, and is purportedly the second largest in the world, next to the Kremlin. It was designed by the renowned architect Richard Andrews following the Kirkbride plan, which called for long rambling wings arranged in a staggered formation, assuring that each of the connecting structures received an abundance of therapeutic sunlight and fresh air.
The original hospital, designed to house 250 souls, was open to patients in 1864 and reached its peak in the 1950's with 2,400 patients in overcrowded and generally poor conditions. Changes in the treatment of mental illness and the physical deterioration of the facility forced its closure in 1994 inflicting a devastating effect on the local economy, from which it has yet to recover. https://maps.roadtrippers.com/us/weston-wv/points-of-interest/trans-allegheny-lunatic-asylum-weston

Ghost Wars
image id: grayscale image of a man looking over his shoulder at figures in the mist with the title “ghost wars“
sister and I both gave it 2.5 stars out of 5
breakdown Avan/ main character; music and costumes
this is a ramble (but if you’ve seen my blog this is not a surprise)
Avan was great though Roman as a character was under used (he just seemed so tired and couldn’t give a fuck and his powers were seeing ghosts and sending them away with glowing blue eyes which happened three times which is damn shame because Avan looked hot) and the ending of the season is complete and utter bollocks and shite as he and his girl friend essentially murders a woman so his ghost girl friend (Maggie) can take over her body, because the woman they killed is terminally ill so at some point they’re going to have to kidnap and murder another person.
side note I want to make a few posts of his interactions with other characters and Maggie makes note that they’re all using him for his ability to see ghosts she does the same thing him, she asks him to speak to her Dad the man who called him a freak when we first met him and who gathered a half hearted lynch mob to kill him (don’t know if they were going through with it but there was a noose and a shovel) and threatened him with a gun but Roman being the best character helps him and reveals how Maggie died and he gets a moment with his daughter and then when they find out he left what does Maggies dad say? I told you all we couldn’t trust him (Did I mention Maggie knew part of what happened to Romans mum and she didn’t tell him until after he helped her dad)
the scares were good and so was the story (until the ending and Romans decision to run off with his bitch of a girlfriend) but it was predictable (one of the characters gets pregnant with a demon ghost baby thing and I made a joke how she was going to go into labour soon I was not wrong)
(in my search for interviews I kinda want to make another thing about this show i found a review on imdb “ The townspeople are more interesting than the main character which makes it incredibly hard to watch.” and they make no mention that the MC is a POC and i do agree kinda)
so the characters: we aready know I love Roman; Maggie annoyed me pretty early on (one of those characters where you just take a instant dislike too) and I did feel for her when she dies and her dad finding her body and moved on when she was supposed too; Val and Marilyn I liked them, Father Dan was insidious he was part of the group who evicted Nadine (Roman’s mum) out of town he was there when she died and then he spent a good amount of time sending letters to Roman pretending to be his mum; Sheriff Sam we liked him and then he promptly dies in the first epsiode and he was another of my favourite characters I wonder how he would have acted if he had lived or became a helpful ghost (I think he would have been the best character and the only one not using Roman) Karla the barkeep I liked her and was sad with what happened to her. Landis and Billy were great at times and then rest of the characters were on various of levels of hypcrotical assholes. I did like them but then they did something and I just went back to wanting them dead
funny at times like lynch mob comes for Roman and he’s just like “oh it must be Tuesday“
you know beautiful creatures book and film? there’s this quote which i was thinking about when scrolling through the tag and saw a thing commenting on Roman trying to leave in the first episode start quote “There were only two kinds of people in our town. “The stupid and the stuck,” my father had affectionately classified our neighbors. “The ones who are bound to stay or too dumb to go. Everyone else finds a way out.” end quote I only remembered the film version of this quote (shorter) and both apply I think to some of the characters in this show
the music was good (some good songs used I wish I wrote down before we moved onto the next episode) and the whistling was eerie
and the costumes for Daphne (the pirate look was great) and Roman (so comfy) were amazing
in relation to the strange reactions of the characters to what was happening I had to two thoughts about it
one is more of a question over how long the series actually takes place
and two is what if this world is part of a Lucifer style hell loop/ happy death day
eta it was a mess of ideas traditional ghosts but with tangible weakenesses but also something that can only be described as aliens
So if there was a season 2 we would watch it probably after learning what happens first (Maggie actually being the cause of all the bad stuff? what’s up with Father Dan’s ghost?) or Mike Flanagan does a reboot with Avan back

Ghost Wars Review
*disclaimer: I still highly recommend watching this show*
*season finale major spoilers below*
Ok so I’m writing this review mostly to put words to these mixed emotions the series finale has invoked in me. I feel unsettled and in the words of Shakespeare, ‘must you leave me so unsatisfied?’
Let’s start with the main protagonist: Roman ‘pure cinnamon roll who has never done anything wrong in his life’ Mercer. Look at this cute, beautiful face:
I love him. To the afterlife and beyond. #protectRomanMercer2k18
He dealt with a ton of shit his whole life. He’s been shunned and mocked by literally almost everyone at every given moment of opportunity. He thought his mother abandoned him when he was young, he never knew who his father was, and he has ZERO friends outside his ghost friends (which btw, hurt me so much). And yet?? He still helped everyone who needed it. A little reluctantly, of course, but he never turned his back on anyone in need, including the bigoted man who tried to kill him (except that one scene which was 100% justified).
Lol the only time anyone liked him was when he was saving all their asses. Maggie was right about one thing: he was used and exploited by everyone.
Speaking of Maggie, I really liked her at first, but the last few episodes corrupted her character. I can more so understand why it happened with her: she’s dead, she’s influenced by completely different reality than the rest. Arguably, she would have never been friends or even talked to Roman had she not been dead, but moot point. She was his best friend, a saving grace, and their subtle flirtation and longing was the stuff of bone marrow.
That’s why I felt majorly let down by what I felt was biggest OOC move in literally the last 2 minutes of the season finale.
He did one of the most selfish, if not the most selfish, things any of the characters did on the show. He essentially killed a terminally ill woman and let his girlfriend steal her body.
And.... I’m sorry, I just don’t agree with that as being true to the character.... like Doug said something like ‘I knew from the beginning not to trust him’ and I was like STFU Doug, your daughter’s murder would have never been solved and the town wouldn’t still be alive if it wasn’t for Roman.
BUT I believe Maggie should have let go when she and Roman said their goodbyes. They had this kind of sweet, smooth chemistry. The flirtation that hinted of what they could have been had she been alive. If she had moved on like she should have, it would have given closure and peace to their relationship. It was a sad but beautiful scene that really captured the ‘If only things were different’ and ‘almost lovers’ essence.
Instead, we get this stupid shit where they somehow twist Roman and Maggie into the wrong... the writers purposefully framed it from music to dialogue to make it look like Roman and Maggie were the bad guys the whole time. Which is stupid because it’s fucking false.
I would have been more understandable if it was framed as the only selfish thing he was willing to do. Like, ‘I sacrificed and went through so much BS, I feel terrible but I deserve the girl I love’... but it wasn’t??? For no good reason???? He was legitimately twisted into this mastermind, unfeeling asshole who was gonna fuck the girl and sip champagne as they took over the world together???
And I have this horrible feeling that they’ll do it again. They’ll take all of Daphne’s money and then switch Maggie’s soul with some other unwitting girl.
Look, I love villains. No, really! I love anti-heroes and devious gray morality. But I feel Roman Mercer was built as a fundamentally good and kind character. He never had a hint of malice and the writers completely undercut all the development he’s made throughout the season, both with how he behaved and the relationships he’s made with the townspeople.
He was a hero??? And, arguably, he would have been worshipped by the town for what he did. Again, moot point since small town mentality might revert to their old pattern cause they didn’t need him anymore.
TLDR; he got the girl, but the character assassination... the absolute injustice made me sick. IF the show gets a second season, I would hope that they fix this fuck up but I don’t believe they would.
#ghost wars#roman mercer#maggie rennie#avan jogia#ghost wars syfy#ghost wars spoilers#lol this ending might be worse than Hemlock Grove and that's saying something

Based purely on the pilots, Superstition is the better of the new horror-themed SyFy series with PoC leads that had virtually no promotion and just started this month.
Ghost Wars is about an ostracized young man (Avan Jogia) who sees ghosts who tries to leave town (apparently for the first time ever?), which apparently sets off a series of catastrophic events that causes angry ghosts to start killing residents. The premise is interesting and the acting is solid, but the writing and directing in the pilot were...lacking. I’ve stuck with shows that had worse pilots though.
Superstition is about a less-young man who returns home after 16 years because of visions he had of Very Bad Things. The last vision he had was apparently ignored, and led to his younger brother’s apparent death and running off to join the army. The family business he rejoins is both running a funeral home and dealing with supernatural elements in town. none of the twists are actually shocking, though I’m curious to see if one lasts.
I had heard of Ghost Wars before it aired, but only just, but had no idea that Superstition was even going to exist. Given that 5 of the 6 main characters in Superstition are black, I think we can guess why. Hopefully this isn’t another series where the network has doomed it to fail from the start from a 100% failure to support it. (I mean, seriously SyFy, you have Mario Van Peebles both in front of and behind the camera, and you apparently couldn’t even have a trailer out a few weeks before it aired?)
