i’ve got sex worker female!reader thoughts turning around in my brain today so have a bit of brain dump under the cut.
price hires her for a “girlfriend experience”. he wants cuddling, kisses, someone to play with his chest hair while they cool off after surprisingly intimate sex. she joins him in the shower of the hotel room en-suite and scrubs his back gently. he tips +50% of her hourly rate and leaves her with a gentle kiss on her forehead.
soap hires her for a “pornstar experience”. he wants to do all the things he’s convinced a “normal” girlfriend wouldn’t do. it’s loud, energetic and he ruins her carefully chosen lingerie. she gets fucked in front of a large mirror so soap can watch as he slams into her over and over while she moans and whines in a slightly exaggerated fashion. soap pays extra so he can get the video she shot on her phone of her deepthroating his cock sent to him.
gaz hires her as his “date”. she’s witty and charming the entire time and he can’t keep his eyes off the way her dress dips over her cleavage. she teases him with little touches to his hand and smiles prettily when he twines their fingers together. he absolutely has her gasping into his neck as he circles her clit in the back of the taxi he flagged down to take her back to her hotel room. when he leaves her with a passionate kiss she gets the thought that maybe she should’ve been the one to pay him for the pleasure.
ghost never meets up with her in person. he pays her to send him videos and photos of her lounging in bed using the toys he paid for. his favourite video is the one where she bounces on a custom ordered cock that is modelled after his own. he buys her things off her wish-list that she wants and adds a gift card to her favourite coffee shop as an extra thank you.

the amount of importance some people are placing on who is really strange. not only has jm sung about women before, but not every single song an artist sings is their current reality. i mean on the same album, there are songs about being in love with someone, which directly contradict the concept of who. i really hope yall anons going into peoples inboxes about how jikook is dead can start focusing that energy on streaming instead.

Books of 2024: July Wrap-Up.
This month, I picked my knitting back up with a vengeance, started a Three Sentences Writing Challenge, AND participated in several work-adjacent Social Events (who am I, even), On Top Of accidentally nerfing myself with several brick-like books, so! This little stack isn't half bad. Photos and/or reviews linked below:
ORDINARY MONSTERS - ★★ This was a miss for me, y'all, AND it was a brick, so it took a hot minute to read. I wanted it to be better than it was, but it rambled and wandered Too Much (which, coming from me, you KNOW is bad). Salty also-rambly 1.5k review linked.
IF FOUND, RETURN TO HELL - ★★★½ Way cuter than I was expecting!! I had a good time with the second person. Hugely relatable (which. wild. all things considered.).
THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE - ★★★½ Funnier than anticipated, and very readable for something out of the '50s! I see why it's a cornerstone of the (sub)genre. Glad I have a copy on hand now.
THE ACTOR AND THE TARGET - ★★★★★ This Rewired My Brain. It took me three (3) weeks to get through. It was so good. If you're a writer, definitely check this out, 10/10 recommend.
WHEN AMONG CROWS - ★★★½ I checked this out from the library because hardback novellas are Expensive if you're not sure you vibe with the author's style, but I had a good time! Witcher fans should descend on this, I think.
ALWAYS COMING HOME - 76*/618 pages read; will report back later. I asked the People about this one, and the People have Spoken (read: this won my What Do I Read Next Poll), but I may or may not have miscalcuated how many brain cells I have available lately between work and writing, so I may or may not be cutting this with library books. I'll finish it. Eventually. (*asterisk because she keeps referencing Other Pages In Line, and every time she does I jump ahead to read those pages instead and then come back to where I was. I'm dual wielding bookmarks through this tome, it's an Experience™ so far!)
Under the Cut: A Note About ~*★Stars★*~
Historically, I have been Very Bad™ about assigning things Star Ratings, because it's so Vibes Heavy for me and therefore Contingent Upon my Whims. I am refining this as I figure out my wrap up posts (epiphany of this month: I don't like that stars are Odd, because that makes three the midpoint and things are rarely so truly mid for me)(I have hacked my way around this with a ½). Here is, generally, how I conceptualize stars:
★ - This was Bad. I would actively recommend that you do NOT read this one, no redeeming qualities whatsoever, not worth the slog. Save Yourself, It's Too Late For Me. Book goes in the garbage (donate bin).
★★ - This was Not Good. I would not recommend it, but it wasn't a total waste or wash--something in here held my interest/kept my attention/sparked some joy. I will not be rereading this ever. Save Yourself (Or Join Me In Suffering, That Seems Like A Cool Bonding Activity).
★★★ - This was Good/Fine/Okay/Meh. I don't care about this enough to recommend it one way or another. Perfectly serviceable book, held my interest, I probably enjoyed myself (or at least didn't actively loathe the reading). I don't have especially strong feelings. You probably don't need to save yourself from this one--if it sounds like your jam, give it a shot! Just didn't resonate with me particularly powerfully. I probably won't reread this unless I'm after something in particular.
★★★½ - I liked this! I'll probably recommend it if I know it matches someone's vibes or specific requests, but I didn't commit to a star rating on Goodreads. More likely to reread, but not guaranteed.
★★★★ - I really enjoyed this!! I would recommend it (sometimes with caveats about content warnings or such--I tend to like weird fucked up funny shit, and I don't have many hard readerly NO's). Not a perfect book for me by any means, but Very Good. This is something I would reread! Join me!!
★★★★★ - I LOVED THE SHIT OUT OF THIS, IT REWIRED MY BRAIN, WILL RECOMMEND TO ANYONE AND EVERYONE AT THE SLIGHTEST PROVOCATION (content warning caveats still apply--see 4-star disclaimer). Excellent book, I'll reread it regularly, I'll buy copies for all my friends, I'll try to convince all of Booklr to read it, PLEASE join me!!

"We pay their bills so they better release the karaoke scene"
Oh!
That isn't the serve you thought it was!
Reminder that creatives especially in a big scale like a TV show almost usually have to follow strict network rules and have to cut things whether they like it or not. Also I think Tim can be upset idk about you but if I got death threats and see my colleagues deal with horrible fans I would also be upset idk just me ig

prompt: gaz and ghost on overwatch, watching soap talk to their contact on the ground, and roasting him alive on comms. just stepping on his neck nonstop. soap can hear them but can't react because the contact spooks easy -391780
@391780 i LOVED this prompt. nothing makes me happier than Ghost and Gaz banter (there's so much of it in the drafts for misery and festivals). hopefully this little blurb satisfies the prompt!
-- “Permission to speak freely, sir?”
Soap’s earpiece crackles as Gaz opens the comms, distracting him for a second from the twitchy man in front of him.
“Go ahead, sergeant.” Ghost rumbles.
“You ever realise that Soap stands with his hip cocked?” Soap can hear the shit eating grin in Gaz’s voice. The sleekit wee bastard.
“Hm. Looks like a teapot.”
“A teapot, sir?”
“Like the nursery rhyme.”
The comm crackles again as it cuts off Garrick’s stifled chuckle.
Soap shifts his stance, subtly redistributing his weight to rest evenly and bringing his hands up to loop his thumbs into the shoulder straps of his vest. There, now he can’t be called a fuckin’ teapot. The informant flicks his eyes over Soap warily.
The comm clicks on again.
“Think he heard us, sergeant?” Ghost asks, amusement lacing his tone.
“Can’t be sure sir, it appears Cap has taken Soap’s place temporarily.” Gaz’s voice wobbles with repressed laughter.
“Can’t see it myself, Garrick.”
“Why’s that, sir?”
“Doubt Price would dare show ‘is face if he had a mop like that on his head.” Ghost deadpans. Soap feels his eye twitch as Gaz chokes back another burst of laughter. Cheeky fuckin’ cunts.
“Looks -” Gaz cuts off the comm before flicking it back on, “looks like he lost a fight with a pair of clippers -” the comm cuts off again and Soap swears he can hear Gaz wheezing somewhere above him.
Soap moves one of his hands to scratch at the back of his helmet with his middle finger, aware of the way the informant tracks his movements. If those pair of wallopers blow this op, Soap swears to himself that he’ll dye every single one of Ghost’s balaclavas pink and sew a Saltire on the front of Gaz’s cap in place of the Union Jack.
Abruptly the tone on the comms change.
“Garrick.” Ghost snaps, the teasing lilt to the banter is gone and in its place is the hard tone Soap’s heard before when things are about to get dicey.
“I see ‘em.”
“Keep them in your sights, I don’t like the look of -” whatever Ghost doesn’t like the look of gets cut off as an explosion sends a shockwave of sound and dust over Soap, forcing him to cover his head from flying debris.
Much later when the three of them are getting chewed out by Price for “missing a whole fucking truckload of insurgents because you three were too busy dicking around on the bloody comms” Soap decides that his little sewing project isn’t nearly enough in the way of payback.

Review: Worth His Salt (a Tattooed Corpse story) by Ofelia Gränd
Rating:4🌈 Sometimes a story by Ofelia Grand is less a long winding, complicated adventure for her characters and more a fleeting vivid window into a certain important moment of her characters lives. It doesn’t matter if it’s a science fiction story or a tale of a ghost and a family of witches set in a lighthouse in an anonymous coastal town. Each novella has all this author’s narrative…

Book Asks - any one of the below that sounds fun. (Also, sorry the numbers are off... cut and paste is being weird)
What was your most anticipated release? Did it meet your expectations?
Did you participate in or watch any booklr, booktube, or book twitter drama?
Did you DNF anything? Why?
What reading goals do you have for next year?
hi there!! thanks for asking!! referencing this post (open offer til end of year!) i'm renumbering for bookkeeping purposes sorry don't mind me
20. What was your most anticipated release? Did it meet your expectations?
i think i've been running a year behind on Releases. i usually do B&N preorder sales, but this year i preordered almost exclusively paperbacks (which had hardback releases earlier). i was really hyped for TRANSLATION STATE in paperback and GRAVEYARD SHIFT in hardback, and those were both delightful!! TRANSLATION STATE was a smidge disappointing to me for aroace reasons, but overall i did so love the Translators and enjoyed Most Of The Book, and GRAVEYARD was an excellent little nocturnal romp that knew what it had space for and did a great job in those constraints.
21. Did you participate in or watch any booklr, booktube, or book twitter drama?
i'm much more of a "popcorn muncher and lurker," when it comes to book drama--my group chat popped off a couple times about various and sundry illumicrate nonsenses and we also roasted some Bad Author Takes (we love a good Safe Space), but honestly i had a lot going on this year and was less attentive in the popcorn munching bleachers than i have been in years prior haha.
24. Did you DNF anything? Why?
so one of my toxic reading traits is that i do not, in fact, tend to DNF anything, because A.) i can read very quickly, so it's almost never a huge time sink and B.) at a certain level of Ugh, i flip from "reading this as a Reader to Enjoy It" to "reading this as a Writer to Tear It To Shreds for Craft Reasons." i am not sure that this is a particularly healthy reading strategy, but it has served me well thus far! love a good hate read every once in a while.
looking at my shelves after the fact, the only two things i maybe could've DNF'd were GHOST STATION and ORDINARY MONSTERS, which both had a lot of potential and COULD have been up my alley but were, in fact, Bad™. oh, and DAEMON VOICES was kind of a slog, too. i'm pretty sure i blogged more thoroughly about all three of those at time time--if you're interested in Rants, search those titles in my tags haha.
25. What reading goals do you have for next year?
oooh great question, i have Several! i've really been enjoying the "2x in 202x" type goals list, so i have one of those put together for 2025 (cries that doesn't feel like a real year). i'm also doing a nature writing subscription box, and i'd like to stay semi-on-top of reading those as they come to me. and i would also REALLY like to start actually reading some of the russian poetry i acquired in the....spring.....of this year.....so i'll probably put that on the Goals Radar, too.
thanks again for asking!! this was fun :)
