Summary: In which you’re scared, and he… well, he is too.

How Héctor managed to convince you? No clue.

Going to a ‘Spooky Halloween October Fest’ was something you had on your list of things to do for weeks, if not months. And what better opportunity to go with your boyfriend than now?

That was until he caught sight of the haunted house. You declined, one after the other, yet he was as determined as ever to get you to agree. With a little bribing of free food and sweet treats for a couple of months, you finally caved.

He held out his hand, and you grabbed two of his fingers, already bracing yourself for the jumpscares and unnecessarily scary sound effects. You hated being scared. Loathed it, even.

“I swear,” you murmur after one of the workers looks over at the two of you and nods, “I’m starting to think your bribe wasn’t worth this.”

All the Fort boy does is laugh, rolling his eyes.

Things were going fine—if it weren’t for the yells and screams from the people way ahead of you, warning you of what’s to come. But still, it was going fine… for the time being, you supposed.

That’s when you both turn a corner, and a woman in a witch costume jumps out, eyes wide with fake blood trailing down her jaw. You jump, letting out a yelp as you let go of your boyfriend and hurry past the scare actor, leaving him behind.

Catching up to you, he couldn’t help but let a big smile grace his lips. “You scare easily, huh?”

“I scare easily when it’s something unexpected.”

“You couldn’t see her hat peeking out?” He asks, gratefully lending you his arm when he sees you reaching out for it. “Because it was right there.”

Your brows instantly furrowed, “If I did notice her, would I have jumped and run away from you?”

“Point taken—” he’s cut off when a loud effect sounds, his body jolting slightly and instinctively pulling you toward him, making you giggle.

“I actually think that made me feel a lot better.”

How would that make you feel better? He had thought, looking down at you with narrowed eyes. “What? Me flinching? I wasn’t expecting it.”

“No, the fact that I got scared by an actual person and you were spooked by a literal loud audio.”

From your teasing alone, Héctor slid his arm out of your grip and quickened his pace, making you tense at the thought and feeling of being alone. It didn’t help that the background music turned from calm and eerie to loud and suspenseful.

“Héctor!” You whisper-shouted, watching how he disappeared into the next room. You winced. Was he seriously leaving you alone? “Héctor! Please.”

Cautiously entering the dark room, you instantly let out a scream when you heard the whisper of a faint ‘boo’ in your ear. Your eyes clamped shut, and you were about to bolt when familiar arms wrapped around your waist. “It’s just me. I—” he was unable to finish his sentence due to his loud laughter. You could’ve been annoyed. You really could’ve been. But you weren’t, not even a little bit. Instead you smiled and swatted at his arms.

“You’re insufferable!” You huffed. “Like, really?”

“Do you want to leave? We’re close to the end.”

Of course that’s what you wanted. “I think you’re an insufferable genius. Come on, come on!”

Ravenous is Haunted

Within the lore of Ravenous, eating people causes you to “absorb [their] spirit,” but what does that mean in practice?

Ives mentions that eating someone brave gives you a surge of bravery, which is exactly how Boyd goes from too scared to move to single-handedly capturing the enemy command. The spirit of his fellow soldiers and specifically his commanding officer compel him to do it. But we know that this personality shift is not permanent, it abates. However, I believe that there are other more subtle influences that remain. 

There’s a whole collection of things Boyd, Ives, and Hart do and say that mirror the actions and words of the people they’ve eaten…

The protectiveness that Boyd shows towards the Fort Spencer crew after Ives arrives as colonel is a new trait for him and highly reminiscent of Reich’s protectiveness towards Toffler. From the moment he’s stuck with Ives at the fort, Boyd also immediately decides to murder him, the thing that Reich died furious at him for not doing, and never strays from this mission at all. Boyd and Ives both headbutt each other in their final fight, a Knox fighting move, and Boyd also attempts to strangle Ives at one point, which is Reich’s. Another example that I like is when Hart says to the chickens he’s feeding “run away! run for your lives!” which is what Toffler died doing. These are all small moments in isolation, but together they form a compelling picture. 

For another thing, you have Boyd mentioning to Hart near the end the “nightmares” he’s “still” having about Reich, Cleaves, and Knox. These aren’t just random trauma nightmares, they are specifically about the three people of the Fort Spencer crew that he’s eaten. And, considering how strongly Hart reacts to the mention of this, he is likely experiencing the same thing. Since it is canon that they have actually ABSORBED these people by eating them, I don’t think it’s a stretch at all to call this a haunting. 

Put these together and you have the people who have been eaten haunting the cannibal characters at night and maintaining at least some sway over them by day, often without them even realizing it… Fun stuff!

As far as Ives goes, I think that he is less affected by this phenomenon than Boyd and Hart are. He’s been eating people for much longer than they have, he has no moral compass whatsoever, and he has a very strong personality, so he’s not gonna let a little haunting get to him. That being said, who knows what quirks of his personality we might be able to attribute to people he’s eaten in the past if we knew more about them? I also think that his assumption that he is unaffected by the people he eats is a part of his downfall, and I’ll explain that in a moment. 

The last thing I want to talk about is the bell because that’s what REALLY gets me mmmmmmmmmmm… SO! During Boyd’s fight with Ives, there’s a moment where Ives has fled the room they were fighting in and Boyd doesn’t know where he is, so he’s checking behind all these random doors and not finding him when he hears a bell ringing in the courtyard. He goes out and sees the ringing bell but no one near it. Instead of going towards it where he knows Ives is likely waiting for him though, he walks towards the barn, as if in a daze. When he enters, he sees the bear trap and gets an “Aha!” look on his face. 

Now, who do we know who is associated with both that bell and a bear trap? It’s Reich! He is the only person we ever see ring that bell and (in a deleted scene) he uses bear traps as target practice, shooting at them to snap them shut while Boyd watches. So, at the very least, we can say that Reich indirectly inspires Boyd in that course of action. 

BUT, because I am me, I’d like to take it a step further by proposing that, since Reich is haunting both Boyd AND Ives, he influences Ives to ring the bell (with Ives not consciously thinking anything more of about than “this will surely get Boyd’s attention >:)”) and then influences Boyd to walk over to the barn instead of immediately continuing the fight so he can show him how to end it once and for all. Boyd asked Reich to “tell me what to do,” and Reich answered him!

09 Ghoap who lost and found each other again (MW2 2009 AU? No MCD, Loose Ends didn't happen)

Give me John and Simon, two soldiers become close friends (leading to something more) through the 141 who - after being deployed on seperate missions for a longer time - both get severely injured while trying to track down Makarov, resulting in a medical discharge before Shepherd betrays them all.

Through their day to day life, neither man can let the thought of the other go, wondering how the other is doing. They did help each other through their respective struggles a lot, after all.

One fateful day, they both find themselves on the same train station (don't ask me why or how, I don't have any actual plot figured out).

John, sporting the same warhawk he's had for years, not quite as shredded as he used to be and a little more relaxed looking - though still next to built like a fridge and fitter than Simon himself was these days.

Simon standing in front of him, very different, but so, so familiar. He was a bit too skinny and seemed have gotten a lot of new tattoos to cover up his scars - and still, he looked so much the cranky lieutenant he had last seen so long ago.

It's a heartfelt, bag-dropping and running-towards-each-other-moment - nearly. In reality, they stare at each other for a hot minute before slowly lowering their guards, their gazes morphing into a sudden wonder.

"John?"

"Simon?"

They both ask at the same time and it barely takes them three seconds before there's arms wrapped around bodies, tightly. Warm. And both drop whatever plans they made to catch up.

This isn't worked out in the slightest and doesn't have any plot or thoughts other that "I want them to reunite and hug", but I still hope someone enjoys. 🤍

Some pictures of the "Garrison Ghost Walk" tour from Fort Meigs' Facebook page. I'm going to the last tour of the season tonight (with a later adults only group), and I doubt my phone camera will take good pictures after dark.

This will be my first ghost tour at Fort Meigs, and I'm curious about what kind of stories they'll share—some legend or myth from 1813, or paranormal experiences of the historical site workers and volunteers?

I think a lot about how the present-day reconstruction of Fort Meigs does not look much like the armed camp in its heyday (when it was a sea of mud and filth and not a grassy park). But the human remains of countless individuals are present throughout the site. I wouldn't say that it feels haunted, but there is definitely a heaviness in the atmosphere.

Super hot take but I genuinely don't get why Forte is so appealing/popular. As someone who has played a bunch of Japanese games and watched a bunch of anime she comes off as THE MOST bland and stereotypical of the entire cast in that game.

I've seen a hundred "lady knight" characters before (Ingrid from Fire Emblem 3 Houses is just one other example, and I'd say she's much more interesting). She's portrayed as something of a tomboy who is "secretly" girly because she has the super common (in Japanese media at least) girly traits of loving sweets and being afraid of ghosts. Once again looking at 3 Houses, someone else who has those exact two traits is Lysithea, who has them for basically the same reason. Those traits exist solely to "soften" her and make her seem more feminine (and thus in theory more appealing) without really affecting her personality in any way. Also note how many other girls in that game happen to love sweets compared to guys. And how often one or two males in the Rune Factory games specifically DISLIKE sweets while girls almost never do.

A better example of those traits showing up within the Rune Factory series itself would be Rune Factory 3. There are several characters who notably love sweets, some being Shara and Monica, who are very obviously feminine anyway in terms of appearance/personality/interests, and two others are Blaise and Rusk, two guys who comfortably deny the "norm" (again, in Japanese media anyway; I don't think Western media cares so much about whether liking sweets is seen as feminine/masculine) and love sweets while ironically Colette has no strong feelings on them despite being a big food lover.

And then Raven is similarly afraid of ghosts as a more hidden "feminine" trait, but HER dislike of ghosts and things related to death actually plays into her arc in the game. She doesn't like things that make her think of death because it makes her think of what she's lost. And she's afraid of losing what she has now. Also, unlike Forte's fear of ghosts being played almost exclusively for comedy and feminine appeal, Raven also happens to be STUBBORN, meaning she reluctantly faces her fear of death and handling death-related objects head-on if it means she doesn't have to look weak or rely on others. Her insistence on carrying a skull herself despite clearly being uncomfortable with it, when Micah is repeatedly offering to do it for her, is an important, dramatic moment in the middle of her "route" that almost results in Micah getting hurt and her secret getting outed.

I just don't think Forte does anything new or interesting with 90% of her character traits. She's a basic lady knight that I've seen way too many times before, and has stock Japanese girly traits to show she's secretly more feminine despite those traits not actually being important to her personality or events and romance at all.

She has a "just gals being pals" dynamic with Margaret that is nice in theory, but in execution it feels like Margaret is way more into Forte and overtly admires her than vice versa. I can tell Forte truly cares about Margaret as a friend, but it's not nearly as balanced as the Dylas/Doug obsession with each other is when it comes to eyebrow-raising moments/lines. If anything, Forte outright downplays or dismisses Margaret's admiration of her a lot of the time while offering little in return. Outside of festivals where Forte is remarking on or expecting Margaret getting a lot of attention from others, there's not any indication that Forte finds her particularly appealing, whereas Margaret has tons of lines about how amazing and even attractive she thinks Forte is.

The one thing about her that actually is unique and that I like is her clear love and devotion, yet somewhat strained and awkward relationship with her brother. That aspect is what actually matters, and it works well. It endears me to her as a character... but it isn't enough to save her for me as a love interest when everything else either does nothing for me or outright turns me off.
