Okay but we really don’t talk enough about Ghost Dimitri… like, from a writing perspective, why did that even happen?? Like isn’t it weird that even when it’s not the Blue Lion’s route Dimitri gets these weird steal-the-show moments? We never see a ghost Edelgard moment which would almost arguably be more tragic since she dies over and over again in different campaigns where she believes she’s doing the right thing and is trying to destroy a shadowy conspiracy force but no one knows that so they villainize her in history. I LOVE Dimitri and I’m certainly not complaining about these moments, but it’s technically odd how he gets so much more love than the other house leaders. Even in Three Hopes I feel like he’s always portrayed as this bad ass honorable figure even when he’s the enemy of a campaign. I always feel guilty when I go after Dimitri but I have no problem going against Edelgard and Claude.

Okay so like… Ghost Dimitri / Not-a-Ghost Dimitri shows up in Silver Snow and together with Byleth they act like they have this super close bond but in this timeline Byleth is way more emotionally attached to Edelgard rather than Dimitri. In this timeline Byleth was always teaching the Black Eagles and bonding with them so it’s all the weirder that ghost Dimitri would appear before this Byleth. So in a story where I should feel sad about the tragedy of Byleth and Edelgard fighting I’m still feeling sad about Dimitri because of moments like this. It’s just sort of a strange move from a writing perspective. NOT A BAD ONE, JUST A LITTLE WEIRD.

Also, I feel like FE3H isn’t usually *that* ambiguous so moments like this are really strange and memorable

Everytime I see your Pat lolcalization posts, I can't help but think if this is him overcompensating for voicing the character of n*zi germany in the first seasons of the hetalia anime.

I can't say and I'd rather not say anything about Pat's intent or own agenda or whatever -

But the interesting "lolcalisation changes" and direction give to VAs really seem to favour a certain reading of the events happening in FE16 and to this day, I still can't understand how that managed to be released without getting at least some flak.

Sure Fates' lolcalisation is a tough nut to beat and nothing comes quite close to what happened to Fates to FE16/Nopes, and yet I wish I am joking when I say nearly 80% of the lines involving Supreme Leader and/or Rhea/the CoS should be double checked, because "Dany expy bringing a revolution" has to fit in the story that is FE16, and that's talking about the washed down version of Dany some people have and not the one who uses violence for the greater good, until she starts to realise that the "greater good" is as solid as smoke and runs away from the - well-intentioned ! - mess she created.

Again, I don't think anything was malicious with the lolcalisation Fodlan got, is it just a case of misunderstanding the game and slapping archetypes and "trendy notions" to make this "strange" game sell like hotcakes in your home market?

Or is it another case of "think of the children Susan" where Susan sure as hell can't endorse a character presented as the heroine sprout disgusting things and advocate for imperialism 101 so the heroine is now rewritten?

Or is it the lolcalisation team - after looking at the jp script - try to make the general idea of "you must feel bad for this character" somehow work, because they thought no one would seriously want to walk with her and feel any sort of sad uwus for the "you have pointy ears, you cannot rule over humans" red emperor? So they modified the script and directed the VA accordingly ?

IDK, but I think if you've been long enough on this blog you know my stance on localisation and lolcalisation but this discrepency between the two versions (or at least two audios) really took me by surprise when the game was released in 2019 lol

I feel like theres something in the way dimitri danger functions as a ghost in the narrative of paranatural, not just him being a premature birth (and canonically the only character who became a spectral through a near death experience, that we know of so far at least) but the guilt isaac feels about everything that happened and the way it hangs heavy over the activity club, i think everyone takes a little bit of that blame for themselves, actually. The presence of that history is felt by the audience long before we learn literally anything, and the more that we learn about him the more that passive role that hes had to take on comes to the forefront, of the guilt and of always being there but not really. You cant be a burden if you reduce yourself to only an apparition, but you also become so much more because of that

Viktor would definitely notice something was off with the way you are acting almost immediately, with the way you would hold your side subtly every few minutes and seeing you take painkillers more often,he would confront you saying “My dear,are you ok?”,once you had explained to him that you were on your period he forced you to lay down and take it easy for a few days weather you like it or not,you felt a pain in your side he was already there to soothe it,your hungry? He already has food for you,he heard your stomach growl a few minutes ago.During your period he always made sure you were comfortable treating you like the worlds most fragile flower.He was like a very obedient dog, more then he is when your not on your period,you ask him for something he does it without hesitation, he’ll be pretty much act the same way he does everyday he is with you.

Dimitri Petrenko:

Lil’soft boi, he doesn’t notice until he sees you taking medicine,when he saw you taking medicine he began to worry wondering if you were sick or injured,so he walked up to you and put his hand to your forehead (reader):”baby? What are you doing?”,(dimitri):are you ok babe? Are you sick?”,you explain that you are on your period and how painful it is he goes into full caring mode,he does not like the idea of you being in pain so he helps you get the things you need and gets the things you want,he cuddles you to sleep whispering in Russian to you saying nothing but sweet and comforting things to you

 He doesn’t know until he ask “what crawled up you ass?”,after you finished beating the sh*t out of him you tell him you are on your period and that’s when it clicks like all the other boys he takes care of you but he teases you a little bit not a lot to make you angry but enough to make you annoyed,but he is usually cuddling you on the couch watching tv to keep you at bay,

Ghost: 

He knows before you even have your period and when you have your period you are more annoying and wants no part in it so he hands you you stuff and throws you into your room coming into your room every now and then to check on you (he thinks he isn’t very good at showing affection but it’s enough for you),he will stay with you if you really want him to but he will be very annoyed by you,but still know he loves you more than anything in the world ❤️

(I did my best,this is the worst sh*t I’ve made but I think some may find it interesting so feel free to steal some stuff from here for ideas😅)

one of these days i'm going to write a long post about how fe3h loves to have its cake and eat it too, wrt character and plot depth

every character can be boiled down to a few-word outline, an easily-marketable trope -- which is then detailed and developed on. with more or less success and thoroughness, there is thought and care put into what kind of person inhabits that trope, and what it feels like to be them; the character is fleshed out within the confines that marketability allows

but their trope is still the defining structure, and you don't have to look any deeper; the narrative won't force you unless you go looking for it
