Mit der Initiierung des „ocean tribute“ Award haben sich die die boot Düsseldorf, die monegassische Fürst Albert II Stiftung und die Deutsche Meeresstiftung ein klares Ziel gesetzt: Menschen, Projekte oder Initiativen bei ihrem Einsatz für den Meeresschutz zu unterstützen. Seit 2018 wird der mit 20.000 € dotierte Preis jährlich im Rahmen der BLUE MOTION NIGHT verliehen. Der diesjährige Preisträger ist das Netzwerk „ECOP AFRICA“ – mit der Vision einer naturbasierten Kohlenstoffentfernung und nachhaltiger Aquakultur in Afrika. Stellvertretend für die Initiative nahm Peter Teye Busumprah aus Ghana den Preis in Empfang. „ECOP AFRICA“ setzt sich für einen gesunden Ozean ein, indem das Netzwerk beispielsweise Meeresökosysteme repariert und neu aufbaut. I used the technique of reverse appliqué and painting to visually communicate my narrative.

During the lesson on reverse appliqué, unfortunately I wasn't in. However, I was able to catch up with the teacher and she was able to debrief me on what to do, from there, I was able to grasp the concept and practice at home. What I did was, with the sewing machine I have at home, I sowed two fabrics together, then with a pair of scissors, I cut the top layer of the fabric to reveal the bottom layer of the fabric.

With the technique of reverse appliqué the bit I found challenging was cutting up the top layer in order to see the bottom layer. This is because when cutting up the top layer with a pair of scissors, if not steady and careful, you might end up cutting important pieces. So instead what I did to tackle the situation was to purchase a cutting knife. Now, I am able to cut with precision without accidentally cutting up important pieces that adds value to my narrative.

The picture I used is a picture of the escalators in Bullring shopping centre.

The architectural design of the escalators- zig-zag is what I am going to be using to visually communicate my narrative.

The motion of the escalators- up and down mimics the mindset of the two generations- young and old. The mindset of the older generation because it lacks colour,(colour meaning, it lacks contemporary innovativeness) I am going visually communicate that through the the downward motion of the escalator.

I used the colours black and white to represent the older generation. The colour black is paint and the colour white is fabric which I further developed.

The fabric has been distressed and it shows how mentally stress the older generation are. In 2015, Kanye West, as part of his season 3 collection released a "destroyed crop blouclè sweater" The word "destroyed" and the texture of the clothes is what inspired me to produce my very own distress fabric to visually communicate my narrative.

For the younger generation, I used colour to represent their mindset, and in relation with the escalator, the younger generation are represented by the upwards motion of the escalator. The colours I chose were red, yellow, green pink and blue. 3 of the colour are part of the Ghana flag, meaning the younger generation represent the country mentally more than the older generation. This is evident through the comparison between the distressed white fabric and the amalgamation of colours I used to visually communicate the younger generation and their innovativeness.

For the colours, I was inspired by the artist Milton Glaser.

The reason why I was inspired by the front cover is because it rworks with my narrative- the colourful hair, the black silhouette and the negative space is on par with how I visually communicate my narrative.

The technique of reverse appliqué reveals the fabric underneath. I got inspiration from the kente fabric in Ghana. Kente is a cultural fabric in Ghana, it is so intricate to just Ghanaian.

In print workshop, I used disperse dye to make the colour of my fabric and with different paint brushes, I created the patterns on the fabric. I choose to the colour and the patterns because like a said it reminds me of the kente cloth in Ghana.

The cut I made on the paper to reveal the fabric underneath. The cut is a depiction of two people and they represent the 2 two generations

It shows how the older generation and younger generation are culturally identical. The thing that sets us apart is the way our mind manifests. The older generation’s mindset manifests in black and white and I have visually communicated that with black paint and white fabric. When I was manipulating the white fabric, I used a flame touch to burn holes and used mud to change the colour of the fabric. The process reminded me of how ripped jeans were made in the late 90s.

From Friendship to Fraud: Ghanaian National Arrested for ‘Love Parcel’ Scam in Delhi!

In a recent development, the Cyber Police Station of the Outer District in Delhi has successfully apprehended an African national known as Big Jos, whose real name is Joseph and who hails from Ghana. This arrest comes in connection to a sophisticated online fraud operation that primarily targeted unsuspecting individuals, particularly lonely or single women. The investigation began following a complaint filed by Babli, a resident of Delhi, who had become a victim of this heartless scam.

Babli's ordeal commenced in July 2023 when she received a seemingly innocuous friend request on her Instagram account from an unknown user who claimed to be a pilot from the United States. Intrigued by this charming stranger, she accepted the request, setting into motion a series of events that would ultimately lead to her financial and emotional distress. Regular conversations and chats on WhatsApp ensued, not just with this enigmatic individual but also with a group of other foreign friends.

As their virtual friendship deepened, the Instagram user made a tantalizing promise to Babli – he would send her a gift parcel, including US dollars. In a shocking turn of events, Babli received an unexpected phone call from a woman purporting to be from the customs department. This caller furnished her with three bank account numbers and insisted that Babli make payments to cover custom duties and other taxes related to the anticipated parcel.

Trusting the individuals she had been communicating with, Babli complied and transferred an astonishing sum of 1.71 lakh rupees to the provided accounts. However, her trust was cruelly betrayed as the alleged individuals promptly vanished from her life, their mobile phones switched off, and the Instagram user erasing their WhatsApp chats. It was then that Babli realized she had fallen prey to an intricate hoax.

Swift and decisive action was taken by the Cyber Police Station in response to Babli's complaint. They registered a case under FIR No. 0063/2023, invoking sections 419, 420, 120B, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The investigation included comprehensive technical surveillance of the alleged Instagram IDs and WhatsApp numbers, eventually leading to a significant breakthrough.

On September 14, 2023, a raid was executed at Vikas Vihar, Nilothi Extn., Nihal Vihar, Delhi. During this operation, the suspect, Big Jos, also known as Joseph, was apprehended. He is a resident of Ghana, Africa, and had been residing in India without valid visa documents since July 2018. The police also seized the mobile phones used in the commission of the crime during the raid.
