I am nodding at all of the above and only reblogging to add that, were I inclined to write Obi-Wan as not being good with tech it would be for the following reason:

As one gets older, it's common to just...not want to bother with learning the latest thing because...because the previous things work for you still, or because your brain is full enough already and you'd rather not add to it.

I say this as someone who would be slightly older than he was in the Kenobi series, were I to wake up in the GFFA tomorrow, and also as someone who is good with tech. There comes a point where you start to measure the proverbial return on investment.

And I can totally buy him being like "fuck that noise I'm learning how to build a windmill instead so I can grind my beans for caff while I sleep".

No but like. Some of y’all cannot tell the difference between “He would not fucking say that” (fanon) and “he would not fucking say that” (canon). And a lot of y’all treat “He would not fucking say that” (fanon) as canon when. They’re not the same. And that’s part of the problem. Fanon and canon are not the same, which means that people are allowed to interpret differently as they wish

It’s canon Wolffe is a grumpy bastard. We literally have that behavior onscreen, we can point to so many things to show that’s what he is. We know he doesn’t suffer fools lightly, all we have to do is look at his scenes with C3PO.

But it’s fanon Wolffe is emotionally repressed. Is he? Probably. But we don’t have confirmation. For all we know, he could be being a grumpy bastard because he’s in constant pain from his eye or because that’s just his personality. We don’t have Wolffe sitting down and writing out his feelings or talking to someone and explaining it. We can make good guesses as to why he’s a grumpy bastard. But at the end of the day, we cannot claim it as canon because we have no explicit text within the show stating that

And sometimes. Fanon is just dead wrong. I know I had that joke about Obi-wan playing being technologically incompetent. That’s the fanon. Canon is actually Obi-wan knows his technology, he’s good with it. But somehow, fanon decided no, he’s not good with it. So now everyone sees him as a bumbling idiot when it comes to new technologies when he’s not! At most he’s just an old man who knows how to use a QR code but hates it on principle. And yes, that is a joke but. We know Obi-wan sees blasters as “uncivilized,” he says so himself. We hear his arguments for why he prefers lightsabers. But. That doesn’t say anything about his relationship with other technology. We don’t know how he feels about it because it’s not touched on in the shows or movies

That’s not even covering that fanon can, and should, have multiple iterations! I want multiple explanations for why Wolffe is grumpy. I want to hear whether people think Obi-wan is just an old man who understands QR codes and hates them or if it’s because he’s afraid of new technology, even if he’s good with it. All of these ideas can co-exist! They should co-exist! But when fanon is treated as canon, suddenly only One Idea is the right one when we don’t even have confirmation it’s a fucking thing!!!

I’m not saying people can’t read into things and have fun with it. That’s the whole point of a fandom is just… fucking off and playing with characters like barbies. And that oftentimes involves a lot of projection. But some of y’all genuinely get upset when fanon isn’t treated as canon when. It’s just fanon. It doesn’t matter if my fanon idea is right and yours is wrong, it doesn’t matter if one is more popular than the other or someone more popular said it.  It doesn’t fucking matter because we don’t know. It’s fanon, not fucking canon
