🪐 hello! i am back from oppenheimer. prepare for spoilers.
every time he had an anxiety attack or envisioned the A-bomb,, i had one too. hhhh i wanted to clap my hands over my ears, shut my eyes, and run out of the theater screaming.
there was also the nudity?? like the writers were like, "yes. oppenheimer was a womanizer. but this is a historical movie. um. how about we put the "porn without plot" trope?" coulda showed it another way. the nudity scenes were so so awkward. i don't mind nudity in movies; don't get me wrongfjdjdj just . if it's awkwardly done,,, it's such a turn-off for me aaaa
plot-wise,,, it is so sad?? and kinda confusing?? i get he had a rough life with the whole deposition. but ?????? maybe i just see it that way bc i was expecting something like dunkirk or darkest hour. not . *waves hands towards oppenheimer* (imitation game was kinda the same deal; the fact it was moreso about the person rather than the history of how the enigma code was broken and the device used to crack it,,,,,,, bit of a letdown. my mistake for raising the bar for my hopes and expectations for both movies too high.)
lots of cool actors that appeared either briefly or not. uh gary oldman played harry truman (recognized him from darkest hour). florence pugh!! cillian murphy, ofc. OMG! RAMI MALEK AND ROBERT DOWNEY JR. had to do a double take when i realized he played strauss lmao matt damon, emily blunt, tony goldwyn, kenneth branagh, christopher denham, gregory jbara, jason clark, james d'arcy, jack quaid, dane dehaan!!!!! oh! and tim dekay from i think??? white collar? lmao i got whiplash seeing so many people from things like argo, white collar, blue bloods, dunkirk, scandal, hawkeye and black widow (florence pugh), peaky blinders, devil wears prada and a quiet place (emilyblunt), bourne movies and interstellar (matt damon), zero dark thirty. it was wild!!
LASTLY,,,,, contrary to all my criticism, a piece of me did enjoy oppenheimer. from a history buff's pov aka. mine,, it was hella interesting learning the history and science and politics surrounding the bomb making process. also emily blunt's performance was the cherry on top! holy shit! my favorite scene is where it is her character's turn to be interviewed and kitty keeps turning the prosecutor's questions right back at him. the way she took no shit! get me a woman like kitty oppenheimer!! also it was so so cool how they did the scenes for strauss in black and white but the scenes with oppenheimer in color. really liked that! music score was kinda?? good?? probs?? would only listen to one or two tracks tho.
anyway. would i go see oppenheimer again? not really. no. what would i rate it? hm........... 6?? out of 10 stars. i take two off for the confusing way they did the plot and two more off for the nudity. if you're not a history buff like me and will enjoy oppenheimer solely as a movie,,,, then maybe? you'll like it. if ur a history buff like me,,, probably?? not then? go give it a try, anyway, tho, if u can!

Hi Tumblr! My name is Arwen Paredes. I’m 14 years old and currently attending Florida Atlantic University High School. My birthday is August 2nd, 2005. I plan to double major in Multimedia Studies and English, the ultimate goal being to find employment as a screenwriter, cinematographer, director, really just something in the film industry. I’m a huge film buff. I’ve been trying to watch a new movie everyday over the quarantine break, but it’s getting kinda difficult to find anything good lately (leave suggestions if you’d like). My current favorite movie is 1917, it’s an absolute cinematic masterpiece and watching it kind of feels like you’re playing a horror game because to the utter amount of suspense. I highly recommend it! I wouldn’t call myself a history buff, though I do tend to hyperfixate on certain time periods like the early 1900’s. I’m just intensely attracted to vintage aesthetics in general. I’m very bisexual and very proud of it! Some other things that I like include:
- Bohemian Rhapsody (2018) + Rocketman (2019), musical biopics are the best biopics!
- Anything that involves Leonardo DiCaprio because he’s perfect
- War films and T.V. shows (1917, The Pacific, Band of Brothers, Midway, Saving Private Ryan, Dunkirk)
- Musical theatre (Les Mis, Hamilton, Heathers, Six, Beetlejuice)
- Star Wars (but the last movie was okay at best)
- My bass guitar, named Freddie
- The Marvel Cinematic Universe
- My Chemical Romance, Girl in Red, Beach Bunny, Queen, Doja Cat, mxmtoon
- Period dramas/historical films in general (Peaky Blinders, Titanic, Anne with an E, The Great Gatsby)
- My friends, especially class period 2 of English Honors I <3
So, that’s me! Like everyone else, when I first heard about the Coronavirus, I was confused, nervous, and a little scared. My initial reaction was to freak out and panic about the apocalypse being real, but reality finally kicked in when I got my first online assignments. It was tough at first, keeping a steady schedule while at home, especially with so many more distractions than in a school environment. However, I’m trying my best to manage my time wisely. Besides, school keeps me distracted from all the chaos on the news and in the outside world so I find it more beneficial to pour myself into my schoolwork. I’ll admit that still doesn’t stop me from a Tiktok or Netflix binge every once in a while. That’s all for now! Thanks for listening, Tumblr! You’ll hear from me again very soon :) Attached is a moodboard of how I feel in quarantine (Images are from Google, filter is from @davidhallers on Instagram).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀sincerely,

Cat! Thanks for asking :’) Here’s the link to the post if anyone wants it!
1.) What’s the most depressing movie you’ve ever watched?
I can’t decide between A Single Man or Inside Llewyn Davis. Both of these are less “sad movies” and more “depression movies.” I watched them both during periods when I was pretty depressed and I felt Seen, if you know what I mean.
3.) An actor/actress you’ve seen in more than 8 movies? Name the movies.
Omg did you ask this question to expose my painfully embarrassing Tom Hardy fixation? Hate that I’m like this, lmao. I’ve seen: Venom, Mad Max, Legend, Dark Knight, The Revenant, Inception, Dunkirk, Locke, Rocknrolla, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, and Peaky Blinders (not a movie but still). Embarrassing.
6.) A film you wish you hadn’t watched?
I remember watching Hard Candy as a 13 year old and being really freaked out.
10.) What’s your favorite movie director?
I don’t pay attention to this lol. I’m really more of a casual movie lover than a film buff. Peter Jackson I guess? Though the Hobbit movies kinda sucked so maybe not.
13.) Your favorite comedy film?
What We Do in the Shadows!
15.) A film everyone loves but you hate?
I couldn’t get through The Matrix (even though I love sci-fi? Idk maybe I’ll try it again some day). Also I'm rather bored by the Marvel movies but I think that’s normal.
16.) A film you love but everyone else hates?
Lol I watch a lot of objectively Bad movies. But I also have no idea what “everyone else” likes. I love Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (and I think most people who watched it don’t like it). I also like Swiss Army Man, admittedly. What can I say? It’s a stone cold weirdo of a movie and it’s tender.
17.) Which cinematic universe would you like to live in?
Harry Potter probably

I Saw Dunkirk Today (Spoilers, I guess)
Tumblr media
This is all the stuff I had to get out after seeing Dunkirk a few hours ago. It’s basically a Christopher Nolan appreciation post hahah
Also, all gifs used in this post aren’t mine. Credits to the owners :)
I saw Dunkirk today. And let me just come straight to my conclusion: it was the best movie I have seen all year, frankly, even the last few years. Christopher Nolan, you have delivered once again. I thank you, great sir.
This movie had me hooked from the very first second and it did not let me go until the end credits rolled over the screen. The screenplay, the images, the colours, the music… nothing disappointed.
Let’s start off with the screenplay. Nolan casted actors with who had worked before such as Tom Hardy who was amazing in this movie. It’s like Nolan said “I don’t know any other actor who can act with his eyes like Tom Hardy.” Cillian Murphy was also brilliant as always, I love his work and to me personally he’s an actor I really admire and appreciate. (In case you wanna do some research he’s also in “In The Heart Of The Sea”, “Red Eye”, “Batman Begins”, “Peaky Blinders”. I recently saw Red Eye and I absolutely loved it! But seriously, if you have not seen Peaky Blinders, go watch it. That is all.
Tumblr media
But Chris also casted young and unexperienced actors, which can be quite a risk especially for a movie like this, but boy can I tell you it worked out great! I was absolutely blown away by Fionn Whitehead’s performance.
Tumblr media
And let’s not forget our boy Harry of course. This guy really surprised me, in a good way. Not only is he an amazing singer, but a great actor as well! Not for a second did I think ‘Oh this is the One Direction dude’ whilst watching this movie. Although he never really was that ‘One Direction dude’ to me. I’m seeing him perform in March next year and I’m really excited. He’s a great artist and deserves all the credit he gets. Your first acting gig must be quite stressful, not to mention if it’s a Christopher Nolan movie…but he truly did an amazing job and I’m proud of how far he’s come.
Tumblr media
Hans Zimmer provided the music (I love Hans Zimmer okay) and the music is what kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. You can also hear a clock ticking in the background during the whole movie so the whole thing is basically one big roller coaster ride of excitement and tension. Nolan loves to play with time in his movies (just check out Interstellar you’ll know what I mean) and the ticking clock plays into that. He also worked with different timelines in this movie. The narrative follows three inter-connected perspectives covering different but overlapping periods: on land covering one week, on the sea covering one day, and in the air covering one hour. I know it may seem confusing but you’ll get it once you’ve seen the movie. It’s brilliant, trust me. The whole rescue mission in Dunkirk was a race against time, hence also the ticking clock.
Tumblr media
What I also really liked is that there wasn’t a backstory or a love story. I think if one character had gotten a backstory all of them should’ve gotten one, because let’s face it, every soldier that fought during the war left something or someone behind. And that would make for a blimming long movie. It wasn’t necessary. Neither was a love story. This was war. These soldiers were trapped and surrounded by the Germans and just wanted to go home, that’s what happened and that’s exactly what the movie was about.
When it was over my sister and I couldn’t stop talking about how great it was. Like I said, the best movie I’ve seen in a long while. (Though I wish I could’ve seen it in IMAX but then I’d have to go to Brussels and I’m not up for that woops) When it ended, the crowd in the cinema actually applauded, which I had never encountered before in the cinema. I don’t just watch a movie because a good looking actor is in it (although it is a great bonus I’ll admit), I like to really think about how the made it, who made it and who is in it. I like to know the geeky stuff like what camera they used, how much CGI was used…that kind of stuff. I’m kind of a movie buff aren’t I? Ah well. I don’t mind.
Seriously though, this is an amazing movie that shows the story of survival and bravery. Christopher Nolan really succeeded and I think this might be one if his best movies yet. I really recommend you watch it! Christopher Nolan really is a one of a kind director.

Game Of Thrones and the world of streaming!
Im abit of a movie buff!! Ok more than abit...I love them!! Ever since I can remember I had stacks upon stacks of VHS tapes, which were then replaced by the mountains of DVD's and now I am a subscriber to every streaming service.. Netflix, Amazon, NOW TV, HaYu, Disney Life... the list goes on. Whilst an expensive and admittadley uneccesary expense each month, I feel in the long run I save money, because despite the decrease in popularity of DVD's the price's havent gone down so much! So by that reasoning £20 odd a month on streaming is far cheaper!!
I came to the whole binge watch boxset party abit late and by abit I mean maybe 5 years!! Whilst everyone else were gripped to Breaking Bad or Game of Thrones I was watching the same old film over and over on Netflix!! I only started the boxset craze last year and embaressingly in that short time have caught up with all the major ones!!!!
Now by far to me only 3 stand out of the crowd... Orange is the New Black, Peaky Blinders and Game of Thrones.
I have watched all 3 at least twice back to back! Over Christmas NOW TV put the entire boxset of Game of Thrones on so starting on 22nd December the streaming began and by the 28th December we were in mourning, somberley flicking through the channels trying to find something to watch that could capture our minds like that show does but nothing does!!
Its hard to comprehend really how a fantasy show about a inscentious queen,a cripple boy who is a 3 eyed raven, whose brother coincidently died and was bought back to life by a women who sees the future by looking into fire, while across a "narrow sea" theres a women with 3 dragons and a dwarf  trying to take over the world can be so good. But it is.
Iv been in a Game of Thrones warp for about 3 weeks now and cant get enough of it! Iv got 21 days until Now Tv stop streaming it so I will have to  catch a few more episodes before that time! I dont own the boxset as to buy it costs near £80!! Even I know thats ridicioulous for some DVD's of a show iv seen alot of!! I will buy it though.... eventually!
Box sets and binge watching are all the craze these days! The BBC for example put on their  Iplayer service a series of boxsets for the Christmas season, whilst seemingly neglageting to put anything good on actual TV for that period!! The only shows I watched over xmas that werent a box set were Eastenders nad Dragons Den!!! Shocking really!!
Its been highlighted as big news this week that Friends has finally landed on Netflix UK and that all 248 episodes are available to stream! Yes I know its on daily on Comedy Central and since it ended over 12 years ago it never really left our screens but its a classic and everybody knows that show!! Generations to come will know Friends! We all have an episode we love the most, we all tried the trends like the "Rachel Haircut" or trying one of Phoebes outfits and above all else nobody can say they dont know all the words to the themetune (or to Smelly Cat). To me  being able to stream Friends is a big deal, im a 90's girl who collected the seasons on Video so im a lifelong fan!! Like most things these days Twitter went mad with this news with some fans outraged thats it on again and others grateful so I felt it only right to mention it on my blog!!
So to summarise Boxsets and binge watching are now a thing and I doubt they will go away anytime soon!! The problem is out of the millions of shows only a handful will stand the test of time, and when you or I are old and grey very few will be remembered and will stay relevant, and I'd put good money on Friends being one of them and Game Of Thrones being another. Both shows changed the way we watched TV and changed our expectations of a TV show. No comedy has ever been as good as Friends and no fantasy programme will ever be as good as Game of Thrones and in 15 years time the streaming service of the time will be snapping up the GOT boxset and that too will make big news.....
Time to watch an episode of Friends I think......
The Typist behind the screen xxx
