I pushed hard on this workout because Deadlifts are love. My Current Program
I love trying to lift heavy weights, but I also want to develop a showcase-able physique. Although I strongly believe that there is a massive overlap between these two some times one can impede the other. Losing fat for example, means that you’re expending more calories than you are taking in. Restricting calories is going to restrict strength gains (all kinds of gaaaaiiinnnzzzzz), you also don’t exactly hear about people “carbing up” for a big deadlift when their goal is to shift some flubber.
With this in mind, I have tried to incorporate bodybuilding and powerlifting into a program that suits all my wants and needs. I have tried MI40, Y3T and shortcut to size type programs (week 1 light, week 2 heavier etc…) and although I’ve enjoyed them I don’t feel like it put enough emphasis on powerlifting style training. So who did I turn to? Why Mike O’Hearn of course (lol). His power bodybuilding style is surely exactly what I’ve been looking for. Starting the workout with the big heavy compound moves with a lot of weight and low reps then following it with higher rep exercises with shorter resting intervals. Did this sort of thing for quite a while now actually, really enjoyed it, had goals every time I went into the gym in terms of weight and reps but also got a good pump out of it.
However, recently I’ve decided to try something a little different. Whenever I watch training videos on YouTube or whatever, I pretty much exclusively watch powerlifters because, frankly, bodybuilders are boring by nature. So I decided to have a 9/10 day split type deal. 3 days would be push pull legs in a pl’er style (basically bench, deadlift and squat days) followed by a normal 5 day bb’ing style split (chest&triceps, back&biceps etc). Only just really started it now but I think I really like it. Every body part gets trained twice over 10 days or so, in two different ways. Feel like I can really concentrate on what I’m doing with this split, rather than sacrificing one thing for the other I can focus fully on one. The PL side I can think about moving weight for so many reps and the BB side I can think about tempo and contractions.
Alongside this I am trying to cardio every day (minimum of 5 days a week). The type of cardio I'm doing will mostly be cross fit (at an actual cross fit gym), circuits wight he strongman equipment at my normal gym (kegs, tyres, sledgehammers etc) and just boring old steady state for 40 minutes on a cross trainer or a treadmill.
So there it is 0 followers haha, my training split that not even my training partner will listen to me talk about. I’ll no doubt post swelfies and strength progress shite at some point!
