Making my kitchen live-with-able with one small yet aggravatingly expensive purchase at a time 🚬😑
Begging the universe 🙏 that my fridge continues trucking on past service life until the reno 😭
#thankfully the countertop dishwasher was free bc i had an amazon gift card left from work#but!! i have my kitchen work bench finally! which still means not nearly as much storage as i'd like (no cabinets) but helps with space use#parents are giving me a free sink but it's gonna need a plumbing retro fit to be installed#which is more money i don't want to frickin spend on this kitchen but it's a too-small divided sink that is beyond useless#i feel like i could probably get some money for the old sink tho since it's 70s enameled cast iron 🤷

hi, i hope you're having a good day, night, whatever it is idk where you live. so i'm fourteen and i kinda really really want a vibrator (ig i'm a little young) and i've found a few affordable ones on amazon with good reviews but i'm a little anxious about it. like, my parents probably wouldn't find out (i'd buy with like a gift card btw not just my card where they can see my purchases) but i just wonder if it'd even be worth it for what might happen if they did find it. i don't see them being too upset but it still makes me anxious. i'm also worried about cleaning it properly because i don't wanna get an infection or anything. tldr would it be a bad idea for a 14 year old to get a vibrator or what
I think maybe nobody on earth needs and deserves a vibrator more than 14 year olds and in a just world the first one would be provided for free with federal funding.
if you're worried about cleaning just send me the names of the toys you're interested in (either on anon or via my DMs is fine, just let me know you're the 14 year old trying to practice vibrator safety!) before you buy them and we can talk about the best way to keep different materials clean and safe to use :)

In Canada, I was raised from birth to be a warrior. My ancestors clashed in battle after battle, drawing blood to retrieve the best deals on home electronics and occasionally near-expiry panettone. Like my grandfather said on the first day he put a charge card in my hand, I was born to win at Boxing Day.
Perhaps you live in a country that does not have Boxing Day, or maybe you call it something else. If this is the case, I would like you to imagine going to the stores and finding a good discount. Traditionally, before the Americans came with their blackened Fridays and good-deal Aprils, going into combat on this day is how we would be able to afford a six-CD changer.
It was always the same sequence. Get up at the crack of dawn with the surviving family members. Drive to the asshole end of the city, after determining which of the stores are likely to have the least attendance and competition for the deal you want. Wait in line in the December morn for more than an hour, eyeing anyone who tries to cut in line. The doors open. There is blood. So much blood. And then, maybe if you were pure of heart and fleet of foot, a deal.
Things have changed now. The internet came from the heavens. The clouds above us sing of algorithmically determined deals that are determined computationally to be the exact discount that will trigger us to buy. 19% off? We scoff. 18.35% off with a free cookie? Some part of our protosimian neurological architecture jams its foot on the gas pedal and won't let go until we've destroyed one entire Bank of Montreal Platinum Reserve® Optimax® MasterCard® in exchange for something we don't need that might arrive at our home late next week by a hungover Purolator employee. There is no honour in this.
Which is why we're going to try out a new thing this year. The mall near us has been empty for decades, except for a short period of time where the CBC filmed a docudrama set in the 1990s there. What we're gonna do is set a bunch of Amazon gift cards down on the floor and let some folks my age kick the absolute shit out of each other in exchange for a chance to buy them for greater than the listed face value. It's gonna be just like the old days. I hope to see you there.

So, the new lens is great. It takes beautiful pictures. And I am still brought to tears when I think about what an amazing gift this is. From a complete stranger, no less.
But there was some unexpected lens drama that kind of tarnished the excitement of this wonderful gift.
When I opened the lens initially, I noticed it was not in a retail box. It was still wrapped in plastic and that made it seem like it was new, but then I noticed there was no warranty card. Two red flags. Things that would be easily missed by a lot of people.
I was worried it was "gray market" which is a lens meant for another country. These can be imported cheaper but they will not have any warranty and if you try to get them repaired outside the intended country, manufacturers will often refuse to work on them.
I hooked up the lens to my computer so I could update the firmware. I also copied the serial number and sent it to Sigma to see if they had any info about the lens and if it was under warranty.
It was not gray market... but it was used.
Sigma's records show it being sold in 2018. Used lenses are fine. And they can be repaired in-country. But my gift giver did not pay for a used lens. Also, I wanted to get the lens focus calibrated. Sigma will calibrate the lens to my camera for free under warranty. Out of warranty, it would cost $100.
Maybe it was a mistake. They sent a used lens by accident perhaps. But then I found this review of the seller.
A pattern of behavior.
So this 3rd party Amazon seller basically committed fraud.
And this really upset me.
Amazon wouldn't let me message them directly due to it being a gift order. So I spent days talking to Amazon customer service and trying to figure out what to do. They asked if I wanted to file a complaint, but I told them no. I wanted to keep that option as leverage.
After some google-fu, I found the store's customer service email and wrote them a sternly worded message. I told them I wanted them to exchange the used lens for a new copy. I wanted them to promise never to sell anything used as new again. And if they did not comply, I would file a complaint and leave a 1 star review warning people not to do business with them.
That finally got their attention and I was emailed back promptly. They asked for pictures proving my claims. I sent them photos of the generic packaging and also this screen capture of my email from Sigma.
The good news... they agreed to exchange the lens.
But they did not acknowledge any wrongdoing and did not say they would no longer sell used lenses as new.
In any case, the matter should be resolved as long as they keep their word. But this all really bummed me out. I just wanted this one bit of joy to tide me over until I started feeling better. And I will have that joy soon. But all of the effort required to reclaim that joy is frustrating.

Reading Class Incentives
Hi all! I appreciate all the help you have given me so far this year but this school year has been difficult. Not only financially - but external motivation for students is high this year. I tend to get the more difficult students (because I can handle them) who need external motivators to behave or participate.
I have about 40 students that I'm working with on this project. I'm giving up my duty-free lunch and recess twice a week to let them come into my room and read. Reading is such an important skill for these kids and I'm trying to help any way I can. And I'm sure that most of you as fanfiction readers/writers understand the doors that open when you are able to read.
So, I have a few asks (if you're able - there is no pressure here. Especially since I know a lot of you have helped me out significantly with Misha kitty. But I figured I'd ask)
Things on the wishlist w/ explanation:
Keychains - I have low-level readers who struggle with fluency. I'm trying to get them to practice reading out loud. Each week they have a reading they need to practice out loud 4 times and then they earn a keychain. I've already seen a massive boost in fluency because of this. I'd like this to continue.
Boxed Candy - the only homework students at my school have is to read 20 minutes 4 times a week. Over this quarter, there are 36 times expected. I'm incentivizing this (and it's working so far) their reading - the prize for having read 25 times for 20 minutes is the boxed candy.
Stickers - back to reading incentives the prize for 5 times read is one big sticker, the prize for 10 times read is 1 big sticker (and a piece of candy) the prize for 20 times read is 2 big stickers and 2 pieces of candy. Again, really trying to get these kids reading.
Scholastic Gift Card: Again, I'm trying to get these kids to read - so the prize for 30 times read is that I will get them a book on Scholastic that is $10 or less. I do have teacher points on there from parent orders, but any help would be appreciated!
Individually wrapped Candy: This is used both as a reading incentive and sometimes as a classroom management tool. For example we have what are called "candy days" where everyone starts the class with 3 pieces of candy and they can gain more if they go above and beyond or they can lose the pieces if they are disruptive. (Most kids get all three pieces on these days)
Amazon Wishlist
Scholastic eGift card (message me for my school email)
Please know that I know that y'all have your own holiday shopping to do. This is just intended for those who are looking for a way to donate to a classroom during the holidays if they have a bit of extra cash to spare.
