re: tory gertrude, based on my limited understanding of uk politics idk about gertrude, but JONAH for sure is. Therefore, regardless of personal political beliefs she wants to vote opposite out of spite. BUT if her general beliefs align w/ the Tories, Jonah probably knows her well enough to guess that, and he def peeps everyone's ballot, gotta know who Jake in IT is voting for just like. for kicks. and gertrude doesn't want him to know he impacts her decisions ever. between a rock + hard place

This is a very compelling argument for Labour Gertrude. Like, Jonah has gotta vote Tory and cozy up with Tories just because he's smart enough to know which side his bread is buttered on (or what side his Institute is funded on). And Gertrude would want to spite him.

I tend to Yes And most asks I get so I will try to play along with Tory Gertrude Ask if I can find a funny enough angle but... as for my PERSONAL thoughts on Gertrude's political alignment... well.

I feel like Gertrude would be either

1) completely politically illiterate (not unaligned entirely--no one is, regardless of what they think of themselves) and not vote at all due to her being so absorbed in the world of monsters and magic and the end of the world. In this version she'd probably think politics is just an annoying distraction.

OR

2) a really radical leftist. Like not like those pansy radical leftists on twitter now, in an age where it's all about optics and respectability and perception by the media. I mean like how older leftists were up to do seriously violent direct action. Like the "would throw dynamite during a strike" leftists back in the 30s. "Would form an actual militia with guns" leftists.

If Gertrude were a Tory I... would her mind really gravitate towards making a bomb her damn self and using it with her own hands? From my hazy memory of looking at older female activists on both sides of the early to mid 1900s it's... well. It's usually not the conservative ones that use such tactics. Usually the conservative ones were more likely to use social tactics like banding women together to Support Family Values. Which also in many cases was an effective tactic but--yeah. Most of the time I've heard about women from the early-mid 1900s doing property damage, shooting people, or getting into physical fights, they were communists.
