on another note about arcane though, i do think the writers really failed to convey any sort of positive outcome for zaun in season 2.

for one, sevika doesn't speak at all in ACT 3, nor does she get to defend herself or her people in any meaningful way. they decided to throw her into being a council member, but one person from zaun and 6 other from piltover? what kind of voice is she actually going to have in that repression?

secondly, the jinx supporter girl people have grown to adore, gert, was suddenly killed while fighting alongside her oppressors who wrongfully beat and arrested her, in the uniform no less. really? who thought this was good writing.

lastly, i'd like to mention the 'im the dirt under your fingernails' comment from vi. it's so excruciating for me how they decided to end on a line that's only purpose is to clearly solidify the vast difference in their social status and put caitlyn on a pedestal. i can't pretend that showing their relationship in this light is healthy. that's the thing; their partnership came down to the fact that they aren't actually equals. that vi is always going to be lesser than cait and can't ever level with her. im sick.

the main thing this show focused on in season 1 was police brutality and the wrongful centrist, capitalistic mindset and they've completely failed to prove of piltover's wrongdoings in season 2. the war didn't lead to anything better for zaun. piltover's still superior, and the cycle of fascism is only going to continue. they made tortured people put on their oppressors' uniforms, caitlyn and vi poisoning zaun's air and murdering innocent people was never addressed, and piltover also corrupting the air and water in zaun through the hexcore never had any consequences.

as many poc creators have rightfully said, it's obvious that this show was made by white people for white people. as a white, anarcho-punk teenager standing among you all, i want you to know i understand completely, even if i'll never feel what you do.

Hey so below the cut is the beginning of my Western/Fantasy/Mystery story Coyote Draw. It’s a very rough draft, I’m not really trying to edit as I go so it should be readable by grammar/spelling alone (readable content-wise now that’s dubious). Tell me what you think, or tell me that it’s trash. Well, I guess if it’s trash tell me something constructive with it like “Do this better.” That’d be cool. Anon message me if that’s easier.

Synopsis: In this section Gertrude Bell and Elizabeth Cagney are introduced as members of the Hesselius National Detective Agency, a semi-international private detective firm specializing in supernatural cases. Gertrude and Elizabeth have been sent out to Sun Springs, NM to prove a potentially wrongly convicted man innocent of the brutal murder of a surveyor.

Notes: It’s probably pretty bad. The style is very brief and to-the-point and I don’t know if I’m going to stick with that. I’m not sure if it’s to brief or too long for the content that it covers. I think I should describe characters more. It starts with an animal dying. If that bothers you skip to the third sentence.

Anyway, here it is:

A few hours outside of Santa Fe the 8:45 to Springer hit a bison. The impact shook Elizabeth Cagney awake. Her companion on the trip, as in all matters, was still awake. It was too loud to sleep. Gertrude Bell thought it was funny how quick her Elizabeth nodded off. City folk sleep through anything.

Elizabeth grimaced as she stirred. Bags under her eyes betrayed a late night wasted in Santa Fe. She wished she could say it was spent drinking and gambling. It was spent reading. Drinking was a strictly a secondary venture. That is not to say that she had not drink a great deal. Elizabeth scrambled for her coffee. She held the canteen of muddy coffee so tight her knuckles went white. She whispered a bit, her eyes closed tight. The canteen popped and fizzled as it got hot. She offered it to Gertrude first.

Gertrude almost smiled. “I’m fine, I ‘spect you need that more than I do.”

Gertrude was right. Elizabeth threw back the canteen. Her face was red with pain, but she brightened up instantly. Gertrude appreciated the routine. Elizabeth always offered, she always refused. Elizabeth was always flushed. Always smiled.

“So how far out are we?” Elizabeth asked. She shook the residual heat out of her hands.

“About 3 hours,” Gertrude guessed. Her watch stopped working after a sand storm in Barstow. “We get off in Springer, then we ride the rest of the way.”

The Hesselius National Detective Agency gave them an advance to pay the thirty-one dollar train fare. They did not offer to pay 25 for a pack horse. They didn’t offer a ticket to ship Gertrude’s horse either. Gertrude never thought to ask for it.

Out in the desert flowers were blooming. Word was there was a big storm a few months back flooded most of the southern Rockies. As the train shot by there were explosions and gold and pink cactus flowers. The effervescent yellow of agave and ragleaf. A spatter of lilac Elizabeth said could have been columbine. Without much prompting she could rattle off every possible name and use for every one of those flowers. Every spell they were good for. It came with the territory. Gertrude mostly knew which ones you could eat, which ones could make a person sick, and which ones could kill a horse.

On a rainy January morning Elizabeth and Gertrude got a letter from the Hesselius National Detective Agency. The two of them had been Hessians in variously official capacities since the war. Usually they would take jobs off the board in their home office. Gertrude didn’t want to hear the message. She took the paper and sent the messenger away. She held it tight in her hand, crushing the paper and cracking the small wax seal on the back. Elizabeth had to read the letter for her. They had been called in. The Director wanted to see them personally.

“Aw hell,” Gertrude spat, “We walked headlong into this one Lizzie.” Her lip trembled, but her hands were dead still.

Elizabeth rested a hand on Gertrude’s shoulder. She brushed a lock of hair from her brow. “We’re not on the outs Gert,” Elizabeth spoke to Gertrude like a child. “It might be a job. May be a promotion.” Gertrude threw herself into her old rocking chair. The floor creaked loud.

“Listen Gertie,” Gertrude looked away. Elizabeth stepped in front of her and forced her head up. “Listen, if we get fired, we can just banish him. That old boggle won’t know what hit him. Hell, we’ll be on the outs but we might get a medal for the trouble.”

  Gertrude coughed up a dry laugh. “Okay, but it better be a big medal.”

  “Of course.”

“Gold.”

“I should expect nothing less.”

Elizabeth helped Gertrude dawn a white bodice and her hound’s-tooth riding jacket. Gertrude tossed Elizabeth her waxed canvas cape from the coat rack. They set out into the rain.

Cole Boggs was a squat, broad man. As a boy some poor soul must have asked him to speak up. He chose to head that advice literally, and has not spoken in less than a bellow since. For 15 years he had been the director of the American branch of the Hesselius National Detective Agency. He despised those under his employ that called themselves “Hessians,” and so almost all did.

Boggs’ office was littered with what might charitably be called mementos. On the wall behind him, between two bay windows, was a rack containing four medieval swords. Every wall was lined with mismatched glass-doored curios. Each was full of old books, tarnished jewelry, carved cubes and spheres with various arcane writings. A suit of rusted Viennese armor stood sentry over two seven foot tall safes in the opposite corner of the room. Save for three chairs and a path from the door, every horizontal surface of the office was covered with superficially valuable trash.

“Ladies?” He roared over a newspaper written in indecipherable script, “Do come in, I need just a moment to finish up here.”

Elizabeth and Gertrude stepped inside, and sat down in adjacent leather chairs. Their arms were worn through by hundreds of elbows. The leather was dry and cracking. They may have been the second oldest thing in the room.

After a moment’s pause, and without looking up, Boggs began to speak; “I presume you know why I’ve asked you to come in here.”

Gertrude’s face flushed. Elizabeth reached over and grabbed her hand.

“Now, you’re aware that our last client was less than pleased with your performance—“

“Sir allow me t’explain I—“ Gertrude tried to interject.

“Ms. Bell, please allow me to finish as I think you will be pleased by what I have to say,” Boggs filled his mammoth lungs, “but you were right. Entirely correct. Mr. Lux was indeed stealing from the town’s till, and he was indeed conspiring to use that money for nefarious purposes, though the authorities are not yet sure what those were.”

Gertrude slouched as much a whalebone corset would allow. Boggs continued; “While we were certainly not hired to have our client imprisoned, you’ve brought a spattering of good press for the agency.”

Cole Boggs finally lowered his newspaper. “We have a client in New Mexico. He has asked for you two specifically. He believes a man was wrongly accused of murder in Sun Springs. Charming little town. He’d like you to go out and prove him right.”

“Who—“ before Elizabeth could inhale Boggs barked, “Who is none of your business.”

“—Is the suspect?” Elizabeth finished. Her crystal blue eyes found Boggs’. A ripple coursed down his body, and for a brief moment something closer to his true form was visible.

“Of course. Yes. The suspect. The accused is a Mr. Balthazar Farkas. A lycanthrope. The evidence is quite damning. A surveyor by the name of Oramel Hawkins was working near Farkas’ home. He was slaughtered and dismembered early in the morning. A local magician, Grant Heston, saw the dismemberment. A local deputy found blood-soaked rags in Mr. Farkas’ cabin. Farkas has been in trouble with the law before: in ’67 he killed a Shiner who had a bounty for his hide, in broad daylight. The folks in Sun Springs remember that well. It’s a quiet town.”

“So he did it?” Elizabeth asked, sensing that Boggs was done.

“It certainly seems that way, doesn’t it.”

Elizabeth winced. “So, are we to try and get a guilty man freed from facing justice then?”

Boggs hummed, “No, I wouldn’t say that. He may not be guilty. It may be a case of mistaken identity. The murder wasn’t observed, focus on that.”

Gertrude, taking care to avoid eye contact with anyone in the room, mused, “Out in the country like that you see what you expect to see. If you’re scared of the werewolf down the way, you’ll see him when you may’ve seen a coyote or a damned cactus,” She glanced at Elizabeth. “Plenty of ways you could choose to see something when you’re looking right at another.”

Elizabeth laughed. Boggs didn’t get it.

To call Springer a town would be an overstatement verging on an outright lie. Most of the 320 acres called Springer on a map were farms. Right around the banks of the Cimarron River were a few buildings. Most of them were liable to get washed away if the river got any nearer to its banks. There were two general stores, a livery, a spattering of houses, a warehouse, and a tavern. The tavern must have been built old because no one lived here 7 years ago. Every month the trail was passable a wagon train full of copper would come in from Sun Springs. All spring and summer folks would drive their cattle and sheep out of the hills for sale.

Physical Consignment of Bitcoin in Bakkt Futures upturns 44% in March

Physical Delivery of Bitcoin (BTC) for futures on the Intercontinal Exchange (ICE)’s Bakkt platform is active enough, inspite of a hectic month for the markets. The data from Arcane Research admits that the number of traders preferring to collect physical delivery of the cryptocurrency accelerated 44% in a single month.

Physical vs. Cash settlement

The Bakkt’s Bitcoin futures contracts fleed live in September 2019. Many reporters declared that physically delivered the trading for Bitcoin futures, and it provides traders a plain exposure to the asset, that serves a leap forward for the institutional acceptance of the coin. As the physical delivery of the Bitcoin over the contract expiry has raised, the other metrics for Bakkt in March, that is, the amount of traded contracts and open interest has turned down. As per the tracking data composed by Bakkt Volume Bot, the twitter handler (@BakktBot), which is basically not associated with Bakkt but with the Dutch journalist as well as crypto author Gert Jan Laterie, the traded contracts amount on Bakkt was at $7.73 million i.e., 11161 on March 25, that is down from all-time high of 6601 on December 18, 2019. Moreover, the open interest was around $4.16 million.

Paper Trading

As the global markets analyst and the trader, Alex Kruger has also noted that the number of traders choosing for physical delivery had been severe in the first few months from the time of launch of the Bakkt contract.

In late November 2019, he added:

Bakkt has generally excited Bitcoin Bulls, and the amount is flourishing aggressively. Moreover, it is expanding at high speed from a low base. But Bakkt seems to be special for Bulls is not only its volume but the physical delivery of the Bitcoins. The number was 17 Bitcoins in November. In a recent tweet, Kruger squabbled over in fall 2019, Bakkt activity wasn’t that dissimilar from CME. It is basically paper trading, which is a reference to the cash-settled Bitcoin futures on CME, which is launched in winter in 2017. Kruger was penetrating that nobody can take physical delivery. He additionally said that it wouldn’t be a problem as it is common for futures traders for not taking any delivery in all aspects. The Bakkt is absolutely no panacea. So, the alternatives to physical delivery are selecting to overpower a contract, which perpetuates the price theory on the elemental asset. Physical Delivery of Bitcoin in Bakkt Futures Rises 44% in March

Physical delivery of Bitcoin (BTC) for futures on the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE)’s Bakkt platform is going strong, despite a tumultuous month for the markets.

Data from Arcane Research posted on March 26 reveals that, as of March 20, the number of traders opting to receive physical delivery of the cryptocurrency rose 44% on the month.

Physical vs. cash settlement 

Bakkt’s Bitcoin futures contracts — the first of their kind to be physically settled in Bitcoin — first went live in September 2019. At the time, many commentators stated that physically-delivered Bitcoin futures trading, which gives traders direct exposure to the asset, would represent a leap forward for the institutional acceptance of the coin.

Notably, while physical delivery of Bitcoin upon contract expiry has significantly increased, other metrics for Bakkt in March — the volume of traded contracts and open interest — are both significantly down. 

According to tracking data compiled by Twitter account Bakkt Volume Bot (@BakktBot) — which is not affiliated with Bakkt but rather with the Dutch journalist and crypto author Gert-Jan Lasterie — the volume of traded contracts on Bakkt on March 25 was at 1,161 ($7.73 million), down from an all-time high of 6,601 on Dec. 18, 2019. Open interest was at $4.16 million.

“Paper trading”

As global markets analyst and trader Alex Krüger has previously noted, the number of traders opting for physical delivery had been underwhelming in the first months since the Bakkt contract’s launch. In late November 2019, he said:

In a subsequent tweet, Krüger argued that in fall 2019, Bakkt activity was “not that different from the CME. It is almost entirely paper trading” — a reference to the cash-settled Bitcoin futures on CME, which first launched back in winter 2017. 

By December 2019, Krüger was observing that “almost nobody takes physical delivery,” adding: “this is not a problem. It is normal for futures traders to not take delivery, in all assets. But Bakkt is no panacea.”

The alternatives to physical delivery are choosing to roll over a contract, prolonging price speculation on the underlying asset. 

In the case of CME’s cash-settled Bitcoin futures, their trading has historically drawn suspicion, with some claiming that Bitcoin’s price is vulnerable to manipulation in advance of contract settlements.

In December 2019, Bakkt officially confirmed its own launch of a cash-settled Bitcoin futures contract via ICE Futures Singapore.

L’ambition d’En Marche crée des frictions entre Paris et Berlin – EURACTIV.fr

À la veille d’un Conseil européen censé évoquer la relance stratégique du projet européen, la rivalité politique de plus en plus directe entre En Marche et la CDU rend l’échange entre France et Allemagne délicat.

« Que Juncker remercie son chef de cabinet, cela n’a rien d’anormal ». Début mars, le sujet Selmayr n’en était pas un pour cette source haut placée du gouvernement français, qui ajoutait que les « Français n’ont rien à faire de la nomination de Martin Selmayr, c’est vraiment une obsession de la bulle bruxelloise ».

Selmayr, une étape parmi d’autres

Après l’explosion de colère des eurodéputés, et le ralliement général de tous les élus français pour critiquer sévèrement la nomination en question, le ton a changé. Lors des questions au gouvernement, le 14 mars, le ministre de l’Europe et des Affaires étrangères, Jean-Yves Le Drian, a souligné que la Commission européenne se devait d’être exemplaire et transparente dans son recrutement.

Les droites françaises et allemandes, les Verts, les socialistes, l’extrême-droite comme l’extrême-gauche, tous ont dénoncé à Strasbourg le coup de force, le coup d’État ou l’insulte faite à l’Europe dans cette nomination cavalière.

La promotion éclair de Martin Selmayr, conseiller de Jean-Claude Juncker, au poste de Secrétaire général de la Commission européenne déclenche la fureur du Parlement européen.

Alors que l’Elysée s’est embarqué dans un jeu de billard compliqué sur le futur des institutions européennes, l’arrivée brutale d’ un membre de la CDU au poste de secrétaire général de la Commission européenne n’était au départ, pour Paris, qu’une étape parmi d’autres.

Car malgré les apparences de concorde soulignées par la venue d’Angela Merkel à Paris le 16 mars, le mouvement En Marche est à couteaux tirés avec la droite allemande. Laquelle lui reproche ses ambitions européennes tous azimuts.

« Les élections italiennes, échec de l’Europe gouvernée par le PPE»

Ce que Pieyre-Alexandre Anglade, député français En Marche en charge des alliances avec les autres partis européens, ne nie pas.

« Notre analyse, c’est qu’au sein de la droite, il y a un bloc monolithique qui ne veut rien bouger et rien changer : ils finiront sans doute par se rapprocher du parti des conservateurs et réformistes (CRE), qui va devoir faire face au départ des conservateurs britanniques. Mais il y a aussi une frange importante qui souhaite changer d’Europe : les élections italiennes sont un avertissement. L’UE a abandonné l’Italie face à la crise migratoire : c’est l’échec de l’Europe gouvernée par le PPE », tacle le jeune élu.

Côté français, le revers politique au sujet des listes transnationales est resté en travers de la gorge du président français.

Le 7 février, le Parlement européen avait en effet rejeté l’idée d’une liste transnationale portant sur 46 sièges de l’assemblée européenne. Au total, 368 eurodéputés avaient voté contre le projet, et 274 pour, en raison d’un rejet massif du premier parti de la chambre, le Parti populaire européen. Seuls 26 élus du parti de droite avaient alors opté pour les listes transnationales, dont trois Français, Tokia Saïfi, Jérôme Lavrilleux et Arnaud Danjean.

Le poids politique mis par l’Allemagne contre le projet avait tout particulièrement irrité côté français. Un agacement qui a accéléré l’ouverture de la bataille pour les élections européennes, matérialisée par des contacts tous azimuts au sein du PPE. Au point que le président du Parti de droite, le Français Joseph Daul, a tenté de mettre le hola en mettant en garde directement le président français : pas touche au PPE !

L’Allemagne soutient Christine Lagarde dont Macron ne veut pas

Du côté de la chancellerie allemande, l’inquiétude est aussi réelle sur le futur de la droite, chasse gardée d’Angela Merkel depuis des années. La chancellière tenterait d’amadouer Emmanuel Macron en soutenant une présidence française à la tête de la prochaine Commission européenne, à condition qu’il s’agisse de Christine Lagarde, directrice générale du FMI.

«L’Allemagne veut choisir le prochain président français de droite de la Commission européenne », persiffle , agacée, une source bien informée des arcanes bruxelloises.

La France n’envisage pas pour l’heure l’hypothèse Lagarde, même si l’idée d’une présidence française ne déplait pas à Paris. Quitte à devoir soutenir un secrétaire général de la Commission CDU et allemand alors que celui du Parlement européen est déjà un Allemand, Klaus Welle, lui-même originaire de la CDU et ancien secrétaire général du PPE.

Klaus Welle est aussi l’ex collaborateur du président du Parlement européen, Hans-Gert Pöttering, qui l’avait placé juste avant de partir, en mars 2009, comme l’ont souligné cette semaine les syndicats du Parlement européen.

Sans compter les têtes d’affiches du Parlement européen : les groupes parlementaires actuels ont à leur tête de nombreux Allemands, à commencer par le Parti populaire européen, avec Manfred Weber, mais aussi le parti des sociaux démocrates, qui devrait mettre Udo Bullman à sa tête d’ici la fin mars, en passant par les Verts, dont la présidence est co-détenue par Ska Keller, jusqu’à la gauche radicale, dirigée par Gabi Zimmer.

Des frictions sur les questions de régulation bancaire

« Ce serait quand même logique de tenter de rétablir l’équilibre politique ! Ce n’est pas parce que l’Allemagne a la première délégation d’élus qu’ils doivent gouverner l’Europe », s’agace un eurodéputé, qui déplore une communication de moins en moins facile avec l’Allemagne sur différents sujets, notamment économiques où la compétition Paris / Francfort après le Brexit a tendu les positions.

La discrète obtention, par Paris, de l’Autorité bancaire qui déménage de Londres à Paris alimente la rancoeur entre les deux pays. Alors que Paris envisage de loger la nouvelle autorité dans les même locaux que l’Esma, l’autorité des marchés financiers, Berlin craint qu’un pôle de régulation ne se forme en France.

Ce qui nuirait à l’influence de la place de Francfort. Des préoccupations qui se traduisent par une certaine frilosité allemande dans les négociations en cours au Parlement européen sur la régulation de l’autorité bancaire après sa relocalisation. Le texte en discussion insiste sur la séparation des trois autorités de régulation (Esma, Eba et Eiopa pour l’assurance) et regrette aussi que le Parlement n’ait pas été consulté sur le sujet de la relocalisation de l’autorité en question, chasse gardée du Conseil européen.

Les discussions vives entre les deux pays sont certes courantes, mais la réforme de la zone euro promise de longue date, sur laquelle Merkel et Macron se sont de nouveau engagés mi-mars, risque de pâtir de cet état de fait.

Physical Consignment of Bitcoin in Bakkt Futures upturns 44% in March

Physical Delivery of Bitcoin (BTC) for futures on the Intercontinal Exchange (ICE)’s Bakkt platform is active enough, inspite of a hectic month for the markets. The data from Arcane Research admits that the number of traders preferring to collect physical delivery of the cryptocurrency accelerated 44% in a single month.

Physical vs. Cash settlement

The Bakkt’s Bitcoin futures contracts fleed live in September 2019.
