Last February, I travelled to Pangasinan for work. When we travel, we are given some form of extra compensation in cash for meals and other expenses, this is also known as Travel Expense Voucher (TEV). Since I work for the government where funds are scarce and every penny is accounted, we need to make an accomplishment report detailing where every peso went. Should we fail to submit the necessary requirements, we cannot reimburse the money we spent for that particular travel. That's just how things go around here.
Anyway, I submitted all of the requirements days after I arrived and the check came in today and I needed to encash it. I was relieved when it came but I'm also dreading the hassle that comes with encashing a check because the agency I'm currently working at has a partnership agreement with a bank that's different from the bank that I'm currently invested in, and in order for me to minimize the costs that comes with depositing checks from different banks, I need to encash the check then go to my bank and deposit the money.
It's incredibly hot outside, 37°C to be exact. I needed to go to UCPB, the bank that the agency is using, to encash the check. I figured since it's been a while since I made any attempt to exercise I might as well walk... free cardio, right?
The distance from my office to the bank is reasonable; a 20-minute walk and then I'll have the cash! So I set off and oh, Lord, the scorching heat of the sun was nearly blinding! I was under a flimsy umbrella just to avoid some of the harmful UV rays, but it didn't do much with the undeniable fact that the sun was at its peak!
After a couple of minutes, I entered the bank, filled out the forms, and as my queue number was called, I approached the counter and behind the desk was a pretty young lady! She was about my age and she was wearing a rose pink colored blouse and navy blue pants. She seemed nice so I thought I could maybe tell her a joke because I was hoping to at least hear her laugh. She was smiling at me with sympathetic eyes, probably because I was SWEATING profusely and I didn't have anything to wipe the moisture that's dripping all over my face and body!
I handed her the check, she then glanced at it and asked me,
"Sir, okay lang po ba kayo?"
I was touched (and a little bit concerned) because it had been a while since a stranger have shown me some form of concern and kindness.
"Okay lang po, kayo po ba?" I smiled through the face mask.
"Um... Sir, Security Bank po ito." She replied.
Imagine how mortified I was when it hit me! I ENTERED THE WRONG BANK. I was supposed to go to UCPB but instead, I went to Security Bank! It dawned on me how I missed all of the signs because I was sweaty and tired from the heat: the guards outside greeted me before I came in; and the forms I filled out had a header that clearly states the name of the bank, even the queue number had the bank's name! And on top of that, the name of the bank was built into the building in capital letters!
"Sorry po! Lutang na lutang lang!" I said, clearly embarrassed.
She was trying not to laugh at me but I can see that she's struggling, so I laughed at myself and then a couple of seconds later, she joined in! Some of the clerks looked at us but I didn't care because I was tired, and sweating, and this girl was laughing with me at how silly I was for confusing the two very, very different banks!
I didn't get to encash the check like I initially planned because UCPB had a cut-off and I didn't make it on time, but it really didn't matter. I was victorious because I made the girl laugh, albeit not because of how charming I was, but I made her laugh nonetheless.
It definitely made my trip back to the office a little lighter! :)
love always,
Gerson

On Remand Prosthesis AU Shot =========================================================
Entering the room, Sans had to grunt as he squinted in the darkness, waiting for his vision to adjust accordingly the moment the door shut behind them. He huffed as he sees his brother walk without hesitation, he didn’t have to wait, his visor immediately shifting visions to be unaffected by the lack of consistent light in the room.
It was dim and dark, with only the occasional light source that glowed both ominously and somewhat beautifully. Sans ignored most of them, having known what they could do and why they were glowing. If it weren’t for the fact that some of the experiments in Alphys’ lab were light sensitive, Sans would immediately head over to the room’s controls and raise the brightness of the lights.
Well, that and if they weren’t on a time crunch as it was.
“ALPHYS! ALPHYS WHERE ARE YOU?” His brother called out into the large space.
“I-I’m, I’m right here!” Came his reply, coming from- of course, she was there.
The reply came from a cluster of monitors and control panels, both holographic and not, in the corner of the room. There she was, hunched over, gloved claws rapidly tapping the screen in front of her. “You’re ju-just in time. I’ve finished t-the file processing.”
Sans stood by his brother, looking over the screens as he waited for Alphys to turn and face them. He had to cringe at the opened digital newspaper opened wide open on one screen, the header of ‘ADVERSIA DECLARES WAR!!!’ plastered on it with a picture of Adversia’s flag opened beside it. So they really were declaring war. Shit, he knew things were bad but...
“so, what was on the hickey?” Sans questioned, forcing himself to focus on the now. They didn’t have time to contemplate the state between Monidus and Adversia. At least, not in this context. “got a time crunch to fill in alph, look, your undyne radar is even off the fritz.” He said with a smirk, noting the console that was silently blaring while showing a certain fish monster on it.
“O-Oh stuff it Sans.” Alphys replied irritably, “Don’t worry, w-we got time. Undyne won’t be able to g-get here for a-a while.” She mumbled, no doubt inwardly warring with herself. She had a crush on the fish monster, but she couldn’t let her know what she was doing. Not with everything going on.
“EVEN SO, I’D FEEL MORE SAFER IF WE WEREN’T PRESENT. YOU, KING ASGORE, AND THE OTHERS CAN ONLY STALL FOR SO LONG. AND WITH THE... RECENT PASSAGE OF HIS CHILDREN, ASGORE CANNOT DEAL WITH THIS AS EFFICIENTLY AS HE WOULD LIKE TO THINK.” Papyrus reminded causing both Sans and Alphys to grimace at him.
Alphys sighed from behind her mask and swiped her claw up, causing the screen above her to show new information. “Alright. H-Here’s what I got unencrypted from the hickey. You’re not going to like i-it.” She warned, pointing up to the screen.
“we know alph. we rarely like the shit we find in stolen hickeys.” Sans replied, looking up at the screen but the more and more he read his eye sockets widened. “oh shit... they’re- they’re not serious are they?” He questions quietly as the monster soul picture spun in place. “that is- alphys this is impossible. whatever you’re thinking, unthink it right now.”
“I’M WITH MY BROTHER ON THIS ALPHYS, THE INFORMATION ON THIS IS INCREDIBLE YES BUT ALSO INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS!” Papyrus cried out before pausing, “... They Got Gerson?” He whispered, the digital eyelights of his disappearing as he took in the picture of the tortoise monster.
“... I-I c-can’t. I’m the Head R-Royal Scientist you t-two...” Alphys whispered so quietly they almost couldn’t hear her. However, soon, her hunched back straightened and she looked straight at them, the lens of her mask glinting and suddenly, her SOUL was out, stunning them both as they were offered the heart. “B-But I can promise you this Sans. Papyrus. I will never e-end up like my- like Alba, I w-will never, do what she did- what she planned to do. I w-won’. A-and if I ever do... If I ever s-stray... I w-willingly offer my SOUL to be JUDGED in a COURT SESSION by you two. So I promise. On my SOUL.”
Immediately, both Sans and Papyrus shuddered, eyelights flaring at the pledge- the darker sides of themselves whispering in their heads, taking the promise and forever remembering it should anything happen, categorizing Alphys’ SOUL into a future case should it ever happen.
“alphys what the fuck did you just do?!” Sans demanded after storming up to her and grabbing her shoulders- though he did his best to avoid crowding her SOUL holding her SOUL. “you just put yourself on a fucking remand! if you do something you’ll go on trial and be inducted into a fucking session!”
Alphys nodded, unable to show her smile from underneath her mask. “I-I know.” She whispered, SOUL dissipating into her chest once more. A new weight on it, a new promise.
“... YOU’RE BEING FOOLISH.” Papyrus told her, fists clenched at his sides as he stared at the reptilian scientist. “YOU ARE BALANCING ON A THIN PRECARIOUS EDGE ALPHYS, YOU CANNOT DO THIS.”
“O-Oh but I can. I j-just did. And you can’t do anything about it. Now take the hickey and l-leave. U-Undyne is on her w-way.”
=========================================================
another prosthesis au shot drabble thing!
it’s a bit longer than the last one and is probably depicting something even a bit more confusing but it’ll pay off at some point. and look! more drawing and alphys is here! kind of.
admittedly i didn’t work on the artwork completely like my other one, there’s visible black outlines and such but i decided why not? next artwork i could try to color those in or whatever. and another attempt of shading. i am... yeah i don’t know what to think over my attempt of shading but i wanted it to be more dramatic and... yeah
one day i’ll get better and i’ll depict prosthesis alphys dramatically standing in front of screens and looking very badass in the dark. one day.
at any rate, i hope you enjoy! i’m getting better with using my tablet and i’m steadily building up prosthesis au. the next chapter will come as soon as i can get to it, i’ve just started on working it right now. but yeah hopefully i’ll be able to update it this week.
happy october everyone

Canadian soccer team’s bid for World Cup qualification put on hold in Costa Rica
Canadian soccer team’s bid for World Cup qualification put on hold in Costa Rica Canada’s bid to seal World Cup qualification was put on hold Thursday after a 1-0 loss to Costa Rica that saw the Canadians play a man down for almost two-thirds of the match. It was the Canadian men’s first defeat in 18 qualifying matches (13-1-4), snapping a six-game win streak. READ MORE: Canadian men’s soccer team looks to return to World Cup, 37 years after historic win in St. John’s There was plenty of drama through the evening, with 10-man Canada charging hard in the second half, the Costa Ricans hanging on and other results coming into play. Story continues below advertisement Honduras drew 1-1 at Panama, meaning a Canadian tie would still have earned qualification. And the Canadians could booked their ticket to Qatar 2022 had Mexico beaten the U.S. but it ended up a 0-0 draw in Mexico City. Now the focus turns to Toronto’s BMO Field on Sunday when Canada hosts Panama in its penultimate qualifier. Then it’s off to Panama for the finale next Wednesday. READ MORE: Canada to play last home World Cup qualifier in Toronto Veteran midfielder Celso Borges put No. 42 Costa Rica ahead in first-half stoppage time after Canada, which had had trouble defending set pieces, was unable to clear a free kick. Goalkeeper Milan Borjan punched the ball away but it went to Costa Rica’s Gerson Torres and three passes later it was in the net as Borges rose above Stephen Eustaquio to head home a Torres cross. The 33rd-ranked Canadians were reduced to 10 men when midfielder Mark-Anthony Kaye was sent off in the 34th minute for a second yellow card. Kaye was cautioned in the 15th minute for a challenge on Ronald Matarrita, catching the FC Cincinnati star on the lower shin. Honduran referee Said Martinez went to the pitchside monitor to review the play but elected to stick with the yellow card. But the Colorado Rapids midfielder was off 19 minutes later after a confrontation with Johan Venegas, who had taken him down seconds earlier without sanction. Kaye, upset by the earlier challenge, caught Venegas with his shoulder as the two crossed paths with the Costa Rican tumbling theatrically to the ground. That earned the second yellow. Story continues below advertisement Despite trailing and down a man, the Canadians came out with great purpose to start the second half and came close several times. READ MORE: Canadian men’s soccer team has become a winning band of brothers under John Herdman In the 73rd minute, Tajon Buchanan’s header hit the Costa Rican crossbar after goalkeeper Keylor Navas stopped a low Richie Laryea shot. And Laryea’s powerful long-distance shot in the 83rd minute forced another save from Navas. Jonathan David hit the goalpost in the 88th minute with a ball that came off his body. A Eustaquio stoppage-time free kick hit the wall. Canada has been the surprise package in qualifying, rising up the FIFA rankings. And with players like captain Atiba Hutchinson, Alphonso Davies (currently recovering from illness), Cyle Larin, David, Eustaquio and Borjan, they have done it in style. Canada had outscored its opposition 50-6 while posting 11 clean sheets in qualifying play prior to Thursday. READ MORE: On eve of World Cup qualification, Canada coach still sees room for improvement Thursday marked the four-year anniversary of Herdman’s first game in charge of the men, a 1-0 win over New Zealand in Murcia, Spain, before just 75 people. His record at the men’s helm prior to Thursday was 28-6-4 with the only losses to the U.S. (twice), Mexico (twice), Haiti and Iceland. The Canadian men came into play Thursday atop the eight-team final round robin, four points ahead of No. 12 Mexico and the 13th-ranked U.S. No. 62 Panama was fourth and No. 42 Costa Rica fifth. The top three teams qualify for Qatar while the fourth-place finisher takes on an Oceania side in an intercontinental playoff to see who joins them. The Canadians were not as fluid in the first half as in previous games but began to find some rhythm as the half wore on with Laryea finding room down the left flank. Herdman switched to a 3-5-2 formation and then had to rejig again when Kaye exited. Larin came close in the 37th when a Eustaquio corner dropped at his feet in front of goal but Calvo did enough to prevent him getting a shot off. At the other end, Borjan played with fire when his attempted clearance deflected off Anthony Contreras back towards goal. Fortunately for Canada, it went wide. Navas, who plays his club football for Paris Saint-Germain, had to be sharp in the 29th minute, getting a leg to a Buchanan shot from close-range. FIFA World Cup: Republic of Ireland boss Stephen Kenny lifts the anchor and sets sail into 2022
When requested was the FIFA World Cup Qualifier at homegrown to Luxembourg in March a necessity win game, Kenny answered: A must victory. Of course, the reproach of the manager was preserved after they suffered an ignominious 1-0 overthrow to the minnows one recital in 2021.
Fans from all over the world can book Football World Cup tickets from our online platform WorldWideTicketsandHospitality.com. Football World Cup fans can book Republic of Ireland Football World Cup Tickets on our website at exclusively discounted prices.
That didn’t have any positive features in it and, as it twisted out, was a must-not-miss FIFA World Cup Qualifier. Unmoving without a win in nine goes as senior manager, the burden mounted on Kenny after Gerson Rodrigues’s tremor 85th winner in a vacant Aviva Stadium.
The team lastly broke their duck with a 4-1 welcoming win over Andorra a few months far along, which wasn't without its worrying moments as the hosts took the main early in the second half. Richard Dunne, Tony Cascarino, and Paul McGrath played the role of the chief public prosecutor.
With Stephen Kenny, Cascarino thought, I just see an inkling and the idea is so picture-perfect that there is no deliberation. I don’t like that impression. You can win in many dissimilar ways but you have to aspect at who you have and how you go around it. If you know the obstruction can’t handle headers then get the sphere in the box. To know more about FIFA World Cup Tickets click here.
The criticisms on paper and aired by Cascarino, Dunne, and McGrath were all seriously doused in nostalgia when playing course one football got outcomes for the Republic of Ireland Football World Cup team. This was invention versus pragmatism; the past grappling with the future. However, it was hard to leak the conclusion that there was some football condescension at play.
How dare Stephen Kenny confusion with Irish football’s DNA and the reliable philosophies molded by the late-night Jack Charlton, Giovanni Trapattoni, and Mick McCarthy. Kenny persistently believed there was an alternative way of winning football competitions only his Republic of Ireland Football World Cup team weren’t engaging any.
While annoying to unearth a new goalkeeper and restocking the midfield and attack with a crowd of rookie internationals, Kenny displayed enough articulacy and defiance in those countless zoom calls to influence the floating voter, exclusively in the aftermath of their home harm to Luxembourg at the end of March and the retrieving of a point at home to Azerbaijan in September, that improved days lay in advance.
In one of his most fervent appeals, days after illustration with Azerbaijan, the former U21 boss said: I think there is real advancement overall, to be truthful. That’s the way I understand it. That’s the technique my staff sees it and the football coach sees it. There’s a lot of persons who don’t see it and say: That’s not your job to progress the game here, your occupation is to win the following game.
That generosity of near-sightedness doesn’t create whatever. You might weary teams that you should beat but you’ll not ever beat the teams you struggle to beat. You’re trying to figure something over a period that is perceptible, and that can be effective.
It was the kind of talk that had the League of Republic of Ireland Football World Cup team electorate in the stalls violent for more while at a similar time drowning out the sparkling disenchantment from the more exclusive seats.
For the massive majority of Republic of Ireland Football World Cup team cliques, Stephen Kenny signifies the future, a liberating renewal of the Republic of Ireland Football World Cup team after the rough, extravagant, and very much mismanaged days of the FAI further down John Delaney.
Dunne and Cascarino’s mean-spirited remarks were falling on deaf earholes. But there was also the intense recruitment drive, post-Damien Duff and Alan Kelly, that produced undoubtedly a robust decision-making team.
Anthony Barry of Chelsea was intertwining his magic on the working outfield to such a degree that provoked central defender John Egan to say: What I’ve educated from him in a week is dreamlike. And there always appeared a bit more dynamism and behavior about Dean Kiely who swapped Alan Kelly as goalkeeping coach.
Throw in the strategic tweak of playing three at the back which became the best on sale of Norwich City defender Andrew Omobamidele, the far-fetched ascension of goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu, the coming back to form of Shane Duffy, Josh Cullen’s emotionless displays in the emotion of midfield and the goal-scoring feats of Callum Robinson and the tide started to turn for the team and the director.
Of course, extended before their two courageous home draws with Serbia and Portugal in September and November, correspondingly, the FIFA World Cup qualification had stopped and burned. The view of eclipsing either the Serbs or Portuguese in Group A was possibly never realistic given Stephen Kenny’s initial point and the lack of international knowledge among many of his new customers.
Whether it was the relaxation of coronavirus limitations and the sense of liberation followers felt when frequent to games or simply the fondness Republic of Ireland Football World Cup team people grasp for the manager, not once before have the Aviva Stadium been so animated for what were successfully dead rubbers in contradiction of Serbia and Portugal.
They hunted to see evidence of a football renaissance in the country. In Gavin Bazunu, Andrew Omobamidele, Josh Cullen, Jamie McGrath, Adam Idah, Chiedozie Ogbene, and Jayson Molumby the indication is compelling sufficient heading into this dog days Nation League.
Stephen Kenny has overwhelmed more hurdles than he could always have imagined. After a faltering start of the FIFA World Cup, by the termination of 2021, it felt like the cruiser’s anchor had been hauled up and this summer's UEFA Nations League can today be approached with a while more arrogance in the Republic of Ireland Football World Cup team step.

France - Luxembourg 0 - 0
France were held to a surprise home goalless draw by the world's 136th-ranked side Luxembourg in their World Cup qualifier in Toulouse.
Les Bleus, who beat the Netherlands 4-0 on Thursday, had 76% of possession, 34 shots and hit the woodwork twice but could not find a winner.
It is the first time they have failed to beat Luxembourg since 1914.
The point does keep them top of Group A, although their lead over second-placed Sweden is now just one point.
Didier Deschamps fielded a strong side on Sunday, which included Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba, Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe, who recently joined Paris St-Germain on loan from Monaco with a view to a £166m transfer next summer.
Griezmann smacked a 30-yard free-kick off the bar five minutes before half-time while Pogba saw a header rebound off the frame of the goal late on.
It could have been worse for Les Bleus, though, as Luxembourg substitute Gerson Rodrigues outpaced Laurent Koscielny in the 79th minute before seeing his shot strike an upright.
"Thursday's result was important but so was getting three points today, so we'll need to fight to the end," Deschamps told TF1.
"The last two games will be decisive. We are in a better situation than we were in June, although we are disappointed tonight."

Kylian Mbappe led France's rout of Iceland in Euro 2020 qualifiers on Monday, but Cristiano Ronaldo limped off with hamstring injury in Portugal's disappointing draw with Serbia. Mbappe scored one and set up two more as the reigning world champions crushed Iceland 4-0 at the Stade de France to move top of Group H in Euro 2020 qualifying.
The result gives France, 4-1 winners over Moldova in their Euro opener, six points from their first two matches and puts them ahead of Turkey, who also won 4-0 on Monday, on goal difference.
Samuel Umititi, Olivier Giroud, Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann all scored as Iceland struggled to cope with a totally dominant France side.
In Group A, England, fresh from a 5-0 demolition of the Czech Republic in which Raheem Sterling hit a hat-trick, were forced to come from behind in a 5-1 win over Montenegro. Marko Vesovic stunned England early on, but after drawing on their two previous visits to Podgorica, England showed why their current crop are among the favourites to be European champions next year.
Michael Keane's header restored parity before Ross Barkley's double either side of half-time put the visitors in command and Harry Kane and Sterling rounded off a comprehensive victory.
It was a different story in Lisbon as Fernando Santos' reigning European champions Portugal, held to a 0-0 draw at home by Ukraine in their Group B opener, notched up a second draw, 1-1 at home to Serbia.
If the result wasn't disappointing enough, captain Ronaldo hobbled off after 30 minutes with no word on whether the five-time Ballon d'Or winner would be fit for to play for his club Juventus in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final at Ajax on 10 April.
Serbia's Ajax playmaker Dusan Tadic opened the scoring from the penalty spot.
Ronaldo was denied an equaliser two minutes later as his effort was very well saved Marko Dmitrovic.
The 156-time international then left the field after he pulled up chasing a ball on the left wing.
He received quick treatment from members of the medical team before returning to action but was replaced minutes later.
In his absence, Porto's Danilo Pereira netted a 42nd-minute equaliser, hammering a shot from outside the box into the top corner past a helpless Dmitrovic.
Elsewhere, Turkey made it two wins from two in Group H, like France, with a 4-0 victory at home over Moldova.
Two first-half goals in the space of three minutes thanks to Hasan Ali Kaldırım and Cenk Tosun did the damage at Eskisehir.
Tosun bagged his second 10 minutes into the second half while Kaan Ayhan wrapped up a resounding win with Turkey's fourth.
Kosovo marked their maiden Euro qualifier with a 1-1 Group A draw against Bulgaria, but there was heartbreak for Luxembourg - 2-0 winners over Lithuania on Friday - as a Gerson Rodrigues own goal six minutes into injury time handed Group B leaders Ukraine a 2-1 win.

Roma 4-2 Liverpool (agg 6-7): Sadio Mane and Wijnaldum seal final place
They rode their luck, more than a little. They could have had their goalkeeper sent off. They could have conceded two more penalties. They could have been hanging on for dear life, come the end, or worse.
Yet Liverpool will play Real Madrid in Kiev on May 26, because they got it right. They knew what they were best at. They didn’t come to Rome in two minds about whether to dig in to defend a three-goal lead. Attack is the best form of defence, with this team.
And so Jurgen Klopp, while not being a gung-ho lunatic, sent his players out to hurt Roma as much as Roma sought to hurt them. As a result, Liverpool got the goals required to ensure Roma’s four were consolation and no more. They were never behind on the night until the 86th minute when it was far too late, and never less than two goals up on aggregate throughout this second leg, except in injury time.

Subs not used: Mignolet, Moreno, Ings, Woodburn.
Goals: Mane 9, Wijnaldum 25
Bookings: Lovren, Solanke.
Manager: Jurgen Klopp.
Referee: Damir Skomina (Slovenia).
One might say the tie was never in doubt, were it not for those breaks courtesy of Slovenian referee Damir Skomina.
He missed a handball by Trent Alexander-Arnold that could have been a penalty, and his assistant gave Edin Dzeko offside when he was probably on, and was quite definitely then taken out by Loris Karius. The locals howled their displeasure, but over two legs the better team went through.
In both legs, Roma have only dominated at the point when Liverpool sought to close the game down. When both teams were at it, Liverpool were superior. Roma knew the size of their task but could not muster one of those periods that have set Liverpool apart in Europe this season — an attacking frenzy that as good as puts a tie to bed. Liverpool raced to a 5-0 lead at Anfield and, for all their pressure, Roma could not replicate it here. They won the game, but too late to change the outcome of the tie.
Radja Nainggolan scored the goal that put Roma ahead — but in the 86th minute. He converted the penalty that made the final score 7-6 on aggregate, but with almost the last kick of the match. And while it may not reflect well on Liverpool that a team needing three goals scored four against them — Real Madrid are next up — it also speaks volumes that a team who had not conceded at home in Europe all season should be a goal down after nine minutes and 2-1 down after 25.

The Senegal international falls to his knees as he celebrates scoring Liverpool’s sixth goal in the two-legged, semi-final tie
Jurgen Klopp celebrates with a fist pump after seeing Liverpool go one ahead on the night and four ahead on aggregate
Klopp re-emerged 40 minutes after the game to celebrate with the penned-in Liverpool fans.
He will know his team must approach the final as they did this game. No compromises, no holds barred. They work ferociously in midfield, but that is not the same as shutting a game down. What they do have, though, is the ability to slug it out. To match Madrid blow for attacking blow.
If they had not gone for Roma in the first half, they would have lost the tie, not just the match — that much is clear. Having seen Real Madrid in action against Bayern Munich on Tuesday, all that can be guaranteed of the final is it will not be a 0-0 draw.
What must also be hoped is that Liverpool have not used up all their luck in this 90 minutes. Not just with the penalties Skomina missed, but the calamitous errors that aided their two goals.
Nainggolan, the Belgium midfielder, explained before the game why he preferred Roma to Premier League suitors, including Chelsea. He said he enjoyed a challenge and the extent of this thrill-seeking we now know. There are few challenges greater than needing three goals to win a tie and making it four so soon into the match.
A clearance from Dejan Lovren (No 6) smashes into James Milner’s face and deflects into the Liverpool goal to make it 1-1
Liverpool midfielder Milner looks dejected after he scores the most unfortunate of own goals to give Roma the equaliser
Wijnaldum (No 5) is left with a simple header after a failed clearance from a corner sees the ball fall to him in the six-yard box
Wijnaldum points to a figure on the Liverpool bench as he runs to celebrate his first away goal for the club at a crucial time
Edin Dzeko shoots past Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius to draw the game level on the night and move Roma to within three
Dzeko directs his Roma team-mate to retrieve the ball as they continue their attempts to get back on terms with Liverpool
Trent Alexander-Arnold appears to prevent Stephan El Shaarawy from scoring a goal with his hand but no one appealed
Nainggolan’s pass that turned Roma’s attack into forlorn defence for Liverpool’s ninth-minute opener was suicidal. He gave the ball directly to Roberto Firmino. The Brazilian didn’t waste his opportunity. He tore into Roma’s hastily back-pedalling four and fed Sadio Mane, overlapping on the left. He drew goalkeeper Alisson and finished smartly.
It was the perfect start for Liverpool. Their three strikers now have 29 goals, the highest tally of any trio in this competition, beating the 28 scored by Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema in 2013-14.
That Roma pulled one back so quickly was more by luck than judgment. James Milner is having a great Champions League, but an unlucky semi-final. He was harshly ruled to have handled for the penalty at Anfield, and here he scored an own goal in which his role was that of a human rebound rubber on a penalty box pinball machine.
The impressive Stephan El Shaarawy won a header against Alexander-Arnold on the right and Dejan Lovren went for distance with his clearance. Unfortunately, the trajectory was interrupted by Milner’s head, the ball cannoning off him and back past Karius.
The noise inside the Stadio Olimpico whenever Roma got near goal gave the impression Liverpool were under siege. It wasn’t quite like that. Early on, Liverpool gave as good as they got, even if Mohamed Salah was not at his Messi-like best. They do have players who frighten teams into making mistakes, though, and another error restored their lead after 25 minutes.
Roma’s Belgian midfielder Radja Nainggolan puts them ahead on the night with a long-range effort with just five minutes left
The midfielder is congratulated by his team-mate Cengiz Under as they look to mount an unlikely comeback late in the game
Nainggolan smashes home a penalty to put Roma within just one goal of forcing extra time but it turned out to be the final kick
Roma’s Cengiz Under reacts with dejection after missing an excellent chance to score as Liverpool’s Karius clutches the ball
Dzeko puts his head in his hands after missing a chance to put Roma into the lead on the night and within two on aggregate
Initially, Alisson made an excellent save from Mane at the near post, but what followed was chaos. Roma didn’t get the corner away and Edin Dzeko, under pressure, ended up heading an attempted clearance back towards his own goal. Georginio Wijnaldum, the happy recipient of a Champions League final place that would otherwise have belonged to the luckless Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, was first to react and headed the loose ball past Alisson. It should have been all over, Roma now needing four just to take the game to extra time, but the Italians are nothing if not optimistically relentless. They didn’t give up. And Liverpool got two hefty slices of luck.
Soon after the break Dzeko broke away and was up-ended crudely in the penalty area by Karius. It would have been a penalty, maybe even a red card for the keeper, but a linesman’s flag was raised. Erroneously, replays showed. Dzeko looked a fraction on. Roma could have been a goal and a man to the good. It was a crucial point in the match.
So, too, the decision to overlook Alexander-Arnold’s handball, charging down a shot from Patrik Schick. His arm was raised above his body and the ball clearly struck a hand, preventing it from reaching goal. Seen them given? Yes, and plenty of times, too.
Meaning the comeback would have had considerably more consequence with two goals added to it. As it was, Dzeko’s equaliser, a Nainggolan shot that Karius appeared to think was going wide and a rather harsh penalty award against Ragnar Klavan gave the illusion Liverpool were clinging on. In reality, everything happened with the final grains of sand slipping away.

Larin came close in the 37th when a Eustaquio corner dropped at his feet in front of goal but Calvo did enough to prevent him getting a shot off. Luxembourg 0-3 Republic of Ireland Stephen Kenny's side comfort to win in final FIFA World Cup Qualifier
The Republic of Ireland cruised to a 3-0 victory against Luxembourg in their final FIFA World Cup Qualifier, giving Stephen Kenny a major boost in his bid for a contract extension. Shane Duffy, Chiedozie Ogbene, and Callum Robinson scored in the final 22 minutes to give Ireland their second win in as many games, and third place in Group A ahead of Serbia and Portugal.

Leader Gerry McAnaney and chief management officer Jonathan Hill were between a groups from the Football Association of Ireland at the Stade de Luxembourg as they ready to meet to discuss Kenny's future after a movement that started badly but concluded with more ability.
Luxembourg was a big part of that surprising start when they beat Ireland 1-0 at the Aviva Ground in March, but despite having a goal correctly chalked off with the score at 0-0, they rarely exposed a repetition in front of a 9,268-strong crowd at their new stadium.
In front of FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who was booed by the crowd, and Luxembourg's Grand Duke Henri, Luxembourg goalkeeper Ralph Schon was the first to react, headfirst to his left to award away Robinson's reducing ninth-minute strike after the unsettled Ogbene had been played into space down the right and delivered an attractive cross. The pace of Ogbene and Robinson, as well as the extent provided by James McLean, were producing major complications for Luxembourg, but Gavin Bazunu had to react swiftly to acrobatically turn away Olivier Thill's drive from the bench, which had clipped Josh Cullen en route to goal. With his deception and astute movement, Gerson Rodrigues, who had scored five of his team's eight goals prior to the game, was in charge of the Republic's backline, while Thill was full in midfield but with tiny or no end produce.
With Ireland looking more likely to take the lead, Schon wanted powerful hands to deflect Ogbene's flying shot five minutes before the break and then claw away John Egan's header. Idah glanced a Jeff Hendrick cross over with Robinson possibly better situated behind him as Ireland continued their resolve, and the Newcastle midfielder attached a shot wide from Matt Doherty's through-ball.
With the momentum building, Doherty shot high and wide from long range, though it may have died on 54 minutes when the home side thought they had seized the lead. After excellent Laurent Jans' cross past Bazunu, Danel Sinani was well into his party, but Hungarian umpire Tamas Bognar wrecked his evening by yelling for a foul on Duffy by extra Maurice Deville during the build-up.
Selimovic got his head to Josh Cullen's free-kick after being called for a foul on extra Jason Knight, but could only help it on to Duffy at the far post, who motored it into the net from point-blank range. It initiated seven minutes progressive when Hendrick nominated out Knight's run into the box and bravely back-heeled the ball square for Ogbene to lift the ball over Schon, and ended two minutes later when Knight turned McLean's cross back across goal for Robinson to touch into an empty net.
