The Pairings that “Could’ve Been” but didn’t:

In which I mention the pairings that I would’ve liked to see happen that only got as far as being teased.

Every example of Ash Ketchum-x-Regional Female Companion (Pokémon): The only one that came close was Amourshipping (Ash-x-Serena), and even then the “Wil They or Won’t They” moment was in the last minute of the season where the two parted ways for who knows how long.

Lee Ping-x-Jenny Jergens (Detentionaire): Yeah, yeah, I’ve mentioned this to the point that I probably irritated the fandom. At least in my eyes, I thought this might’ve been a nice couple, and I think the real Mrs. Ping might have supported them if her reactions to certain scenes in the series finale had any weight.

Zuko-x-Katara (with special mention to Aang-x-Toph) (Avatar: The Last Airbender): Oh, boy. This ship took root in my head near the end of “The Chase” and made itself evident during a certain heart-to-heart scene in “The Crossroads of Destiny”. For brevity’s sake, I’ll skip the discourse on whether or not it was the original route and Bryke’s hate-boners for it.

Randy Cunningham-x-Theresa Fowler/Heidi Weinerman (RC:9GN): The reason behind neither of these happening despite teases is the series’s cancellation.

Timmy Turner-x-Trixie Tang (The Fairly Oddparents): Despite the scant moments of humanity from the latter to the former and a small number of fan fiction that got me interested, a part of me clung to some hope for a chance of the two being together. Unfortunately, the last moment they had was in the “Wishology” specials (I prefered the version of the scripts on Fred Siebert’s Scribd page), and Trixie has been all but retired as a character.

Geo Stelar(Mega Man)-x-Sonia Strumm(Harp Note)/Luna Platz (Mega Man Star Force): Who knows what would’ve happened after Geo greeted his father figures upon their return home.

Clarence “Kick” Buttowski-x-Kendall Perkins (Kick Buttowsski: Suburban Daredevil): They had a ton of ship teases, yet they never took the next step. Hell, the people behind the show kept pushing it even after they put Kendall in a relationship with Ronaldo, one of Kick’s recurring enemies/frenemies.

Judai Yuki (Jaden Yuki)-x-Asuka Tenjoin (Alexis Rhodes) (Yu-Gi-Oh GX): What can I say? I'm just a fan. That said, I haven't yet finished watching the second season, but I've read the later synopses and things seem to give them an ambiguous option.

Finn-x-Rey (Star Wars Sequel Trilogy): We had promise in The Force Awakens; got shafted in The Last Jedi, and got salt poured into the gaping wound in The Rise of Skywalker. How else should I feel about this?
