deciding to revive this blog from the dead to scratch the hyperfixation itch in my brain. Reading back through my diary tag is quite interesting - my mental health is in a wildly different place to where it was 4 years ago. I’m no longer taking anti-depressants, I’ve been with my partner for over 5 years, I’ve been teaching for 3 years and have got a job secured in a veeeery good school for September. I don’t smoke or drink anymore. I haven’t SH’d in over a year. I’m generally so much more stable now - and there was such a solid period of time where I was convinced that I would never feel happy again. I’m no where near perfect, and my anxiety and relationship with food can falter, but it’s not everyday. Fuck - I’ve actually grown.

posting here because this just doesn’t feel right to talk about in the horseimagebarn voice but this is extremely important to talk about.

my partner and i have returned to our hometown to stay with her family and my own has gotten a hotel here too (they moved to the town we currently live in after we did) so we are all safe and out of the thick of it

however there are tens of thousands of people who are not both in my own town and in the many surrounding it. appalachia will take an extremely long time to recover from this and there are more storms on the way. all i see on social media right now is people asking for shelter because their homes have been destroyed, or people asking for help searching for family members who are missing. hundreds of trees have fallen. hundreds of homes have flooded. roads are literally falling apart. preexisting sinkholes due to shitty pipes are opening up and consuming land. dams are on the verge of bursting and the only way to stop it is to release water so quickly it floods whole towns. all but one of our cell towers are down, so only people with at&t have service and the rest can’t contact anyone. over half the town still doesn’t have power. a major water supply issue occurred and the entire town is on a water boil order with no electricity to boil with. people are trapped in their homes and workplaces or out on the street because they have nowhere to go. law enforcement is blocking off roads but trapping people in the process. people have to be rescued by helicopter. our animal shelter has no water or power and boarding facilities have been flooded. entire villages like chimney rock nc are gone, and entire cities like asheville are cut off from the rest of the state and are completely inaccessible. ALL OF THE ROADS IN WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA ARE CLOSED. 400+ roads are closed because they are unsafe . that is INSANE!!!

when people say that climate change isn’t real, they don’t know what they’re talking about. climate change and its father capitalism are only going to continue to worsen lives in every way possible. i live in the mountains and our infrastructure is completely unprepared to handle hurricanes and it’s only going to get worse. it’s such a strange and eye-opening experience to live something like this when you think that it could never happen to you because that type of weather shouldn’t reach you in your environment. climate change doesn’t care where you live. it’s real.

western north carolina and the rest of the southeast that has been hit by helene need help. more people need to be talking about this so that the government DOES SOMETHING because the government historically fucking hates appalachia and it still does!!! the major state institution near me took DAYS to respond despite being the only place in town with power and wifi connection because they had to wait for the state to approve their response—they could have allowed thousands of people to evacuate days prior to the hurricane hitting us but they didn’t do anything before or after until it was too late!!! it’s bullshit!!! PLEASE get talking about this because something has to be done. climate change is going to continue happening and our mountains and the people in them are going to suffer immensely. hundreds if not thousands are now homeless. please talk about this look at the footage online of the wreckage and look how quickly our infrastructure crumbled. we need better. the people of appalachia deserve better.

i’ll get back to posting horses soon. but for now this is a lot. my friends are homeless and my family had to get off the mountain or be trapped there without power and water for days. we’re all safe but exhausted. i hope everyone who has been affected by this is staying safe. if you are in western nc, dm me. when i come back, if you’re in my area, im happy to bring supplies. stay safe everyone

The most stone cold thing I ever did to a coworker was at the jewelry store. There was a girl at the back office who earned my eternal hatred by blithely littering her cigarette butts throughout the parking lot.

This characteristic has served as a solid red flag for a personality I will not mesh with. If someone smokes that’s their business but if they’re dropping their toxic trash casually instead of throwing them away I’m just not going to like them. I had a friend whose fiancée did this. I told her that I disliked him for that reason and it made her realize how apathetic and selfish he was in many other aspects and she ended up leaving him at the altar.

This smoker girl also said, “Good for her,” when she heard another coworker didn’t want to knit me a rainbow scarf. She was under the impression that another coworker wouldn’t knit me a rainbow scarf for religious reasons instead of being intimidated by the complexity which was the actual reason.

Anyway. We had a couple people of color on staff, but not a ton. One was a good friend of mine than I adored, a black lady who constantly stuffed her sports bra with crystals that were always sliding out to be left in her wake.

I walked into the back room one day to hear the girl had cornered my friend about a situation the girl’s husband had gotten into. Her husband worked at the bank and she was outraged on his behalf.

“They took him in the back to reprimand him for being racist, can you believe that?”

It was instantly clear what was going on. The girl was looking for an out from my black friend. She needed my friend to say “It’s okay, here’s a pass on his racism from your black coworker.”

My friend looked miserable and I stepped into the room loudly asking, “Well, was he being racist?”

The girls jaw dropped and she turned to look at me like I’d insulted her in the worst way. My friend ducked out of the room while the girl spluttered that of course her husband wasn’t racist!

I shrugged and said that it shouldn’t bother her then if he wasn’t but maybe he got talked to for a reason. She left in a furious huff.

My friend was in hysterics when we talked about it later.

“Was he being racist!” She kept repeating while she laughed herself silly and I just smiled and handed her a dropped crystal to go back in her bra.

David: Hello. Welcome to backstage at the Domar Warehouse. I just stepped out of rehearsals for a second because I want to say thank you so much for this award. Litvinenko was such a very special project to be part of. It meant so much to all of us who were involved in telling Sasha Litvinenko's story. It wasn't just another job. We were telling the story of an extraordinary man and his extraordinary family. It was an honour to portray him. And it means so much to have it recognized in this way. Marina Litvinenko and Anatoly, her son, were extraordinary human beings to get to know. And to be entrusted with their story is something that I will be forever proud of. So this means a great deal. So thank you to everyone who voted and thank you to I Talk Telly. I really appreciate it. Thank you so much.

on the topic of nonbinary general and georgia, consider: the 'children' (2) are genderless units until they gain more sentience and pick one, like soldier did (🏳️‍⚧️). zhanna agrees this is a much more assertive and independent way to do it. they have unintentionally invented gender neutral parenting (neither of them know those words).

I'm just going to say this. I would much rather ask questions, speak up, wonder if everything is okay, and turn out to be completely wrong about things being bad than keep my mouth shut, ignore what is happening, and turn out to be completely wrong about things being good.

Also, if you refuse to believe someone is unhappy until and unless they have a complete mental breakdown/scream/cry on camera, it might be a really good idea to look in the mirror and ask yourself why...

WHILE WE'RE ON THE TOPIC i remember reading this old book that i stole from my grandparent's house when i was a kid, it was kind of like a tomboy vs girly girl rivalry that climaxed in a talent show? I don't know. I don't remember the plot very well. But in the end the girly girl won (?) the talent show? Or something? and the tomboy narrator ENDED THE STORY by saying "well, you can never trust a girl who wears mary janes. the end." and little me was like what????? so I went to my mum and asked what mary janes were, and she said "well they're little shoes with a strap over the top" and I said "like my shoes?" and she said yes. And I thought for a second and said "Are they bad?" and she didn't get it, so i said "Apparently you can't trust girls who wear mary janes. Do people think they're bad?" and she said something along the lines of "Well i dont like them very much, they're a bit girly and old-fashioned I think" and from that day on a deep shame was solidified in me.
