Well, that was characteristically hard work for England.

An early goal and then panicky play all round - although it should be said, Serbia didn’t have a shot in the box.

The mixed performance from England reflects a mixed performance from our heroes in the Gamblefest.

The Dutch victory over Poland earned all three players a win in the 2pm kick-off.

Our first draw of the tournament between Denmark and Slovenia earned Tom and Neil another win - but not enough for Alex.

Harry Kane virtually refused to play football so didn’t produce enough shots, goals or even daring offside runs to help Tom and Neil - but Alex got some more cash from England’s victory.

So what does that mean after day three?

Alex: 81p UP

Neil: 62p UP

Tom: £1.55 UP

Each of us won two of the three bets on day three - results that saw Alex and Neil slightly extend their profits. The England game was the seventh match of the tournament so far and Tom’s first loss of Euro 2024 - meaning a slight loss overall on the day.

It’s been a surprising start for all three of us - with Neil’s England loss tonight an urgent reminder that corner bets are bad. But overall, it’s been positive.

At this stage of the last Euros, we were all in debt, Alex the best performer with a 71p loss. In 2016, Alex was £7 down after seven bets - again all three of us were below zero.

It’s not the best start to a tournament - Tom and Neil were both several pounds up by this stage of the 2018 World Cup. But it’s a steady start. Let’s see what day four and our lack of knowledge of Romania and Ukraine brings.

Armenia head coach Joaquín Caparrós has offered words of praise for the players after the stunning comeback that saw Armenia defeat Romania 3-2 at a home match on Wednesday.

“You have fought from minute 1 to the end. You have given everything for your colleagues and for your country. You deserve the victory more than anyone. We are very happy to be able to bring another victory to our fans,” Caparrós said in a Facebook post.

Armenia leads Group J of the FIFA World Qualification round after three consecutive victories against Lichtenstein, Iceland and Romania.

Armenia took the sole lead with 9 points after Germany were defeated by North Macedonia 1-2.

North Macedonia and Germany have six points each, Romania and Iceland have each scored one victory and sit 4th and 5th in the table with three points. Lichtenstain is yet to earn a point.

Armenia scored two late goals to beat Romania 3-2 and win their third straight match in European World Cup qualifying Group J.

Eduard Spertsyan put Armenia ahead in the 56th minute but Romania levelled through Alexandru Cicaldau six minutes later.

Cicaldau then made it 2-1 with a powerful header in the 72nd minute, which looked to have given the Romanians the three points before a dramatic finale to the game.

Romania’s George Puscas was sent off in the 78th for a dangerous challenge, his raised foot crashing into his opponent’s chest.

Armenia, with the home support roaring them on, looked to use their extra-man advantage to get back into the game and they did so, in the 87th minute, levelling through Varazdat Haroyan who volleyed in a Tigran Barseghyan cross.

In the 89th minute, Alexandru Cretu was ruled to have impeded Spertsyan and amid the noise and excitement Barseghyan calmly converted the winner from the spot.

Much like Kylian Mbappe’s nose, our spirits have been broken.

It started so well across the first few days. Was this the year we’d turned the corner?

No. Because as soon as the games have stopped being so mismatched on paper, we’ve gone to pieces.

Who saw Romania battering Ukraine? Not us. Not even Alex, whose £1.05 win on the game was the only return of the day. And that’s only five pence better than a voided bet - something Neil was desperately hoping for before realising George Puscas had entered the game.

Similarly, either Slovenia or Slovakia beat Belgium in a game marred by the worst handball decision of all time - three strike outs.

Then to France. In a world before his nose was shattered into a million tiny pieces, Kylian Mbappe had a glorious chance to double the French lead, clean through, unmarked. But he missed. Somehow. Astonishingly so. And with it, our chances faded.

It’s been a bad day and the scoresheet confirms just how bad.
