Dybbøl Mill by Tony Via Flickr: The Mill was built in 1744 in the Dutch style with wood instead of stone, but the now standing mill is only 73 years old. Dybbøl mill has stood as a symbol of Danishness and loyalty since it was founded in 1744. This was due to its position in an important military strategic area. Because of this, the mill was shoot to pieces in 1849 and in 1864. The mill was reconstructed twice and continued to grind the Danish grain up until 1990. Today the mill is a part of “Sønderborg Museum”, and the old machinery and grinders are still intact, accompanied by an exhibition of the mills history. Right across the mill, the history-centre "Historie-centre Dybbøl Banke" is situated. The history-centre opened in 1992, and works as a supplement to Dybbøl Mølle.
