Surprise! I am going to rant about my own redesign and art! I think this is me mentally preparing for the helluva boss episode next week and praying to god it’s actually good. I’ve also been nursing a bit of a hangover today so forgive me if my wording is a bit more jumbled than usual

Im a big fan of my Angel Dust redesign, but in the general aspect of my art, a lot of my poses are a bit flat. That can be from either posing issues on my end, trouble with facial features, or just some secret third thing, but I think so far Ive been enjoying drawing much more cartoonishly as of recent. That vox canon & headcanon drawing was super super fun to do even though it was supposed to be vivzies style, but I used to have a style with more sharp angles and pointy curves that I honestly kind of miss, I also miss playing with cartoonish proportions!!

My art style may end up changing eventually, but my main pieces will stay in my usual style and my more doodle-y ones will probably be in a more cartoony style like the ones above. While theyre definitely closer to canon and meant to be inspired as such, the difference is that I can draw diverse body types in said artstyle! I also cant lie, Angel’s chest fluff is one of my absolute favourite things to draw and it’s so easy in this style…

About my redesigns though! This is mostly about Angel, but I’m gonna slap this here from DMs with a friend: “Im so pleased with this genuinely im so happy he has his little pedipalps, theyre technically also still his fangs but now he can move them and stuff and :33 typically for male spiders the pedipalps are a reproductive organ but that isnt the case for angel or many other arachnid or insect sinners id say so I think personally most of them have developed pedipalps for primarily other reasons like fangs in Angels case or maybe something similar to cat whiskers for other people”

In my original angel dust redesigns I just couldn’t find a way to draw his fangs in a way that made me happy because I want to keeo the same energy in his face as the original. Big clunky fangs that stick out just didn’t work for him and while they made him look like a spider, he lost that sort of angel-ness that I need when drawing him so I instead looks to the pedipalp aspect of spiders to move them off of his mouth and more onto his cheeks. It’s a very small change but it improved the design in my eyes significantly and just really made me a lot happier. I wont be updating his redesign post as of right now and maybe never will, but if I do yknow why now!

I just really really like drawing this guy a bit rubbery, hes supposed to be fluffy so like he should move kinda soft in a way? I dunno how to explain it rn, its 2 AM at the time of writing this so im gonna lay the hell down now!

WAIT WAIT WAIT I FORGOT WE WERE TUMBLR MUTUALS!! HI HELLO!!!

i'll backtrack a bit!! hi this is eta (currently elwinged but i was also previously radiantsusan/phantomsjulie) and i don't think we've ever actually talked but we ARE mutuals on tumblr and i LITERALLY didn't realise until i was scrolling through my old posts (as you do) and went WAIT I'M MUTUALS WITH STORMWARNINGS (and the answer was YES) and the reason i was so surprised is because i've been bingeing so many of your fics on ao3 recently bc i got back into star wars and! they're! so! good!!!!

i have a special appreciation for 'bury me beneath the tree i climbed when i was a child', it's so gorgeously heartwarming and made me feel all the good feels because it felt so lovely and healing! (my ao3 bookmark says: oh!! oh this was so heartwarming i'm about to cry!!)

and then ALSO (sorry this is going to be a long one) your series 'how i long to grow old'??? THANKS I'M SOBBING????? like it's fix it series but also i am crying over how much these people have lost and yet they still keep getting up???? i love how you write cody and rex and their various interactions, their grief and burdens feel so so so real (also. hey. hey. *grips you gently on the shoulder*. fox. WHY. i am sobbing.) AND THAT TITLE???? YES THEY DO. THEY LONG TO GROW OLD. SCREAMING.

and then ALSO (i said this was going to be a long one) the one that i keep reading and not realising it's also by you, an author who has written many of my favourite fics ('come down from your moutnain')!!!!!! you got the commanders and their relationships with their jedi SO RIGHT!!!! like "are they all like that?" "like what?" and the answers being BEAUTIFUL CLEVER MERCILESS BURNING BLOODSTAINED UNNERVING and you've got them pinned down to a POINT you've got their characters dissected you write them so well!!! i am in awe (and also have that passage screenshotted and favourited)

and you ALSO have written one of my fave silm pieces ever (and i... also didn't realise that stormwarnings who wrote the silm piece and stormwarnings who wrote the codywan au were the same person until a couple months ago and i went. HUH. WAIT.), 'celestial bodies', which is such a gorgeous gorgeous explanation of idril and maeglin if they were a little bit kinder to each other. like--- "you knew my mother. would you tell me about her?" I AM LYING ON THE FLOOR FACEDOWN. and how you emphasise their age and how that shapes them differently!!! lomion is so young and idril has seen things that will never be seen again and it's THEM, it's how it SHAPES them, it's how they understand each other!! i am losing it.

anyway! sorry for the extremely long ask, i was just kind of going ??? the whole morning being like WHAT DO YOU MEAN I'M MUTUALS WITH ONE OF MY FAVE AUTHORS!! so!! thanks for writing some of the absolute best works i've ever read + i hope you have a wonderful day!!

i am SO happy that you (and so many others) were touched by 'bury me beneath the tree' because that fic was truly a labor of love and a little piece of my soul and it makes me so happy to hear how much it was enjoyed. also i promise there is more of 'how i long to grow old' in the works - i have probably ten other fics plotted out, ive just been so busy with college and work and life. as for my other fics, thank you! im still really proud of 'celestial bodies', and the art that my trsb partner made was so beautiful.

Oh there are many. Generally EVERYONE who draws doctor who fanart is part of the favourites, but there's some whose art I find particularly awesome, so here's a few of them:

@bandaalarga drawing doctor who fanart for quite a while, not only their incredibly style and skill absolutely bamboozles me but Ive been a great fan of their latest particular enjoyment of jamie mccrimmon & the second doctor.

@parallaks-art a doctor who artist who constantly motivates me to aspire for more. Their skillset is insane, spanning multiple mediums, and an inspirational take on backgrounds. There are multiple of my own pieces I wouldn't have made without Kris to look up to, and their pieces are a big reason I felt encouraged to draw doctor who fanart in the first place.

Most notably, they introduced me to Twissy and converted me to the thoschei nation.

I managed to buy their recent "the trouble with hope" missy fanzine, despite shipping doubling the price it was 100% worth it. The prints are an important addition to my room.

One of my favourite things about her doctor who fanart is the variety of era and characters, spanning classic to modern who, monsters, side characters, a mentionable amount of daleks, also dalek sec fanart, which Im very fond of. Characterised by incredibly dynamic poses and compositions as well as a sketchy feeling to all of their pieces.

@ohhamlet-art Already starting great with a blog name inspired by my favourite shakespeare play. Relatively new in the batch of doxtor who artist I remember at least once every day, but Alice owned the place nonetheless. Originally capturing me with their 4th doctor art, but killing me with their 12th era pieces. Incredible sketches and hugely skilled in capturing the likeness of all our favourite characters!!

@nephrosoupp I found Mya originally through her 5th doctor fanart, but stayed for his immaculate use of colours, the ability to somehow use coloured pencils this well, their style and the courage to explore different mediums of art. And maybe a little bit for the cats. Her 5th doctor pieces have inspired my own fanart of him, notably the way I draw his celery, and their fourth doctor art is so bonkers /pos. Cannot stop thinking of the 4/genesis of the dalek piece and the 4 drawing, hands on hips, wearing the question mark shirt & dark red vest he wore in season 18.

@macbethz more bonus points for a shakespeare related name. Also found them relatively recently, but their art is just genuinely SOO good. My favourite art of crazy dimensional timelords. Those are my fabourite pieces of theirs. Great colours, incredibly painting skills, one of the artists who captures 15s features and essence the best, imo. Great sgapes too!!

ickle appreciation post <3!!

just a quick moment to say, i re-started this blog 38 days ago (yes, november 5th 2020) from like 4 followers (twas a user saver fr 2 yrs lmao) and ive been overwhelmed with all the support via here and the server!

i dont usually talk about followers n stuff like that because this is really just my safe space to share art/edits of my hyperfixations, but being in a pretty dark time and re-starting my tumblr (which is pretty big to me for big up autism reasons and the fact ive been on this hellsite for longer than i remember on one acc so it was really out of my comfort zone to restart) to see people actually like what i post and make lots of genuinely really cool friends has made the past month much more bearable.

anyways as a thank you i'll be posting my favourite piece ever, one ive been saving for quite some time now (destiel christmas) soon 👀 which im kind of very excited to share bc it makes me feel warm n fuzzy 👉👈

Musical adventure to London

I’ve always loved London. Since I was younger, until now where that love grows each time I travel down. The first trip down to London was one of the best experiences along with the time I went down for a second time. Thinking back, it hasn’t been that long since I first went down. But then again, it will be 4 times I've been to london by the end of this year.

The first trip was with a friend to go and see Carrie Hope Fletcher’s first solo concert in Cadogan Hall. And the second was a trip to get a visa to work at an American summer camp over the summer. Both memorable trips. But my latest trip down to London has took the ball.

A few weeks ago I traveled down to London with my friend Amy. We planned on going down due to both our loves for musicals and London. We got our trains and hotel booked along with two musicals we were going to see. And the best thing that happened was when we got to London.

When we got into Euston station, we began another mini journey to get to Kingston. This is where our hotel for the few days was. It was beautifully sunny two of the days we were there but It did get cloudy when we went our wonder after dropping our stuff off at the hotel.

Kingston has recently been the go to place for me when I book hotels. And when I say that, it was only my second time staying in the area which both times included a Travelodge. Outside of the hotel there was this massive art piece that I thought was quite cool. A line of red phone boxes were tipped over like domino. And obviously I had to take a picture of it.

From there we travelled back into London waterloo to go be tourists for a little bit. We spent the rest of that evening walking along the river where we seen the London bridge. We were even lucky to catch it opening up to let a boat through (Not exactly sure if that is a rare sight or not but it was still lovely to see it happen).  We stayed in that area until it got dark where we seen the bridge open up for the second time letting that exact same boat through again before we started our wonder back to the station to get back to Kingston for the night.

The second day was where the excitement began. Both musicals that we booked were in this one day. Eugenius in the matinee show at the other palace. Then the Heathers evening show in the Haymarket Royal Theatre.

We got to the Other Palace in time to get drinks before the show began. They had... Slushies. Slushies? In a theatre? You can tell this was a new one to me considering I only expected normal drinks like the average soft drink or alcoholic drink. But as I could tell it was going to be an amazing day, I got a slushie and I loved it. Also, can I just mention how beautiful the building is?? Like its such a nice building (I loved the architect of the building. It was just so damn nice).

The show itself was amazing! Our seats were a few rows from the stage, bang centre of the row which let us see the full show with no difficulties at all. As you can probably tell, this was the first time I had been to the other palace. And the theatre was beautiful, there was fairy lights hanging around the theatre and the stage was such a nice size. I hadn’t been to a theatre like this one before to be quite honest. And I’m so glad I got the chance to watch the show there. The cast were amazing! I had never had much expectations since I didn’t want to look into it so I could just be surprised by my own expectations. Which I was. I honestly loved every single moment in that theatre. The set, the music, the cast. So much talent and work went into this show and it’s payed off because at the end of the show everyone joins in with the wonderful fist pumping to Go Eugenius.

Fun fact: I seen a girl stand up to start dancing along at the end of the show and this lead me to standing up too. I looked around to see nobody else standing up so I very awkwardly slid back onto my still folded up seat only for everyone to then start standing up to dance along. This was probably one of the most awkward things in my life ahaha

But at the end of that show I came out so incredibly happy to have went to see it. The cast came out to go for they're lunch and Scott was nice enough to stop and have a chat with people so we went and said hi to him before he headed off. 

We stayed in the other palace after the show so we could devour food since we hadn't ate that day. (Bad, yes but at least we managed to get food before show number 2). We got pizza, nachos and best of all... Eugenius themed cocktails! and I need to say thank you to the lovely bar staff for making these wonderful drinks. 

From the Other Palace, we went straight to the Royal Haymarket where we were to go see Heathers the musical. I had been waiting months for this day to come and honestly I was so excited for this show. Because I had went to work in America over the summer, I missed the chance to see heathers at the other palace during its run there. Nobody knew my happiness when I had seen heathers was due to come back for another more longer run in London so I said to Amy and we booked the tickets.

Another small thing that needed to be done at the theatre was a mini photoshoot outside before we went in. Yes it was a bit windy and I look a tad of a mess but looking back at this day makes me extremely happy so I'm going to share this picture...

Now, I have been to my fair share of concerts, and musicals ect. But the seats we had for Eugenius and Heathers that day had taken the cake for best seats. We got into the theatre where I collected the tickets, got some merchandise then headed to our seats. We must have been about 4-5 rows from the stage and it was one of the best views in a theatre like that in London I have ever had. The lights all went down and the show began and it was Beautiful! Pun intended. The set was amazing, I never thought it would be as good a set as it was. The band were amazing, the cast were incredible! Ive seen quite a few shows carrie has been in and oh my god, her voice. The whole cast is so talented I was blown away with how good the show was.

After the show we stood outside the front of the theatre as there was a line waiting for the cast to come out. I do enjoy stage door but at the same time I don't expect to meet any certain member of the cast as it is after all,  they're decision if they want to come out and spend time with a lot of the audience that came to see the show. If they want to go home and not meet anyone then I totally get that. They've done they're job and to be quite honest I would rather go home after work too (Even though my job at the moment is totally not relatable to theatre) Ive seen how other people can get quite annoyed but it is literally you're own fault for deciding to stand and waiting. But anyway, a few of the ensemble cast members came out which was amazing. They were so genuinely lovely and it was nice to have a little chat with them.

After we met the cast members that came out, we ended up wondering along to a bridge that gave us a really nice view of the London wheel. We had spent a few hours wondering around, grabbing some food before realising the underground did not intact run 24/7 which lead to us walking to waterloo station from Piccadilly. The time we got to the station we had indeed missed the last train... By half an hour, which left us stranded for just a little bit as we managed to get an uber back to the hotel. Thank the lord for uber, otherwise we would have been stuck in central London the whole night. We got back to the hotel room and basically crashed after such an amazing musical filled day.

The next day was when we decided to go back to see Heathers for a second time. We booked tickets and went into Piccadilly for a bit. We went to the Theatre Cafe, Such a wonderful musical filled place that I do recommend. The hot chocolate is a personal favourite there due to my love for hot chocolate. I also enjoyed my trip to the bathroom there- If you like selfies and theatre then please do go into the bathroom.

 Afterwards, we decided to go a stop to Leicester  Square for a little bit. We must have sat there for a good hour or so just watching the world pass by. Plus it was a nice way to just chill before round 2 of heathers! After almost getting hit by a ton of low flying birds, we left our view infront of the fountain and went back towards the Royal Haymarket theatre.

When we got to the theatre, the oddest thing happened that was no expected... Carrie Hope Fletcher... walked past us. She walked past with Becky and I stood like a starstruck idiot. I think I was just a bit shocked at first to be honest since I did not expect that to happen. They walked past and I didn't want to interrupt them since they looked like they were in a big conversation so I never said anything. We ended up walking back towards a burger place we had passed earlier and went in for some pre theatre food but when we sat down Carrie, Becky and the Heathers director was there too and I must say, we freaked out slightly again but no worries, we stayed somewhat chill. They got takeaway so left but I need to say my food was good! Even though I only got sweet potato fries. I was deeply craving them after seeing them on the menu earlier that day.

After some food, we headed back to the theatre but we still had some time to kill so we went next door and I got a Heathers themed cocktail. It was honestly one of the best cocktails I have ever had. 

Afterwards it was time to then head to the theatre for our seats. We got the tickets and went up a floor to see the show and we had an amazing view. We could see everything from our seats which was nice especially how we had booked tickets extremely last minute. Once again, the cast had outdone themselves. The show was brilliant! Only one thing went slightly wrong during the show but the cast made it work anyway like pro’s! Both trips to heathers, we made a few friends which was quite nice. I always enjoy talking to others at shows as everyones always so nice. After the show, we waited at the front of the theatre where some of the cast came out again then we decided to go back to the hotel to make sure a repeat of the previous night didn't happen again. Didn't really fancy getting stuck in central London for the night. But anyway we made it back and went for a lovely sleep.

The last and final day. The only part of this day I didn’t like was that it meant I had to go back home.

I got up and packed then went into Piccadilly again to get some Polaroid’s of the theatre. I really love Polaroid’s as you can probably tell. They just look so nice plus I love how it just instantly prints your picture (Whole point of the polaroid yes, but still!). Heres a little picture of a few of them. I will soon be creating a polaroid wall in my room so these will make a nice addition since I love things that just take me back to a memory. Especially happy places and days.

I took polaroids of the front of the theatre before I ended up talking to two girls who I joined in walking round to stage door. I just wanted to see what stage door was like at the theatre considering I hadn't been to the one at this theatre before I headed back to the hotel to collect my stuff for check out. But just before I left, Carrie turned up which completely made my day. I got to say hi and how I loved watching the shows the last two nights I had seen then she signed my ticket that I kept from the first night. I always get nervous or “starstruck” a bit when it comes to actors, musicians and youtubers ect, then again I am an awkward person. An introvert is probably along the right words. But anyway I asked If i could get a hug because she has genuinely inspired me for years.

 So yeah, that kind of made my day. And to top it off, It made this whole trip one of the best memories. After we met her, we went back to  the hotel and got our stuff then back into piccadilly to have one last sit down in the Theatre Cafe. I must say, I don't think ill ever not enjoy the theatre cafe. Its just such a lovely musical place to go. The staff are really nice, the cafe itself is insanely cool- including the bathroom mirror they have- and its just a great environment to be in.

Last of all we travelled to Euston for our train back. Was quite a sad thing to be leaving but I know I will defiantly be coming back down soon enough.

Miri: Which of your works is the most memorable to you? I don’t necessarily mean favourite or best work, it could be the work that taught you the most making it or that holds a special reason in its creation.

Seth: I consider my piece where Genesis complains about finding grey hairs only for Sephiroth to get offended is my most memorable. When I made it I just thought "haha yeah this is a joke, hopefully people will find it funny" and I didn't expect it to get to 319 notes as of this interview. Because it got so many notes by my standards it keeps in my head because I find it great that one little joke I made got a bit of attention.

Miri: Comments on the reblog, or in the tags. Do you have a preference?

Seth: On the reblog because it's easier to reply to comments which I love to do.

Miri: Who is your favourite character from the FFVII setting? What do you love about them?

Seth: Angeal. Definitely Angeal. I'm in love with the first class trio in general but I like Angeal the most. I like him because he's the more grounded one of the three and he's 100% built to be a member of SOLDIER. His relationship with Zack is also adorable to me and I like his role as Zack's mentor before Zack somewhat becomes that to Cloud.

Miri: Favourite media to work in?

Seth: Mostly just basic digital because if I make a mistake I can easily undo it. I have however recently taken a liking to acrylic paint after using it in an exam.

Miri: Inquiring minds have asked if you have any tips for dealing with art block/slump.

Seth: Normally, I tend to redraw scenes from comedies I like and place characters into them. Parks and Rec tends to be my go-to comedy because I can easily place the SOLDIER and turks members into the setting and then draw it out.

Miri: Is there a character/idea you haven’t gotten to yet that you really want to do?

Seth: There are two AUs I really want to do that I've kept dissuading myself from: a reincarnation AU and a Jekyll and Hyde one. I've really wanted to make this reincarnation AU where they actually look somewhat different reincarnated. The Jekyll and Hyde AU came from me reading it in class and thinking "okay but what if Angeal was Utterson, Genesis was Lanyon and Sephiroth was Jekyll"

Miri: Any remake thoughts or hopes you’d like to talk about?

Seth: I keep hoping they might add some crisis core stuff to it, like Genesis. I feel his story is incomplete and I wouldn't mind seeing it concluded as a DLC.

Miri: Throw a headcannon at us that you’d like to see more of.

Seth: Sephiroth could've been saved, I like the idea that he wasn't entirely broken during nibelheim and there was still hope for him.

Miri: Do you have a favourite/easiest character to draw? Or a character you tend to draw when you need some comforting/relaxing art time?

Seth: Sephiroth is my favourite, easiest and most relaxing to draw because his hair isn't too outrageous and he has an easy to draw face.

Miri: Anything you’d like to say to the community?

Seth: I'm not too good with words but, keep on creating! I honestly love seeing everyone's content and as a youngling to this fandom I get inspired seeing the masterpieces everyone creates and it makes me want to stay!

you know. sometimes i love something a lot so i need to scream about the things that piss me off about it. i don’t think this is a particularly negative post but it’s just like sheer frustration and if you dont get some satisfaction from articulating your frustration into tumbler dot coms longposts and destroying the capital of this website because you are not a gemini sun then like fair i guess feel free to disregard this. tonbokiris kiwame is cool go look at that.

now to the lukewarm tea ive been simmering for five years. the one thing i always think about all the time is that tkrb is a popular game despite itself. the piss poor gameplay with only the barest of bare QoL in the five years its been up, the seeming complete lack of direction and the frankly nonexistent worldbuilding is held up purely because of its attention to detail and reverence to the original culture and history of the swords combined with some very good character design and subtle but nuanced character writing that can be openly interpreted. just enough flavour to imply something larger but chickening out on actually making anything y’know. concrete. basically allowing the fans to draw their own conclusions. but even then a game like that would not survive cause there have been countless, hundreds of games with high quality and fervent attention to detail and respect for the source material that just died completely because they have such little to actually offer in terms of engagement. i think the main thing that bugs me about tkrb is that it has one of THE most creative, dedicated and strong fanbases of this genre of game who go out of their way to engage with any and all of the content and the devs seem kind of oblivious to this.

in comparison to modern gacha style games, touken ranbu releases barely any new content and frequently recycles content but somehow it’s still relatively popular with approx. 1mil active players daily but the maddening thing is that tkrb can reach much MUCH further. the fans are there, the curiosity is there, it’s just the game content is not fucking there. it does not put the effort into commissioning seasonal art, pushing new events with actual plotline/story content, creating promotional materials, tie-ins etc. but somehow its still in the top 5 comiket circles for nearly five fuckin years straight. here are your badley compiled receipts: c89(w2015), c90(s2016), c91(w2016), c92(s2017), c93(w2017), c94(s2018), c95(w2018), c96(s2019)

 it can launch itself from laughably low in the appstore ratings, hovering in the middle of the 200′s to TOP 30s in the appstore at the flick of a switch. what is this magic button that fucking quadruples revenue and skyrockets your app into the top 50 grossing apps? 3/4 of your characters getting static CGs that you cannot use at all anywhere in the game but will do a powerpoint transition and appear for 5 seconds at login. oh and like a few free mats i guess. and i kid you not it fuckin worked.

wanna know why that worked? it’s cause otherwise characters, especially fan favourites just don’t get anything at all. it’s like most characters outside of the very popular ones rarely get new art, new recollections, new anything outside of their kiwame upgrade which is more often than not years down the line and only recently, four years in, they decided to add alternate costumes but even then there’s a catch which has me feeling some kind of way.

and yes, i fully understand that tkrb is a multi-media franchise, i get that it’s got its fingers in so many pies like the stageplay, musicals, various manga anthologies, the animes, hell its even got live action but man, would it hurt to give some love in game? i’m not asking them to go full fgo route and commission the industry creme de la creme to make 6 full CE illustrations, lots of promo art and tonnes of new merch every single month. but the fact is for such a big franchise, reusing the same sprite art on nearly every piece of official merch, going so far as to add NEW costume art which is just the heads of the old default sprites edited onto new bodies? it screams cost cutting, it screams lazy, the path of minimum effort. it’s almost like the game itself and the original materials are an absolute afterthought at this point with only the most dedicated hanging on to it. i guarantee that the majority of people still playing tkrb are the committed day1 players and the actual rekijou cause it’s just painfully offputting to new fans, with other fans even going out of their way to specify the game is not integral to enjoying the series which sucks, but it’s true.

its a real damn shame to think that something you are so invested in is not particularly invested in itself. sometimes, just sometimes i wish they dev team for tkrb was more hands-on, more adventurous, more willing to listen to players, invest in the game and genuinely try and make the game the best it can be. i’m not asking for balls to the wall summer events, beautiful animated CMs from the likes of the industries best animators, i’m not asking for pages of supplemental lore compiled into books, character backstory novels or whatever i’m just asking for the lore and the characters that we love to sometimes occasionally be remembered in the actual game outside of like ... the two years between their kiwame and the vague possibility of a recollection. i want to feel like this game puts as much effort into itself as the fans do towards it.

it’s a painful truth but there’s one shining light which is that the fandom for tkrb is genuinely one of the most committed and transformative ones ive ever seen. i have never been involved with a fandom that varies so widely and puts in so much effort for these characters and this world. tkrb exists solely as a popular franchise due to the sheer legwork of the fans carrying it on their backs collaboratively. ultimately, tkrb is very very lore-light, there’s so much thats missing and the characters in-game rarely rarely interact with each other. the characters are contained solely in however many voice lines they get at implementation, their kiwame letters, and their updates kiwame lines and the only interaction they get with other swords is recollections or depending on the sword, the odd custom sparring lines.

but despite that there has been so much fan effort to explore everything in so many different varied ways, and amazingly there are certain tropes, relationships, lore etc. that have started off fanon and become canon. the fan community, especially the fanartists, doujins, writers, animators etc. being given a small indulgence by the anime is one of my favourite things about tkrbs relationship with its fanbase. that’s not to say that the fans dont give back in kind a hundred fold.

there’s so much i love about tkrb fans going out of their way to go SEE historical swords in japan, single-handedly reforging swords using crowdfunding and revitalising lots of small-town tourism having real world impact. shit makes me unbelievably happy. the stage plays and musicals are always met with warm reception and are always well attended and even though its hard to access, there are lots of western fans who have dived into a whole new MEDIUM that most of us arent really familiar with but out of their love for tkrb theyve done that. they have hosted the musical as far out as india and france, making tkrb a truly worldwide franchise and there theyve met full seats! as far out as india! then theres the fantranslators, who always have the drive the commitment and energy for the thankless work, the wiki always always is well maintained and they have new content up so fast, and there are so many people willing to help you out. even when crunchyr*ll got hanamaru s2 (i think) a week late and we were left without subs for the premier episode for a whole ass week, fantranslators who had never subbed before stepped up to translate a whole episode for FREE, encoding, subbing and timing it all despite never having done so just so others could understand the episode faster than cr*nchy themselves could. even, as well, it’s made so many history nerds out of a whole bunch of people, it’s created an appreciation for nihontou and japanese history that would otherwise probably never be in their orbit because of how inaccessible it is, especially in english. even on a personal note, i started learning japanese primarily so i could understand tkrb and the history behind it better and to read jp fanart/interact with fanartists.

 no matter what, i am forever warmed by how much i love tkrb and its fanbase and im glad that tkrb is still going strong, even despite itself sometimes and i hope that moving on tkrb tries new things, and becomes better for everyone.

hhhhhhhh dude dude like mannnnnn like hhhhhh okay imma talk about loz for a sec and like i know i brought it up before but i love like so much okay like oot was my first time playing time playing any loz game and my lord it was the shit like the storyline the characters the graphics the sound track the quests and side characters liek everything really made it feel like so much mroe and like i feel so much for it like heres link growing up and hes like what around ten or so and hes got some friends and he finally gets his fairy and then his tree dad goes and dies right after telling him lmao sorry but you kinda gotta save the kingdom k bye and like this kid this kid literally knows jack shit about anything but he goes on and does it anyways he goes and helps zelda he goes and helps the people who are in trouble along the way and plays some rad ass tunes on his tiny lil ocarina of time while doing it and like even when he gets put into the future like he sitll has the mindset of a ten year old hes still as innocent and earnest and pure hearted as when he first started and like holy fuck dont get me started on sheik like shit sheik is so damn cool and like knowing that it was zelda all that time like fuck yeah zelda can kick ass fuck yeah zelda got muscles for days fuck yeah she can punt you across the kingdom and like at the end when she thanks him and sends him back and time so he can enjoy the lost time like shit dude i know zelda meant well and all but like hes experienced so much with and for her hes done so much give the kid a break and then even then navi in the end like leaves and then eveything continues in majoras mask and again hes in his ten year old body but now wiht the experiences and knowledge and basically memories from being seventeen like hes got so much mroe than what his body and mind should handle at this point and he wanders into the forest again all in search for an old friend to look for navi and like when he gets sent to termina after trying to chase after skull kid and like havign those nightmares witht he scrubs like hes gone through so much and i only want more for him and like he doesnt have to save termina he doesnt he doesnt need to do anything he can let termina get smooshed to smitherins by the moon for all the work hes already done for hyrule but he does it anyway and he rewinds time again and again and again and again so he can fix all of these problems for all of these people he does all of this to bring some sort of proper ending for these people who have the last three days of their lives the last three days before their deaths repeat over and over and over and over and over again and he saves them each and every time he rewinds time and he goes through all this shit i mean this ten year old mother fucker is doing olympic bakc flips and twirls and shit after oot like shit boi and then like oh myy gooddddd like damn botw like fuck dude that game means a whole lot to me like its lacking a lil bit in the presence of an evil and i mena i know its ganon and all but like shit i could ignore that motherfucker for all eternity if he wasnt being such a total asshat to zelda and like i mainly beat that motherfucker up just for zelda like for once in a game ive never wanted more to save her like they went so much into detail abotu her and like dude those memories thos cutscenes? like that shit made everythign and i truly love her she works so hard and shes held up to this image of being extremely spiritiually adept because of all her ancestors ebcause of all the other zeldas but she jsut cant she jsut cant do the same thing and so she tries in other ways she tries to udnerstand and get a grasp on sheikah and ancient tech so she can at least be prepared to stand against the calamity when it does come and like the champions all worry about her like the girl nearly got herself killed in the process of trying to awaken her so called spiritual powers and like dude finding out that in the beginning zelda legit hated links ass like they put so much mroe into her like she she hated seeing that he was a prodigy that he didnt have a single trouble in the world and then finally link speaks up and he tells her he talks to her about why he keeps quiet and like the two finally bond and like the two dorks love each other so much that it really does go beyond friendship and romance like they legit would die for each other that one time that zelda was this fucking close to getting her ass handed to her on a silver platter and link was beat the fuck up like he went to save her and then the time when link was basically on his death bed and a guardian was about to pulverize him zelda stood between him and the guardian this bitch wasnt even thinking about having her spiritual powers she was legit ready to die for him if it meant he could run away and get to safety and i mean luckily she her spiritual powers did come out but she legit realized it when she was so genuinely scared but chose to stand up cause she cared for him so much and like these two kids fight so much and have gone through a lot both on their own times and also together but like i love them so much no matter what timeline theyre in

my lord i want life to point me in the right direction tbqh or at least give me a mentor for some help like please ive been guiding and doing everything myself this whole time give me a break like after reading all the stories for lang and lit like it makes me feel so lost in what im doing like after catcher in the rye and playing the role of holden caulfield and denying that i fit any part of the role and then realizing how similar i was to him and then reading death of a salesman and relating to biff and reading raisin in the sun and relating to beneatha like shit i really felt lost like ive been talking about it with my therapist lately and like yeah i think i really need some direction or reassurance or a mentor or at least something in my life thats consistent cause right now im a complete mess

Cesar Comanche : A-Game

With the intro and all that, this is a track that needs to be at the start of a mix, and as such I've been saving it for quite a long time. One of my favourites from the original days of the Justus League, this track is from Cesar's second album "Paper Gods", and is a great ode to working hard in music and not being a hanger-on or a daydreamer; as the title suggests, bring your A-game. 9th Wonder is on the beat, slapping that snare as always!

Kev Brown : The Beat Tape (Instro)

One of the instrumentals from the "Selective Hearing" LP; nothing super complex, just a good example of doing something funky with a handful of elements. The insertion of that "yeah" sample is worth the price of admission!

Kool G Rap & DJ Polo : Letters

Another one I've had in the "to play" list for ages, it's a straight mic workout for G Rap taken from his final album in collaboration with DJ Polo, "Live and Let Die". As an aside, I didn't realise that the album was shelved some time after initial release because of the controversial cover art! Luckily, it got a re-release so you should be able to find it - there are some excellent tracks on there. As with most of the rest of the album, Sir Jinx, best known for his work with Ice Cube, handles the production; a nice funky soul sample forms the basis of the track.

Wordsworth : Feel Me

Hadn't given "The Picture Album" a listen in a long time and had totally forgotten about this Ill Poetic-produced track - I was looking to include something featuring Masta Ace but this got the nod instead, as it were. "Feel me internally"? Hold that thought, we're coming back to it later in the show...

Bumpy Knuckles : Lazy

One of those tunes you can drop on a mixtape or in a club night full of real heads. DJ Premier on the beat with a meat-and-potatoes drum pattern underpinning a disjointed string sample, and Bumpy going in on the mic straight line style. Bonus points for him impression of crying MCs in the intro :) We will definitely return to the "Konexion" album again!

Big Daddy Kane, Jay-Z, ODB : Show & Prove

The full version of this tune from the 1994 "Daddy's Home" album is long! Coming off a loop of the DJ Premier beat, I actually missed off the first three verses (Scoob, Sauce Money, and Shyheim) and jumped in at Kane's appearance. A then mostly-unknown Jay-Z can be heard here with his old style, and ODB shuts it down on the final verse, overwhelming the track with sheer force of personality! Three Brooklyn kings, no question. The sharp-eared amongst you will find the last word on the tune very familiar...

[Pete Rock] All City : Priceless (Instrumental)

I played the vocal version of this many moons ago on episode 12, and Pete Rock's beat fits brilliantly here - a bridge between the explosion that ends the previous cut, and the tempo of the one that follows...

Top Rawmen : Symphony 3000

I'm amongst friends here, so I can admit it - at least partly due to cultural differences, I didn't realise for years that this turntablist crew's name is a pun! Yeroc, Nando, Nomad, Mike c, and Jay Slim brilliantly execute the concept of a turntable version of the Juice Crew classic "The Symphony" on this selection from "Return of the DJ, Volume IV". The beats are sampled/cut/reworked from that 1988 record, and several quotes from the track get sliced and diced here too.

Camp Lo : Cookers

This Ski-produced B-side (you know the deal) from the "Trouble Man" single bangs hard in a specific way that often makes it tough to fit into mixes, but I think this is a good spot for it! There's a detail worth noting on this one - check how Sonny and Geechi start each two-bar phrase of the first verse with their syllables landing dead on each hit of the kick drum. 

Diamond D ft. Kurupt and The Alkaholiks : We Are The People Of The World

Diamond just keeps on going - with a record collection and a mind like his, the beats will hopefully keep on coming for a long time yet! His 2014 album "The Diam Piece" is a producer-centred project where he brings in a star-studded roster of guests to bless his beats; on this cut, we get veteran West Coast lyricism from the 'Liks and Kurupt, keeping it positive. I do need to stop giving myself these awkward bar counts to mix with though...

J-Zone ft. Has-Lo : Caddy Coupe

I love seeing people win, so this track works on two levels; firstly, it comes from "Fish 'n' Grits", an excellent album from the latter phase of J-Zone's musical career, and secondly because of the story. I can totally get behind a real-life tale of a man treating himself to a bit of luxury after a hard working life; it's just a genuinely nice story. Philadephia's Has-Lo takes the second verse to expand the theme a little more, and Zone's production (in all senses of the word) is excellent and inventive as always.

Trifeckta : First Time (Janet Jackson Flip)

I wanted to bridge here with something having a bit of 80s style and also some soul, and finally found the right beat on the Producers I Know compilation "The 80s Beat Tape" - which I'm sure we'll visit again. St.Louis'/NYC's Trifeckta dices up some Janet Jackson and tops it off with some skilled drum machine work.

John Legend and The Roots : Hang On In There

Somehow the "Wake Up!" collaborative project slipped by me until recently, despite being years old! It's mostly made up of covers of old soul records, and they're done well. Here's one example, their take on the low-key 1972 classic "Hang On In There" by Mike James Kirkland, with a beautiful groove and a solid message.

Children of Zeus : Rock You Internally

Yet another great cut from Konny Kon and Tyler Daly, both of whom are in fine rhyming style right here - classic tag team vocal styles. No slouches on the boards either, they cook up a quality beat from a classic soul sample. "The Story So Far..." is an essential purchase...and that's just a collection of their past work. The album, when it comes, is really going to be something.

Ill Camille : Take A Ride

Ill Camille is an artist coming out of Los Angeles who gets much respect from those in the know. While her latest LP "Heirloom" is getting rave reviews, here we go all the way back to 2011's "The Pre-Write" for a track which I think features the sadly late Alori Joh ; they collaborated on a version of this track I've seen titled as "Take That Ride". Camille handles her business here lyrically, and the hook is very nicely done as a bonus. I've not got any credits indicating who produced it, but I do like the beat - incidentally, all that EQ/filtering going on towards the end is part of the track itself!

KING : The Greatest

I don't know how many times I've played this track this year, but it's a lot. Paris Strother kills it on this production (as she does on the whole "We Are KING" album), and on the mic along with the other two members for this ethereal and grooving tribute to the great Muhammad Ali. If you're hearing it for the first time, it deserves an immediate rewind - alternatively, watch the excellent 8-bit-styled video :)

Tall Black Guy : Sade's Taboo (Sweetest Taboo Blap-Up)

The brother from another mother (and father) once again shows you how he flips well-known samples into his own head-nodding, shoulder-slumping style!

Craig G : W.F.W.T (What's Fuckin With That)

Ending things on an up note, we take a track from the amazingly titled "I Rap and Go Home" album. The Juice Crew veteran gives you a small window into his life as a live performer..and he loves it! Again, I like to see people win and so it's nice to know that Craig's working life is pretty awesome. Vaporworldz isn't an artist I've heard of before, but this beat is on-point; a light, cheerful head-nodder with a little reggae seasoning in there. I hope Craig G and the rest of the crew left Manchester with happy memories - although we couldn't help much with the weather, sadly.
