journal update!!

i've taped the edges of the pages to prevent papercuts XD also to add some pizazz of course. i'm not nearly as good at this as a professional (my mother) so bear with me, i know it's not the prettiest. i'll just show off a few spreads with some fanart i've included so far!!

first off is this little page spread. not totally sure what i'll do here yet. something mingo themed i'm thinking. i found some pink feathers to stick in there, and some birdcage tape to put on the edges. i have more feathers to use too, but they’re either white or pink, so i’ll try and dye them black.

next we have a very bright spread that i thought would perfectly fit this commission i requested from @flashily!! he looks so good in here omg. i'm probably going to write or doodle something in the white margins above and below.

the lovely @jemichiart was kind enough to gift me a whole bunch of cora prints with an order, so i've been putting them to good use! i've got two of them here on display. not totally sure what i'll do on the patterned pages across from them, but i'm vibing with the potential here.

lastly i have some zine stuffs!! this corabelle sticker is from the shore leave zine i believe, and it's like... my favorite thing ever. (thank you so much for gifting it to me, @ensignsenna!!!) i'm definitely going to write some lines from my favorite corabelle stories on these blank pages. maybe some doodles too if i'm feelin it!! and of course, the corazine fits nicely in the back of the book! i wasn't able to fit a pocket due to the structure of the cover, but seems like a rubber band is perfect for holding it in place! i'm going to see if i can find a nicer one somewhere, maybe something red/white/pink/black. the green is kind of random XD but for now, it works!

BIG journal update!

the pages have been stitched into the cover!! it feels very solid and sturdy. you can also see the threads that were used to stitch the signatures in! usually they're hidden but i kind of like them revealed. might cover them with ribbon if i change my mind, but i thought it'd be neat to see. also there is my hand.

here are some of the basic page layouts! nothing's been embellished or decorated yet, and we have yet to add pockets. i'll probably set all that up before i insert any prints/art/stickers. but we've got the canvas primed and ready!

here's the page i've got set dead center in the book! not totally sure what i'll put here, but i think it'd be cool to write his name on that little label.

probably going to put a big pocket on that last cover. if i could find a way to fit the corazine in it, that would be PERFECT. it should fit, but i'd just have to make a very sturdy pocket.

so i've started accidentally accumulating a lot of cora prints and stickers and for a while now i've had them awkwardly propped up on a shelf, but they don't seem happy there. then it clicked. i have a mother who makes mixed-media journals for this very reason. to stick photos and drawings and writing into. SO anyway we're now making a cora journal! i'll post some occasional progress pics for anyone who's interested. i'll use the tag #gensjournal for now so if you don't want to see any of this, you can go ahead and block that bad boy. starting progress below the cut!

things are still very rudimentary in terms of planning but we've got the inside of the covers vaguely measured and cut out! these were from the back of some cheap sketchbooks. we'll end up gluing paper and fabric over them to strengthen them and connect the binding into more of a cover shape.

we're still gathering some supplies but i raided the valentines day collection for anything vaguely heart-shaped or, yknow, corazon-like. these will be used to kind of... embellish some of the blank pages. make things prettier. thinking of layering washi tape over the edges of the pages too because i will certainly get a paper cut if i don't. we're also planning on inserting quite a few pockets to stick prints or other little doo-dads. i think i might rip out some original sketches from the 01746 collection and stick them in here, or maybe attempt to print some of my own art, too. i think it'll be really cool to have a little handmade physical rosinante archive XD

little journal update!

preview of the inside cover while the fabric binding dries! the white part won’t be very visible, it’s where the pages will come from. if you look closely, you can see six of the nine sets or dimples where they’ll get stitched in.

and here’s a little preview of how some of the pages will look when they’re sewn into the cover. it’s going to have three signatures (three sets of paper folded in half and sewn in) so hopefully that’ll give plenty of room for me to clown around. hehe. get it
