Interlude: Between wind and stone.

As you walk along the trail you couldn’t help but feel like someone’s watching you. You shake off the feeling and keep on your way.

“You won’t be welcomed in Liyue descender.” You hear a voice call from behind you. You turn around and see Dainsleif walk towards you.

“Every freaking time.” You pout. “I was promised hot dudes and mommy milkers, and yet twice now people have been hostile towards me.”

“You should go back to whatever forsaken land you came from and leave Teyvats people alone.”

“I can’t. I don’t know how. Honestly I’d love to listen to you, I have family, friends and a promising future back home. So far everyone has been very hostile towards me. There’s really no reason for me to want to stay. Yet I still can’t leave.”

“Follow me. There’s old manuscripts in the abyss that might help you get home.”

“Why should I trust you?”

Dainsleif sighs and pulls you closer by your hips. “If you be good and listen I’ll reward you.” You blush at his actions but quickly think of a comeback.

“Can I choose the reward?” You smile slyly,  not unlike a fox bearing its teeth and taunting its prey.

“No. You get a kiss.”

“Can you at least kiss me on the lips?”

“Fine.”

“For a whole minute.” You stipulate.

“5 seconds.” He argues.

“45 seconds.”

“6 seconds.”

“Hey! Fine 44 seconds.”

“5 seconds.”

“You can’t-! Fine, how about 10 seconds?” You pout. 

“Deal.” He finally agrees. He takes your hand and takes you through the abyss. At one point he has to fend off a horde of enemies and he just picks you up and carries you bridal style.

‘Is this going to be a normal thing? People just carrying me away without my permission?’ You think as he runs through this labyrinth of halls.

Finally we get to the library he mentions and he puts me down. We walk through and search for the books and manuscripts and texts we might need. The way Dain studies the books is so mesmerizing. He gets lost in them, you disappearing from his thoughts. 

10 minutes in you hear a noise coming from down the hall so you sneak away only to find a hydro slime bouncing towards you bring you a sunsettia and some cooked fowl. The small slime stops at your feet and bounces in front of you. “Is this for me?” The spine nuzzles your leg in a sign of approval as you take the food and pet the little dear. “Thanks.”

 You walk back towards the blond and he doesn’t even look up as he remarks, “You should be more careful around them.”

“Aren’t they your people? Why are you so hostile towards them?”

“I’m not hostile, but I don’t think that you should just go around eating everything that strangers give you.”

“Newsflash: I don’t exactly have a vision, I don’t have any mora, and I don’t have a weapon. Taking handouts is the only way I’ll be able to survive.”

“You’re supposed to have powers untold.”

“Well, I don’t. I’m a college student who’s studying computer science and engineering. I got sucked in here because I found Kate Kaslana and she got pissed at me.”

“Once you get back home you can make up as much as you want. ‘Computer’ what a ridiculous word.” Dain rolls his eyes. He grabs the book he’s reading and grabs some chalk. Then he draws a circle and a slightly smaller circle inside of the original, and finally draws symbols in between the two.

“Is this a transfiguration circle?”

“Transportation circle, actually.”

“I’m really going home.” You smile. “Hey before you finish I get my kiss.” You demand.

“I suppose that’s fair.” He gets up and takes your face in his hands. He then leans down and meets his lips with yours. You close your eyes and enjoy yourself. You put your hands on his broad chest and run them over his torso. Then, as quickly as it began, it ended. 

“That was so nice.”

“Um… glad you thought so. Now time for you to go.”

“I don’t think so.” A deep gravely voice calls for the entrance. The two of you jump back in surprise and see an Abyss Herald. “You’ve foiled our plans for far too long Dainsleif. It’s our turn to get the drop on you!” He charges in, grabs you, holds you under his arm and makes a run for it through a portal.

"playable capitano" this, "playable skirk" that, what about playable abyss twin. if they become playable there's no way they'll have one of the boring 7 elements. we can guess dainsleif will also not have one of the 7 (because of course. he's cursed by them, after all), so will the twin and dainsleif have the same element? idk. we're still like 4 years away from khaenri'ah and i legit cant wait.

Definitely not lore accurate but I thought it would be fun to design one. This is Inanis, the Nameless Abyss, dragon sovereign 😇 I haven't drawn his dragon form yet but I am totally in love with his humanoid design. Purple and black is one of my favorite color combos!!

As an Abyss Order fan, my reaction to the last quest (Spoilers)

The Abyss finally gets a win! Dain gets outplayed, the Loom is completed, and Hoyo is making the Abyss Order more and more justified and rightous.

Yessss it's all coming together!

Thinking about Pierro being a sage in Khaenri'ah.

Thinking about reader being a sage as well and sacrificing themselves so that at least a few of the Khaenri'ahn people can survive.

Thinking about how Dainsleif has to see the love of his life dying in front of his eyes while he is incapable of doing anything but guide the said people to safety as per the reader's last wish.

Thinking of how reader didn't die but got corrupted because it'll be a shame to let such power potential perish. Becoming a valuable weapon for the abyss.

Thinking of them meeting at the very end, in Khaenri'ah back again, reenacting the same horrific scene from 500 years ago, only that there's no more screams, no more pleas, just the sound of two pairs of footsteps marching towards one another.

Thinking of the reader has no memories of Dainsleif, the one man who they loved so deeply that it could rival the moon's love for its stars. Unsheathing their weapon with bloodlust surging through their eyes, launching themselves at the individual.

Thinking how both ended up wounded thanks to their proficient fighting abilities, only for a moment of respite to change the outcome of this battle.

"You seem to hold deep adoration for the one before you."

"Your deduction is correct. I do."

"Forgive my curiosity, given the circumstances. I hold no recognition of the one I used to be."

Thinking how Dainsleif, with blood sweeping through his wounds and staggering breath, lovingly replied a few past endeavours between the two of them, hand clenching onto his sword when sapphire orbs lay upon the curse that took away his everything.

Thinking how in the very end, Dainsleif managed to hold his lover once more. His blade piercing the reader and himself, he knew they held off their guard.

Dainsleif was clutching onto the last spark that maybe somewhere underneath the abyssal corruption his lover's beating heart still existed.

Thinking how the reader couldn't break this joy of his. Knowing their curse was already starting to eat them from the inside, demise coming sooner than they had anticipated. Taking advantage of this battle was what some would say "a convenient inconvenience".

Thinking how both die in each other's arms, giving finality to their journey.

Chapter 15: Gaokerena

Sorush and her Yasnapati venture into Abyssal chambers to heal the heart of the Harvisptokhm.

The old, hated sensations washed over the Wanderer like a dark tide, prickling his skin, settling heavy into his inner workings; a low-dosage venom threatening to spike at any moment.

Wrong. Deeply wrong. His body and the very air around him felt at odds, hostile. Incompatible, even if he was artificial. He could only imagine what it must be like for a mortal.

He’d stepped back into the Abyss of his own free will. He let out a little scoff, before reluctantly opening his eyes.

He found himself standing on a jagged shard of colourless rock, one of many forming a disjointed pathway, the only tangible objects floating in a bottomless void. Swirling, purple-grey cloud filled the seemingly boundless space, vaguely revealing clawing spires of rock in the murky distance. It was like being at the bottom of a waterless ocean – strange, fathomless, suffocating.

That he should live to see the day. Him coming here again, and not even for any semblance of his own benefit.

What if Sorush were to be accompanied by someone else who can fly and knows a thing or two about self-sacrifice - and would absolutely roll his eyes into another dimension at her most noble and exalted life’s mission?

Having played Khvarena of Good and Evil with Wanderer the whole way through, I couldn’t help but envision them bonding and standing against the Abyss together - and Wanderer taking on the role of teacher of life lessons for once. He’s been exactly where she is, after all.
